Safe travels Betty.

So sorry Debbie. Hugs.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sending gentle hugs Deb. My heart is with you.

Lyndonville, NY

I should have clarified, but the deaths are not close to me. Acquaintances to me mostly, neighbors family etc. However DHs cousin Jess I have met just a few times, but he used to baby sit her and her sisters. We saw her at MILS funeral in March and thought she was beating this.

Tomorrow will be painting day. The "patching" is not drying well as too much humidity and still a chill in the air at night. SO we have fans blowing in the dining room hoping to help. I will paint all the trim we pulled off and hope to get that up after all is done.

Rest well everyone

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Prayers and hugs for those in need.... just stopping by before bed. Been busy and needed to catch up.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, out of here by 7
Although a safe drive a long drive, we left 2 hrs earlier than planned and got here 2 hrs later due to construction..in cincinatti we sat 1 1/2 hrs. So we are moving slower than usual.

Heading to Loretta Bourbon Distillery then on to Nashville..have a 4pm hillbilly tour so hope we don't run into more construction which they tend to work weekends..so crossing fingers.

Am sure greg and Mel are rushing about at the airport as they fly out at 9am for Newfoundland.

Sorry about the deaths debbie and the woes re construction

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Popping by while I am still standing upright !!
We have a heat warning here ..... and, of all days, we have a family party, 40th wedding anniversary, to attend. DH brother and SinL .. it's on Lake Superior, but, there is NO breeze anywhere. The drug I take for arthritis knocks me flat out in the heat. This could be interesting ....

Hope Betty is doing well on the trip ..

HI to everyone

Hot Weather Has Arrived In Thunder Bay
40C = 110F !!

Posted on Saturday, July 29, 2017 06:48 AM

We truly have some hot summer weather upon us now in Thunder Bay.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning, with the humidity reaching 40 today and tomorrow.

There is greater risk for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illness and those working or exercising outdoors.

And remember to never leave a pet inside a parked vehicle.

This weather could continue into Monday, with a cooler stretch expected Tuesday.

Alerts for: City of Thunder Bay

Warnings

5:09 AM EDT Saturday 29 July 2017
Heat Warning in effect for:
•City of Thunder Bay

Humidex values reaching 40 are expected.

Hot and humid conditions are expected today and Sunday.

The maximum daily temperatures today are forecast to reach 30 degrees Celsius or greater. The minimum overnight lows range from 16 to 18 degree Celsius, although this is a couple of degrees lower than the warning criteria of 18 degrees, the day time highs on Sunday will again reach 30 degree Celsius or above, which only gives a very brief relief of the heat on Sunday morning.

Current forecast guidance suggests that the hot and humid conditions could persist into Monday for some areas. A cooler airmass is expected to move into the area by Tuesday.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

When it's hot eat cool, light meals.

Keep your house cool. Block the sun by closing curtains or blinds.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

YUCK! We've actually had a really good weekend. This is Boat Race weekend and the locals usually go elsewhere.... ANYWHERE elsewhere! 10's of 1,000s of people come for it and it's a nightmare. At least now it's not as much of a drunken nightmare since they really cracked down on alcohol in the park etc.

There's a light breeze out there and for the most part the boat race crowd will be as comfortable as you can be in 95 degree weather. We have VERY little humidity.

DH Ben had a really bad night, it's 8.30 and he's sleeping soundly. His alarm did not wake him at 7AM in order to go to church, he slept right thru it. I gave up at 2 AM trying to get any sleep sharing the bed and moved to the living room. Phantoms, knee & shoulder pain had him thrashing most of the night.

I would be tempted to sneak a nap in on son's bedroom if I had not told my dad I would bring him lunch. I don't want to risk sleeping thru that. Might as well try to get something productive done.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

WOW! "M", that is really hot. Stay cool.

Sorry to hear your hubby had a bad night pat. Hopefully you get some rest tonight.

Victoria Harbour, ON

evening all, taking an hour to put my feet up before going out for supper at the aquarium..

Holy what "M" that is some temperature, here I am in Nashville and they are having a cool day, its90 right now, so much lower than you..hopefully there is a breeze off the lake and your meds don't do anything crazy!

Pat, here is hopening Ben has a better night tonight

Busy day today, had a lovely day, having an hour with feet up then off to aquarium for supper.

Did the general Jackson showboat dinner cruise, entertainment and meal was great..then to the Gaylord hotel

Yesterday we did tour of a Bourbon Distillery, was quite impressed, over 2 million worth of blown glass on the premises..even got to get a bottle of bourbon for Paul and dip it with the wax

Disappointed about our night on music row, was Nashville beer fest and a soccer event, couldn't move but enjoyed our redneck tour

On the general Jackson there was this lady, I kept looking at her, she had such an aura, a true real beauty to her..I finally went to her and said I just had to tell her how beautiful she was..she started to cry..came to my table later, said she had been unwell, not feeling good about herself and how the comments meant so much to her..made me feel good

Thanks for sharing the pictures. YES, we both had a much better night. Back to work tomorrow, darn it!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Just home from camping in the forested area of Kananaskis - Loved it!!
We saw a grizzly bear, by the side of the road!!! We were driving down the road when a young woman stopped our car, saying she and her friend were walking their dog when they came across a grizzly. The young man scooped up the dog and she flagged us down. We passed the grizzly on the other side of the bike path they were on - less than 20 ft from us, eating buffalo berries. It was red tagged on the ear, to designate it was a "trouble" bear! We reported it to the Conservation Officer right away. It was only 1/2 mile from a campground & "Trading Post"!
We couldn't have campfires, due to the Fire Ban because of the fires in BC.
We really enjoyed our camping trip, and Susan is looking forward to returning next year to go again! We had marvellous weather - no rain except for 1 minute and clear skies for views of the stars at night. Didn't take a lot of pictures, but took important ones
We're having our Christmas dinner on Thursday, so have lots of baking & decorating to do :-)

I realize you may not see the bear clearly, but it's at the bottom of the 1st picture, and it was, at most, 20 feet away from us busily eating the buffalo berries.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Great photos Susan .. Grizz scare the beejebers outta me, feel bad about the dog ..

Lots going on here .. not all bad, just kinda stressy, Lord knows, how would be evolve without stress !!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Susan, bear was too close for comfort

"M" watch that stress, do something nice for yourself today..

Pat, don't work too hard

Stayed the night in Montgomery Alabama, few things to see in the area so we did a bit of sightseeing in 93+ temps.

Dropped into hank Williams museum, state capital, 1st White House of the Confederacy, Martin Luther Kings Dexter avenue church, was closed but 2 women let us in and gave us a tour, marvellous of them..so much history, sat in the chair in Martin Luther King's office and thought of all that he worked on while there, also did state building

We are packed up, New Orleans here we come.

Sounds like you are having a GREAT time

M, "He scooped up the dog", the woman's friend was the "he", not the bear.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, looks like you are enjoying your trip so far. Please drive safely.

Susan, that bear is too close for comfort. I am glad everyone is ok.

"M", I hope your days settle down soon, and you can get stress free soon.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

I swear .. if I had NO stress I would be lost ....
Lorna is having 'issues' ... in order for her to have 2 dental extractions, she has to go into hosp 2 days in a row and have 2 units of gamma globulin infused to bring up her platelets .. normal is around 140,000 .. Lorna's are at 51,000 ..so .. the infusions have to be coordinated with the dental surgeon .. AND .. her knee MUST be replaced, the logistic around that are just as poopy ...
And, so it goes ..

Nice pics Betty .. it's almost 98 here ... LAST day for it :-)

Pat, thanks for that, I envisioned horrible things !!

~M~

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Love the photos, Betty!! Looks like you're having a great time!

M, I feel bad for Lorna and all she is going through. What is causing her platelet count to be so low? Can they not "fix" that?

Deb

Victoria Harbour, ON

Evening all,

Sitting in a private little garden off our suite here in New Orleans..remember I spoke to a young lad and cried he old lady blues a few months ago when I booked it, well didn't he give us a suite..keep feeling out of place in it.

Swam in the ocean all afternoon then headed here, Lordy must say water was warmer than a tub..got here about an hour ago, had my bath, sitting outside while gals are washing salt off then out for supper and walk around, maybe a bit on bourbon street..off to lafitte tomorrow for airboat adventure.

"M" sorry Lorna is going through so much, problems even getting teeth out, horrible.

Girls want me in so gab in a bit

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Pat - thanks for the clarification on the "scooping".I edited the post so it's more understandable! "I" knew what I was saying lol

Betty - sounds like you're having a Great time! So happy to hear it :-)
~M~ what IS happening for Lorna's platelets to be So low? That's less than half!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Glad your health is holding up Betty and that you and the girls are having a great time. Wonderful photos.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Morning .. :-)

Lorna has a blood disorder involving her clotting .. called .. ITP, as well as Factor V to go along with it :-( That combo caused the clot that necessitated the amputation of her left leg. She is on warfarin for life .. ergo .. any invasive procedures are not just 'done' .. which is why I get a bit frantic if she falls ..

Enjoy your time away Betty ... the heat and humidity DID break here .. happy happy bout that .. can now ENJOY being outside !!

Off to the hosp in a bit so Lorna can get her cortisone shot .. ( OW ) !!

Hugs

~M~

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sending prayers for Lorna this morning. Lord she had been through so much. Has Kerry been replaced yet?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

geeze - poor Lorna - adding my prayers to the circle. Send her some gentle hugs from me too.

Place is decorated, now........ to do the baking. Our Christmas dinner is tomorrow at 5pm. Looking forward to it!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

As always, thank you for your kindness re Lorna .. the cortisone shot is a 50/50 shot .. sometimes it's more effective, sometimes not ..
The surgeon is still not ready to talk surgery with her .. it is going to be a big deal ..

Barb, how are you and Norm dong? Keeping you in my prayers each night.

Susan, MERRY CHRSTMAS :-) Enjoy your visitor ..

LK .. how's your hip doing?

Karen, saw the pics of your 3 redheaded Grands .. OMG are they growing or what , beautiful as is Lolli :-) ...

Sharon .. how's your toe, and, how is Vern ....

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

We have the tree decorated, and our home (mostly - not all the decorations are out, but a lot are). We have a wreath for the deck and white "icicle" string of lights. Susan heads back on Saturday afternoon. She starts back to work on Monday, which gives her a day to relax back home.
We've been baking all day - mincemeat pie, cherry pie, sugar cookies, patterned shortbread, and still have whipped shortbread and honey-butter tarts to make

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

"M", my hip is doing so good. I am so glad I had that surgery.

Betty, please don't over do it.

Merry Christmas in July Susan.
