Doing fine here today. Had a power outage late last night for a while, lots of wind and some hard rains, although Dennis was long passed by then.
Had three of our members to the house yesterday, not letting some hurricane interrupt our gardening social activities. We had a wonderful visit, the strong breezes helped to keep some of the sweat off our brows, well until we started doing some serious plant sharing. :^))))
We had a nice long visit, then I remember I was expected next door for a dinner party. I dashed to the shower, did the hair dryer thing and decided my hair doesn't act like it used to so why bother fussing over it. It looks the same as doing nothing at all. My neighbor is originally from Germany, many many years ago, although she still carries a good accent. She had some german friends in and a neighbor or two from down the street. It was great fun. Had lots of german food. I have never liked sauerkraut, but she did a great job and it tasted good. This old dog can still learn new tricks.
Well, I put the final coat of blue on the signs this morning, it took 3 coats to complete. I started it on Friday, did two coats that day. Ya know those shorty zip lock baggies many people use to send plants out in? There's one in the picture. That was a great baggie for storing the wet roller in for two days. Still wet, not gummy at all. That way I only had to wash the roller cover once.
Signs done, got my gym back, so have no excuse not to get out there and work my behind back into the right shape. It's starting to look like this ergonomic chair I'm sitting in.

Coffee and...Part 21...! :-D
Signs are excellent!!! Still hot here. Burned up the front garden yesterday. Gonna burn it some more today. See ya later
Smokey the Bandit
Yes, excellent signs!
m5 - wish I could send u some of our rain - got 4 inches on Thurs. am and then another 1.75 on Fri. morn!! Unreal - we don't need all that - wish we could share!
Geeeeez, DH has been watering so much I'm expecting to turn on the faucet and get .........air! Hot too. Ugh. Was supposed to be cooler today. BIG FAT LYING Weatherman!!
Meezer, what mean - ''burned front garden''?
Uh_Oh , M5 is running amock with her torch again !!!
run ' n hide all you little weeds .
aaah... ~/;-)~~ i get it
Hi Blooms ;-D
Lookie what I made >> > > > >
(((*-*)))
cute huh ?
;) luv it
OMG M5 ! ! !
Hey , anyone notice the absence of all the neighbors in that picture ? ? ? ?
Looks like even the kidletts ran off and left their toys behind instead dealing with "The Torch Lady"
Bwwwaaaahahahaha!
meezer, I want some of your rocks!!. My Ky limestone is so boring looking, these little babies would do wonders for my annual beds. Tell you what, you gather them, and I will pay the freight on them!! LOL
Went to horse show last night. Almost like a reunion, visiting with people I don't see much anymore. Really enjoyed that part more than the horse show.
Got to take DGD home this afternoon. She is going to horse camp next week, so I have the whole week off!
Still hot and dry here, although they are predicting rain Monday and Tuesday, the after effects of Dennis. Sorry for the folks hit by the storm, but we sure can use the rain.
Yeah, Scooter, they know better than to tangle with a woman on a mission!!! DH says it isn't gonna work, not hot enough to get at the roots, but I said, at least it's all flat ....hahahahaha.
Forgot to set the timer on the coffeemaker last night. Got some? Waiting..............want coffee...whi-i-i-i-ine..
Catch up later, gotta shower and convince Oskar that he likes to ride in the car to visit the vet.
Hey M5! I don't *need* a torch to burn MY weeds! The weather is doing it for me!
I really feel sorry for those folks in the gulf coast and inland where they are expecting heavy rain & severe weather. Take care you guys!
Blooms, glad you're enjoying being back home. There's days around here when I wish we only had 4% humidity...but of course I'd just like the WIND to stop blowing, too. Fat chance either one is going to happen. LOL
Molly...those signs look terrific! You must see your work with a terribly critical eye. What I see is VERY nice work!
Nothing new going on around here (Obviously!)
~julie~
P.S. Did Sarv get off on her vacation?
Thank you all for the compliments on the signs. I turned them in this morning and the boss was happy.
I guess I am critical of my work. The good thing about that is, I rarely get criticism from my customers, because I am pickier than they are.
:^)))
Molly
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, unless it's your own eye. Those who look at our flower beds say, oh, how nice and neat, and I see weeds popping up, deadheading off schedule, bare spots that need filling, and mulch that needs topping off!
Back from the vet almost $200 poorer, should have taken him to my internist, would have been cheaper! He grumbled the whole way, but you'd never know it from the way he sucked up to the tech and the vet... Didn't hear a peep all the way home, somehow he knows the return trip has a happier ending! Then, naturally, he went and complained to DH about it so could get some more petting.
Still no sign of rain, maybe Dennis will send some up this way in a couple of days. Hot too. Hesitating to put my new lilies in the ground ((((Molly)))) but probably should. Now. Won't get cooler.
Even though Dennis went far west of us, today has all the aftermath of it anyway. Some trees down, winds blowing from every direction, and lots of rain off and on. Since our TV is via a dish, we don't get any local weather reports.
M5, I'd love to send some of this rain your way!
Julie and Defoe need it too Darius, but I'm willing to share! Bring it on!
Darius, how bad is it? I thought it was going way west of you. The Asheville paper didn't have anything in it today about flooding. You apparently got more of Dennis than I did. We were just out of range of the bands, just got one BAD one.
Pati
Pati, yes, Dennis went waaay west, so I'm not sure what this is from.
It wouldn't be so bad if we weren't already so saturated. The forecast is just for 1 to 1-1/2 inches of rain but a bucket I have sitting outside probably has close to 3 inches already.
All the creeks high (and muddy) but I didn't see any flooding when I was out earlier. I think the downed trees might be just from the ground being already so saturated although there are small branches and leaves all over the place like we normally see after a lot of wind.
Darius, there was a program on inland effects of hurricanes and they made the point, as you do, that the ground gets so saturated that the weight of the trees just tip them over. Scarey stuff!
Pati
You should have seen me driving to town under the tree canopy! I felt like I should have had on a hard hat even knowing full well it would offer NO protection if a tree came down on my truck, LOL.
It would be nice if we could even out this precipitation business. We haven't had more than a "trace" in over a month - hence the low humidity. We may yet get a thunderstorm some time this week. which means a little bit of rain will come down hard and furious and run off because the land is baked too hard to accept it.
Wh i i i ne !!!
need a 'nother cuppa coffee and mebbe something to eat with this one. Was wandering around the house earlier picking up random objects, old magazine clippings [ two boxes full ], several old windbreakers and a coupla wool jackets... two bags full of curtains [ that will now come in handy, now that they're gone]. All this to put out in the trash before the truck came and picked it up.
Whew! I deserve a break. ~/;-)~ wear hat when in sun. [reminder to self]
Hi again. Wow, it takes a long time to catch up with 3 days worth of stuff on this thread! Some of you folks have had a lot of rain and some of you will get it soon. We got about .4 inch while I was gone this weekend. I know some of you wouldn't even measure that but it was nice for my gardens. Where I was we got just a couple of light showers on Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday was great weather for the ride. I rode from 5am until 8:41pm with just 2 hours of rest time. Breezy did well and we finished in 2nd place for the day. That sounds impressive but there were only 4 starters and 3 finishers on the 75 mile ride so I have to say I was next to first or next to last or mid pack. The ride manager saved plates of the bbq and it's accompanyments for myself and my riding partner who rode with me all day and finished about a second behind me (not racing, just riding in together). She was doing her first 75 mile ride. Her horse looked great and scored a little higher on the final vet check than mine did so she was impressed! I kept telling her that Max is in great shape and now I think she believes me.
On the way home yesterday we stopped at a fruit stand and bought fresh cherries. They are so good being ripe when they are picked. I got 10 pounds for 10 for $10 so ate cherries all the way home and still have lots. My hubby and I just love them. I would have bought corn too but it won't be ready for about 2 more weeks. The Yakima Valley is a great growing area and although it is north of here it is a lower elevation. Agriculture is BIG business there, lots of orchards and vineyards in the area along with other crops. Winerys everywhere you look it seems. I'd love to tour one some day but haven't taken the time to do it.
Speaking of time, the day is getting away from me. I have laundry to do, a horse to ride, and then another easy cattle gathering job for Breezy who should be ready for light duty today. See you later.
I want to W H I N E too. LOL Geez Louise this weather is getting the best of me. It's not really humid outside right now...at least I can't fell it if it is. Does that mean I'm sweating profusely? :-D I can't do any more than sit in the shade, move a pot, sit in the shade again...go move another pot...come in for iced tea...go back and sit in the shade again.
Mary, sounds like you had a nice 'vacation'. And congrats on getting that rain (unless, of course, you didn't really need it in the first place. hehehe)
Last year I was crying in my beer because it seemed to rain *every* day. Things were rotting instead of 'frying.' Oh well...this probably means that we're going to have a snowmobiler's winter (=LOTS of snow) and we haven't one of those for a while.
I think I'm going to play a few hands of Euchre and let myself dry off for a while before I head back out.
Later!
~julie~
Well, I was up early this morning. Rain was predicted so went out and did some weeding, topping off mulch, deadheading, etc. Came in did laundry, washed 2 outside door windows, and over the kitchen sink. Even went and washed the car windows, just guaranteeing the rain!! LOL. So it has started to rain here. Not hard, but a gentle shower type. The weather guys are saying that this is remnant of Dennis, and will probably stall out in the Ohio Valley. Predicting heavy rains for tonight and tomorrow. We need it, as we haven't had but 3/10 inch in 2 months. So I have a lot of indoor activity planned for the next couple of days. Need to catch up household chores anyway. Plan to read some too. Read all time in winter, but summer it slows down. Well to the kitchen to start something for supper.
M5, put those babies in the ground and give'em some water. I want to see them bloom, and they will, this summer!!!
Daylilies are the easiest plants to grow. They like hot, they like dry, they don't mind wet. Ya can't lose with them.
Seriously, I was hoping to see some blooms this summer so they can be re-identified.
Molly
:^)))
I put them in this morning with a little dose of rooting hormone and a good drink of water, and if they like it hot, they should be really happy. I'll take a pic tomorrow, the leaves are pretty limp and there's some yellowing but I think the root systems are fine, they were nice and plump, so your wrapping kept them moist. I'll absolutely take pics when they bloom, I put them in the side garden near the bird bath so they will get watered frequently. Can't wait to see them bloom.
Visitor here, so we went out for dinner at "pedro's" which has pretty decent food. Just got home. Need to take my meds and get to bed early, bailing in the early am to play golf far far away. LOL
Now that Dennis has blown himself silly, maybe some of that rain will drift up this way. They keep promising....and I washed my car, too, Dcat, so with a double whammy, we should get some!
Mmmmm fresh cherries, we are pigging out on them here too but they are slightly dearer than 10lbs for $10. Doesn't stop us though. Yummmm.
Oh dear, I just thought, on top of Mexican food..........yikes!! Hope Sarv is having a good time, and all our Florida friends are safe and dry. Molly, those lilies escaped just in time!!
Just checking in to see what's new. I could use some dessert but apparently nobody is baking anything. It's that time of year. I know I sure don't want to bake and I can't blame you for not doing it either. I ate strawberry ice cream this afternoon to cool off so I don't really need it anyhow.
Today I took a nice ride on Patch, he has recovered from his torn muscle problem of about 6 weeks ago and seems to be sound going up or down hills. It got pretty hot while we were out there in the hills, we scared one deer out of it's bed, didn't see any rattlesnakes. I don't know if that is good or bad since I know they are out there, but in the hot part of the day they are probably down a hole or in some other cool spot. Anyhow, I don't get off the jeep roads or cow trails in snake season and I think moving fast is definitely an advantage. By the time a snake could wake up, coil and strike we are gone. Patch is a good horse, likes to move right along at a fast trot or faster, and is not spooky. I feel completely safe on him.
We postponed the cow work tomorrow morning before it gets hot and before I have to go to town. 6am is not so early when it is light at about 4:30. I'll get up with the birds, feed the horses early and be on my way on Breezy about 5:45. Riding a horse to work about the time the sun is coming up behind the mountains is not something many people get to do.
Time to tidy up the kitchen and call it a day. Goodnight.
>> Riding a horse to work about the time the sun is coming up behind the mountains is not something many people get to do.<<
meant to add- lucky you.

Happy Birthday, MaryE!!!
And a Happy Birthday to Mary E. from ME too!
~julie~
Happy Birthday, may you start it watching sunrise from your horse's back.
Happy Birthday, Mary E. Getting some much needed rain. So can't work outside today. A dear friend died during surgery last night, so am making food to take to family. We had been friends for over 30 years. Sure gonna miss him. His wife is depending on me and DH to assist with arrangements and other details, as she is not good with insurance, wills, cemetery plots, etc. Not that we are experts, just doing it out of friendship and love. Sort of a shoulder to cry on. Hope I have one when I need it!!. I've found that if you treat people like you would want to be treated, that any deed done, is returned in some manner. Not that I expect it. Well will post later this evening as I need to get moving.
d'cat... glad to hear about the much-needed rain... and so sorry to hear about losing your friend. It's lovely that you are able to help out in a time like this.
Doing the happy dance here because it rained all over the place!! (Thanks Darius) Rained out my golf game, do I care?? NO NO NO!! Want more!! Dcat, maybe we should wash our cars again? Mine needs it, I went through some road construction! So sad to lose a friend of so many years, and how lucky they are to have you to help them.
Happy birthday Mary, enjoy the occasion!! What a way to start the day...on a horse with the sun coming up! That's got to be glorious!
Since I ran all over town running errands, I'd better go put the stuff away. Stopped at the farmer's market and picked up some haricot verts from one of the sellers. They get the seeds from Johnny's Selected Seeds, and she said the variety never gets large, they stay slender and sweet. I picked ONE green bean this morning...and there are lots of blossoms just waiting ...my swiss chard is huge, so I need to go pick some. Before it RAINS again. (more happy dance!!)
Yea, M5!!! If I was as dry as you have been, I'd give up a golf game for rain too. Wonder if Julie is getting a share?
It's pretty much all over southern Wisconsin now, so I'm sure she is. Sarv should be getting some too, which will help a lot while she's "vacationing" (read that as doing the same work you do at home under less convenient conditions).
I'm an idiot. Bought a whole flat of petunias for $5 because they were on sale..................!
M5, so what's wrong with that? I love petunias and they make such nice border annuals.
Molly
:^)))
$5.00 was a very good price for a whole flat.
