Comments regarding Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Co.

We've ordered Baker Creek seeds for the last several years and plan on continuing to do so. The service has been great and the seeds wonderful. :)

I have ordered from them the last two years. Love the service, the seeds seem to do well for me, and I love all the different varieties that are offered. Happy gardening !

and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Baker Creek Heirloom catalogs (they read like books!) when they come!
I get SO excited to start marking seeds I want right from page 1. I must go over it several times with different color pens befor placing my final order. It is so hard not to order all I really want! Last year I spent about $350 so I had to get control of myself this year. Only spent about half of that this year. I think I 1-need to have stock in them and 2- work with them! (I can send my email if you want me to come there to work or if you want to send me free seeds :)
And yes, I would still get excited!
Oh. Havn't had any trouble with any of the seeds I have planted.

Ordered seeds on Jan 25, and received seeds on Jan 28, along with a complimentary lettuce seed packet. Great turnaround time! (I'll post a germination rate update later on.)

I like the new seed packets. My only complaint is that "days to maturity" is not listed on each packet, as with most seed companies. With the unusual varieties found at Baker Creek, at least a rough guess would be nice.

I have ordered from Baker Creek two years in a row, and this will be the third, to fill in the gaps in my seed collection. Each time I order seeds arrive in about a week. When I follow packet directions on germination, I have a good success rate. I would like to point out that some seeds need chilling hours before planting, and I've had success when I followed that method for seeds that previously did not germinate.

Some of the tomato seeds sparsely or did not produce fruit, but I am convinced that was due to my warmer climate as I shared some of the seeds with a family member (in a different climate) and they were spectacular and fruited longer into the winter than any other variety she had. I look forward to doing business with Baker Creek in the future.

I enjoy doing business with this company! Rising prices at plant nursuries I used to regularly order from have led to my experimenting with growing from seed, and even though I'm still a novice at this I've had good results with almost every variety I've planted from these folks. Each year I grow more and more plants from seed that I used to buy as plants. I enjoy patronizing Baker Creek because sustainable agriculture is important to me...in addition, it's amazing to see what a great variety of rare and historic veggies they carry...I can't believe it took me so long to discover them!

Beautiful catalog; lovely seed packets; lightening fast shipping; great germination; courteous and speedy correspondence; very reasonable postage fee; delightful selection (can't wait to plant Ali Baba watermelon!)—looking forward to ordering from again.

I have ordered from Baker Creek a couple of times now and could not be more pleased. Their reputation is sterling. I asked a friend of mine, who is a horticulturalist, about Baker Creek, after my first order, and he assured me that they are one of the few companies that can be trusted to provide truly heirloom seeds with a very high germination rate. I do not need to look any further for the plants they provide. My food future is secure. Can there be anything more important?

I have ordered from Baker Creek for several years. I can't wait for their 2012 catalog to arrive. The Sweet Peas that I ordered last year did not germinate very well and 2 of the packages were short 6-8 seeds. Since I split my seeds between 4 close friends and family, the shorted seeds made a difference. I emailed Baker Creek and Lisa replaced the seeds within a week of my email. Once again, wonderful service.

Year six and counting. I ordered seeds and in less than 4 days I received my package. Our Montana growing season is short and the weather is not always cooperative. I love the heirlooms that Baker Creek offers. They do well in our northern climate. Keep up the good work and please continue to look for short season varieties. Happy Gardening!

Well, seeing as it's 15 degrees outside, the seeds are still snug in their packets. But I did want to say that I received my seed order today, just four days after I placed the order. I'm impressed. I'll keep you posted in four months when I can actually plant them.

I would like 2 say I tried handling this thru the company,but they didn't respond. I purchsed seed from them last season and was impressed by the expensive high quality seed catalog & the fancy seed pkts. However, that is were my favor ended. Several of the seed didn't EVER( after a green house & two seperate planting attempts) NEVER came up. Some things just wound up being greenery in my garden-they never produced anything. I followed the directions & made several tries to grow their seeds. I even waited to pass judgement until the entire season was over,giving them every chance. I emailed them the other day and have not had any response, so be warned...you may get your seed, they may look nice in the pkt.-BUT good luck you have probably purchased some expensive greenery for your garden-if it comes up. Beware!

I buy way too many seeds from Baker Creek. Their catalogue is so beautiful and their shipping is reasonable and they send that enticing free gift packet with your order! I know I've ordered plenty of seeds that I really shouldn't have... I've had good experiences with germinating most of the seeds I've received from them - I can't think of any real duds (although a few varieties haven't done well in my area, but that's to be expected).

The only thing that really annoys me about the company is that they include so little information about the plants and especially the specific varieties on their seed packets. This is especially frustrating when you order something weird like Red Orach, which came with generic planting instructions for "Cress, Corn Salad, and Arugula". Also, some tips for "Mustard greens" and "Collards". Notice the lack of mention of "Orach"? No spacing information, nothing about light specifications... And it's not like it's your standard lettuce plant that your can find instructions for on the internet. Very few of their packets contain this information - especially regarding spacing - very annoying.

I ordered seeds on Jan. 2 and just received them yesterday, Jan. 5. Great turnaround time!

Ordered nearly $30 in seeds and they never arrived. When I contacted Baker's Creek they were polite and said they'd refill the order and mail them again... they still never arrived. Not sure if I have them to blame or the post office. I may never know.

Nice enough botano-erotic catalog (disclaimer: more and more propaganda every year for those politically averse), and I do look forward to getting it every year. But I don't get a harvest from that, so that's a neutral. Last year, seeds came quickly enough, with email updates along the way. So they get a positive for that. Germination rates were quite variable, some nearly 100%, some closer to 10%. So that's a neutral, trending negative, and yes, I get it that this is heirloom seed from all-natural and earth-friendly growers from around the world and that's the beauty of heirloom gardens (to the right beholder). As far as what I got, not everything fit the description in the catalog at maturity (squash and tomatoes particularly) and that makes me wonder if those varieties were just highly variable, or if they were the wrong seeds in the packet, or those varieties were not suited for a Florida climate, or if I just succumbed to the glitzy catalog. So I'll call that a neutral, or a negative that was my fault. Price is the main drawback for me, just very expensive and there are several other companies that have a good selection of heirloom/preservation seeds that are somewhat less expensive and which have given me better results. Overall, neutral review, or maybe positive if you've got plenty of budget for your garden and don't have high expectations or mind surprises, though I'd still recommend trying to look beyond the plant porn and glamorous descriptions when ordering.

Working with Baker Creek Seeds has always been a pleasure. I run my own heirloom seed company but have always gone to Baker Creek for the varieties I don’t yet carry. My most recent order was processed fast, accurately, and with a noticeable personal touch.

I ordered all my seeds from Baker Creek, and I was greatly disappointed with the germination rates. It took a whole package of chard seeds, for example, to get just a few plants. It's too bad, because I love the catalog and I love their view about charity. I really WANT to support the company. But how can I when the seeds are bad?

The order was filled quickly. Everything came as expected. I started the seeds indoors and out and had a high germination rate. Would purchase from them again.

A first time buy with Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. My order was placed on-line on a Sunday and received the following Friday. Not certain how that happens in an age of redirected and redirected snail mail but it did. Impressive to say the least.

I have purchased from Baker Creek for 2 years & will not again. I find their need to insert political views (which are saccharinely naive and concomitantly offensive) in their beautiful but overblown catalogue (much in the style of the one Elaine worked in Seinfeld) not something I am willing to support with my pocketbook. Thee are simply too many other purveyors of wonderful varieties which germinate better & grow true to descriptions to be bothered with the breathless nutjobs at BC. FTR - a dear friend who was raised in Iraq & got his degree in agricultural engineering there laughed & laughed when I showed him the little tale associated with Rouge D'Irak - utter fiction; to what end? What tripe.

I have ordered three times from this company and their delivery is super fast and I mean FAST! Their catalog is a work of art and the variety of what they offer is amazing. These people really have it together!

Shipping was fast, nicely packaged, with a handwritten note thanking me for the order. The quantities and prices were good and I got a little extra packet of seeds to try. I will order from Baker creek much more, as not only was the product and service good, but I like what they stand for and what they are doing... if you know anything about non-GMO and heirloom seeds I'm sure you'll agree. Give them a try, I recommend them very much.

Ordered this month for 2012 Season and with Baker Creek at Rare Seeds and had no problems an will order from them again.

10-Sept-2011 was the first time I placed my seed order with Baker Creek "online" using my credit card...week and a couple of days later they arrived by mail securely packaged in a bubblewrap envelope..,seed packs came in perfect condition with a "free"pack of seeds...I ordered G.Otts morning glory,Ufo Morning glory,Moonflower, red malabar spinach and chines yellow cucumber...all seeds sprouted...Excellent quality, and Service... I will surely be buying from Baker Creek seed co. again..thanks.

I have ordered seeds from this company for the past three years. I have been very pleased with the generous quantities of seeds in the packets and have had very good germination with everything I have ordered. On receipt of my latest order, I discovered that they sent one wrong package. My wife called the next day and the right item was in our mail box within three days (we live in Kansas). I want to go see them sometime. I believe strongly in their mission and will continue to support them with orders.

Just placed my first order and am very pleased. One item was out of stock (a spinach variety) but the value was refunded, although I'd asked them to substitute if possible - perhaps they were out of stock on all similar varieties, it is pretty late in the year. Not terribly displeased, as they included a free gift as well! Very happy, look forward to an excuse to order again! :)

Great Company ! I have placed 4-5 orders and never had a problem. I did receive a check for an out of stock item. I always just ask for a substitute in the "comments" area when I place the order now. I have 98% success rates with their seed stock to include approximately 100 packs of their seeds in the past year. Their shipping is under 4 bucks to NC. You guys rock !!!

I received my order in four days. Website was easy to navigate and informative. Order was processed by someone the next day (their website states the goal is to process within 48 hours from the order being placed) and there was even a handwritten note at the bottom of the invoice saying "Thanks" and a smiley face with the employee's name and the date it was processed. Seeds come with information on the variety and how to sow, plant, and care for on the packet. Packets also state number of minimum seeds included and a picture or sketch of the product included. This makes two years in a row that I have ordered from Baker Creek. Even the seeds I had leftover from last year's order continue to flourish - the Monsieur de Viroflay spinach I bought last year did wonderfully again this year. Last year's tomatoes and eggplant (including the free tomato seeds they sent last year) are also doing wonderfully in this year's garden. And I am quite impressed with this year's Italian melon. Next year I intend to order all my seeds from them!
Not only that, but when I need recommendations, they will go so far as to advise me on things they do not carry, or are even out of, telling me where else to get what I need. This goes beyond my expectations - and represents excellent customer service. Thanks, Baker Creek!

Loved the catalog! Could not ask for better descriptions or pictures of the products they sell. I got my order in a timely fashion.
