Ain't it the truth? grin
Is There Ever Too Much of Luping's Basil?
Ok dumb question has anyone ever heard of something called Bears Breetches? I got some from springhill nurseries but it still hasn't bloomed...wondered if its a second year bloomer
Bears Breetches are very cool. I used to want one but never actually picked one up.
Here's the DG link http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/177/
Both my mom and dad are Pisces. My brother & I are both Libra's, and my sister is a Gemini. When my mom was pregnant with her they thought she was twins :) My mom always used to say to never have two kids in the same zodiac sign (my bro & I) not sure why that was.... ;) My son's a Leo, broke the mold.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acanthus_(plant) here's some general info
Time to go before super messenger crows....have a good night all sweet sleep....talk tomorrow. moon
I got new plants today! I'm so bad as if the free ones weren't enough! all succulents today though. been doing the happy dance about them...only paid 80 cents each for them. and a good size! But I can't wait to see the Bears Breetches bloom!
Wow 80 cents! Good find! There's no helping it. Especially if a plant's on sale. No will power in the plant world.
I never have will power when it comes to plants...my checkbook however often tells me NO!
Understand that one! I had a good friend I would go nursery hopping with and I used to bring my cc because we were always bad. Luckily we didn't make those trips too often. I'm trying to do the seed thing now but I need a better light set up for next year. Still I can't stop myself from cruising the nurseries, or the plant section at any store. I try to exercise control at the clearance section, 80 cents would have broken me though.
Whaaaaa???? THAT was 80 cents????? ooooOOOOooooo!!!!!
well it was marked down to a buck but my stepdad works at lowes and picked them up for me with his discount making them 80 cents...yeah for me...more to add to my jungle!
I'm green with envy :)
Ican I could send you some of the starts next spring when it warms up so they don't die in shipping if you want. By next spring I will have built my plant collection up enough to start sharing...well other than the ones siting outside that were given to me....most of my plants though I think everyone already has...I want to start getting some more exotic kinds...but again the checkbook says No right now
Yikes this is what I get for falling asleep early! Well I get up at 5, 5:30 so I guess 10 or 11 isn't that early.....
Trina..Redrock? I think you can be our lead singer. . I like Hotrock too. Sounds like you & I are the same size, I'm an Aquarius also. My husbands friends used to call me the Blond Tornado...but I've mellowed *grin*
Dave I nearly spit my coffee on the monitor when I looked at your plant wearing glasses & playing a harmonica...why are Jim's vegetables behaving and ours are getting wild??? It's supposed to stop raining today, I'll have to check on my creepy corn stalk by the light of day.
Kassy it was I who called your chicken legless, I stand corrected he is footless..I think we can make a good name for him Foghorn Footless....(I like Foghorn Legless better, are you sure you don't want those drumsticks?)
Alright how soon and how sick should I expect my puppy to get, she ate the runner off my Black Magic Elephant Ear
It's the oxalates crystals that you'll have to watch out for. Found this...
"Yes elephant ears are poisonous to your dog. It has oxalates which bind with calcium in the blood to form calcium oxalate crystals. After the dog has ate the ear again thoroughly rinse the mouth out with water. You may give your dog dairy products such as milk to provide a source of calcium. This is to prevent hypocalcaemia. Contact your vet immediately it can be fatal."
Also this website. If it doesn't pull up elephant ears when you open it just search. http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/poison-control/plants/elephant_ears.html
Hopefully she didn't eat enough to effect her.
I kinda liked the legless visual but it would be a bit interesting wouldn't it ;)
Trina ~ I'm pretty sure if you take pictures in spring you'll be flocked by plant lovers. Let me know when you're getting ready for that. By then I'm sure you'll have formed some attachments :) :) :)
and either I can't spell philadendron or its called something else because I can't find out anything about them in the plant files
Yours looks like Black Magic Colocasia. Taro family. Dave's probably an expert on Taro. Here's the DG link.

(oops, put the wrong link in)

ooh ooh I feel smart I already knew that one...just didn't know how it would affect my obnoxious chuahua!
I would say as long as she didn't chow down it should be o.k. but better safe than sorry. Sometimes vets aren't as helpful as a panicked parent would like though. My dog was throwing up blood one morning (lots of blood) and the vet wanted to watch him overnight. I can watch him overnight, I want to know why he's throwing up blood! Eeee! I mean if he was poisoned by something overnight could have been a very bad thing. Yes I'm over protective can ya tell?
Never did figure that one out, just put him on a bland food diet to help his tummy heal. I would try the bland food diet with your puppy "just in case" while her body processes those crystals.
Did you check out the aspca link? It shows symptoms to watch for.
Actually this website may be a bit more helpful, more info including first aid. :)

Possibly this guy? The Sprenger asparugus fern? Does it have mean little thorny things? I have a more innocent asparagus fern. Those tend to tick me off :) however odds are good your pets won't be chewing on them.

Colocasia esculenta var. antiquorum. Before the horticulture industry began calling it "Black Magic Taro", it was known here as Black Japanese Dasheen.
It is edible when cooked; the toxin in it is calcium oxalate. It will cause the dogs mouth to burn / itch; if much was ingested it will get an upset stomach. Repeatedly eating uncooked Taro will harm one's kidney's.
Put your poisonous plants up out of your dog's reach, or teach the critter to read and show him a poisonous plant book.

It has these little green berry loking things on it...are they seed pods?
Trina when my dog ate fly bait poison the vet had me give her peroxide. It will make them throw up. You have to do it fairly soon after they eat it though.
I've planted seeds from an asparagus fern before. Took them forever to come up but here is my baby. Plume asparagus (asparagus setaceus) I like how it looks like a miniature tree. The original fern was vining up and about. Very cool. I like the Sprengeri's, just not the way they feel, at least when they get big. My fight was with a large old one. Little bugger won. :)
Hmmmm, could it be a Dracaena. There's a variety with a chickies name (informative aren't I) that looks similar. Come on experts! Another nice looking plant btw :)
Dracaena Anita is what I was thinking of. Maybe the leaves are too short though.

Yes, Dracaena. Not sure which one though. Maybe Dracaena angustifolia.
I don't know it has woody "trunks" leaves come off like on a palm tree I can turn it around for a better picture if needed & another question aren't the Datura's all the same when it comes to growing them or do I really have to look the Double Yellow, Double Purple, and Double white seperately?
http://www.clisby.eclipse.co.uk/ this should help with care and propagation questions on daturas.
Many dracaenas have woody trunks, Trina.http://www.dracaena.com/
LOL, Teach them to read and give them a poisonous plant book...........I liked that one Dave. ;-)
Ican, trish, I think we need to send snow to Jean ;-)
I loved the plant with the glasses too Dave, and I tried to comment on it, but I think this site is out to get me! It wouldn't put it in!!!
Actually my reaction to it was.......ROTFL ^_^
Thanks moon...Like I said I can grow anything I just don't know there names...well I gave them names...not always appropriate names I call the asparagus fern "Spike" for obvious reasons!
