New Bees 8/23/10 friends - new and old...Come in

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Son Richie dug some fresh potatoes from Gramp's farm to make our family's mashed potato soup. They are boiled in chicken broth, fresh garlic greens, lots of real bacon pieces, cream, and sour cream added. The potatoes are mashed down but left sort of chunky with skins on. Fairly simple recipe, but tasty and a family favorite since Grandma's day. Geez, food tastes great this time of the year!

i will keep you and yours in my prayers we are all just about ready for fall it comes sooner every year tell your son to be cool ant try not to get up set it only makes it harder to breath. i know ive had it my whole life myne starts in the spring and if we have a dry summer it just goes on into fall. show it that you will win not the alergy. i know how hsrd it is i hate it for some one very young to fight with smothing like that. tell him im going to put him on my prayer list and just leave him on it, because what he has won,t just go away but may get alot better. take care of tour self sounds to me like you have alot of people who need your help. ill also keep all of your family in prayer love and hugs nettie. rest all you can so you don,t get down.

rj, or anyone do we need a new thread we seam to be very long god bless and good night. love you all

Hi Trish, love the gorgeous little hummer! And the petunias are still nice! Mine disappeared but yesterday I saw my black ones blooming again. The heat and dry spells really hurt them.
But Thursday is the first day of fall and maybe it will cool more for us, before the frosts come and take them out for the year.
Sorry about the boys. I'll be praying for them also. You take care, HUGS!

Hi Trish, good to hear from you again! Happy Sunday all.

We're finishing up the new floor with three coats of polyvarnish, this place is starting to look like a gymnasium. We discovered a beautiful maple underlayment when we removed the old carpet in our living room, been working on it ever since. Now we found out we have two more rooms just like it with maple under the old carpet. This might take me the rest of the winter if I can stand the poly smell. Really had a problem keeping our cat away from the newly painted floor, it sort of interupted her lifestyle more than we expected.

Al

I bet it looks awsome Al. Keep it up till you finish it. You will be glad you did and then the smell will be finished. Poor cat!

Booneville, AR

oh al that sounds real nice and much nicer than carpet make your inside air alot better carpet to me is bad it is never clean for very long we are going to put hardwood down as soon as we can we have to put a new roof on first and that isn,t going to be cheap.seams to me things just keep going up just put new counter tops on in the kitchen i sure do like them they are so easy to keep clean. don,t stay in to long with those fumes they can bother a person with good lungs. it would make me real sick. love nettie

Booneville, AR

mekos im so glad your sister is passing those stones wish it was over with real soon i hope love and hugs nettie.

Thanks Nettie, HUGS! You get a good night sleep.

Booneville, AR

hi all hope everyone is feeling good tonight im going yo bed love and hugs nettie

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Okay - Here's my floor project update. Old maple floor is on the bottom, new poly finish is on the top of photo. Sorry, I didn't have time to catch a picture of my cat with all four paws and rear end stuck to new paint! She hasn't been back to the same room since, maybe smart enough to stay away for a few days.

Here's what the rest of the room looks like. We found two more rooms with similar maple underlayment that we plan on refinishing, hopefully before winter.

OH Al, Great find! I know you will love it. AND you did a great job and saved money.
Two thumbs up fo you!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Looks beautiful Al! My parents did the same thing a few years back. It's work to refinish but oh so beautiful when you're done! LOL at the cat - bet she figured that one out real quick...

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

Al, your floors are beautiful! Nice job! And I have to agree, you will be so glad you did it when it's all done. Also gotta agree on the cat, too funny! Bet the poor thing is still pouting and wondering why you did that to her!

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

I don't think pouting is the only word for it, she's been downright hissy about it. Well, at least she matches the woodwork...

LoL AL.. The floors are looking great and the kitty is too cute.. My petunias are still blooming ok.. and these yellow flowers are doing well tho I dont know what they are.. The plant is now covered in blooms.. I thought it was a type of zinnia but I cant find any thing similar.. It was givien to me as a double coreopsis? Charleen thought it might be a dahlia and it does sorta look like a dahlia bloom, but now I dont think it is..I do know its blooming like crazy tho and I am going to try to save some seeds for next year, but the lady who gave it to me said it multiplies readily so I should have some to share next spring..

Here is a Picture of my first ever Angel trumpet bloom.. This is from a cutting Seray sent me..not much to brag about I know but it does my heart proud to see it bloom.. I have some larger Brug plants one is just starting to set buds and the other the largest has no buds on it yet..

my four oclocks are blooming nicely..

Does look like a Dahlia bloom, but I don'tthink it is either... Curious to see if anyone knows - maybe mekos;o)

Pretty Brug. I have some seray sent me as well but unless I get lucky they are not going to bloom this year. They are potted and our summer was so relentless with the heat and the spider mites love the Brugs - lol...

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

Heres a mixed bed with more of those yellow flowers some zinnias, some sedum and lots of grass growing up in it.. It got so hot here for a while I just didnt care if the grass grew up in it or not..

I have one that is big and beautiful "Isabella" and I dont think it is going to bloom either.. yet that lil one has 4 blooms Im still tickled over it since its my first ever to bloom :-)

Heres a close up of the yellow flower

Hmmmmmmmm - now it almost looks like a Mum - lol...

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

LOL I havent a clue but I really dont thing its a coreopsis which is what the lady that gave it to me had it labeled as..

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

My coreopsis is blooming like mad, and has been, but mine isn't a double, and the leaves are different than that.

Hunybunch, your yellow ARE dahlia, I cannot remember the exact name it has but I grew some last year. Like in cars, you got one named ford, well there are lot of different fords??? well it is a Dahlis but which one I can not remember the name.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

haha I was right!!! Heheheheh i was right. it's a wonder. It's a Dahlia. yipieie.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Yeah! I knew mekos would come along and set us straight. Sure looked like a Dahlia bloom but the leaves are not right in my head - lol.

It is one of those hybrid and small kind of dahlias Kelly but I just can't remember the name.
I see them all the time at the garden cebter so when I go back, I'll try to remember the name.
I got something I need IDed. It is yellow/red flower and hollow inside like a baloon or slipper of some kind. It grows hardy here and so pretty around my pond but I don't know what it is.

Another of the bloom close up.

Thumbnail by mekos

Here is another one. It is red and looks a little a cardinal flower or some kind of salvia????

Thumbnail by mekos

This big purple bush is awsome. Full of butterflies and bees all the time.

More of the yellow/red slipper kind a bush.

Mekos, I the the purple one is a Wild ASTER. It is beautiful, but they all are.

Really, that tall and bushy? It is about 7-8 feet or more tall.
