Good Morning All!
Welcome Jennifer! Glad to have you join us, you will love it here. There is so much info, sometimes it is hard to obsorb all of it!
Thanks for the humor this morning, Tubby! And yes, sorry but true! LOL But so worth it, and the birthday cake sounds wonderful! Don't know why you didn't share some with all of us, Mechelle!
This cold I have is really getting annoying! I have far to much to do to have to take time to cough, sneeze, and blow my nose. LOL
I did get one of my cherry trees planted yesterday, in spite of it. Have to go by more posts and wire today before I can plant more. Have to keep the deer out of them! Just hate having fences around everything, but can't risk the deer killing and damaging all my stuff.
Have lots of traveling today on business, so won't be able to check in til tonight, so have a good day E1!
New bees chit chat thread...Seed Junkies welcome 09/08-09
Jennifer, the moon bush is a Datura. Keep children and pets away from it. Makes a small bush the has white trumpet blooms that open late at night and usually stay open till evening the next day. Poisionous if injested. But a beautiful bushy plant. The trumpet bloom always look up toward the moon, and so white, it almost seems to glow in the dark. Very sweet smell. Can have full sun. I'm not familiar with those other names except the humming bird vine and that grows like a morning glory so needs something to climb up. It will re seed and come back each year in my zone- 7. But both of these make seeds so if they are not hardy there, save seeds and just sow again in spring. The humming bird vine MAY be a cypress vine-they are sometimes called humming bird vine, but there is also another vine by that name and it blooms orange, I believe. I don't have that one but others around here will help you find those others you are trying to find information on.
Hey you guys, if you recognise any of those names Jennifer is trying to figure out (they may be mispelled) if you have a picture of one or a link as where she can look at one, please post them and help her figure out what her seeds are.
OK we know Tubby is feeling better, now. (Wink ,wink.) Glad you are feeling better. Thank you Shirley for keeping us informed. Tubby, did you decide what some of the seeds you would like is? Let us know, we'll try to help you get them.
Going to do a little work this morning. Back later.
Good morning everyone!
Welcome Jennifer! We're a fun and crazy bunch (some crazier than others - lol) and you'll like it here! Mekos (Jan) is the biggest seed junkie and will probably have answers about your seeds.
I'm at work (supposed to be working - lol) and have been really really busy with the boys in school and basketball and football, plus trying to get my fall/winter veggies in the ground, plus trying to get the Iris bed finished (HI MIT!!) and the list goes on and on and on . . .
It was 66° this morning - feels like fall! But, unfortunately, the high will be 98° today and in the low 100s over the weekend. Not cooperative weather for getting the cool season veggies planted... But, with the nights being a bit cooler I think I'll take the chance and direct sow this weekend. I also have broccoli and tomatoes started inside I will harden off and plant out hopefully within the next week or two.
Mit - the Irises are all in big 'ol pots in afternoon shade along with a few I got from mamajack in the middle of the summer. They are doing well and I see some new little green poking out - lol. I gotta get them in the ground, but it's still too dang hot. I am what you call a weather watcher this time of year. Trying to plan your planting according to mother nature's whims is an uphill battle.
Hope everyone has an awesome day!
Ha ha ha - we cross-posted mekos!
See, I told you she would know - lol!
Good morning everyone...Hope your day is filled with bright sunshine and beautiful flowers...
Mine will be filled with lawn grass to cut. greens to get planted and weeds to pull...
Hi Jennifer
I think you might have an Amaranth. Probably just misspelled. Here's the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amaranth_%28color%29
The laveterea are probably these: http://www.thompson-morgan.com/seeds1/group/lavatera.html
We'll know when you plant them huh. LOL
Thanks Seray. I knew you could do it.
YOU guys, I got to tell you. My mail came and you will never guess what came for me from my BESTEST friend- Blondie. That is right? A FLORIDA BUTTERFLY ORCHID !!!!! WOO_HOOO!!! Yippie! and a yanky doodle dandy too. I owe her both arms and legs and anything that girl wants for life. I'm still not believing it. It's unreal, it's amazing. IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I have this baby hanging in my screen room where it can get bright light but stay protected as well.
And Arejay, I didn't even have to shove her up a tree. Now this is totally JOY.
You guys have a great day, I'm going out to admire my baby. I think I'll name her BLONDINA- after my bestest buddy.
We got rain but live far enough from Atlanta, didn't have any problems here.
Nice Fall day and the sun is shinnin. Longears grazing in the pasture; all
is well (as far as I know) on Walton road.
Mekos, so glad you are much better. Hope all the babies get well soon.
May be in for a rough winter but we can hope not.
I remember reading a while back in the farmers almanac that this year would be very wet and this winter would be more wet and ice than usual for us here. I'll go look again and see exactly what they say is coming. Back later.
OH WOW Mekos I bet you do the happy dancy for months.
Hope the little ones get well quick.
HI everyone. I'll have pictures of some hostas I want rid of next time I'm on if my plans don't get messed up.
Well Mindy, I do the Happy Dance for SNOW. We rarely get any of this stuff around here, it goes right around us, last year we go one good one and it was gone in 3-4 days. The year befor that we got a dusting,& gone a few hours later. When I was a kid we use to get good ones all the time. Got 16 inches one day about 15 years ago, I'm thinking we are due one more like that. Just color me fun. The almanac says snow for the southeast in Nov. Mostly rain for the rest of this month. Cooler up north east.(I guess this northeast is Arejay's area) When it snows Arejay, I want pictures.
What about Phoenix, mekos?
Any rain in my forecast?????????
Home a little early today.. I am having a problem. Almost every time I start my seeds, they sprout and I do a happy dance. The problem is that once they are looking like they are going to take off, they wilt and go down. I had a Hibiscus I started from seed and that has happened. I have 2 ROS Blue Satins started and I'm afraid to lose those. What in the world am I doing wrong?
Todays harvest..This is for DD (Sheeri) & her MIL (Mary)..
They are going to make Tomato soup,Salsa & freeze some..
Mary wouldn't take all Shirley ha picked..LOL
Will have call ex BIL see if he needs any..
Mary & Tubby The totato in left hand came close to covering my hand completly.. _________________
You miss your chance..I said Potato in left hand...LOL

24-27-northwest-scattered rain showers accompanied by chilly winds. the southwest- sees gusty winds and cool temperatures. 28-30- showers and rain preceed a shot of sharp cooler air from the pacificnorthwest and rockies. OCT-Kinda rainy till the middle of the month and calling for snow around the rockies. Are you anywhere around the rockies? Trying to picture in my head where you would be exactly. Northwest or southwest. I figure southwest? First part of OCT- windy and showers for the southwest. middle-8-10th- fair. 12-15th- few showers and mild. 16-19th- wet snow from the rockies. 20-23- clear and hot. 24-27th- mostly fair, chilly then turning unsettled. 28-31st-clear skies over the southwest.
Oh my goodness, tubby! those are nothing short of amazing! I hope my veggie garden does well next year. Homemade tomato soup sounds awesome. My husband makes potato soup that is so yummy. Just potatoes, onion, butter & cream, and salt of course. I like to add mixed veggies and brocolli to mine. Good day for soup. Maybe I'll make some for dinner tonight.
WOW Tubby! Now you talking my language. Man! Those are huge. Great work.
Nice tomatoes, Tubby! We sort of got blighted out real bad this year in NY. Some faired better than others, I'm glad somebody is having good luck this year.
Al
Other then a cool summer..We fairded pretty well..
Best year for a long time that we were able to beat the squash bug....Haven't had fresh squash for 5 or 6 yrs..
Tubby
Dancing with you Mekos for your Butterfly orchid. How pretty. Are you sure Blondie's not up in a tree somewhere. LOL
Nice looking haul on maters Tubby!!! Always makes you happy to see them come in so abundantly even though the work intensifies when you get them in the house. LOL Glad you are up and about. STAY WELL!!! Hugs to you both.
This will be our second year for no squash worth talking about. I'm blaming it on the lack of bees. I guess next year I'll try to hand pollinate.
Just got an up date on the babies with flu. SO MUCH BETTER TODAY. ISN'T GOD GREAT?!? They want to thank everyone for the prayers. You all are GREAT bunch of friends yourselves! BLESS you all.
Mekos, so happy for the babies and family. Yes, God is Great! Yippee!
Tubby, nice maters! Mine did nothing this year. Had one small mater and the deer ate it! But I am still hoping, as I have a tomato tree (supposed to grow 8 feet tall) that is in a pot and it's still blooming, so am hoping I can keep it going and have fresh maters in November (maybe?) after I move it inside. LOL!
Didn't have to head down the road for meeting after all. They told me to stay home and we would do a conference call instead. I don't think they want my germs> LOL
You get well Skellogg.Hope you are feeling better. Get lots of rest and drink lots of fluids. We're still praying for you also. Take care and keep us updated on how you are. Big huggs.
Thanks, Mekos! The fluids are easy, and taking lots of extra vit C, but still working on the rest part. So hard for me to do that, when I would much rather be working outside getting things ready for winter and still have a few things I need to get in the ground. LOL!
HI ALL

blondie
mekos - Phoenix is smack-dab in the Southwest, the Southwest desert that is - lol.
We've definitely had winds, not so much cool temps. Supposed to be 98° today and 101° the next few. The nights have been cooler, though... in the 70s. It was actually 66° this morning when I left for work!
Time to head for home. Talk to you all later!
hi blondie!
nice 'maters tubby!
Pretty Hostas Mindy03
tubby, those tomatoes would make lots of salsa. Yum Yum
Hostas going to be pretty, once you get them going. Do you have
deer? I have to keep mine in a fenced area with a dog.
Seray the Brug seeds arrived a couple days ago...Sorry I didn't get to say THANK YOU then..
Flowerfantasy Climatis seeds are here..Thank You...
MechelleT Did you bottom water the Hibiscus..
Tubby
HI Everyone
Yep we have deer here but they rarely come up close to the house. They do have a pathway through my flower garden though and can sometimes be seen checking things out early in the morning. They don't bother my stuff though they did demolish a butterfly bush my sister gave me as soon as it was in the ground. I don't have much trouble out of the wildlife here though that could change if I don't get another outside dog to replace DJ.
Does anyone have muscadine grapes? DH is looking for some.
Because I have too many that's why. LOL I only have one extra of the solid green one, lets see I think there's 3 if not 4 of the striped ones with the purple flowers (yellow on the edges) and I can get extras of the other striped one (yellow in the middle)
Anyone interested? I'm only going to keep one of each for myself.
I just planted 30 myself and I think that's enough for me this year. Just don't have room for them or I'd give them a good home. Someone will be happy to have them. I'll ask around for you if no one speaks up. Do you have a public garden near? They might take them.
My DH has two muscadine grape vines he's had potted up all summer. (Not just two 'sigh') Anyway he says he'll be glad for you to have a couple of them. They're the purple kind. He said he'd look for the variety name. Dmail me if you want them.
Have a question - How do you get all the extraneous stuff sifted out
from the seed? I've tried 3 different sifters (of varying fineness) and
still end up trying to pick it all out. Its driving me crazy.
