poor Alex, brought me a ladder that reaches my roof..must do something later, so he could see I was in a hurry, bet June told him to bring it right/right way lol so he'll pick it up tomorrow giving me some time to do what needs done..

back to the sleeve...

Now you will pull the sleeve back so you can see the inside where the velvet hand part is..you glue all around so if your gathering string ever breaks the glue will hold it...

Depending on the material you use you may want to put just a tad of batting, not much or he'll be much tooo fat, no more than this..i

here's where you glue

Victoria Harbour, ON

Told you Audrey, use a knife or knitting needle or something to push into the glue...or yep...you'll be ouching all morning

now that I've glued all around the wrist edge I can pull the top of the sleeve up, but before I tie depending on the material you use you may want to put just a tad of batting, not much or he'll be much tooo fat, no more than this..

Just sent you that didn't I...that's ok..some might need to be reminded...

I also wanted to mention I push the gathered edge a bit - watch for seepage and if there is some don't worry about it fornow...I press tighly so the glue will adhere to the material

Now I gather tightly the upper sleeve arm area, tight as can be, wrap my thread around the nail that you've attached!

Both arms done and secured to nail, I take a substantial amount of glue and glue to dowel, glue on thread and then just push in with fingers again

THIS CAN BURN, WATCH YOUR FINGERS

Wouldn't you know, Greg just called to do the chore I was going to do with the ladder..how much do you want to bet June called him to say what I was going to do might be dangerous for a little old lady..lol..but that's ok..only take a sec of his time..I might have to leave for 3 or 4 minutes that's all...

Nobody talking????

Victoria Harbour, ON

Must be because you are concentrating or have deserted me???? lol

Now it's time to slip the dress over the dowel, remember material seam at the back, now if you've done it in the front, lol, take it from me, you just pull the arms going toward the opposite direction and we're back where we should have been...

unravelling braids...

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

OK, I put the dress on first, but I'm going to leave it, it looks OK. Now on to the head. Just glue onto the flat part of the ball, right?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, put the top of the santa head even to the styro ball top after you've taken a little slice off..I found that if I put the glue on the ball then attach the head some of the styro would burn, so I put the glue on the upper back of the santa face and glue to the ball just seconds after

photo in one sec

slice a piece off

glue on back of santa face - upper area only where the ball will attach to the face

going back to the dress...gather the back of the dress tightly

Good to have long nails when unravelling braids....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now here is where you COULD MAKE A MISTAKE...

rend to want to wrap right up at the top of the dowel, if your dress is long enough to drape over the wood support then ok, other than that, secure your thread and leave the back slightly drapping until it covers the wood...even though at the neck it might be lower, no problem, hood will cover it...put glue to secure

yes it does Jaye but if you gently pull down while holding it to take a bit of the wave out of the piece it works as well...

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm having a problem unravelling the braid right! I've put on his hair, are we supposed to put this on before we attach the head to the body?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Doesn't show, but the above post shows right underneath where you gathered it's filled with glue then pushed into the dowel to harden and support the gown..

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh

Victoria Harbour, ON

No, we put on the head first Audrey, just a sec. almost there, then we'll add the hair and it's put on in 3 long sections but putting the top toupe (lol) on first..once sec..have your coffee...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now it's time to gather the front of the dress, see how nicely the sleeves fit in and it almost looks as though it were 1 piece???

my santa is still bald

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, at this point he is...

Do you all have your gown done to this point, do you all have the head glued???

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

yep

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

OK! Waiting patientle, having a cup of cocoa!

Victoria Harbour, ON

charging my camera for a few minutes...wouldn't you think I'd have thought of that..oh well going back to old photo's, my santa instruction are now in blue..lol

Time to put his head onto the nail..don't push to hard and break the styrofoam...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

does your braid so far look like this, this wide? you should have a 2nd one right and the top piece done...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Got it!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh my, I don't have my hair done yet, but I do have the top part on. Can I cut the braids shorter in order to have enough to do two Santas?

Victoria Harbour, ON

At this point I decided that I didn't want to take chances of dropping globs of glue on my nice material soooo I put a garbage bag under santa's chin, you can use a t-towel or paper towel...better be safe then sorry right?

best you wait a minute my lady, time will come...lol

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Here's my Metro Santa :D.. hairless..

Thumbnail by heavenscape
Victoria Harbour, ON

I now attached his toupe (for better description I know not)
leaving a bit of the hair more forward as to be able to glue with dabs of hot glue to the hair areas that I painted...we don't want to see my painting (grey area) we want nice hair...

Jaye, different and will be gorgeous when finished...metro santa...one thing about you guys, you are all creative..love it..

Victoria Harbour, ON

I took the prettiest of the 2 braids and glued it just under themouth and of course to the sides..it will not entirely cover the sides, that comes next....again, you want to take a little time to do so as to make it look natural not just glued and plopped there...am I making sense..

TAKE NOTE:

this one is not right under the mouth part, just wanted to show you that this piece is centered, must see if my camera batteries can take one more photo?

But you get where I want the beard right....
