Is There Ever Too Much of Luping's Basil?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Awesome! Smells wondeful. so another of the many many many plants I have to keep the puppy away from! One of my sons is teasing me now that I need to put a sign on the door that says "Don't worry about the dogs the plants are more dangerous"

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

THANK YOU THANK YOU...now off topic completely...I just had to share this wonderful pic someone sent to me

Plants can be scary!

Last night I caught this Yam, Dioscorea bulbifera, trying to get up and walk away. I wonder where it was planning to go?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Scary? No 5 teenagers in one house is scary...I ain't afeared of no plants! LOLGive me the plants send the kids somewhere else...they are way more expensive than my gardening!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Dave, think the cpu virus might be causing a bit of hallucination....did the yam say goodbye? grin

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

ok here's another dumb one from the newbie...what is this on my Datura? This was a gift from my mom & I've never had one before....about the only thing I know about them is that they are poisonous

Thumbnail by trinawitch
Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Those are seed pods. Wait til they turn brown before you remove them and you will have all the daturas you want...you could even offer them up for trade if you so desire.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

heck I wish i had known that earlier...I threw a whole bunch of these away....like I said never had any before and my mom bought this mixed bag collection of daturas and burgmansias...she decided she didn't like them and sent them all to me....now do the burgmansias do that to? cause I definately don't want my grandmas puppy to get a hold of any of them

Delhi, LA

Well, I'm getting better. I had two of them tagged except for the technical names. I've never seen a plant like the last one. Is it inside or outside? Does it flower?

Keaau, HI

I tried to load a photo of the renegade Yam twice now. The 2nd time nothing appeared at all?

Hope this works.

It said "double yellow devils trumpet" its inside now cause I'm pretty sure it wont survive a winter outside in Illinois!

Delhi, LA

How far are you from the Dayton area? Got a daughter that lives at Enon about fifteen minutes from Dayton.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

As in Dayton Ohio? I have no idea But if you mean Enion IL about 40 minutes

Delhi, LA

I'm sorry, I was looking at where you were and thought Ohio for some reason. Guess I was thinking about my girl. Don't get to see her but at Christmas and sometime in the summer if we can get up there. It is such a long drive for two old folks to make.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Jim Trina is about an hour south of me

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Its ok my oldest is at AIT in Fort Jackson SC I miss him terribly but I can't make the drive to see him because of a spinal chord injury.

Keaau, HI

Sounds like you need to call your daughter, Jim!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Definately call your daughter! Metrosideros do roses go dormant in the winter there in Hawaii?

Uh oh we have another talking plant on our hands. Corn, yams, seems to be a theme here.
Has anyone seen the Happening LOL!

You both need frequent flier miles :) I say that but I don't have them myself. Being away from kids is hard.

My mom was from Peoria Illinois :) Dad was from Frontenac Kansas, still have family there.

Thanks Dave. Bottle palms are cool, works for me! Love the orange, beautiful plant. The person I got it from said it may have a virus that is causing it to spot. Maybe, or it needs a new pot & new soil possibly? Either way I'm glad to have it.

House plants, pictures, share! Love to see what other people have! That way you can drool, it's almost like you have more. And wow 5 teenagers would absolutely be a handful. Man I can't even imagine LOL!

Oh, you noticed the dog toy bin (sheepish grin) ya my kids are spoiled. All three of them (human, cat, dog) I spoil what can I say. One of my favorite sayings is "Life is short, someone should spoil you."
I keep all the toys and put the stuffing back in with a new squeaker and sew'em up. My dog rips out the squeaker in about 5 seconds then all the stuffing and we start over again. The cat plays with arms & legs & broken squeakers from the dog toys. I picked up cat toys for him but apparently they aren't as entertaining. Sometimes I stuff catnip in the legs :)

I would love to catalog all my houseplants with photos and complete descriptions, but most I don't know what they are and I have a ton of them....as for my oldest boy he comes home in october for 30 days then they are shipping him to afghanistan....I wish I could change that but I can't.

Generic plant pictures work for me :)

Sorry to hear about your son. Definitely wish we could change that. Maybe if we do a gypsy dance it will work? No Afghanistan, no.... Let's set a time & decide on a dance. Hey who knows.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I didn't argue with him when he signed up...long tradition of military service in my family...he's a very smart kid. I figured he'd pick an MOS where he could go to college and expand on that and get a good job after his time was up.....but NOOOOOOO...he had to go sign up to be a tank mechanic...practicaly gauranteeing he was getting sent over there

Keaau, HI

Roses don't go dormant here, but with all the rain, there are only a few that won't rot, such as: Rosa chinensis & Rosa x odorata.

Below is Rosa chinensis 'Viridiflora', the Green Rose.

Roses do better at higher drier evlevations such as Volcano and Kamuela on this Island.

I would definitely repot the Bottle Palm. As it is fibrous rooted, it would be better to concentrate on a wider pot rather than taller.

Thumbnail by Metrosideros

A tank mechanic. Is that relatively safe? I suppose not if you have to go out and fix it in the field. Hopefully he is the shop mechanic and stays safe.

Thanks Dave! That's good to know. I will start hunting for a wider pot. Any soil recommendations? The only palm I've had before is a Bamboo Palm.

My oldest grandson is in Marine Boot Camp. Boy has a mind that is just short of genius but this is all he has ever wanted to do. Can you believe he loves Boot Camp. He signed up for artillery. Was originally in aircraft maintenance. For some reason known only to him he changed it. Probably headed over there after artellery school.

Well, hmmmm, in one sense you can say he has drive and determination and is going after what he wants. That's a fabulous thing. On the other hand, artillery. I wish we could just get out of there.

Keaau, HI

Hey Jim would that be 62 Romeo, Air Defense Artillery, Ft. Bliss, Texas?

For the Bottle Palm, use a soil based potting medium with some added manure, peat, and dolomite.

(Zone 5b)

Yikes my head is spinning trying to catch up...this is what I get for going straight to bed last night....I'd do better talking to the creepy corn stalk *grin*
Dave i thought you were crazy saying that yam was trying to get up & walk off till you showed the picture, then I thought 'eek! run for your life!' That's almost as creepy as my Malakai corn. Hey maybe I can get that corn to grow till Halloween & then use it as a prop.
Trina I wish we could do a field trip to your porch & see all those plants....wow! And I hope your friend is ok.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Trina, Jim, not much can be done to change a youngun's mind when they get set on something, but maybe we can wrap them in a blanket of Gypsy care and concern to help keep them safe...and add their names to the prayer list, also.

Lynnie, now I am worried, the corn is slowly clouding your mind....you want to keep it.....BIGGRIN...just teasing.

Dave I worried that the blood sugar was taking a nose dive, but the picture set that straight....maybe your yam is trying to get to Lynnie's cornstalk.....beware, the alien veggies are trying to band together and neither of them can play a kazoo.lol

Ican, Chester Cheese Dog and Benny Christopher Beagle won't have anything to do with toys....they want human squeaky toys....they grab a body part and I squeak...grin, but Sophie Spoon Beagle latched on to a small white vinyl squeaky ball when she was a puppy and has had to have one ever since...she keeps it for 2 or 3 months, running around with it in her mouth, squeaking through her nose, and then, one day with no warning, rips out the squeaker and shreds the ball.....the big tragedy is that we can no longer find this type of ball and she is in squeaky withdrawal. We have tried other squeak-toys, but she just kills them on the first day and walks away. She is taking her grief out at the food dish...grin

Ican, on the grape ivy,
I dunno I just water it! LOL
I think I have transplanted it 3 times due to size, but other then the new dirt when it gets transplasted, I just water it.....And it gets one big container of water once a week...
It seems to love it. Hmmmmmm, maybe it likes our water.

Ican, I have a pin that says......"All my children have paws". ^_^

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Dave, I am going to send you 2 sites that my son suggests for your computer.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Lynn, keep the corn, it actually may not be corn. Have you seen any ears form on it? BF reminded me that we had something like that come up in his garden too, and we left them grow, but it was not corn. The top came out different then corn does.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Welcome, trina and nice to meet you. ^_^

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

thanks Kassy. god to be here

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Lynn, I said to keep that corn, because you may actually have Sorghum.
That's what we had sprouting up in the garden one year. We thought corn too, that the chipmunks planted, until the seeds started bushing out on top of it.
Our chickens love us...........They get all kinds of seeds!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

The birds would love the sorghum also, but sorghum isn't nearly as spooky as the corn....grin

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I know, but we don't want to scare Lynn too much.......wait until she sees the pictures of the corn field I can get ^_^

(Zone 5b)

if it looks like corn it's spooky! although I never heard of a movie called Children of the Sorghum....maybe we could make one, featuring Kassy's legless chicken.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

LOL...ROTFL....GRIN. Obviously i like that idea....the sorghum field keeper could be called Molasses and could use Kassy's chicken as a messenger.....OOOEEEEOOOO....weird spooky music...
