Podster,
Dianthus "Articfire" is a beautiful plant and so easy to grow from seed. PE is actually Prince Edward Island, Canada.
Love your name scoolie
Michelle
Where did you get that username?
Articfire, Pretty name, pretty flower too. I drew a blank on PE, sorry. pod
I borrowed my username from my dog.
This thread has been alot of fun! So many of us really like our dogs! BTW, luvsgrtdanes, when I worked as a vet tech, one of our clients came in to buy several baby bottles. Her dane had 18 puppies!! One was still born, she accidently killed one, but that still left 16 pups, and not quite enough chi-chi's on mom to keep them all fed enough. They were so cute! Mom can sit on the couch w/ her front legs on the floor!! Big dogs!!
We have a friend who adopted a young adult female dane. She (Bonnie) is a lovely dog, so graceful for her size. We gather for Thanksgiving dinner there and Bonnie sits with her chin on the table just watching.
I wanted something easily remembered....like everyone else......
What better name than your own, only siad backwards...

Mine is my grandma name - oldest grandchild (will be 19 in September!) - couldn't say Grandma, eventually kept saying Murmur. And it stuck. When her sister was born, she had trouble saying Murmur, and for a time called me Mimi. When my grandson came along, he came up with MooMoo. Then a stepson with a tiny speech issue came up with MuhMuh. Eventually they all came to call me Murmur, as do their friends, and even some of my daughters' friends. So for me, a logical choice.
Nivlac, when I was a kid, my friends and I spelled our names backwards for 'code' names - mine was elorac. I hadn't thought of that in a long time.
I guess I'm joining the majority -- DOGS. Lily is a puppy I rescued from a busy street several years ago, and Brigid is my pekingese who was rescued from a puppy mill in (of all places) Vidor, Texas. I said I'd foster her until they found her a home because I NEVER wanted a pekingese. I signed the adoption papers six days later and now she is The Queen of All She Surveys. I'm just the Royal Gardener. And wouldn't have it any other way. The rest of the world calls me Ann.
What a neat thread. I love all the great names. Mine is obvious and boring....
Billyporter - I not only know who Mick Ronson is, I actually have his solo album.
I'm almost ashamed to add mine! "L" is for Linda, "W" for my maiden name, Westfall, and Halliday is my last name. Maybe I should've used my old screen name, DreamFaery. That's much more creative. Or I could have gone with the rest of the dog-lovers and used my furbabies names, but CairoPeteyBlackie would sound kind of dumb! LOL
Linda
Oooh DreamFaery - I really like that.
Mine is just my name too, but this way I don't have to use two names - the one that shows, and the one I sign...
CJ
DawninTx!!!
You're apparently the only Mick Ronsoner out there! Husband's brother had the albums. They got stolen. I found the CD"s in a Collectors Music catalogue. I ordered ''Play Don't Worry'' and ''Slaughter on 10th Avenue.''
Mine is a shortened version (yes - it has actually been longer) of Lesfleursdefouquet. This was the name of my former antique booth business because I liked items with flowers on them like tole trays, etc. My last name is Fuqua which is French and originally spelled Fouquet. "The Flowers of Fuqua" I also use it for my ebay id. Thought it was very appropriate for a gardening site, but had to shorten it to fit the DG character limits. And that's my story!
Debra
" Niere" (pronounced "nee-air-ay"--and actually the "r" is slightly rolled but who cares) is the "Elvish" form of my real life first name--Melissa. There's a place online where you can look up your Elvish name--it's at http://www.elvish.org/elm/names.html if anyone is interested.
I'm a huge Tolkien fan (and was so long before the movies--but I loved the movies too!). :D
Great site thanks for sharing. I used to watch over and over andover the movies of long ago in cartoon land, if you know wht I mean. and read the original books... Got to love them.
calvin
Great gardening friend, she's young to be getting grey. I am a lot older and working hard on the grey!
Ss, she looks like a sweetheart.
My parents have a little Boston Terrier. Her name is Button. ;) She is about the same age as your BT. Jenny sure is a cutie. They are such cute devoted pets.
Lin
Podster, I believe you have an Australian Cattle Dog
(known as a Heeler, or a Blue Heeler - depending
on color.)
They are called Heelers because they nip at the heels
of cattle in order to move them, sometimes of people
too. Great dogs. I have a Blue Heeler. His name
is Angus. They can be shy with people, but are
extremely fierce and protective of family and property.
They can have 2 different colored eyes, and either
a long tail (like a shepherd) or a nubby tail.
Mahnot, we have about decided the same thing about Pod except his eyes both a warm brown and the stubby tail. Not agressive, incredibly shy but had a man say, that dog will bite faster than the "barking Lab" would. Everyone focuses on the barker. The only time Pod barks is a booger bark. It sounds like a "ready or not, here I come" bark. Unfortunately, we have nothing to herd (the cats aren't too accomodating) and he is still looking for his mission in life...
I love all the things people use for their names!
Mine comes from a combination of 2 things: when I was younger, my family had this habit of adopting whatever animals that came our way & needed it. At the peak, I believe we had 7 dogs, 9 cats, 3 horses, a rabbit, a gerbil and some fish, and, periodically, some wild animals with minor injures that we'd heal (or babies that we'd raise) & release. So, since we had all this on just over an acre (we boarded the horses), I thought of it as a backyard zoo.
These days, I have fewer animals, but more chaos - so it FEELS like a zoo ;-) And, as my kids get older, we'll probably start collecting our own selection of strays and needy animals again...
I have quite a collection of pets too, I thought of using one of my 'kids' names, but couldn't decide. Thank-you all for sharing, it's fun reading what your names mean.
Sticking with the dogs, Liebran is our kennel name. We show the dogs, so all their registered names have "Liebran" in. Otherwise, I am Karen.
Nivlac ~ I loved your name when I first saw it. This was a game played with the kids when young. Sej, Ekim and Narf. One of them had, in later years, used that for a password. Not easy to remember for that one. Couldn't remember it and called. The person on the other end started laughing about it before it was figured out. Great name games. pod
Well, my name came about the usual ole' boring way. Not nearly as interesting as the rest of you folks. K for Kristi and Nolan for my last name. How's that for creativity! B.b.b.b.b.b.b.b.boring.
My family loves milk...lol...
Dad-Big Moo
me-Moodene
daughter-Mooette.. her hubby doesn't like white milk too much so he is a Chocomoo-he loves chocolate milk..lol
son-Little Moo
grandson-Baby moo-15 months old..until he gets better name when gets older..lol..
That is certainly original!
Yes, it is. So, instead of the standard "mema" or "mammaw" are you "moomoo"? I love it!
Me too!
Okay...mine is boring, but I have a reason. I guess it was a "protest" against having to learn 2 names for everyone. I notice that eventually almost everyone signs his real first name, so the "confidentiality" goes out the door.
I'm a teacher, and having to learn over 150 names every August when school starts makes me want to make it easy for everyone... But...I do love this thread, and it's interesting to see that things we THOUGHT...are not so at all...
I thought "billyporter" was a guy;
...thought "croclover" loved crocus flowers!
as most...thought "fly_girl" was a FA or pilot!
...had skipped hurridly over "lovesgrtdns" and thought it was short for "loves gardens"!!
Thanks for the fun thread!!
Connie
Gardening is a way of life for me, as I am sure it is for so many here. I love strolling through my gardens seeing what surprises await me, and someday hope to get my hands dirty in the ultimate garden of Eden....hence edenawaitsme. Make sense or do I just sound crazy, lol.
I tried about 10 names, and all were taken. Finally I typed Bubbles, because that's going to be my "granny" name. Nope! That was taken also. Out of boredom, I added Big to Bubbles...and wouldn't you know it.....it took! Hate the moniker, but not sure if I can change it now. Guess I'll live with it! Sandi
edenawaitsme - I love it!!!!! And bigbubbles - well, what can ya say... LOL!! At least now we know - instead of "what does she mean by that!?"
Believe Dave will change it one time for you. Anyhow, he did for me.
Was using my real name & decided I didn't like that; so changed it to my dogs name.
Petra was raised in the truck as DH & I drove OTR for 20+ years. Driving thru the scales in some unremembered state, Petra was riding shotgun & scale man says over the loudspeaker "Is your co-drivers log book up to date?" So told DH I was making her a drivers license. No, you're not putting my last name on there she is a DOG. Nope, going to use Petra L. Dog.
How we named her is another long story.
That's funny about the log book. When I go home I take my cats with me. Whenever I go through the drive throughs to get something to eat the person giving me my order always has to gather all the other employees around to get a look.
Petra loves to go to the bank drive thru with us, as they keep dog treats inside. If the teller doesn't remember she is really disappointed so we just ask & all are happy.
Petra (now it seems funny to call you by your dog's name!!),
What does drove OTR mean? I assume it has something to do with driving semis...but what I don't know!
OTR over the road... That one I knew. I still think we need a DG/pc Dictionary. Or is there one somewhere?
