Is There Ever Too Much of Luping's Basil?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

This palm is about 6ft tall. It gets slow release osmocote every 3 months and Miracle grow liquid once every 4 to 6 weeks.So. it has been getting more nitrogen than phosphorus, because it also gets watered with aquarium water about every three weeks. I may have a sudden growth spurt fixing to happen when it goes into the ground.

Hey Jean, on the Palm thread you mentioned your palm is an offset from your mother's plant.
Isn't Caryota maxima supposed to be a solitary trunked palm?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

For 25 years that has been the name of this palm....I just googled a bunch of pictures....I have absolutely no idea who this palm is...absolutely a fish tail...questionably a palm.

I really was sure the original ID was correct. Now, I am just as sure it isn't....I need to edit a post. Thanks Dave. Now, Any idea who this plant is?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Okay. I have the Clustering Fishtail Palm, Caryota mitis 25

Check out this link Dave and see if you agree.

I've got Caryota mitis. When it gets light out, I'll get some close-ups of the leaf-lets. I'll check out descriptions to see if there is anything that stands out too look for.

Good news would be that the palm is long lived and is easy to grow.

It is also very high in oxalate, and the sap can burn your skin.

Now that things are back to normal, I guess this is a good time to show some palms!

Here is Euterpe oleracea, the Acai Palm.

Hey Rachel looks like Hurricane Bill is headed your way; you gonna be okay. Want me to come over there and help!
Let me know what's happening! The evening news made it look pretty nasty on the coast.

This is Kaneohe Poni, a Hawaiian Sweet Potato, Ipomoea batatas. A traditional Hawaiian food that provides high quality carbohydrates. (A good subject lately!)

Here is Hawaiian Taro, Colocasia esculenta var. esculenta. More good carbs (corms) and good veggies (leaves).

Bill was a nasty one,all right....
Dave make sure you eat plenty of palms today ;)
I have to work and then I'm on call till tomorrow morning....
You guys have a good day, stay cool!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good morning, all. have a good day Lynnie. Don't let them run you ragged.

Dave, I understand why you guys eat the Ipomoea and esculentus....if you didn't they would overgrow the whole island.grin Do you also have Diplazium esculentum, vegetable fern? That is another goodie that can take over when it gets happy. Neat thing is it is completely edible also.

Looks like more weather cooking in the Atlantic....We have had two days with no rain and last night the temp actually dropped to 65, a record breaking low for us. rain is scheduled to return Wednesday.

Dave, all the information on my instructions/info paper are for C.mitis , everything but the name was right. Guess I should have been more curious all these years...grin

Amazing the things that show up in the garden...grin. You may just have to sit outside for a few minutes until the butterflies forget you are there...grin

BTW, I really like your POTENTILLA....ROTFL...grin

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

OK, now how did we get that thing? And it will never make it to 3 feet high......not in the lawn it won't.

Funny thing is, it says it grows along roadsides......I think I have to take my camera after I am done with dishes and take a walk down the road!

hi everybody! got home late, having a late dinner, starving!
Moon how do you keep them from running you ragged? I was lucky to get lunch today.
those peppers look especially tasty Kassy. I hate when I finish dinner & I'm thinking "what else can i eat?" And that's what I'm thinking....

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Be too busy to listen when they try to add on to your already overloaded schedule....grin...my Mom would say "Learn to say no."...like that ever worked...grin

(Zone 5b)

It sure does look like your can tree is growing Kassy. I think it's a keeper;-)

Lynnie, sound's like your a very busy lady.

Jean hope you have had a great day and hope you get your palm correctly identified.

Dave, Your welcome here anytime and you have just got to show the cluster of flower's on that Pinanga caesia of your's! I love the Taro's and I actually have one in bloom "I think"! Smiling all over myself.

Adding a pic of the campsite lizard's that hang out on the mountain land.

Hope everyone is doing well and has had a great day.

Cool Lizards Rachel. I love them. Are those Eastern fence swifts?

Figured out the palm is a clustering fish tail....Caryota mitis.

(Zone 5b)

I have NO chocolate in the house...grrr...
that lizard is starting to look tasty.

(Zone 5b)

fern or weed?

Thumbnail by Lynnie6868

Ha, Lynnie! You got to catch those lizard's first.

Your plant is a fern......you can call it a weed though if you would like.

Jean, I have no idea what kind of lizard's those are. They have just been hanging around that site for a few year's. They have gotten kind of use to my voice and stayed long enough for me to capture a picture or two of them yesterday.

Here is another picture of a very cool plant that I admire when I see it here.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

How neat. Now, is that just pushing out of the ground buds or just pushing out of the ground fungus? A rather ethereal looking little guy.

Gee Lynnie, my next suggestion was gonna be Cocoa and cinnamon toast....sorry.

K I posted AK pics on the wrong thread but you'll just have to go there to check the rest out cause I'm not reloading them :)
Here are the two last pics I was going to post then you have to go to Basil Mint and other goodies, man I just can't keep up LOL!
