The owners are/have retired after 20 years.. He closed at the beginning of summer and I didn't know. I drove by there the other day, called him, and here we go!
It is going to be a gamble, just like everything in life, but we are going to give it our best shot and make it all happen!

Mekos! I wish you were closer too! I plan on growing and propagating all winter to help get started and keep the startup expenses down.. The possibilities are endless! Seeds! Yes, I need seeds!!

Many Congrats, I'm sure you'll have plenty of time to enjoy this adventure. Nothing quite like being in business with yourself. We were commercial photographers for 18 years with our own studio. It was very busy, but I enjoyed every minute of it.

good luck hope you get going real good would love to do smothing like that,but had to spend all my time raising a fsmily and helping make a living. so the bills got paid. it was worth it i realy enjoysd my children when they were growing up.to old to start over in a buisness part time would be fun for me but thats not going to go over either. what do you think you are going to grow in your green house i was just wondering. love nettie

I finally started the Master Gardener program tonight! It was a great class. Tonight we learned about soil and composting. It was very informative and interesting. Of course I shared my lasagna bed experiences, lol .. Macroelements and Microelements , chemical symbols, organic elements, lots of good brain food! Nite everyone ;)

Well, I spent the day working at the nursery yesterday. I cleaned and dusted and all that good stuff in the office building. boy do I have my work cut out for me! I have decided to paint in there to freshen up the place. Wonder what color I should paint. White is nice and bright but hard to keep clean? Suggestions? My office is really pretty. It has maroon/green/gold wallpaper and really doesn't need anything in there. I would think earth tones would work.
I am getting ready to get started in the greenhouse. It has an awesome thermostat system for heating and cooling. I am going to rob all of my plants, trees, and shrubs here at the house and propagate,propagate,propagate. I am going to try to get the power turned on today too. I have tons of seeds here in my personal collection to start. I have a TON of seeds there at the nursery too. I am going to order all of my fern plugs and get them started right away for the hanging baskets too. I don't think I am going to have time to get pumpkins but we are going to do Christmas trees, straw and hay this winter. I think we are going to grow some things here at the house to supply the nursery too. Lots to do, lots to do!

Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes. Look around at online stores for seeds you can buy in bulk for planting to sell. Cheaper that way.
Also check out the Market Growers Forum. They will be a good source for you for bulk supplies and all that jazz!

Nettie, mine is opening now. It is early for it to open yet but it is. Glad yours is doing good too. Summer was hotter and dryer than normal and fall is already cooler than normal, so don't know what to expect next.

Good morning everyone.. Looks like you have all been as busy as I have been..Mechelle congrats on the new business..I bet you do wonderful with it.. I too wish it were a lil closer and I would dig in and help you fulfill your dreams..Charleen Happy belated birthday.. Haha at controling your party animals.. I loved that..Nettie I hope they have your roof fixed by now so you can get some rest.. Theres nothing like having the roof ripped right out from above you to put you to work.. Except I bet Al would say pulling the flooring up, put you right to work too. The temp has dropped here too.. Down to 49 this morning.. Wow we arent usually this cool this early.. I still have a bunch of daylilies I rcd yesterday to get planted.. I guess I will go out and get them planted this morning I hope they have time to grow roots before winter sets in..My oldest son with the breathing problems had a Ct scan of chest and upper abdomen. I spoke with one of the Drs(foriegn very hard to understand grr) at the office Friday, He has a spot ? on his RT lung ( thats always the side that hurts and the lung that shuts down during his attacks, questionably asthma).The radiologist said it looks benign, so if its a tumor?? thats good news.. anyways please keep us in your prayers. I will talk to his main Dr this week (Asthma & Allergy Dr) and see where we go from here. These Dr's down here are ok for colds and simple cuts but modern technology hasnt really reached these backwoods yet, so I cant here and let them continue to do nothing or give the same diagnosis for something that just doesnt fit the symptoms..Ok im out to plant those daylilies that just wont get out of the bag and plant themselves...take care hugs Trish

Hi Trish :-) Hugs and prayers for you and your son. We have the same issues around here about "Hoakie" (*spelling?) doctors and hospitals. Hang in there and keep us updated. I would love to have you come play in the dirt with me. DH is already planning the big grand opening bash! He wants live music, barbecue etc. etc. Sounds like fun to me! Can't wait..
Maybe next year we can host a Round Up at the Nursery? hmm? lol
