These are growing underneath my Japanese maple tree. Can somebody please identify it? They are really gross. The inside is a gooey ball... and the outer looks like crepe paper.

Compare with varieties of puffball mushrooms. Perhaps overripe explains gooey interior.
Nope. Not at all. It is on the firm side and one left in the ground it grows a long penis shaped structure. Oh my God
This is what the round thing grew into when I pulled it out of the ground. Does anybody know?
Compare with stinkhorn mushroom.
