Me too...may have to go for four....buzz buzz. My mom spent years gathering information and photographs, some of them were tin-types. The information is still out there, the photos are unfortunately irreplaceable....foolish children. My sister's job was to copy and disperse....she felt as the oldest it should come to her and she promised to copy and disperse it it all....she had the stuff for 13 years and inquiries were always met with, I am working on it.......
Is There Ever Too Much of Luping's Basil?
OMG Jean, Why didn't her daughter ask anyone in the family if they wanted the stuff.....
Never mind, you don't have to answer. I have a sister who would do the same thing and not think a thing of it. And she is older then me! I be the baby ^_^
I'm glad I got to mom's pictures before the rest of them did. I have a ton of pictures that they will never have or care about. Including my Dad's old logging camp pictures.
Lynn, that picture sayd "Amish Built Cabins, Built on your site" and then it gave the number, so yes, we sure do have Amish around. That sign an the cabin are about 5 miles from where I live, so you can be sure they are around there somewhere too.
I understand that the Amish shun modern ways in their homes, phones, tv and radio, even electricity, so I always get a kick out of signs for Amish products that include phone numbers and web sites.
LOL Jean, well they are giving us a phone number and they put electricity in the house......hmmmmmmmm
Has to make you wonder how they learned to do that then, huh?
Our Dill is blooming white? LOL
Just kidding. He had to leave a few things go in the garden....LOL
You'd be hard pressed to sell houses without the basic ammenities, and these days, electricity is usually considered pretty basic....that and indoor plumbing...GRIN
They will probably have those "revolutionary new heaters with real Amish crafted surrounds"...grin
Yesterday evening I had two different sphinx moths getting in my face while trying to weed. Finally gave up and let them have the vincas...grin
Well I was lucky to get this ones picture...........Tried 5 times and only managed to get him or her twice, and then not that good of pictures either.
Shorly after that I was weeding my flower bed some and a hummingbird came buzzing and stayed there and watched me for a bit.... I think he was telling me to get out of his food patch.
Name that flower?
Looks like a coreopsis. My kids called them Coreypops.

OK Jean question? Is that known to be invasive?
They will reseed, but usually pretty close to the mother plant and they transplant easily. They make a great cut flower. I have three of four cultivars, one named mouse ears for its' tiny leaves and another, one of my favorites, called Jethro Tull, cuz the petals are tubular (fluted).
OK thanks, someone told me that it was a very invasive plant when I posted it on plant ID and that it would take over.
I told him that was strange, because this one has never moved from the spot it was planted in, and no more have ever popped up anywhere. And in the spring I even get worried as to if it is coming back or not.......
Then he said maybe it was due to our weather..............LOL
I have to down load a couple of pictures I took with my camera, and then I have another ID for you ^_^
Man, you'd think Dave was around....grin. Just don't get too exotic on me...grin
LOL Jean :p
I'll only get excited if you say I have a pot of gold under one of them, or they are worth a pot of gold!
Possibly a potentilla fruticosa.
http://www.hort.uconn.edu/plants/p/potfru/potfru1.html
I am too excited. I am getting some black bamboo....free. It is a running bamboo, not sure of the ID, but I have already figured out how to control it. Now I just have to find out its' name. I wanted to get some, but the only places that sell it are so very proud to have it....one place wanted $95 for a 2 gallon pot/ 2 shoots, and another wanted $65 for a 1 gallon pot. NOPE, not from me. GRIN
Gotta go pick up the kidlet...see ya later Kassy.
OK Jean, talk to you later.
Is that your plant Kassy?
Sounds like Phyllostachys nigra var. nigra. Keep it is a pot to keep it controlled.
Hows'it Folks!
Had a close call yesterday, known as a "Severe Insulin Reaction". Thought I was dropping dead, and had to go to the hospital.
Apparently I wasn't eating enough carbohydrates, and went low blood sugar, I tried to correct by eating some chocolate, multigrain pretzle, and milk, but the symptoms returned repeatedly, having hypoglycemic episodes that got worse each time.
My blood sugar level got so low that I had a dangerous reaction.
From now on I will need to get a substantial meal in me to start the day with.
Geez Dave....everyone knows a good breakfast is the best way to start the day.....Add some brown rice to your breakfast ....it is pretty good with milk and banana add a little coconut and heat it and you have a pretty good breakfast cereal.....seriously, glad you are okay. That can be scary stuff....gonna have to have us all fuss at you like we do Jim.....GRIN....hey, gypsies look out for each other..even the rebels. grin
Thanks Jean, from now on it will be breakfast first and plant ID and gardening after.
Now do I have to tell you how important a good meal is Dave. I learned all about good meals from the best, my mother..... She was a dietary directer of a nursing home.
I have hypoglycemic episodes at times too, and so does my DIL. They have never showen in blood tests that either of us have it, but I know that feeling all too well.
Protien Dave! Make sure you get some kind of protien in at your breakfast. I found that helps big time with me. And cinnamon works for my DIL. I guess it helps to keep the blood sugar up. I'll see if I can find anything on it for you.
Now, is what plant mine????
I have put in a few ^_^
Nope, that is not it.......the little plant I found in the grass near my flower bed is maybe 4 inches high and there is one about 3 inches away from it
yes Dave be careful with that! No dropping dead. Review your diabetic guidelines. May need to adjust for activity.
I'm tired, had another party today...it's HOT out there! I wear tons of sunscreen I'm way too tan for my liking. We had more rain tonight, the weeds are winning! lol
that owl IS cute....
Sorry I neglected to say hello to you ladies, and Jim. I'm over here muttering about Dave building stuff & not eating enough to make up for it....(or whatever it was you were doing whne you tore a muscle...)
I think your right Rachel...........
I couild make sure he learns the chat dictionary then too ^_^
Thanks Rachel, as I said, BF has way too much time on his hands. We have other birds in the yard too. Wood ones, and real ones.
Thanks Lynn, will tell my BF you liked the owl ^_^
Hi Rachel, Hi Lynnie. Dave REALLY doesn't want an invasion of the gypsies......a couple at a time could be formidable....the five gypsy women at once would just be scary....grin
Rachel, that is Caryota maxima Himalaya, Himalayan fishtail palm. It is over six feet tall in the pot and heavy as Southern air in August...grin. I am getting tired of hauling it around, so it is going into the ground this week.
Good on you for sunscreen Lynnie. I feel kinda sorry for these women who eschewed sunscreen for great tans, and now have skin like shoe leather...grin. I can burn in the winter in a half hour outside....summer, maybe fifteen minutes....and I hate the feel of sunscreen, but know I have to... my arm against my midrif looks like it belongs to a different person....grin
Dave, how is the shoulder? Good thing it is not you chocolate stirring arm....grin.
Ican should be back on Tuesday evening, I think she said her Dad was leaving Tuesday morning.
Cute little owl Kassy....guess he doesn't keep the snakes away, he looks too sweet. grin Ummmm a buttercup?
Jim was driving to Shreveport after church today so he could be at the hospital for a friend's surgery EARLY Monday morning. He and Joanne were gonna stay over at a hotel tonight to make it easier on them. He said he'd holler at us probably Tuesday.
Lynnie has been social butterflying this weekend....and she didn't melt...grin
How long have you had the palm Jean? They can get huge before they flower; up to almost 100 ft. tall.
I can just see it now, Jean with a 100 foot palm...............Jean, I want pictures when it gets that big :)
This variety gets to about 40 ft at maturity in the Himalayas. I have had this palm for about 25 years.
Maybe a diet low in phosphorus and higher in nitrogen could help to prevent it's maturity.
