Comments regarding Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Co.

This is the 2nd season that I have enjoyed ordering on http://www.rareseeds.com. I order all of my seeds online - usually on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Baker Creek has been very fast as I get the seeds in the mail by Wednesday or Thursday - less than a week! They seem to go out of their way to get my order to me as fast as possible.
My order was accompanied by a small slip of paper asking if I would rate them on this website. I never heard of Dave's Garden until now. Looks like a fun website for me to enjoy!
Anyway, I feel I owe Baker Creek a kind review and went out of my way to register on this website today. I want everyone to know how great they are to do business with.
If anything, order their catalog! The photos of the rare squashes are worth a look not to mention the rainbow of tomatoes!
These folks also publish The Heirloom Gardener magazine. It is SO NICE to read a magazine with NO ADVERTISING! It may not have as many pages as the other gardening magazines, but you will be pleasantly surprised at how long it will take you to read all of the stories!
Okay, enough from me. Don't just take my word for it, read the rest of the reviews!

Love this company!! First time ordering: Got my seeds within a few days! They shipped them the day after I ordered and I wasn't even expecting to get the seeds for a week or two!! Ordered from another company that took over 3 weeks!! Good prices and amazing selection of heirloom veggies. Will definitely order again. Thanks for being such an awesome company.

This is the first time I've ordered from this company. The prices are GREAT--especially when you consider the large number of seeds in each packet! Shipping was very quick.

I loved the variety of heirloom tomatoes and selection that the catalog had to offer I thought that the seeds arrived in a few days and the seeds all germinated quickly, they took kindly to the sun and are very beautiful to the eye. Thank You SDB!

This is my second year ordering seeds from Baker Creek. Great seed with fast,reasonably-priced shipping! Rocky Top Lettuce mix is a favorite of mine. This baby lettuce mix has great flavor and grows well all summer long in our slightly acidic New Hampshire garden with late afternoon shade (raised beds).

I received my first order from Baker Creek earlier this week, and was very impressed to find a complimentary packet of lettuce seed, as well as an apology for delays in getting the order out. While I didn't find the order took overly long, I think it's excellent that they pro-actively handled any concerns around shipping times. Kudos!

Just transplanted my vegetable and flower seedlings from my order...had a 99% germination rate, and that 1% was probably user-error. The plants are healthy and look terrific.
Their service was excellent; the website was a breeze to use, the seeds shipped super-fast, and I love what this company is all about, so I'm happy to support them. Would recommend you put in your large seed orders here...the selection is phenomenal and the quality is top-notch. I'll be ordering from them again very soon!

LOVE Baker Creek!! Always super fast shipping, excellent seed and variety. Their staff is always super friendly and helpful when I have called in a order. I have ordered from them for the past three years, and have not been let down yet. As for their "religious" comments in the catalog, this is part of the free country that we live in. We are free to own our business and express our own values as we see fit, and if a customer is offended, you are free to not shop there. I for one love them for their traditional values and find them refreshing in a morally declining society.

I for one am NOT offended by the small religious references that are in this company's catalog, and find that it offers a very wide and abundant selection of fine seeds. I found their customer service extremely friendly and professional, and their order fulfillment/shipping times rivaling even some of eBay's best sellers! Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds will be my first "go to" for selection of outstanding heirloom seeds, and I have already recommended their site to many others. May God bless the good people of this company for providing a wonderful service and products for everyone to enjoy!

I am very pleased with BCHS! I placed my order on 3/25. It shipped 3 days later and arrived today (3/30). Everything that I ordered was in the package and they even added a packet of free flower seed! Inside I found a note apologizing for the delay at which I had to laugh because they were SO much faster than other places and my order was 100% correct! I can't wait to get my seed in the ground!

I just received my seeds this weekend. This is my second time buying from BC and I am THRILLED . Last year most all of the seeds did EXCELLENT, germinating extremely fast. Delicious vegetables too! I can't wait to plant my new seeds. Baker Creek also has EXCELLENT, speedy service. They are definately on my top 3 places to order seeds from!

Great experience with Baker Creek. This is my second year of ordering. The seeds from last year exceeded my expectations. The germination rate was extremely good, the quality of the produce was wonderful. Both this year and last the orders came very quickly. When I had occasion to call they were friendly and helpful. Love the catalog, beautifully done and is inspiring us to make a trip to visit Baker Creek this summer. Most of all I am grateful to Jere Gettle for the contribution he is making to preserving heirloom seeds for the world—a huge thank you to him for that.

I love this place. The catalog is great and the pictures of the vegetables really help in decision making. I did have a few problems last year but customer service was very helpful and corrected the problem immediately. Shipment is lightning fast, I usually receive the order the same week that I placed the order. I love the many old varieties they carry. I have found alot of new favorites and now order them every year. I recommend Baker Creek to everyone I know. I look forward every year to receiving the new catalog and spend many hours trying to decide what to order. Thanks for being a great company.

What a phenomenal catalog! I can't say enough about how much I have learned from "the book" and can't wait to see how my harvest goes in the garden. Seeds are in the greenhouses or the gardens, and I am anxiously awaiting results. I can say that the green globe artichokes started in November are a foot high. The greenhouse tomatoes are almost eight feet high, but with no ripe fruit. Also started in November 2010. The cucumbers started at the same time got too cold, and are just a pleasant memory. Still, I'll order from them again and again, just to keep this wonderful company in business. Shoot, I may even order things I don't need if it keeps them going.

Baker Creek offers a great variety of traditional seeds at fair prices. The seeds always arrive quickly and have germinated well for me.

I just received my seeds for this year's garden from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. I was directed to them by a dear friend who is a grower/merchant in Vermont, and has used their seeds for some time. Their catalogue is magnificent (and, in spite of the one comment about the number of trees used in mfg their catalogue, you DO have the alternative option of shopping on-line). Their wide diversity of heirloom varieties is exciting to shop- can't wait to see them in abundance in my hay bale garden. Their site is very easy to use and my seeds came within a week!

I HAVE ORDERED FROM BAKER CREEK FOR THE LAST 3-4 YEARS AND HAVE BEEN VERY SATISFIED WITH EVERY PURCHASE. THEIR CATALOG IS AN EDUCATION IN ITSELF. I ANTICIPATE IT'S ARRIVAL EVERY YEAR AND SPEND HOURS READING IT. I LOVE IT!! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE.

I look forward every year to their catalogue, its a feast for the eyes and soul when winter winds howl and you long for spring. Their seed is always reliable even if the gardener (ME) isn't always the same. High seed reliability, excellent product taste, and some of the most diverse seeds available. I'm especially fond of trying new products, and I haven't been disappointed in the last 4 years of ordering seed from them. Order early as their name becomes more widely known I'm sure some of their varieties will become harder to come by. There are some I order just to ensure I have seed. I really have to get better at saving them.

I received my order three days after it was placed! My order was correct and a special package of Red Romaine Lettuce seeds was included. This the second year I've ordered from Baker Creek and have been completely pleased with their selection and service. I positively love the customer comments on plant varieties. I've used them many times to figure out if a variety is right for my area. You can't go wrong with these guys!

The shipments came quickly and orders were accurately filled. Plus, the seed packet design and bits of information about the history of the seed are lovely touches.

I have been buying seeds from BC for 4-5 years now. I can think of nothing but positive things to say about them. I have recommended them to other gardeners I know and at least 2 folks up in the village order seed from them now. The only complaint I can think of is that they ran out of my Black Diamond cucumber seeds 3 years back and still don't carry them. Ah well!! Such is life. If I could only deal with one seed company, this would be it.

Baker has a very nice selection of seeds. Their service is very friendly. I would like to point out that many of their seeds are imported from far away places. Some people may believe that importing plants and seeds is a dangerous game played with the environment; however, I would like to point out that 99% of the seeds we believe are indigenous to any particular geographic region actually were imported very recently. And 99% of the seeds that exist today did not exist as recently as 1000 years ago. Yes, the vast majority of seeds have been naturally genetically engineered over time by busy gardeners. Ever notice how plump and juicy our fruit and vegetables are? Well, they were not plump and juicy 5000 years ago. My point is not to support GMO because I feel GMO is indeed dangerous. But I do support the transportation of seeds across geographic regions. Diversity is a good thing.

Ordered seeds online on March 16, 2011, seeds were packaged and order filled the same day with receipt on the 19th. Outstanding ! In the garden process of switching to all heirloom plantings and will provide progress report ! Thank you Baker Creek...............

Yes, a beautiful catalog, but how many trees were destroyed printing it?

Don't get me wrong, I love their seeds, which include some great old varieties, but I can do without all their political statements. They are constantly harping about "saving the environment" from the evil companies that develop GMOs and hybrids. But they have a great fondness for bringing in seeds from all over the world without any assurances that some of these varieties won't escape cultivation and become our next nightmare, destroying our native flora.
To me they are hypocrits, and are just playing "green" and environmentally conscious because that is the trendy thing to do, while they think nothing of printing huge paper catalogs and importing potentially dangerous plants.

Second year to place a small order. Last year's seeds were satisfactory in every way. This year they included an apology for a delay in shipping that I hadn't noticed.

I ordered my seeds on 3/15/2011 and received them three days later. I got everything I ordered. Fast Service!

This was my first time ordering seeds through a catalog. Although the entire order could not be filled, I was not disappointed because I had mailed my order quite late. I was happy to get the seeds I received and a refund for the portion of my order that could not be filled. I will continue to buy products from this company in the future and I would recommend this company to a friend who wanted to purchase heirloom seeds.

I ordered my tomato seed online on Monday and we received them on Thursday. Great delivery time. Thanks for the fast service. I will gladly purchase from these guys again.

Just an awesome company with great customer service. I ordered from Baker Creek for the first time last year and I received my order (plus a free packet of seeds) within 4 days. This year I have ordered twice and both times I received my order in about 5 business days (with an apology for being late b/c they have received many more orders this year). I'm happy they are receiving a lot of orders this year! They have great seeds, great communication and customer service. I pay a little more for seeds from Baker Creek but I am happy to support a great company and my seeds are germinating and growing wonderfully!

This is the second year I have ordered from Baker Creek and I am quite happy. Being able to select heirloom seeds, and know I am helping to keep GMO seeds out of my little spot of earth matters alot to me. My flowers have been happily sprouting, the tomatoes were yummy, and the service is first rate.

I ordered for the first time on the 10th and my seeds showed up today (the 16th), just 6 days later! The shipping cost (and seeds) is very reasonable, too. I ordered half as many seeds from another company the same morning. They charged me more than twice the shipping and I just got word they mailed it out yesterday, the 15th. These guys have a new long term customer. Thanks for great service and great prices.
