Is There Ever Too Much of Luping's Basil?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

It is at least a double entendre....maybe triple if ya through in Tim Curry....

K, you have to explain the Tim Curry reference to me, a little slow sometimes LOL!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Well it's not on my home page!
And I almost didn't make it back in. Had to have them e-mail me my password.......good thing I remembered what e-mail account I used or I would have been sunk.

LOL! Glad you made it back! What thread are you guys talking about? Now I'm curious! :)

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

OK hold on, i'll find what Jean put in.

Have you seen Dave or Jim?

Jim should have gotten the seeds today I think.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Here Ican, this is what Jean put in
Good Afternoon, Kassy. Hey, Dixiegril's thread in plant ID is being used as a" what's happening on DG" on the Home page...even mentions gypsies...grin

I logged out and didn't find it.

Ah! Thank you! I'll take a look around to. Maybe it got pulled for mentioning gypsies LOL!

Hey Kassy I think I found the thread, http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1030557/

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

(Zone 5b)

Ican just checked out your other pictures...now I want to go back! Boy it sure looks nice & cool there...still muggy here...I think I have corn stalks in my backyard, there's some monster weeds out there right now.
glacier cruise & fresh from the oven chocolate chip cookies?? Count me in :)

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Your corn stalks are probably Johnson grass....it can get huge and looks like corn, sort of.

How weird...62 degrees this morning...set a record. Gonna get up to 92....30 degree stretch...almost like fall.

Delhi, LA

Hi all. Welcome home Ican, enjoyed your pics. Good looking kid, favor Mom or Pop?

Long day yesterday, didn't get her into surgery until 3 p.m. Got home about seven in bed by nine. Surgery went well, nothing unforseen. Doc is sure it is benign and probably won't come back. If it does it is a very slow growing type and she will die of old age before it gives her trouble again. May have to go to Jackson, Miss. for a surgery tomorrow. Waiting to find out. Got another Friday but it is at a local hospital.

Got the seeds in the mail yesterday, Kassy. How deep do I need to plant them? Thought I might plant some in a container that I could move in the green house with cold weather. Does the sage need to go in the ground or can I plant it in a container?

Got to get to the rehab. Talk to you guys later. Got three visits to make this afternoon. Gees, I need to be gardening. Maybe if I do HIS work HE"ll bless my work.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

He will certainly bless you, Jim. Good news on your friend. I know it means a lot to have you in their corner. Take care and don't get too run down.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Jim, I just sent you 2 sites, one on chives and one on sage, and yes, a sage plant can be growen in the house.........That huge one that is in my flower bed started out in the house.

(Zone 5b)

Yikes I'm ready for a coffee break! We've been out all day, hairdresser, mall, school supplies, new duds, and groceries....scored some of those big cookies at the mall (it's ok I had salad for lunch) had to have 'em after Ican put the idea in my head.
I've been mentally planning my privacy border...I have those 3 evergreens (one white eastern pine, 2 fat albert spruces) and I was thinking a yellowish tree (honeylocust?) and a mimosa tree, & shrubs for birds/bees/butterflies...viburnum, lilac, rhodies, witch hazel...then it will end at the rock garden/fountain area which will have some evergreens around it.... what do you all think?
Where has Dave been?
Jim get some rest!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Sounds like work....pretty and varied, but work....grin. seriously, just make sure you balance your evergreens in your privacy border so you don't wind up with big gaps of naked trees and shrubs all winter.

I am a bit concerned about Dave since his ER trip. Haven't seen him around much. Hope he is just really busy.

(Zone 5b)

Maybe he is carb loading...hopefully just busy.
Yes, I'll try to balance the border....I'll put some more evergreens in the mix, there are so many cool ones out there...that website you posted a link to was awesome!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I am so glad it helped. I made the mistake when I did my very first border of not mixing and spacing evergreens....had huge gaps of naked stuff with the odd evergreen here and there...sort of defeated the purpose. and increaces the workload astronomically having to move stuff.

(Zone 5b)

I'm glad you mentioned it, I probably wouldn't have thought of it. I was good about planting evergreens around the other bed, but that was because I had "extras." The shrubs I picked flower at different times, and the trees are for height (although everything will be small for a while!) and I was just going for whatever I like, since I won't care about messy leaf drop or anything.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

That's the way to go. I think you of the best song lines is "Can't please everyone, just got to please yourself" odd that the song is Garden Party...grin You should plant the things you love and enjoy, after all, you'll have to care for it...grin

The difference between landscaping and gardening is simply that a landscaper chooses plants to fit a set design and a gardener plants the things they love and creates haven. I'll never have a" landscape", but I will grow what I choose to plant.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I'm with you there Jean ^_^
I love my flowers.
I just planted another small sweet williams that is red and that I grew from seed. It had just started to blossom. I'm hoping the little thing will make it though the winter. I have a bigger one that just won't bloom for some reason!
I have a feeling I'm going to be trying to talk me BF into bringing some of the potted things into the house ^_^

(Zone 5b)

Kassy my friend has one of those sweet william, nice plant.....it's a shade plant, isn't it? Or am I getting confused with sweet woodruff?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Just tell him it is part of a basement beautification program geared to making you happy over the winter....grin

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

No Lynn, sweet williams are dianthus.............I just have a few colors of them. Only sending about 6 different colors of seeds from them to someone who asked for them. I have to wait until the last two that just blossomed set seeds so I can collect them. Hopefully but the next time I am up at his place.

Jean, we can't use the basement. Were up north where it gets very cold and to top it off, he burns wood. He has oil as a back up that kicks in if the house is too cold when he is at work. But so far he is not working.
Trust me, old one room school house were not that well insulater. I know, and I remember how high my mom's oil bill was to heat hers too.
So the plants with have to join us in the living room................LOL
Well some can go in the laundry room, nice south window there for them.

This is one of my sweet williams or dianthus. And I'm still trying to figure out where this color came from.........LOL

Seeds have a tendency to revert sometimes, or to just go off in their own direction. grin

(Zone 5b)

oh I love dianthus...

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Here you go Lynn, we just have a few

Oh and this is the color that very light pink one should have been.

Jean, I'm thinking it got cross polinated with my pink peony poppies

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Kassy I had a few plants with that coloration from a packet of mixed dianthus seeds. I truly love them and every year tuck a few more in here and there. The fragrance is delightful and they ask for so little.

(Zone 5b)

very pretty Kassy! :) as good as the big chocolate chip cookie I had today
and those are sun plants, aren't they?

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Yes, they love the sun

But tell me what color this one is.........not real red and not pink.....hmmmmm

Lynnie, you are a busy Lady as usual;-)

Hope all has had a great day.

Keaau, HI

Hows'it Folks!

I'm back, thanks for the concern. Rachel's right, I was very busy; I was cleaning my CP of viruses that shut my machine down yesterday morning.

Cool Lizards and Indian Pipe plants, Monotropa uniflora, Rachel!
Your place must be very pristine. I'd love to see that.
What happen to the storm? Hopefully inland didn't get what the coast got.

Looks like everyone is gardening, getting ready for school and work, or chasing glaciers. Life is good!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good evening Rachel, Dave. Good to see you guys. Rachel, I really like the Indian Pipes. So cool. Dave, we were just worried you might be having further problems. Glad it was CPU and not you.

Cool, Band o' gypsies is complete. all present and accounted for...or fairly accountable...grin

Kassy, that color my dear is Gypsy Rose....grin

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Dave, do you remember the virus that was out one year that found a hole in windows and would come though and shut computers down after you booted them up? It was a number of years back, and I know some of my chat friends got hit with it, and so did my BF but that was before he was my BF.

My son was working as a teck support at our interent provider at the time. When they went into work and booted up the computers, all of them shut down except two of them. One was a mac. And they other one had just had undates done on it the day before. They fielded hundreds of calls that day. He called here and asked if mine was ok. I had not booted it up yet at that point. He told me to boot it up. I did and it stayed running ^_^.

Because we have a external modum for all of our computers, he thinks that worked as a fire wall and kept the worm from coming into mine. He downloaded that patch for it when he got home that night.
