2ND VICTORIAN SANTA WORKSHOP..TODAY IS THE DAY!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

My beard is down to the floor! Do I trim it now?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have mine just about done, I think I need more hair for the beard. I was going to make a santa bag, but I think I like the sled by his side better, but can always have it for an option!

I love all the Santa's pictures, They are all so creative, and it just shows we like the same thing, but all have our difference's!
Thanks Betty, for hosting this wonderful workshop! Love ya bunches.
So what is the next project? LOL

Yes Audrey now is the time you decided how long you want it, don't go too short...if you look above you'll see on one of my last posts how I lifted the beard and added another bottom layer...see it?

Hood time...

still left are finishing touches to hair but we'll do that in a bit..

You could just centre the hood and it would be fine done in that fashion

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

I prefer making it a little more as a cape
So I fold just slightly..
So that it doesn't keep unfolding I secure under the folded layer with a few dots of hot glue...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

So that the hood part in the front doesn't keep falling I lift the hood just slightly and glue the top of santa's head and the styro ball then press the velvet into it to secure it...you don't need a whole lot just enough to keep it in position

I will now take a cord ... you can use anything you have from ribbon to cording to well just anything..

Victoria Harbour, ON

At this point I noticed that there were hairs stopping me from seeing his mouth so will take my scissors and cut them away...now that the hood is secure and tied I'll start to work on the hair...you can see where you have definate sections...we'll work them similar to how you worked the braid before ,.....take your time...work one into another until you cannot see the divisions..

Also I didn't especially like the straight across beard so I cut it just slightly making it barely shorter on the side than the middle...

Metro Santa, huh? As in Metropolitan ..... Metro Sexual ....... not sure where his name came from but he is gorgeous and very tres` chic. Jaye, I never would have thought to use that fabric for a santa but it made a beautiful robe. Will you be doing others? Can't wait to see what your creative mind comes up with next.

Phyllis, love the long vest over his robe. Gosh - they are all so pretty. Every one is so different.

Not convenient to run from dining room table to computer so I've been working away in there trying to rely on memory. BIG MISTAKE! Have done several things incorrectly but worked it out. Mine is definitely the 'starter' model. lol! Have learned a lot from this first project and will be able to apply that knowlege to the next ones. My fabric is a bit too heavy which makes it difficult to work with around the sleeve gatherings, etc. Didn't have the right kind of fabric for contrasting mittens - used the same fabric as the robe - not happy with that at all. Never had time to find trim so he doesn't have the fur trim as planned. Phyllis, if you don't mind me using your idea, I think a fur vest over his robe might be in order later. Didn't glue the hair on properly but hey, a little more glue here and a little more hair there .... it all works out. Ok, back to work. Still need to hem up the hood. Any applesauce cake left? I'm starving!

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

LK, you make us all proud! Very handsome Santa you have there. The bags filled with goodies are always fun.

Glad I got a peek at the hood before going back to work on mine. Maybe saved me a few less errors.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Oh girls use any idea you like I have no problem with that at all to me that is part of the reason for posting to share ideas and help anyone that wonders but isn't' sure what to do or use.

the "fur" around the hands and hood are a boa I whip stitched in place ..but ya gotta watch for the fluffies wrapping on the thread as you stitch LOL

Metro Santa certainly is overly confident without much bling bling!!
Here he is, cape draping over and with birds in each hand. Mythic and woodsy.. to remind the children... believe in your dreams...

Thanks Trisha, I think your Santa's reminiscent of the Tzars.. Then Debra, yours will be just as awesome.

Betty, you're an awesome teacher, friend.. hostess :D

Boy these posts are moving quickly, just found it up above about 10 or 12..oh well, doesn't hurt to have the info again...

Almost ready to decorate..

Must tell you all I have to stay within guidelines I set for myself re decorating..

I provide the entire kit which also includes rental of the facility and lunch so I cannot afford to get creative..will on my own though, so very structured, all using same decorating pieces then if my classes decide the embellish later it's at their cost...

Makes sense doesn't it..

One year I made a project, put my heart into it, they all wanted and expected same as the prototype..went broke..so I did learn..

Victoria Harbour, ON

OHHH girls, are you keeping them or will they become treasures and Christmas gifts for family and/or friends..do tell?

Must tell you when it comes to my very own, but then usually I get so fed up seeing the same lol painting / robes/decorations etc. that I don't want one...

Always the way...

Victoria Harbour, ON

I so wish I had sparklies to share with you today...should have thought about it earlier when I was doing kits...

Will show you what I do then maybe you also can add some..

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Awesome, Jaye!

Betty, you're a good craft 'mom'. Teach us the basics, then allow us to spread our wings.

Ok, back to my work table. Will be back later!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

This one's going to my best friend in Ala.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I do have some silver sparkles to add to Metro Santa, but I will refrain from doing so, at this point, Betty. It's so hard to edit oneself :D
Maybe after a few hours....
Shall be keeping this for myself..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Funny...back to charging batteries..

Have you seen the sparkle dust they use in candle making..so miniature only takes a few speckles..love putting just a tad in the beard, and , on his cape, makes such a difference..

Oh well, another 10 minutes and rechargeable batteries should be charged just enough for a few more photo's..can't believe I didn't remember to re-charge them this morning..

OHOH big time. so funny, when decorating this morning I took the beautiful snowman pail I got in the swap, thought omg why not take a package of styrofoam balls for now and put them into the pail..looks like snowballs right..well, Sailor who is a ball fanatic just found them...all over the floor, one in her mouth (and me without a camera) lol wanting to play ball...

Snowing again outside..and unless something major comes up I'M not going to get out of these jammies...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy, where are you..bet she and Judy got together this morning rather than coming to my house...hmmmm

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

If I can find a clean place to take a pic, I'll send one!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Still in my jammies here... lint and fur all over..
Thank you so much for doing this Betty. This is my very first Santa in my whole life!!!! You never know how grateful I am.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Trisha, could have sent you more...almost caught up..after Friday I'm done with all the workshops..have a 2nd one that I've about 10 faces, could ship you some of them..looks the same size as this one when worked up..

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Would love to have some more faces Betty, they do not need to be painted as I can do that.....just let me know what to send to cover the faces and the postage. I just listed family members I would like to make a Santa for.......I don't think I can do that many before Christmas and get any of my other projects completed. May have to make some of them as Birthday or Anniversary Gifts throughout the upcoming year....

I too am considering a Mrs. Claus......will have to check out the molds or resort to Polymer as a last resort....

Adding to the Chorus of "Thank You Betty" for this wonderful project! I have wanted a Victorian Santa for many years but could never afford the really nice ones....and just didn't care for the reduced Quality of the ones I could afford.....Now we all have really wonderful ones that we won't see in every other house on the block!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good job, Audrey! The gold edging really sets it off. How did you do the sleeves? I really like that. Pretty wreath, too. Did you gather the pine cones?
