Coffee and...Part 21...! :-D

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Meezer, good for you, I would give up just about anything for the blessed rain. It has not rained hard here, just steady. We still haven't gotten as much as we need, but every little bit helps. Think I'll was the car again tomorrow!!, plan a picnic, wash windows, plan to hang the laundry on the line, what other activity brings rain?

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Make jam or jelly, it hates humidity, get a perm, (Need a volunteer. I gave them up) uhh wash your outside windows, air out a mattress,
take a ride in a convertible.......

Dug in about 6 out of the flat of 'toonies, that rain didn't soak down very far, hoping for more. I do love them, they are so enthusiastic and easy to grow. Esp. like the wave variety, but the ones I put in earlier aren't doing much.

Leftovers for dinner!!! Houseguest is being on his best behavior...so far.

Starkville, MS

Water your plants! Again and again.....

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Good Morning everyone!

D.cat...so sorry to hear about your friend. I can only offer a ((( ~Hug~))) to help you and your friend's wife get through what must be a terrible ordeal.

M5!!! You got Rain!!! Super! I'm so happy for you. The system cut through the south part of the state 2 countys to the east of us. All we got was a few wispy clouds to break the incessant glare of the sun. Nary a drop here. And looking at the jet stream flying off into Canada, it doesn't look like there's much possiblility for moisture in the near future either. Maybe by the middle of next week...until then, I'm just glad I have water in my well to share with my flowers. ;-)

This lack of rain is really taking its toll on the farmers in this area. My yard is terrible but I really feel for badly for them. Flowers are just my hobby...the corn and alfalfa crops are their livelihood. :-(

Mary, I hope you had *the* most wonderful birthday ever! And I still can't believe you're older then me! (You GO, girl!)

Hi Blooms! I forgot to tell you "Glad to SEE you!" When you got back from your trip. And that's a great photo you posted, too! (Love those hats!)

Kooger, I'm tickled pink that your basement is DRY! I still can't figure out how you've gotten rain...hehehe...guess you're a lot further south than I thought.

Oh! I also forgot to tell my friends in FL how happy I am that they are safe and sound for the moment. It looks like the next storm is on the horizon already...with several more right behind.

Well, there's not much going on here. Guess I'll go out and take survey of the daylilies and shasta daisies. I think I need to make sure there are MORE of those kinds of plants in my garden. They seem to stand up pretty well to drought conditions (*and* gardener neglect!).

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

No rain Julie! We had some more last night, t-storms rolled through about 3:30 am, and now it 's just misty, but more storms expected this afternoon. First thing I did this morning was turn on the weather channel. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny, but who knows.

FL people were saying this wasn't nearly as bad as Ivan, but as you said, there are more developing already. I saw a USA Today item that said they expect multiple storms this year, again. I have a good friend near Ft. Meyers, and they don't get much of anything, being on the west coast of FL.

DS and DIL are flying off to Oregon this afternoon, so I get to go and feed their two kitties, who are always delighted to see me. I don't know that they would be so jolly if I didn't fill their bowls.... (And yes, this is the same DS who wanted to "borrow" some $$$ for a down payment, which I gently denied. LOL) Today's children. tssssk.

Think I'll go out and stick some more petunias in the ground. And maybe pull a few weeds. Have a good day, all.

There's baking powder biscuits on the counter, and jam and honey. Made breakfast for the 'boys' this morning, but not going to be here for lunch.... have a great day....

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Oh, fresh biscuits with honey! Thanks!!!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

M5...I'll definitely take one of those great looking biscuits and jam! Yummy! (Hey...I found you over in the DL forum! Imagine that! LIFE outside the 'Coffee and...' room. hehehe Do you think I've had my head OUT in the garden for TOO long? hehehe)

~julie~
(who is going to get dressed...go get in her 'new' car (yep! got it fixed. And would you believe not a single 'grumble' from the DH - another 'Imagine that' scenerio (hehehehe)) and I'm going SHOPPING for the first time in a year and a half *without* DH!!! I'm really only going to the Ace Hardware in town to get more soaker hoses...but it *is* alone!)

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Waiting for the toasted walnuts to cool enough to mix into the Lemon Pepper Biscotti batter. should be ready about tea time.Had to zest a couple lemons and used a microplane for it. What a great invention. It zests like nobody's business and grates parmesan beautifully. On the downside it zests fingers if one is the least bit careless. After the cookies are out its off to work on the arbor lattice, water the plants and get the small portal pattern ready for inking. Ai'nt life grand! (most of the time). My dear friend is back in Costa Mesa after a wonderful visit here for the week. She showed us how to make the Biscotti and some tasty crostini.Time to check the walnuts. Everyone have a great day.

I LOVE my microplane. I love how it easily it zests and does parmesan. Have never shredded my fingers but came close. Not so lucky with my mandoline!

The lemon-pepper biscotti intrigues me. Is the recipe proprietary, or available?

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

mmmm. waiting on the biscotti here.
There's a bathtub in my kitchen.

after moving the hose connections, and checking out the newbie bed, which my watering girl took such good care of, looking all over for the back & forth sprinkler, found it, it's doing it's thing on the far yard..... I am soaking with my own sweat....

I _MUST_ get out there before the sun is up so high. Even if I have to set the alarm clock! 9:30 is too late to be going outside. It's already 91* out there, headed for 108* again today. I was enjoying the cool inside temps and just being happy with my coffee and the weather channel... and suddenly it's 'late'.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Robert that biscotti sounds deee-light-fulllll. I've got my tea (iced) ready to go when the biscotti's done. (Oh, yummy! And please *do* pass on that recipe if it's not a 'secret', ok?)

Blooms...I don't envy you that 108 temp in the least. I don't know how hot it is here but all I have to do is walk out the door and I'm soaked.

Well...I got my soaker hoses, but I'm thinking I just should have saved the money and *walked* through the gardens instead. Do you suppose sweat counts as "moisture" to flower beds? LOL

Here's a pic of "Grandma's 'new' car". Now tell me, do you *really* think *this* old granny needs to be driving it? (It was fun, though! hehehe)

~julie~

Julie, that's a pretty "hot" car for a Grannie... I'd watch out for speeding tickets, LOL.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

LOL...You're *absolutely* right, Darius! But I'm more concerned about speeding tickets when my DH drives than for me. hahaha (I had a hard time going over 30 mph in it this morning. It's so darned LOW that I felt like I was flying! :-D)

~julie~

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

It looks like it's doing 40 - sitting still

Verona, ON

Julie - it is not menopausal red? That's what my doc called my play toy. 95 Mustang GT Convert - 5 on the floor - last of the big motors.
Maybe we should have a roundup of all our older 'ladies" who have hot cars? Darius - your truck would be included.
Dianne

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Dianne, my truck would hardly "qualify" for HOT... It's a 1992 Nissan, smallest motor they ever made, doesn't even have a radio, or a button on the passenger door to turnon the overhead light, LOL.

Really an old ladies' vehicle that can barely make it up the mountain, and certainly not in 4th or 5th gear!

Just heard from the recipe holder and she said share it so here 'tis:

and on the back of the page: edited to say, I don't grease and flour anymore when I can use Parchment or the new no-stick aluminum foil.

Julie88, I want a granny car too!! That is a great looking "ride" as the young ones say. I would have a speeding ticket the first time out. Had to go to Dr today. Been having problems with my right arm. Feels like it's asleep. Having trouble typing or writing. Orthopaedic Dr thinks it's carpel tunnel. Going for a EMG on the28th. That's all I need now. Just had surgery on my thumb that put me out of commission for 6 months. Oh, well, at least DH will get more practice at dish washing. I have a dish washer, but don't put pots and pans in there. Went to funeral home tonight for visitation. Funeral tomorrow. This does not seem real! This was sudden, an aneurysm (spelling?) He died during surgery. My whole week has been supporting, cooking, feeding, consoling and a shoulder to cry on week. I hope I am lucky enough to have someone "there for me". Well, I am having lunch with 2 friends on Friday, so that will lighten the mood. Then DGD will be back on Sunday night. School starts August 10, and I think I will be glad this year, when school starts. Love her dearly, but I am having trouble keeping up this year. Will post again, late tomorrow.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Woohoo JULIE What a car!! Can I have a ride, huh, can I , huh??? We could caravan across the state, with my fire engine red '69 Mustang 'vert, ......anyone else got something flashy to join us with? I love that color blue. That was the color my other 'vert was that DH traded for this one. And I do suggest that you buy one of those little laser/radar units to clip on your sun visor. It sort of reminds you to check the speedometer once in a while. It won't take you long to get used to hitting the speed limit. What fun!! And you've got home grown mechanics to keep it humming.

Robert you outdid me with the Biscotti, gonna try the recipe, when it cools down. Those biscuits came right out of the Bisquik box!!

Dcat, i put everything in the dishwasher...and if it doesn't get clean, it gets run through another cycle! Little hard on the glassware but mine isn't fancy so I dont care. I loathe washing dishes. Come to think of it, I loathe housework. I need elves or brownies or whatever comes in the dark of night and does all that boring repetitive cleaning, etc. leaving me free to cook, make messes, ignore dust, and spend my time in the garden, or with my nose in a book.

And with that lovely fantasy in mind, I'm going to bed. sleep tight all.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

I'm in the category with Darius, I just pushed my poor little 4 cylinder Subaru Sta Wagon [cira 1987] clear across the country. - She does not go up hill in 5th and does not manage mountains even in 4th... Still we made it there and back.

M5, please give number to call for elves that do housework.. boy have I got a job for them.

I ate some of the bisquick biscuits while waiting for the biscotti... tasted terrific to this lady who doesn't bake -period- Of course, there was plenty of room for the biscotti when it got done.

The bathtub is still in the kitchen. I can't believe no one jumped on that statement yesterday. Must get outside now, while it is only 72* out there.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

What a PITA!!! I was just about finished writing a long post, hit the wrong key and the whole IE closed down on me. Grrrrrrr (It was my own fault...just wish I'd sent the dang thing TWICE instead of losing what I spent 1/2 an hour writing.)

Oh Well...It went something like this:

Good Morning Everyone!

Blooms...I hope it doesn't look like 40mph to the cops. Did you see the speed limit sign in the background? LOL (First ticket for standing still!)

Dianne..."Menopausal Red!" LOL (I'd written a *much* longer response to your comment but it was so spontaneous I can't remember what I said...I do remember it was funny though. hehehe

Darius...your truck is FAR more appropriate for ME and my taste, trust me. As long as a vehicle gets me from point 'a' to point 'b', shuts off, starts, and gets me home again...it's *my* kind of car. hehe

Robert...thanks for that recipe! And thanks to your 'source' for sharing it with us.

Dcat...((( ~hugs~ ))) I know this must be a really tough time for you. You're a terrific friend. And as such, there will be 'friends' there for you when you need them the most. I hope you're not in for another surgery but if you are, don't *worry* about the dishes! ~grin~ They'll wait until you can tackle them...trust me. LOL Think about it this way...maybe you'll be eating out a lot so there won't be anything but coffee cups to put in the dishwasher anyway.

M5! A '69 'stang convertible! Now *that's* my dream car! How about I let you drive mine and I'll drive yours? LOL

Blooms...The reason I didn't come back at you with the bathtub in the kitchen is that I spent one Thanksgiving with the *real* toilet sitting in the middle of my kitchen! LOL (AND it was the *only* working toilet in the house!) My situation came as a result of a DH that was ripping out the entire interior of the house (at the same time!) for remodeling. Now...tell me...what's YOUR excuse? ROTFLOL

DH just came in with a handful of Red Raspberries. The first to arrive on our first year canes! I thought they only bear fruit on second year canes? Whatever...they're super delicious. Try one!

Well it's already hotter than hades outside and twice as humid. I'd better get out there and lay out another soaker hose before I have 'refried' (castor) beans in that back island bed.

See y'all later!

~julie~

(Hi Sarv! (Even if you can't see this...) Hope you're having a GREAT vacation!)

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Julie, same reasoning here. Remodeling. There is NO bathroom. well, there's a room. LOL

the tub in the kitchen is the new one which arrived but couldn't be put in place until new 2x's were put in between the studs at the level of the top of this tub. It's taller than the average... a special 'soaking' tub for those times when I soak and read for lengths of time. At this point, I'd settle for just taking a shower.

Also put in place more of those 2x's at the right level to support the hand rails around the tub area. ~Blooms

|Whew, BloomswithaView, I thought that this might be a new trend in decorating. Was already imagining how I could place a tub in my kitchen and still have room to work. Although it might create entertainment and diversion when doing boring (chopping, kneading) chores. Still overcast and misting rain here. Hey no complaints, its moisture!! Well have to get started, my dear little Jack Russell evidently got bored last night, as he shredded a shoe for me. He's never done this before. Also my cat cleared every table in the family room, knocking over pictures and emptying ash trays on the floor. So now to clean up the messes. And maybe give refresher courses in Animal Behavior 101.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Chopping and kneading in the bath tub......hmmmmm, something to think about.......

D'cat, see what you are in for, for 3 days, my bawdy sense of humor

:^)))

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Wish I could be there too

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Well, Blooms... one of my friends was married to a Navy cook.... he cooked for the big carriers. Natch it was in large quantities. Well, on a home leave, he made a bathtub full of jello. She told me they had fun "playing" in it, LOL.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

belly laugh here

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Tub full of jello...Oh the mental picture THAT produced! ROTFLMAO (Blooms...is *that* really what you had in mind? hehehe)

Back out to lay some more soaker hoses. The hardware store is getting ALL of my money this week. ;-) Next week it'll be the electric company for all the water pumping I'm doing. :-(

~julie~

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Blooms, I thought you'd get a laugh out of that "bathtub" story!

Julie... can't we "see" her now? LOL!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

MollyMc, I was thinking more of someone else in the tub, with me in the kitchen cooking. Does that mean I'm a vouyer? Now to find a good candidate to put in that tub. DH would be absoultly mortified. Although that tub of jello doesn't sound bad either!! Bawdy sense of humor, can't wait. My humor is more the "dry kind" sometimes it goes over people's heads until it finally dawns on them that it was humor!! Sound like the three stooges will be unleashed on the KyRU!! (Don't take offense Darius)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

No offense taken... my humor is rather dry too!

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Bonnie,

You got it all backwards. YOU get in the tub, leave the cooking to your dh.....ah, I better shaddup before I get in trouble.....

:^)))

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Wouldn't that be where the jello would come in?

Here's tub in its glory

Back out to move water to apricot tree and lilac

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

Make the 4 stooges at KYRU...don't forget me....I'm the small, silent type - HA! Think of me as Harpo - LOL - and anyone who knows me knows better than that.

Let's see - I think my nickname in grade school was motor mouth......;-)

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

BB: I was Molly Mouth. I thought that was my middle name for the longest time.......

:^)))

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, when I small, (pre school days), I have a twin sister, and I would make her do all my talking for me. Come to think of it she still does!!LOL. In high school, I was a cheerleader, but still the silent type when not cheering, but by golly, somewhere along the line someone turned my talking switch on, and have been going fast and furious ever since. Love good conversation (I can be serious too), and especially a good joke. DH hardly ever smiles at my quips and jokes, but secretely I think he appreciates them.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Julie - farther south? we're just below Sioux Falls, SD. lol

Had a bit of catching up to do - haven't been on DG since Tues. Wow - two whole days! pretty much read everybody's posts. Belated Happy Birthday to Mary!!!

Glad we had no casualties with Mr. Dennis!

Good news - had another survey test today - got a 92% Yipee!! Would have even got higher but I was too nervous and hit the panic button on one call - not literally - just did one step wrong and instead of sending the signal for a mistake, I just kept going. Oh well, I was happy with my score. Had a typing test too - accuracy and speed - averaged out to 82 wpm. Pretty satisfied with that too.

DD talked me into doing water aerobics with her - started last night - sore muscles today!! I'm trying to get rid of some fat - at least 20 lbs. I figure if I start small, maybe I'll succeed, then go for another 20 and then another and another. That would about put me at the right weight for my short bones. Ha Ha! dreams, dreams......

Biscotti looks good, great car, what else did I read about? I forget already ... Anyway, hi to all and always glad to read everyone's posts. Darius - still breathing ok? in...out...in...out... etc. :)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Yeah. Laura.. I'm still breathing in.. and out! (and plan to keep on doing that!)
