It is edible when cooked; the toxin in it is calcium oxalate. It will cause the dogs mouth to burn / itch; if much was ingested it will get an upset stomach. Repeatedly eating uncooked Taro will harm one's kidney's.

Put your poisonous plants up out of your dog's reach, or teach the critter to read and show him a poisonous plant book.
