Is There Ever Too Much of Luping's Basil?

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks Rachel, but he was just trying to see if he could get more to grow, and thinking about planting them at the forty if they do. He has 2 black walnut trees at his house, and one is loaded with black walnuts. The trick is to get to them before the chipmunks do.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks Rachel........I saved it's life, because where I work they would have just pulled it as a weed.

(Zone 5b)

that's pretty....wouldn't mind those.
if I get the nerve to go out to the scary stalk tomorrow I'll get a picture. If Malakai gets me I did it for you guys

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Somehow I don't think one stalk will give Malachai enough place to lay in wait.....he's just not that skinny....grin

Hi Rachel....how goes it this evening?

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh Lynn, you would have been in trouble at my mom's place. Her garden had corn in it every year. When I was taking care of her one year, my nephew swore that I watered the corn, because it was taller then him.
He lived right next door and hardly had any corn. He planted to early the first time and most of it froze out, and when it replanted it was too dry so that didn't grow either.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Has anyone seen Dave around?
I told him I wished I could send my son over to take care of his computer for him. I'm thinking he is still having computer problems :(

Keaau, HI

Hi folks,

I've been doing research for a couple non-profits that I work with (Big Island Native Plant Society & Malama O Puna).

The BINPS is soon launching a web-site that I will be moderator of. One of the features will be a photo library of Big Island plants (you'se have seen several of the photos already).

I agree with Rachel; let's see that funny kind corn plant!

Keaau, HI

Here is hard work paying off!

I hilled up soil and fertilized my Dendrocalamus stricta, Iron Bamboo, at the beginning of the Summer, and the plant looks like it is going to double in size, putting out several new shoots.

This is one of them.

"Hey Dave, a little help over here, why don't ya?"

Here is Kea a few months ago, giving garden advice.

cute! is that bamboo behind him (or her)?

Keaau, HI

This is Buddha Belly Bamboo, Bambusa ventricosa.

(Zone 5b)

buddha belly ha I like it!
I saw a house somewhere with the coolest stand of black bamboo in the yard...I don't know if that spreads like other types, but it sure looked cool. I think it was in Maine.

Keaau, HI

Yes, Kea loves her Bamboo.

Here is Bambusa vulgaris 'Vittata'.

Kea looks grumpy...I think you're bothering her....

Keaau, HI

Hi Lynnie, you're up early.

You're Black Bamboo is probably the same a Jean's: Phyllostegia nigra var. nigra.

This is Schizostachyum glaucifolium, Hawaiian 'Ohe!

Keaau, HI

Oops! The Bamboo genus was supposed to be Phyllostachys not Phyllostegia, which is a Hawaiian Mint. I'm firing the Editor!

This is Phyllostegia floribunda an endangered Hawaiian Rainforest Mint!

Everyone has their own tastes. Personally I like Bamboo and Hawaiian Mint.

It didn't bother Kea that much either. She got her doggie treat / biscuit; that was our agreement!

I went back to sleep for a while, fortunately!
Bamboo & mint, I like it. Are you propagating these endangered species?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Dave, that bamboo is gorgeous.....I wish I had the space and wherewithall to plant them all. I do love bamboo....shame DHJim doesn't....well not in his yard....grin

Kea looks like she could keep you in line if necessary....grin

(Zone 5b)

here's the big weed....

Oh No, Lynnie, you have corn and it has white flies....grin. But, you have nothing to worry from Malachai...he would never let the children's corn have pests...what a trade off. Grin

Keaau, HI

I can't propagate the Hawaiian Mint, it lives in a rare old growth rain forest.

I do propagate Bamboo; here is part of the Bamboo nursery.

Dave, what have you been doing to Kea? In the first picture she looks scared, and in the next one she looks mad...............LOL

And Dave, that picture was not at the forty! The other one you posted sure looked like it was though!

Big scarry corn Lynn.................LOL
Sure looks like corn to me. We have a whole field of it next to my BF's....Should I take a picture of the big field of it? Never know, I might find Malachai.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Hmmmmmm......a Bamboo nursery..............Hmmmmm
Do they favor pink or blue?

Keaau, HI

I think they favor green, Kassy.

(Zone 5b)

probably not even good corn, either, probably cow corn....Malakai is probably living in the playhouse.
Jim you could fix that corn of pests pretty quick, I bet. I saw aphids on it too. It's keeping the pests away from my other plants, though. I hope. lol

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

That's how I feel about asclepsias, milk weed. The aphids bunch up on it and pretty much leave the rest alone.

Living in the playhouse.....weedeedoodooo, weedeedoodooo...twilight zone music......grin

Nice looking bamboo, Dave. So you gonna be running a website? That is too cool. Good on you, sounds like important stuff being worked on.

Keaau, HI

Hi Jean, I'll be answering questions about Hawaiian plants, and maintaining that no one gets nasty on the forum. I guess I'll holding the all powerful delete button.

(Zone 5b)

Dave you'll be administration!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

OH OH, he would delete us :(

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Naaahhh, but he might make us start a new thread...LOL

Hey, Dave, you'll have to figure out if there is room for gypsies there.....grin

Keaau, HI

No chance of that Kassy!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Dave! HELP! I need that e-mail address again!!

Keaau, HI

The guy who is designing the web-site is a former Grateful Dead roadie and spent a lot of time hanging out at what was known as the "Hog Farm". I'm sure gypsies and rebels are welcome!

Keaau, HI

Which e-mail address Kassy?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

We would even promise to behave....wouldn't want to embarrass you....grin

That is too cool.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Dave, the e-mail to send the picture of the Sicyos to........I wouldn't do it at my BF's on dial up because when you get something typed out and ready to send and hit send, your off line 9 time out of 10.
I scrolled back though 3 of our theads and didn't find it.
Can you give it to me again please ^_^

Keaau, HI

I think it was this one Kassy.

Thanks Dave ^_^
I have it saved on my computer now and will be able to find it, unless my hard drive blows.
Way past bed time for me.
Nite ^_^

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Have a good night Kassy, don't let'em work ya too hard.
