googy....goody.... lol

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hi everyone. It's been a whirlwind of a week but next week should be tamer. I'm optomistic. I've been watering, weeding, riding, and trying to get organized to be out of here about 10am tomorrow.

Congratulations on your good test , Kooger. It sounds like you are getting along just fine. I'll think of you henceforth as Lightening Fingers. If I were to take a typing test I would be lucky to score a 10. Let me tell you, the backspace button is a dear friend!

Darius, we had a friend with lung problems who used to say "I woke up breathing" when we would ask him how he was. Any leads on a new place for next winter? Has your landlord been there yet?

Yesterday I went to ride with a friend. I traveled to her place ( about and hour) with my mare and we rode for about 4 hours. The day was beautiful, a light breeze and the bluest sky you ever saw. There are lots of wildflowers blooming once you get up above about 3000 ft. We went clear to the top of a fair sized mountain so probably got to about 7000. The mare only got spooky with me once so I feel more confident about taking her to the ride this weekend. I've arranged for a riding partner who goes my conservative speed and I think I will be ok. The weather is supposed to be good too, sunny, dry and about 80. This ride is in central Oregon near the top of Ochoco Pass. That's pronounced oh chuh ko. We ride through grassy meadows and cross a lot of little streams and zig zag our way though big ponderosa pines. It's like riding in a park all day. We will do the 50 mile ride. A couple of years ago it was 105 on ride day so 80 will be just fine.

I'm too tired to think of more so need to call it a day. The antihistamine has just kicked in and made my mouth feel like cotton and my eyelids heavy. Have a good weekend and remember to count your blessings.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Where in the world is everybody today? Is it a holiday, and no one told me? Usually by this time there are several new posts. Just got back from having lunch with 2 neighbors and friends. I am so fortunate that I have good neighbors and that we have become friends too. We all have so much in common, that we really enjoy each other's company. Haven't done much today. Am working on a church membership audit, so at my desk and computer a lot today. Will get back to work, and will sign on again later. Happy Friday to youall.

Bonnie

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL, Bonnie... I wondered about that myself (holiday).

Glad you got out for lunch with friends. I need to get out of the house more. Isolation because of where I live is bad enough, but when it's been gray and raining for weeks, and at least one more week of it, it's really the pits. Might help if I knew more than 5 people in the whole county... at least I'd know someone to visit. This county is so sparsely populated... we have just TWO fast food joints in the entire county... a Subway and a Hardee's.

Starkville, MS

Count your blessings darius. DH and I live outside a University town. The student population equals (and maybe even exceeds) the resident population. Therefore, we have EVERY variety of fast food joint out there! I live in the "5 piece box" zone. A box of three pieces of chicken gets thrown out several miles up the road, but a five piece box lasts a little longer, so we get the trash on our roadside. Drink bottles are the same, the bigger the bottle, the farther they get from town before they throw it into the ditch. Our relief is that our house is 1/2 from the county road and that private drive saves us from that mess in our yard. I have traveled thruogh many states in my life time, and I have never seen a dirtier state than MS. Now don't get me wrong here, I love this state, and hope to finish out my life right here in my Briarpatch. I just wish more people around here cared about the landscape and welfare of our wildlife than is evident along the roadside.

Sorry, I'm back on one of my soapboxes.

Anyway, I trust all is well with all of you, and we all survive the heat-humidity-rain-no rain, etc., that surrounds each of us.It is going to be a strange summer, weather wise, so I guess we'll just have to make the best of what we get. Camalot, where are you?!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

tgif, even without fast food joints I am amazed at all the trash people throw out the vehicle windows. Around here it's mostly plastic soda bottles. We're a dry county so not too many beer cans.

Starkville, MS

The cans aren't the problem around here, they get picked up for recycle, it's the paper, plastic, and most damaging, the glass, which gets broken by the county mowers and does so much injury to the wildlife. That and the fishing line that careless fisherman throw out and tangle around little feet and wings.

I now MUST get back outside to finish mowing the meadow.

83o, but feels like 103!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

I walk every night, and I walk along a county road by my house. I take a grocery bag with me and pick up what ever I find. People have seen me doing this, and now we have walkers who also carry the grocery bag. You can tell if they are beginning their walk (empty bag) or if they are finishing their walk (full bag). Therefore, for about a mile in either direction of my house, the roadsides are clean. However, I know what you are talking about. People get out and collect the aluminum cans, but leave the rest of the trash. In Kentucky, one day a week the county jails are emptied and the prisioners pick up trash on those days. This just started, but it is making a difference. BTW, you can tell what the prision population is in each county!!. The bigger the population, the cleaner the roadsides!!. I am sure that the prisioners don't mind,I wouldn't, if I was locked up 24 hours a day, I would be glad for the opportunity to be outside that one day.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Around here, the "good" prisoners (like 30 days) are often assigned to road crews to hold the traffic stop & go signs. I'm sure they get paid, but not much.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Whew, hot here too... Had a late tee time this morning so we got the mid day heat and now I need a third shower....Spent the early morning shoving furniture around, since I spotted a bargain kitchen hutch yesterday at my favorite overstocked stuff store. Had to move the maple piece (which wasn't really a kitchen hutch but more like a secretary) into the guest room which meant rearranging the guest room, and taking out a book case, moving the bed, etc etc. so I got all sweaty after the first shower.. took another, golfed, sweated some more, so I'm ready for the third!

I think someone has put a curse on me. Mike went back to work yesterday and my "guest" left. Presumably for home. Mike planned to take his truck in for diagnostics today, so he was going to meet a coworker at the auto shop, and ride in to work with him. Just as he was pulling out of the driveway, guess who shows up!!! Yup, the BIL. I swear, he's like gum on your shoe. Said he was having transmission trouble, Mike said, "sorry, gotta go to work", handed him the yellow pages, and left. By the time I was out of the shower and dressed, his car was gone so now I have no idea where he is, or if he is coming back or what. Already stripped the bedding so I hope he isn't planning another night here.

Aren't there New York apartments where the tub is in the kitchen, and a board flips down over it when it's not in use??? LOL I wouldn't mind one, as long as I was the one who got to be in it, and pass out instructions, "cook that", etc. The jello sounds interesting too, but I'm afraid I'd ask for cream to put on it and eat my way out of the tub. I love jello but now I get it in those premade containers at the market because I never think of making it until it's too late for it to set.

Had a lovely lunch, coconut shrimp over a fruit salad with oriental sesame dressing. Yummy. Here's the hutch, what do you think? It's certainly not a fine piece of furniture, but I liked the tile effect and the bleached color. Thinking if I can squeeze the tv/vcr into the lower space, and.... hmmm ......more lifting.....better wait on the third shower....

Our county jails have that program too, on a voluntary basis. Sometimes they will also wash a car for you if you are going to a funeral. It helps everyone when they help clean the roads, but mostly they stick to the main highways. Our little road depends on us residents. You have done a great service by doing your own pickup, and by setting an example for neighbors, who are now pitching in. Thanks from someone who cares, even if I do live many miles away.
Ya'll just keep egging me on and I end up on a soapbox again.

So, now back out to the weedeater. DH took the mower (bless him) so we are getting two jobs done at once.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Looks like a really versatile piece, M5. I like the bleached color... looks about the same as my computer armoire.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Neat hutch, I am always finding something I want, however, I have run out of room, so until I can assess what I want to get rid of, I will keep what I have.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

M5, I guess you saw Jack Nicklaus/British Open.
He missed the cut by ONE stroke! He finished for the day at Even
and the cut was +1.

Can y'all tell I'm very bored, by all my recent posts? Nothing else to do here. I could go out and weed but my landlord is spreading a finely ground mulch he had delivered. When I went out to get the mail, I went into a sneezing fit from it, so I'm staying inside even though we have a break in the rains. Not even anything good on the food channel!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Thanks Darius...I thought it was a good deal, and it really brightens up that side of the dinette. Now I have to transfer some of my cook books, and fiddle around with the tv instead of reading posts.....Hey! Do you know how to play backgammon? Pogo has a good game site and it's good for a couple of hours of wasted time. It's easy to sign up with a screen name, and is free. Let me know if you are up for a game, and I'll give you my screen name...even teach you how to play if you don't know.....LOL I'm hardly ever bored!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I have never played backgammon. I'll let you know if I want to learn. Thanks for the offer!

edited to say I've solved some of the boredom problem. Two weeks ago I unpacked a big box of Springbok puzzles I need to sell, and they've just been sitting around. So I cleared off a space on my computer work area to assemble puzzles. My work area consists of 2 oak tabletops 6 feet long at right angles to each other, supported by industrial-looking metal furniture-grade saw horses. Now I just need a lamp on that side so I don't have to move my computer lamp back and forth.

Darius, when I am bored, I work crosswords, fill ins, jigsaw puzzles, read or cook. I am not much of a TV fan, so if I am home alone, the tv is never on. Sorry about your yard situation and the mulch making you sneeze. WhenI was at my friends funeral yesterday, right in the middle of the service I started sneezing and sneezed about 20 times in a row. Thought I was going to have to get up and leave. I suppose some of the flowers there was the culprit.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Good Morning everyone!

tgif...Welcome to our 'table'...if you've come in before I've lost track of the name. LOL But that wouldn't be the first time I've done that. We have a 'Super-Max' just down the road...so I think the system we have here for picking up trash along the highways is better than letting those people lose for even an hour. hahaha

We have the "Adopt-a-highway' program here. Businesses, organizations, and individuals sign up to pick up trash and our highways and main access roads look pretty good most of the time. We also have an area that *is* adopted by the Courts...these are for the people who get "Community Service" sentences. (I just hope I never get one of those punishments...the areas are very visible. ;-))

Nice Hutch, M5. I particularly am drawn to the tile work. It's a good thing I don't go shopping...if I found something that I absolutely *had* to have, I'd have to close in a window or door to get wall space to put it! LOL

Dcat...It's nice to know your name. 'Bonnie' is one of my favorite names. It was my favorite doll (Bonnie Braids) and the name of one of the most glamorous ladies I ever met (she wore White Shoulders perfume and had the most gorgeous evening dresses for little girls to play dress-up in)...so, if you don't mind, I'll be calling you 'Bonnie' too. :-)

Darius...I hope you get to be outdoors today...without the sneezing!

Not much to report on from this end. Still dry. The news caster on the Madison station said "You can't *buy* a drop of rain in this area." Boy, she said a mouthful with that comment. The only thing good about the lack of rain is being able to get experience with 'drought-tolerant' plants...thank goodness for some of the *accidental* choices I planted. hehehe

Morning all, I should be showering for work -oh well, get the important things done first. lol

Last night I got the BIG Round Robin sent off. I finally was able to get to the post office on Tuesday to get it. Boy is there a lot of seeds in there. I emptied my seed box of most everything and added them to it. No sense in keeping them, I figure. Hope someone else can use them.

Yeah, I really like the tile on that hutch too - also am a tile lover. I have quite a few Delft tiles I want DH to make a buffet top with. I have the unfinished buffet, but I may have to tackle the job myself. He hasn't touched it yet and I've had it 3 or 4 years already. It's on blocks in the basement - so it never gets wet - ha ha!

Right now, I'm seeing cracks in the dirt. The rain finally stopped a week ago. Corn is so tall this year it's unreal. Most of it was shoulder height by the 4th and almost every field is tasseling already. Talk about early! Haven't visited with sis in WI the past few weeks - will call her tmr. (I keep doing that - tmr - for tomorrow - it one of the 'expandable' abbreviations at work - the computer automatically makes it tomorrow for us. We have a whole list of them - cld or cd, cll, shud, wld, pls, hd or hld, psble, probly, rechd, acct, pymt, etc.)

Now i gotta run, have a good day all!

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

It's 86 out this morning at 8o'clock... already been out to water the thirsty ones. Kooger, I saw some fields of corn as I crossed Missouri that were head and shoulders tall back two weeks ago.... most of the fields I drove by were more in the thigh high category.... wondered what made the difference.
M5, no jello here - couldn't find it if I looked... that's a great hutch, my house is full or I'd covet it too.

First cuppa in hand, I dropped in to say 'hi' before the action begins here this morning. Darius, doesn't look good for any drying out time in your neighborhood.

Well, on to the remo saga... today a different tub altogether... seems they sent the wrong front panel for the tub [6ft instead of the 5ft the tub is] and don't know how long it might be before another could be obtained.

So the solution has become to take one of the tubs they have on hand with pieces/parts on hand. First new tub is back in kitchen, will be exchanged today.

''No expectations''... most recent motto here. LOL

Well - we've gotten LOTS of rain....I'm ready for it to be over now -but they say it's going to continue through the week. So - haven't had to water anything - and man, my bird gourd vine is taking over the yard. I swear I hear it saying "Feed ME" occasionally.

Gotta go grocery shopping - yuck! But looking forward to girls night out tonight with my niece. The great niece and nephew are at Grandma's until the 30th - so we're taking the opportunity to go out - just us girls. Should be fun.

Everyone have a great day. Gotta go finish catching up on all the other forums and then off to shop.

Good job, Kooger. You'll be up for another raise soon with those scores. Those abreviations are easy to read, wonder if that's where the kids on the 'net got the idea to shorten everything to bbl, e1, imho, lol, gtg, etc. Makes for a lot less typing.

I posted something yesterday, but it didn't show up so it must have timed out. Oh well, I was just complaining about my house guest who I thought had left for home Thursday morning, but showed up again on Friday. He's like gum on your shoe. Said he didn't like to stay with his other brother because that brother complains all the time. Maybe it doesn't allow him enough time to whine about all his problems. DH even laughed when he told me he said that.

Dcat, (Bonnie!) I ran out of room a long time ago, but it doesn't stop me. I just shuffle the rest of the furniture around...now I have a book case behind a chair in the living room, and stuffed the kitchen secretary chest in the guest room, which required moving the bed, the sewing machine, the other five drawer chest, the rocking chair, and the little craft stand. I worked up a good sweat even before I went to golf. I need the storage for all the needlework my stepmom did, table cloths, runners, pillowslips, etc. because I can't bear to part with them. DDs haven't taken me up on my offer to them so I guess they can fight over them after I croak.

Calling on Handyhelper Darius about this little table, with her vast experience she might have a suggestion. I'm thinking I'd like to match it up to the hutch, by first cleaning it up with mineral spirits, to get off the tung oil finish, sanding it a little, applying a non-glossy flat latex, might try wiping off some of it to see how it looks. If I don't get good results from wiping, then maybe faux finishing afterwards. It's maple, so it would never bleach up light enough to just pickle it.... what say, Darius? Am I on the right track? I'm open to any other suggestions.

Picked swiss chard and green beans this morning after weeding out the side garden. Weeds like this hot weather too. It's up to 85 already, so that's my effort for the day, not going back out there once I get the sheets off the line. No breeze either.

We have that adopt-s-highway program here too but there's still a lot of Walmart bags flapping in the bushes, and empty containers along the road. People really are messy, makes you wonder what their house looks like....(Like mine???hahahahahaha)

Think Sarv is having fun yet? Bet she's missing her daily check-ins. I know I would! Later, dudes!! ( see, I'm hip...or is that hippy...)

Hi GOBs,
Just checking in to let you know I'm still around! I read your doings everyday, but either haven't had a minute to chip in, or I'm busy saying 'Nowt". That was one of my grandpa's expressions - 'When youve nowt useful to say say nowt', (nowt is nothing in Yorkshire).
So if someone said to him 'your a bit quiet today' or something like that, he would just say "Nowt".
I think my Grandpa (mum's dad) had more influence on me and my development than my parents - I adored him, and sadly lost him when I was 16. Interesting because my son was more influenced by my father than anyone else. I don't think dad realised it, but its obviouse if you listen to DS, he often echos his grandpa.
Well thats my thought for today, I'm now off to get my copy of the new Harry Potter, which will then do the rounds of the entire family. That way they say its value for money - my money though you'll have noticed!!!! LOL

Julie88, thanks for the compliment on my name. I have a twin sister who's name is Connie. I have an older brother who is Ronnie and another sister who is Glenna. I asked mom once why she didn't name her something that rhymed, but she was named after my dad. Not to let your memories down, I am beautiful and elegantly dressed, but I don't wear White Shoulders. I'M BACKKKKKKK!! Do you know how long 10 days is without a computer??? LONGGGG>

We had a glorious time camping despite a few snafrous (sp?) Boat that we lugged up there didn't work, but thankfully there were enough others that DH got out fishing daily. DGS was reasonably well behaved. DS and DIL stayed with us the whole week. DS got a little grouchy - told DIL not to complain to me - I've lived with his dad for 37 yrs...

Ate like a pig and don't dare hop on the scale. And wouldn't you know I have blood work done on Mon - my cholestrol will probably be off the charts!! And I found I had to leave my pants unbuttoned after Wednesday!! It was in the 90's all week and even I consented to leaving the trailer AIR on!! It was a real cooker. The only good part is not much laundry - got up - put the suit on, took it off to climb into bed. Mosquitos were ferocious tho - have many patches of bites.

Came home to a parched grass/gardens, however it is pouring now - our welcome sign I think!

Now I need to unload the trailer - do the laundry because tomorrow is a cross county garden tour!! Then next weekend we are camping again with the deaf side of the family - that should be a real treat!!

Missed everyone of you!! And glad to be home again....

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

M5 - me too... can always shift things to make room for a 'just right piece' BUT not right now. Can't even shift me, much less furniture.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Welcome Back, Sarv!!

Laura, Looks like you are doing great at work!!

Okus/Carol, glad to see you poking your head in here, too!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Welcome back Sarv. 10 days is too long without a computer. Glad to hear that you had a good vacation. Don't worry about the extra weight, get out in the heat and sweat some and before you know it, you will have lost it. Meezer, Blooms, I am going to have to start suspending things from the ceiling, if I get one more piece of furniture.!! As bad as DL hates helping move furniture, can you just image if I asked him to put in wires to suspend things from. Talking about a Hissy Fit, probably don't want to be around for that one.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Great idea,,, indoor sky hooks... get me one too.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Morning everyone!

SARV'S HOME!!! YEAH!!! We missed you!

Carol...you can still jump in and say "Nowt" just to let us know you're OK and keeping up with the 'jabber'. LOL

Kooger...sorry...I forgot to comment on your scores but I was really glad you you did so well when I read your post. (Sorry...it's the old timers forgetfulness again). And how does one go from having rain to having soil cracks SO fast??? Nevermind. The sun is hot enough to bake brownies here too.

Bonnie...I *knew* you had to be all those things (beautiful, elegant, etc) That's one thing the GOB's have in common!

Blooms and M5...your bathtub and hutch remind me of *work*...something that seemed for many years would never stop. The bathtub, aside from the kitchen remodeling I've already mentioned, reminds me of the wall that had to come down in order to fit the HUGE corner jacuzzi into (That bathtub then became a part of our bedroom...sorta like a motel...LOL) And the hutch brings back the New Year's Eve refinishing projects that DH and I somehow got into the habit of doing many years ago. (Glad that time of my life is finished! LOL I wish I'd had Darius there to help out with ideas. (HI Darius!)

BB (Marcia) if your Birdhouse gourds bare well, you can send me a couple of them next spring. ;-) Mine are taking over the greenhouse structure but so far I've only seen a couple of small gourds. I think a little water might have helped them out a bit. (But the blossoms make for *great* photos!)

Now, just in case I've missed someone..."HI" to you...too.

Yesterday I spent most of the day inside (Playing cards on the computer (Euchre)) mixed in with short walks to the outside watering plants, digging up and replanting the most desperate (*and* most admired!) among them. I took pics of the prettiest flowers and the nicest views so in years to come I could look back and think "That year wasn't *so* bad, after all." hehehe yeah, right! It's just a good thing I have a good imagination...both for the thought I'm trying to impress upon my brain *and* for the beautiful flower beds that now only exist IN my imagination. LOL

It's still not too bad outside, so I'm headed out to water a couple of beds and maybe I'll get those last few plants into some containers to fill the really bare spots.

Y'all have a GREAT day!

~julie~

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Made it to the garden tour - drove 118 miles and visited 10 gardens. It was a fun day - but hotter than hades!! Thank goodness many of the gardens had cold water (one even had cookies - yea!!!!) I especially laughed at one. It was in a beautiful subdivision, but the front yard and both sides were done in a ' wild prairie' type look - awful this time of the year. I bet the neighbors are ticked - it looked really ratty amongst all the other manicured lawns. The back yard was beautiful - too bad they didn't switch things around.

After being gone, things have really gone to 'weeds' around here. I will need to spend the next several days yanking them out. Several of my dahlias are all crispy around the edges- anyone know what's with them? I have a gorgeous one , then a crispy one right by its side. hmmm

Man are the daylilies gorgeous this year!! Just wish I would have labeled mine...

well, time for a bowl of ice cream... yum.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hello again. I'm back from my endurance riding adventure, had a good day (which means staying ON the horse!), and finished the 50 miles with about an hour to spare. This time I took my young mare and so went a bit slower than usual and it was a pretty tough ride. She behaved fairly well and finished with energy to spare. Ride day was cooler than the day before when we traveled to the ride and it was 104 in one valley I drove through! Hubby said it was about 100 here that afternoon so I was glad I had spent some extra time Friday morning to be sure everything was watered. I started watering again when I got home and am very glad we have a good well that produced 50+ gallons a minute when we had it tested.

Garden tour sounds like fun! Whenever they have one here I seem to be gone to a ride. It's all about priorities I guess, and riding is more important right now than staying home to see gardens, much as I would like to be in both places at once. This weekend was our local town festival. I drove past the local park and fairgrounds where most of the activities are taking place on Friday and again today and it looked like the crowd was good. Those festivals bring a lot of money to the local businesses. I guess that's part of the reason every little town seems to have something like that, besides the fun of just getting together to do stuff.

M5, that is a nice little treasure you bought. I like the tiles on it. When you get it filled up with stuff take another picture for us to see. I'd say it was worth the work to rearrange stuff in a couple of rooms to make everything fit. I read a funny story about somebody who rescued an old cabinet of some kind for just a few dollars, took the warped and ruined top off it, tiled it, refinished it and had it for sale in her yard sale with a siqn that said "best offer". Three women started a bidding war on it, and one of them was the person who had sold it to her and she didn't recognize it for quite a while. When she did she got mad (probably too embarrassed to do anything else). Another bidder bought it for several times the original price. One lady went home happy, one mad and the other maybe disappointed. The seller, of course, laughed all the way to the bank.

It's nice to see Carol back, and a new face too, welcome to tgif.

Time to change the sprinkler again, tidy up the house a little, shower and get to bed early to try to make up for sleep lost this weekend.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well have had a busy day. Up at 5:30, fixed 2 casseroles to take to a church "homecoming" Also made a blackberry cobbler. First it was to our regular church, then home to get the food and on to the other church. Lunch at 1:00, and services at 2:30. Didn't get home until 4:00. I rested some as DGR was due to arrive at 6:00. Went to visit with DM while DH was mowing lawn. After he finished we went fishing, with DGD taking a friend. We caught about 12 "keepers". These were blue gill. Didn't get home until after 9:00. Talked to sister and then ate supper. DGD has gone to bed, so I am "resting" before going to bed. Tomorrow, I am finishing laying tile on DM back porch. I started this project about a month ago, and ran out of tile. So had to go get more, but other things have prevented me from finishing. On Tuesday will be painting DM front porch. Then on Wednesday, taking DM to Doctor. She was bitten by a brown recluse spider about 4 weeks ago, and it is slowly healing. Of course throw in the grocery shopping, and hoping to get a hair cut this week, sounds like it will be a busy week. DGD school starts on August 10. My twin sister and her 2 DGD and me and My DGD are going to Gaitlinburg on August 1,2 and 3. The kids wanted to do something before school begins, so this is what they decided they wanted to do. I will be glad when school starts and I will be able to get back to my regular routine. Love her, but when I have her all summer, it wears me out. Looking forward to going to KyRU, but first we are going to Virginia in September to friends to help out with a fall festival. Then September 20 and 21 we are going to Lagootee Indiana to a horse auction. So really, we have a busy schedule until frost, or snow flies. Of course we are having our annual fish fry on September 10, so that will be a lot of work, but we enjoy it. Will have approximately 80-90 friends, for fish that we have caught all summer. Then throw in all the gardening chores, gathering and canning, and I better find that 3rd gear fast. Well rambled enough, will read some, then to bed. Have a great night, and maybe I will have some goodies for in the morning.

What a bunch of busy bees! Welcome back, those of you who've been galavanting around, or busy with family, or just trying to keep your gardens from drying up and blowing away. Y'all have been so busy, I'm impressed! I've just been watering....lol..oh, and planted the last dozen of those bargain petunias.

Visitor finally left (again) yesterday around noon, DH and I went to a company "do" which was a dinner cruise around the harbor. There was an air show going on, so we had a nice view of the planes. The food was so-so but there was a nice apple strudel for dessert. Stopped on the way home to feed DS's fur family and water their flowers, and hoped that when we got here we would only see our own vehicles in the drive!!

No major chores planned for today. Tidy up the guest room, maybe tackle that little table the tv is on, and see if I can make it look like it came from the same family as the hutch.

Peeked out the front door to see if it had cooled off overnight (not) and see that the purple phlox is blooming next to some Rudbeckia that I thought I had dug out completely! Some of the perennial grasses are coming back in the combat zone, but I don't see any horsetail....yet. DH plans to cover the whole area with newspapers, then black plastic, then wood chips but hasn't gotten to it yet, what with the time he spent trying to get his brother's car to run. Funny, his vehicles always run well enough to get here.....! They replaced the transmission! (Picture me rollling my eyes.)

Weatherman said Maybe a Tstorm today, and tomorrow. . . . sure. believe it when I see it.

Good morning everyone...

Nothing new here, just wanted to check in and let everyone know it still hasn't rained here, don't expect it to...and I *don't* trust the weather channel, either! LOL

Bonnie...it's *so* good to hear someone else who gets 'exhausted' babysitting with the grans. I think I'm about ready to pay for a babysitter for mine in order to get some time to *think*. LOL

I'm going out to start the hoses (again!) and maybe get a couple of plants I dug out of the 'concrete' beds planted in a more accessible place. In other words, somewhere I can manage to scope out before the heat sends me back to the AC. :-)

"'When youve nowt useful to say say nowt', (nowt is nothing in Yorkshire)."

Okus,
How funny that you posted this now. Long story VERY short, bizarre circumstances knocked out computer and on and off electricity in the house. Sooooo, to relieve my frustration I pulled out something to read that was gentle and soothing. Namely the complete works of James Herriot. His descriptions of Yorkshire and the use of the dialect are guaranteed to transport you to a place of wonder. I hadn't read them in years, it was like old friends met again.
