Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

fresh honey...yummy...and the honey combs don't taste that bad either served with soe vanilla ice cream

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Venice, I don't think I can get a camera in position to take a picture. The opening is only about 4 or 5 inches and is almost against the back of the bin, just a couple inches of clearance. Did that to keep the oppossum and raccoons out of the hive. Had a hive chunk a few years ago and left it open so we could check on it. Darn critters got into it and mangled the comb and the bees. a month or so later one of the oppossums made a nest in it and had a litter of kits....not what you want in backyard suburbia....grin

(Zone 5b)

yeah Moon word is out about the loonies loose on DG hahaha

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

hey now...I have documented proof of my looniness darn it!

Of course with 5 teenagers who wouldn't be loony?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Well, what is the size of the comb now?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

hey moon...I gotta dumb question for you

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, you are loony? I just thought you were a little witch?! Since I haven't known one before, I just assume you only have characteristics of a witch!!!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

of course I'm loony

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

We like you that way!!!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I like me that way to or I would go crazy and shoot people...speaking of people I would like to shoot the former bad neighbor with the dog wants me to call her.....uhg....darn me and my too niceness!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Moon oh Moon where are you...I have a silly question for you...Moon are you hiding over there? Nope she wasn't there

Where oh where could the Moon go to hide?

(Zone 5b)

lol sounds like one of the kid's books

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Now that I re-read it your right it does....lol
Better than this morning when I was singing "Oh tinkerbell Oh Tinkerbell how jagged are your fangs" to my dog to the melody of Oh Christmas tree!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I am here. Got six irons in the fire and trying not to get burned...grin. Your question Trina?

Your answer Venice, The comb appears to fill a cavity that is almost the depth of the trunk's width and about a foot and a half tall. I cut the chunk about three feet long, and the ends are solid so I got all of it. My arm span, from finger tip to finger tip is about 68 inches, and I could not quite encircle the trunk, so I would say approximately1.5 ft by 2.5 ft at a guess. It is an old active hive and has probably been around for a few years.

What category does a "Hen and chicks" plant fall into?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon I am just curious to see how much bigger it gets. I am glad you have it more protected from the critters.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

They fall in the group known as succulents. Sempervivum tectorum...and yes, here is your link....grin

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Venice, I would imagine they will continue to hollow out the trunk as much as they can and when they break through the ends, they will possibly relocate.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

LOL and here is my pic...they were hiding under the marigolds

What a happy mama hen with her chicks....you need to mulch the area around them for the winter to help keep them from heaving in the cold.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

You have a nice little family there!!!

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Trina, we have the same sneakers! and this is a turtlehead:

uhg! the evil Chupacabra puppy was attacking me...she goes to the puppy doctor tomorrow!

Honestly...I have to say its the one plant I DON'T like....can't I just use the marigolds to mulch it when they die down?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I love my skechers!!!! And I like those I will gladly take some turtleheads off your hands!

Maybe they can compete with my neighbors nasty suprise lilies that are trying to take over my yard and are growing through the fence

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

I sometimes wish I didn't work. Then I could play all day. I know I'm not freaking out, but when I came on earlier, on the home page, on the right, it said "chat room open". so I clicked on it and felt like I walked in the wrong door, so I left. But I know it was there... but now (and every other time I've been on DG) it is the spot for "today's articles". anyone else experience that?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

weird things been happening all over the site for two days....I went to tools then plant files and was redirected to a porn site...didn't know a human could bend that way!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, my gaura bush is a little scranny. I have cut it back twice since spring and I have forced it to bloom twice. There aren't many blossoms and they are small. There are woody parts to the center of the plant, left over I guess. But the plant just doesn't look full. What does it need?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, watch where you put those fingers!!!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

The chat room pops up at odd times throughout the day and night....ya think they might want us to go there instead of here? laughing derisively....grin

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

they DO spread like the dickens. and they have really cool winter bones. and if someone would kindly tell me how to send them, I surely would. oh, and they're about as tall as I am (5'3" or so). blooming now, too.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

oh my gosh, roll me over laughing. was I talking about the turtleheads spreading or Trina's porn site?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Smiley, I think that is a weird plant. The leaves are a little freaky with those delicate blossoms.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

ok we have the same shoes, we're the same height....scary....LOL

send roots in fall before it freezes at night would be my suggestion

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

LOL Smiley!!! I ain't never shut my laptop so fast in my life! My 12 yr old daughter was looking over my shoulder when it happened!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, did you see my gaura question?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I think Moon's galavanting again she'll get to it when she gets back I'm sure

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Here ya Venice....down to just a few irons in the fire. This should give you some basics. If ya have additional questions holler, I'll hear ya. Grin

I would Moon but my little Netbook here doesn't print....and the kids downloaded a virus onto our regular puter that even our techno geek can't figure out right now...he's been working at isolating it for a week now

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Venice, turtleheads are hardy. they don't look delicate live and in person.

Trina, I sent you a d mail if you really want them. or anyone. I love to share. can't find the pecan praline recipe yet.

back to the grind.
