Where did you get that username?

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

I thought it would be interesting and entertaining to know how everyone came up with their username. Here's my story......I love butterflies, but that word is too long so I shortened it to fly_girl.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

mine's pretty obvious and boring!

Midway, TX(Zone 8b)

I originally thought about Garden Dancer or Dances with Flowers. Too long so I just went with DanceyTx. ;)

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

my son says i remind him of the herbie character from the christmas misfits.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Ththththth - that's my name, folks!

BTW, Good to know, Fly. I was wondering about you!!

Fly_girl started this thread so we'd quit asking her if she worked for an airline! Butterflies are MUCH more interesting!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

That's right Pod, I'm not an FA.

Kristi, if we change my name to Bearded_Lady, then we can work on a name for you.......how about....customs_cruiser, or Clooney_looney?

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Mine came from a Mick Ronson song. Not many have heard of him, but he used to play for David Bowie.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Sorry Billy, I thought that was your name, I have not heard of Mick Ronson, but I like 'China Girl'.

My brother liked to dig arrowheads, which he collected, dealt, showed, and won ribbons. His "trade" name was Dogman (he loved his rottweilers). He passed away in '01 and I miss him terribly. I'm an animal lover too (besides plants!) and I had always liked his trade name...so I thought Dogmansis would be a good one for me. (My real name is Debbie)

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

I get it... I thought it was dog mansis, but it is really dog man sis(ter). That is sweet, and I am very sorry for your loss...

This is a great thread; I wish everyone would check in.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

dogmansis, that is a sweet story, I'm sorry about your brother. Do you have all of his arrowheads? Where would he find them? With all the digging I've done, I have never found one, but would like to.

Mine is kind of obvious!! LOL

I was taking Chinese language when my last screen name became un-getable on one of the sites I was trying, so I went through the Chinese mythology. Zhi Nu is the Chinese goddess of spinning and crafts, is associated with the star Vega, and has a lover story attached to it. You can read more about her here http://www.godchecker.com/pantheon/chinese-mythology.php?deity=ZHI-NU I also use zhinu53, because 5 and 3 are my lucky numbers.

Other screen names I used a lot were Venatrix (Latin for huntress, my online gaming name), delirium, and wahnsinnig (I was taking German when delirium became un-getable, whansinnig is German for delirium, insanity, deliriously, etc...).

My real name is Laura.

Mine is my best gardening bud... he digs where I need to plant and prunes when he thinks things need it... Meet the Podster (pod)

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

And how did Pod get his name?

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Luvsgrtdanes, A friend of mine had a great dane once and she was the sweetest, biggest dog I've ever known.

Zhinu, you have some interesting screen names, Chinese would be cool to learn.

Pod, I was wondering what podster was, you did a little duck and weave earlier, pod is a good looking shepherd!

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I can not speak Chinese, I love the written language, but I can't do tones. I've considered trying Japanese.

Here's mine...

OH!! Croc lover, not cro clover!!! I am loving this!! BTW, I love my crocs too!

Wimberley, TX(Zone 8a)

fly-girl, My bro dug in a LOT of places and had quite the collection. The neighboorhood I live has streets named after arrowheads, and I know he'd dug out here before. I had a friend of mine make me a picture of a panther head out of the best arrowhead heads and sold the rest...I just don't have the room! But I've got a beautiful picture...I mean its really AWESOME and I'm always reminded of my brother when I see it.

I think a lot of arrowhead digging goes on around this area. I've got a couple of friends (actually they're brothers) who both dig and most of what they find are here in the hill country.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Pod is short for Tripod. He was a stray who won our sympathy. A sweetie with 4 legs but a really bad limp. Old injury which he gets on well with and the vet says leave it alone for now. We said he wasn't 3 legged so shortened it and Pod was better than Tripe....

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I thought croclover liked crocodiles!!!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Flygirl Pod is not really a shepherd but some kind of cow dog cross. He has a short tail and the muscled hindquarters of a herding dog. Personality too. When we walk, he herds us, the Lab and I. Tries to keep us together. He looks shepherd ferocious but is a girlie boy. A sweetheart that grins at me when he is scolded. I just can't get too mad about his gardening efforts. At least he doesn't help me water!

Lake Forest, CA(Zone 10a)

I loooove my Crocs! They aren't popular around here- I hear in some parts of the country they are, but so far, the wonders of Crocs has not reached the CAlifornia masses. I bought them for gardening and now I find an excuse to wear them everywhere and this is coming from somebody who lived and died for a cute pair of heels!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

I thought croc was for crocuses, I need to get a pair of crocs. Maybe you should write the company and see if they'll make some crocs with heels for those days you want to just feel 'pretty'. Oh, and some with those pointy toes. I'm tired of feeling 'dated' in the garden.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

fly - They have them in the mall. I got mine two years ago up in Conroe, and they are they best thing to garden in. Just slip in and out, hose off, your feet don't get hot and sweaty, they don't stink. I could go on and on. Sometimes I just wear them shopping or whatever.. Bought a pair for my daughter and granddaughter a couple of weeks ago when they were visiting from Tennessee. I guess they're popular back there too. Just not a lot of shops in her little town.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

I didn't get the croc either till the newspaper had a story on them. Then I laughed!

Arrowheads are cool!

My neighbor's son speaks Chinese. He translates for companies. He was also in the Oklahoma bombing and lost his eye.

I love Pod! He's beautiful!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks billyporter, pod is pretty special.

I am so slow I looked at the picture of the crocs and didn't get it. At least until Croclovers' post this a.m. Ohhhh are we backward here. I do know what they are but .... still trying to move into the 20th century. Sorry!

St. Peter's, PE(Zone 6a)

I absolutely love dianthus in the garden and "articfire" is one of my best performers hence my name Articfire but you can call me Michelle

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Hmmm Articfire Dianthus that's one to look up. Where's PE?

Midway, TX(Zone 8b)

Is this it?

http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/112567/

This is a very pretty dianthus.

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

My last name is Schoolcraft first name Gary. Friends started calling me scoolie. I spell it without the h cuz i'm cool! LOL!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

And you flunked High Scool.....

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

No. but I did miss school on a spelling test in 2nd grade.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

That is too funneeeee!!!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Scoolie, do you mean you SKIPPED school or you missed? I think there's a big dif. heehee

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

HaHa. I meant that I miss spelled the word school.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh, that IS funny, did you spell it without the 'H'?

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

I can't remember for sure. I think I either left one of the o's out or I switched the c and h around.
