Oh I didn't know that. Guess you learn something new every day LOL I don't use them any way.
New bees chit chat thread...Seed Junkies welcome 09/08-09
My daughter has a black walnut tree in her back yard, I don't much care for them. They're messy trees to clean up in the fall. Not much of anything worthy will grow near them because of the toxins in the soil. The nuts harvested aren't even that great. They just grow natural around here, like giant weeds.
Al
We used to collect walnuts from a great big tree when I was a kid. Laid them all out on the gravel driveway and after the husk were smushed from the car and dried we picked up the nuts. We took turns with a brick for a base and a hammer to shell them out. (Actually my brothers fought over who got to go first LOL). My mother made the best candy. So they have a soft spot in my heart.

If the tree has any size..You might find someone who wants it for the lumber..Try a free add in paper..
Tubby
Hiya Tubby!

Tubby
That's cool, Tubby! Must mean you're a nice guy . . . with a nice boss!
Hi Tubby! Good to hear from you again! Glad you are home and doing better! What a nice boss! You must be a very good employee, and obviously nice also, or he wouldn't bother. Sounds like a great guy!
Yea Tubby! Good to see you are back. You don't over do it now. Yippee.
Hello everyone. I took the shovel and turned the dirt on the Lasagna garden and found lots of worms and a few humongus grub worms, and decided to add another set of layers to fight the hay. If that don't work, I'll do the plastic cover and that will work.
I got some black EEs too.
Good to see everyone is making it through the rain and floods. We got a little sun today too.
Gonna start putting up the frame for my greenhouse this weekend just in case the weather hits unexpectedly. I saw they got snow in colorado. MAN! It's still in the 80's here.
Hello Ladies
How is everyone tonight? Jan how are you doing? Are you staying out of trouble? I bet you have more seeds then Burpee. Has anyone seen the wonderful dark haired Goth Girl who loves to stir up her brew. ;-) Hi Sherri, how is that lasagne bed coming along. I saw some picture a while back and it looked terrific. Hi Kelly, did you ever get the new bed ready for the irises. Where is Robin? Hi Robin!!!
I see some serious flooding down south. That flooding would wipe out every iris I have. The bearded irises will rot with all that rain. I hope everyone is well. I can't believe there are so many new names in the past month..... I bet the newbies came to visit and now they're under the spell of the resident vampire and Lucy. Thats a good thing !!!!
I didn't mean to interupt the chat. Just wanted to say hello to my "seed Junkies" and of course to all the new junkies. You guys are a special bunch. Love ya lots !
Ok, I'm off to the iris forum to see if I can wake some people up
HI Mitt glad to see you stop in and chat. Hijack us anytime we don't mind we'll just hijack it back from you when we get ready. I'm having a sorta lazy day after canning pumpkin for 2 days.
Hi Mitt, hope all is good there. It did this rain thing back in the spring and rotted my banana trees right down. I got another one growing now and praying the wet ground will be ok. I got a few seeds-Hmmmm. A FEW (hundred) Lot's more was ruined by the rain. So many sprouted in the pod and that wasn't good. But tomorrow is another day. I haven't heard from our goth girl today. School is back on and she has to help her son with his homework now so not on as much. She will check in when she can. Good to hear your Iris are doing good. We survived the floods so far. The plants look ok, maybe will dry a little before the rain comes again. Come back when you can.
Where is Robin? Haven't heard from her either today. AREJAY !!!!! Where are you girl?????
I got an envelope of seeds, going out to you tomorrow little friend.
Gooode eeeevening everyone :)
Homework done early for once WOOT!
HI Cue Getting your box ready to send soon. Cannas are blooming good so a few more days and I'll be digging them up have too much other stuff waiting on me to do to keep them going til frost. You want one or two of the poinicanas?
Mitt was looking for you and went to find the Iris forum. Where is Arejay? She around?
Hello Goth Girl. I was just talking about you

Mitt - you turned vampire hunter now? My ears were burnin...LOL
mekos - my brugs have just started to produce buds. when I say tiny.. I mean as in 'grain of rice' tiny.. so hopefully nothing eats them, drops them... yada yada
Robin is either polishing up on her latin or she is picking blueberries
Hi Mindy. How are you? How is the Kentucky weather?
Sherri are you there or did you get washed away? That flooding is horrible. Does anyone know where all that rain came from......Hurricane or tropical storm?
I'm so surprised there are so many newbies on your chat line. I don't know anyone any more :-(
Mitt - the Iris are putting out new leaves. they look happy in their new Goth home WOOT!
New leaves are good Kel. With new leaves come new roots. Watch for some new babies starting to grow also. It sounds like they're very happy in Florida.
Not sure Mitt about the rain, the news were talking about a hurricane that came a few years ago and I got confused if we got another one or the cold front meeting the high front caused this mess. Supposed to be more on the way for a couple days more but not as bad as this last go round. We got 10 days of steady rain. I almost started building a boat to float off on. Some had it rougher than us here. Just a few miles away got evacuated and their homes got flooded and roads flooded. Fields of crops flooded. The water was as high as the barns and tops of corn tassels was under water. Tomatoe fields were under water. Cattle and horses had to be evacuated out and poor little pigs were on top of buildings in the fields. And we are not close to big bodies of water (oceans). We are under the mountains. All the rain run off comes down on us, when it's bad. First time I remember it being this bad in several years. Thank GOD there wasn't wind with this stuff. As soaked as the ground was, trees would have come down easy.
Seray is my new best friend.. and that's all I'm going to say about that (in my Forest Gump voice)
She is awesome, the bomb, love her to pieces!!!
Today is the better than any Christmas I can remember! LOL
My daylily lasagna garden is going to be to DIE for..
My kids are looking at me like I'm crazy but I do not even care right now!
LOL, Mechelle
Woo Hoo, you go Seray and Mechelle. Got to love them daylilies! Seray does Christmas all the time. She IS awsome! Gonna call her Mrs. Santa, now.
LOL, here comes Santa Clause, Here comes Santa Clause, Right down Santa Clause Lane
LMAO.. It's like Xmas and my birthday
Mechelle you have to get rid of the daylillies and start a lasagne bed for irises. lol
HO HO HO HI All
Mitt no flooding on coastal GA. We'll wait for the hurricanes before we have to swim to safety. Thanks for asking though. My lasagna bed is topped with the most gorgeous iris bulbs. Waiting for spring to delight the eye. Thanks again!
Mekos I'll throw you a life line and you can float down to Savannah for safety if need be. We'll take Gilda on tour whether she has any hair or not. LOL We can eat at Paula Dean's and visit the hidden gardens of Savannah. Might want to bring Blondie with her homemade stun gun though.
Where is Blondie? Haven't seen her in awhile. Arejay's still working on all those seeds we sent her. :)
I cant wait to see the daylily bed!
Got one of those too Mitt, lol
I have 8 beds and adding.... I have that little container that I'm doing too, gonna have succulents in it. It'll be purdy. I need to find a place (or make my own) signs for them. "Ye Olde Goth Garden" lol
Well guys, I have to get off of here and get some things done. It's been an awesome day.. Got my hair cut by a Paul Mitchell Artistic Director today.. Love it.. came home and my lovely young daughter Courtney made dinner-for the 2nd day in a row, and I had 2 wonderful packages to wrap it all up. Thank you all, for everything.. You have truly made my life complete ;-) Hugs, Mechelle
You are worth it Mechelle. Good night.
I'm a little delinquent in getting back on here to say thank you to Arejay and everyone who provided the free seeds for newbies. I was a recent recipient of one of these bundles of joy, and am most excited about the coming growing season (and it's not even mid-Fall here, yet! LOL).
Thanks so much!
Jennifer
Welcome Jennifer!!!
It's almost as much fun for us to hear you got your packet as it is for you. We all remember when we got ours! Just like a surprise Birthday present.
Come back often we think up lots of things to keep us busy. We'll be sprouting something through the winter for a contest or a group project. We're talking about black plants for a Goth Garden now. LOL Who knows! We have fun and there's always room for more.
Sounds good! And thanks again. I know I have a few questions about some of the seeds sent to me. I tried to go through the plant files to identify them and figure out where they might be best in my garden, but couldn't pin down a few of them. Some of them I'm just not familiar with at all yet to know if it's a vegetable, plant, tree, vine, etc. If anyone recognizes any of the following and can point me in the right direction for info about it, I'd be most appreciative! I'm thrilled with the seeds; just need to get some idea of what a few of them area so I know how/where to plant them in the yard in terms of size, exposure, etc.
Giant Ameriath Goliath Red
Moon Flower Bush
White Lavelatera
Pink Lavatera
Hummingbird Vine
Thanks again!
Jennifer
HI Mitt the weather in this part of KY is cloudy with rain showers off and on most of which have moved to the night hours instead of during the day. No heavy rain so far just good shhowers. The irises from you are doing great.
Welcome Jennifer hope you come back and chat with us we like getting new people joining us they might teach us something.
Well today I do housework then get the shady bed ready to dig up.
To Cute
How come when you mix water
and flour together
you get glue?..
and then you add eggs
and sugar...
and you get cake?
Where did the glue go ?
NEED AN ANSWER?
You know darned well where it went!
That's what makes the cake stick to your butt
We all need a good laugh, keep on smiling.
HI Tubby but that cake is sooo worth it if it's Banana Snack Cake or Buttermilk Chocolate Cake
Good Morning E1,
LOl Tubby, sad but true, especially for us girls. My son's bday cake was a chocolate turtle caramel cake. OMG it was to die for. I couldn't stop eating it, lol.
Mekos, thank you, you are so good to me.
Welcome Jennifer, hope to see you more. We'll try to get on here and help you with your seeds tonight.
Have to go get ready for school. Hope everyone has an awesome day..
