Sorry to hear the report, Robin. Good comeback though about the housework comment.
What have you ordered for spring 2009 part 4
GROOOAAAAAN.
I have a huge order from Blueston comming in May,completely forgot about the peanuts.
all I know is the girl scout cookies I ordered better be safe!
Allison, those steel oats are great. I have them a lot. I mix in ground flax seed. I flavor sometimes with molasses, sometimes with pure maple syrup, sometimes with Stevia.
Willie, I'm totally jealous! I have the opposite problem that you have. Never been skinny and probably never will be, though in my 20's I wasn't too heavy. I take after my mother's side, and she and her brother's take after their father's side. My Dad was always skinny, but has put on some weight this past winter with lack of exercise and lots of extra eating (just like our dogs).
Well, bright and early tomorrow morning I'll be headed for Texas to visit my sister for 10 days. I can't wait! I'm taking Dad with me, and my sister Dawn is also meeting us and staying for about 5 days. I may not be getting on DG as much while I'm gone. Just depends on how tired I am. Looking forward to getting some nice weather for a change.
Karen
Have fun ...... and ........
Picures, Karen ..... Lots of pictures!!!
^_^
Have a great visit, Karen.
I'll definitely be taking lots and lots of pictures!!!!
Karen
Great Karen. We will try & melt the snow while you're gone.
I will be returning the day before we turn our clocks ahead. Woo hoo! Getting dark later!
Karen
Have fun, Karen!
Safe trip, Karen---are the Texas bluebonnets in bloom at this time?
Karen, Daffs are up in Texas, lucky you. Have a great trip visiting with your family.
I am home, DH is in Vt skiing, so guess what I am doing? Latest order. I will be posting another later today. Me bad. At least I can eat the huckleberries. Patti
Viburnum lantana 'Variegatum'
Viburnum plicatum f. tom. 'Weeping Magic'
Acer palmatum 'Goshiki Kotohime'
Acer 'Johin' - Red Full-Moon Maple
Iris 'Sweets of May' - Siberian Iris
Gaylussacia baccata - Black Huckleberry
Patti, that cracked me up. Yay!, on the latest order.
shopping at fairweather are we patti?
for a moment i thought you received that email from avant with the free mystery plant offer
nice list
Wha, I thought the color of those Siberian iris would look good with the spring leaf color in my soon to dug and planted JMaple bed. I will also be planting it with some Helleborus, Hosta, Hakonechloa, Heuchera and bulbs and what ever else I see in other peoples gardens like Boojum's, Wha's and Victor's etc that look good with Japanese Maples. I am not shy to steal a good pairing. I don't want a Japanese garden. I can't get into conifers. Nope, can't do it. Patti
love this Jmaple site http://www.fujiyamagarden.com/SlideshowAut.html
and this one is great. Drooling. http://www.esveld.nl/collecties/collenacer.htm
Very nice list, Patti. Where was it from? I've seen the second site. The first looks nice.
i will have to bookmark both those sites! I am not bashful about borrowing idea's either. hey i noticed on that first link to fujiyama that they had conifers mixed with the jm's - they look good don't they!!
i also liked the inaba shidare with the moss covered stone under it - i have a nice moss covered large stone that i saved from the wall for a better use. i may have found it's new home - thanks!!

Aha! Looking forward to pics of Johin.
it looks nice - fairweather did not have a pic - i found it here

Very nice. Might get pretty big.
yeah says 30 ft. - it is new though and anything can be kept trimmed
I think it said A. japonicum typically reaches 30 feet. Will probably be less but still big.
Not so big, I hope. But everything on Nantucket stays smaller. Wha is such the detective. That was a modest Fairweather order. Patti

Says fast growing, but only six feet in ten years??
it was a slow day and i figured i could track where your order went quickly - figured it out in about 3 minutes :) and then added to the secret list - shhhh
Have a Wonderful Holiday in Texas Cousin Nut. There are many beautiful spring bulbous things flowering there now. Be sure to sniff the hyacinths ^_^
Wha, a better game for today would be, " What did bbrookrd order from Lazy s's Yesterday? Some choice things, imho. But who knows, as this is my first order with them. Anyone use them? Shipping bites. Nice list and they give wonderful information.
Hint. In the shrub department I ordered a few Hamamelis, a Sambucus, a Buddleja, a Vib, a Clethra, a Corylopsis, and a Vitex. I adore vitex. Here is a photo of one on Aug 11 of last year in my most messy bed, but this year will be different! Vitex leaf out late, but they bloom at a time that I need things. And then I found some perennials that I had to have, mostly white or blues and one unusual yellow allium. I had been looking at there stuff for months.
Now do I dare go to work on Forest Farm order today? The rational: I found my long lost glasses that I was about to replace plus in the same pocket some "pin money" I had put aside for Xmas gifts that I didn't spend. I hadn't worn that Jacket since early Dec. It was in the pile of stuff I was about to take to the recycle. And to diminish the my guilt more, my DH told me he bought new skis yesterday. He needed them, as the old ones were almost antiques. I shouldn't buy any more plants this year, but then again I stayed home this week and have been eating leftovers and not one glass of wine! Patti
Wow--that garden looks so professional! Liked the black huckleberry, but not sure of its hardiness here.
i am not THAT good of a detective - you will like the quality of plants you recieve from lazy s&s - husband and wife team own this place - now you have me looking into Vitex
let's see
Witch Hazel - Aronold promise and Diane
Sambucus - black lace
Buddelia - orange ball tree
vib - mary milton
clethra - ruby spice or sixteen candles
corylopsis - Corylopsis spicata Spike Winterhazel
Vitex - Vitex agnus-castus 'Abbeville Blue' Chaste Tree
so i take it back on the vitex i have the one listed above planted last fall from sooner.
How did i do?
and i would think twice about FF - check other sources freight is about 50% of the plant cost - they do have quality stuff and a lot of - it they are the only source that a different situation.
Wha, you gave it a good try, but you got skunked! But only because I have many that you picked already. I don't have Witch Hazel 'Arnold Promise' or 'Diane' or the Corlopsis spicata or Clethra '16 candles'. My C.'Ruby Spice' has not done much yet. I don't think Clethra are visually anything, but a filler plant, though I adore the evening scent of them in Aug. The Vib that I ordered has the great scent of V. carlesii but it is suppose to be a bigger shrub with fuzzy leaves, but with the same great red late fall color. ( here is V. carlesii on Nov. 8th last fall) Viburnum x carlcephalum is a hybrid of V. carlesii and V. macrocephalum var. keteleeri and comes highly recommended by Todd Boland on DG who is always a wealth of information. And then there is VibValley who I also follow. Patti
(1) Corylopsis pauciflora $9.99
(1) Hamamelis x intermedia 'Jelena' $19.99
(1) Hamamelis vernalis 'Christmas Cheer' $19.99
(1) Hamamelis x intermedia 'Glowing Embers' $19.99
(1) Viburnum x carlcephalum $10.99
(1) Vitex negundo var. cannabifolia $10.99
(1) Sambucus nigra 'Variegata' $9.99
(1) Clethra alnifolia 'Vanilla Spice' PPAF $11.99
(1) Buddleia x 'Silver Anniversary' PP#17,332 $9.99
I am going to check out Greer too. I only need a few things from FF and will be buying tubes if anything at this point. Patti
Beautiful Patti
too bad - and i almost picked glowing embers too. oh well looks like another nice order.
i'll be interested in hearing how the vib compares to the vib from fairweather.
another addition to the list
Hi Patti Please find my library card, thanks Lucy
Patti all I can say is "wow"
IrisMa, nope, not in my pocket. Go backwards in your mind. I once left mine in a book that I returned.
Flowerjen, thanks, we have time now that mostly retired. We planted that V. carlesii back in the early 80's and it was not in a bed for many years. I encroached upon it. I am about to do it again from the backside.
Thanks Ge1836, That is one shrub that does it's "thing" almost unaided. I just have to remember not to prune it except immediately after it blooms. I mistakenly cut it one fall late and had no blooms in the spring. Too dumb. I like it best just before it opens up when it has that pinkish color. The rest of the summer it is just a green blob, but a good back drop. The dogs like to sleep under it.
Wha, They all sounded wonderful I ordered 'glowing embers' because it is suppose to have "wide-spreading habit". I think Greer has one that I would like to plant in my JMaple bed
Hamamelis vernalis ‘Lombard’s Weeping’ — Kinky flowers are composed of petals, orange-red at the base, becoming more orange at the tip, encircled by a red calyx. These blooms are often in competition with remaining beautiful blue-green foliage. A small shrubby tree that grows 5-6' tall with many branches cascading to the ground. Blooms in early January-February. 2-3' $29.95
Victory probably has that kinky one already. Patti
patti that one does sound nice - beautiful yard photo's
Drooool Patti what are those luvly, luvly red tulips in the lower left pic?
