Comments regarding Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Co.

I went to the website looking for some petunia seeds and was pleasantly suprised. I found several old varieties at the site as well as a few hard to find herbs. The seeds not only arrived quickly, but they had included a pack of sunflower seeds as well. What a nice suprise. I am just starting them, so I can't speak to the germination rate, but I'm very pleased with both the varieties they carry as well as the fast shipping.

I am above and beyond pleased with Bakers Creek so far. I had a hiccup with a seed count in 1-2 packets out of 8 or so & they more than made up for it immediately..im talking double to triple the original amount. I plan to share the extra and if they have success they will probably become customers as well. They were polite & truly seem to care about their customers. If I have success with germination and such you bet I will be back every year to order more. It is sad how few company's will respect their customers these days. I really appreciate it.

I am very pleased with Baker Creek. I ordered seeds last friday just after Missouri's Storm of the Century, and then this week Missouri had yet another storm of the century. This afternoon my seeds arrived with several free samples. I am impressed with the swiftness in which my seeds arrived considering 2 different storms of the century. Fast shipping! I received my order for vegetable seeds within a week of ordering. The seed envelopes are beautifully designed, and they include specific planting instructions and history about the seed type. My seed packages arrived two weeks after ordering, all looking good. Some of the radishes are already germinating and the germination rate seems excellent so far. Bargain prices, great selection and fast shipping. What's not to like?

Last year bought some Hill Country Heirloom Red Okra & Stewart's Zeebest Okra, but had bad luck with germination. Upon notifying Baker Creek, they replaced the seeds quickly and without any problems. The second batch of seeds hasn't been much better. I am pretty confident the problem is the seed, since I had given it to several people and they had the same results, and these people are experienced gardeners.

Tried again this January and there was only about 10% success. I have also just purchased a seedling mat, and will give these one last shot. I had seed from okra we planted and saved from 2010, and we had 100% germination, in the row next to the Baker Creek in the seed flat.

Also purchased some Cherokee Purple & Mortgage Lifter Tomato at the same time, and those seem to be doing fairly well this year.

Overall, it seems there may have been a problem with the okra seed and how they were stored. They replaced it but it was the same lot number, so I was hesitant to start with, figuring it was the same batch of seeds. The customer service was what I would expect, so there is only so much a supplier can do.

As a first time customer, I had an excellent experience with Baker Creek. I found the website easy to navigate, the descriptions informative and the choices...difficult! :-)

After placing my order, I waited all of about 5 days for my seeds to arrive, neatly packaged and with an unexpected extra packet of a variety I ordered. So I emailed them letting them know of what I thought was an error and to go ahead and charge my card for the extra packet. I was promptly informed that the extra packet was sent to make up for any possible problem with seed counts (and when I checked the seed counts, there wasn't any) and to keep the seeds at no extra charge! Talk about customer service!

I will definitely be ordering from Baker Creek again!

I’ve been dealing with Baker Creek for over 5 years now. In those 5 years, I only had one problem which was quickly and professionally resolved (they mailed me someone else’s order. Just a mail room mix up). Their seeds have wonderful germination rate and produce plants true to the variety. Plus, their yearly seed catalog is “plant porn” in the truest sense. Amazing company. Selection is fantastic, prices are great, as of this writing shipping is still affordable, and the seeds I've started had germinated well and the seedlings have been strong and healthy. And who wouldn't love the freebie seed packet?

This is my second year ordering from Baker Creek. Most of my seeds germinated and grew into healthy plants. The only ones that didn't were the Vietnamese Corriander or Culantro seeds. Asides from that, I am very pleased with the company's product and customer service. I also like that the company sends you a free packet of seeds with your order...I just wished the free seeds were something more useful for the home gardener with limited space.

just received my first order so i can't comment on seed quality yet. but the comments i do have so far:
their catalog alone is worth having, every page is a work of art. there is a lot of information in it and their variety is exceptional.
customer service over internet was very good. navigating their site is simple and straightforward. although i did not receive notice that my order had been shipped, it arrived ahead of several other orders i had placed a couple days previous to this order. i did receive online acknowledgement of my order, and it was filled correctly. seed packets are beautiful and cultural information is straightforward. i also received a free packet of melon seed with my order. will post more when i begin working with the seed itself.

This year 2013 will be my second year for gardening. I decided that this year I was going to take the plunge and get my garden started from seeds. I decided to buy all my veggie and chili pepper seeds from the great folks at Baker Creek. I ordered my seeds on Monday night 1/21/13 and this afternoon 1/25/13 I got my order in the mail. Opened it up and everything looks excellent!! No problems at all and I can't wait to get these seeds started tomorrow. Great catalog, great selection, great service and quick delivery. I feel you can't go wrong with these folks.

This is my 4th year in ordering from Bakers Creek and I keep coming back because of their quality seeds and excellent service. I love their beautiful catalogs. Each year I expand my home garden just alittle and am excited about new vegetables/fruits I order from Bakers.
My sister was never a gardener but because of my experience with Baker's started a garden last year and we like to go thru the catalog together picking just the right crops for the new growing season. The Lemon Squash grows especially good for me and I highly recommend it. I love their book, "The Heirloom Life Gardener", and refer to it many times.

I just received my large order from Baker Creek. I am well-pleased for the third year in a row. I ordered... and received my order inside of 2 weeks. I just can't get enough of their awesome selection of juicy and delicious watermelons. You are the best Jere and [Baker Creek] family.

I placed my order online on Jan 12 and received my seeds on Jan 18. I was pleased with the fast shipping and personal service.

This was my first time to order seeds from them. They were delivered quickly, and included a bonus pack of lemon cucumber seeds! So far, everything I've planted has come up. Also enjoyed looking through the catalog. Really like the quotes and comments!

This is the second or third time ordering from this company. The quality of seeds has been great, but the two times I had to contact customer service, I had an outstanding experience. The first time I was trying to figure out what particular type of squash my dad was looking for. The representative was very kind and helpful, we found the squash and once grown, it was very abundant! The second time was this year. I messed up my order online, I called and talked to "Louis", he was very kind and went far and beyond to help me correct it and save me some money! When I told him about the few things I wanted to order, but they did not carry, he did a little digging and sent me a list of some sites that I could find them at! It's extremely rare these days to find customer service people who speak English, let alone that actually care and go that extra mile! My seeds arrived within the week that I ordered them and I was left extremely happy. Can not stop raving about this company. Job well done Baker Seed Company!

I love this co. their catalog is a winter treat!!! Kind of like being a kid with the sears catalog,(wish book). some of you will recall those day!! They have great service. when not right they fixed it !!! And I don"t see how any one could give these people any thing other than A positive rateing in my exp., Only thing I would like to see is volume size packs for those of us who plant large areas, and saveing some kin of seeds is not possible,(corn soy beans ect.) becouse of gmos planted all around us. Once again love these people!!!

1/18/13 - I received my third order of seeds today. It took a total of nine days to reach me. Considering most of the other seed companies I work with take months (not joking) this is a great return time. So fast shipping!

On my two previous orders I have found that your seeds either do absolutely fantastic or not so great. Again, you have an almost all or nothing ratio, with MOST of the seed packets being an all. For the record, I will state that, I do not believe it is the fault of the seed, but the gardener that chooses the wrong seed for his growing region. I know for a fact that some plants do not grow well in certain areas. So, I chuck my 0% germination rates up to my own failure.

That said, your lemon squash was nearly 100% germination and maturation. They produced so many little squashes that we had them out our ears. Mind you, this was in the middle of a drought and we did not water once.

Also, your lemon cucumbers provided dandy little cucumbers that struggled through the worst drought and we did not water them. I was very impressed.

My beans were all eaten by rabbits before they could put on much leaves. That was a true disappointment, but not in you, just myself again. I could have put a little fence up to keep them out. I didn't think of it until after though.

I didn't like how your one rutabaga did, I forget the name. It was a more primitive version anyway. I found it hard to determine when they were finished. They also seemed to take a long time to mature. Then again, I wasn't familiar with this variety, so it could just be the nature of this one variety. The germination rate for it was almost 100% also. So, not a failure of the seed itself.

I do have a suggestion for your catalog though. Please, put days to maturation next to every listing. Also, please put all the scientific names next to every listing. It is so hard when you are trying to grow something new that you have never seen before, to know when it is "done". It is also so hard to know what you can plant and not cross. I know you do this with "most" of your listings in the catalog, but every one would be a real blessing. Please keep the pictures of your beautiful family coming. I have my own family and it's so nice to see other people that value their family above most else.

As far as what other posters have said about your politics, I don't care. I know forums are very hard to moderate. I'm a moderator myself. I also know everyone is entitled to their beliefs. I know that the owners are devout Christians. I am not. I am a Pagan, but I support their beliefs. Our beliefs aren't so different once you get right down to it. I don't mind the Bible verses I have seen in some catalogs. They make me smile. Please don't close your forums down because of one persons opinion. I have never been on the forums, didn't even know they existed, but I believe in the freedom of speech.

Thank you for taking a stand against GMO's. Because of your stance against GMO's, your testing of your corn, and signing the safe seed pledge, I only get my seeds from you if I can help it. If not, I will pair it down to the items I know have been tainted by GMO. So you will always get a corn, squash, beet, onion, and grain order from me. Knowing that you have the same beliefs as me, your customer, that you have a dog in the fight so to speak, makes me feel much safer ordering from you.

Why anyone would trust any other seed company besides Baker's is beyond me. Least I know what I am getting and they are not GMO. With that said I have been a long time customer of Baker's, ave. order is $180. my order gets here in less than a week. Even with the drought we had, I still had a very high germination. I started 98 tomato seeds and only put 96 in the ground, the other 2 actually grew, I ran out of room.
Just received my order of seeds for next spring planting. Order early they run out.....

I love Baker's Creek Heirloom Seed! Fabulous seed, practical, down to earth! I love that they have small farm growers. I called with a question about my own bean seed and they had a master gardener call me to help me:). I just can't say enough. The seeds have been great - radishes the size of golf balls (and still tender), tomatoes that were gorgeous and kept going all summer, okra taller than me! Great people, great company!

I ordered over 50 seed packets from Baker's Creek. All arrived very quickly, and there wasn't a single omission (unlike other places I've ordered from).

I've also ordered from their CT location - Comstock Ferre, and have been very happy with the results. The seeds and resulting produce were wonderful.

I am amazed at the variety that Baker's Creek offers, and really have a hard time deciding what to get. Great company!

Love Bakercreek Comapany and their seeds. Don't know how they can afford to send out the beautiful catalog they do tho. But check them out. They are great!

I got to know Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Co. because of my neighbor who gave me their 2011 catalog. I loved the catalog and what this company stands for. So I decided to call to place an order. I placed the order on the2nd of march, and I recieved my order on the 8th! That's fast shipping! I am very satisfied with everything. Customer service is awsome (Thank you Eric B.).
I love the great selection of seeds and rare seeds. I love the catalog and the website. I will definitly order again in the future.

Everything about my 2010 order was great. Everything was in stock and shipped early, germination rates were near 100% and all seeds grew true. Looking forward to gardening with BC again this year. I'll be a customer of theirs forever.

Great selection. Ordered tomato, pepper, lettuce. Received seeds fast. Will order next year too.

I've ordered from BCH for several years now and I've always had a positive experience. Fast shipping but more importantly, a great selection of heirloom seeds. If you question this just take a look at their catalog!
I've always had good germination rates with all their seeds and I look forward to ordering from them in the future.

I've ordered from Baker Creek a few times...I guess it's time for me to review them :) I've never had a problem with seed germination or shipping times. I live in Georgia, and it usually takes 7-8 days to receive an order, which is reasonable to me. I also enjoy their forum. I will keep ordering in the future.
