Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Home from shopping .. holy cow .. it is COLD here !!
DH was going to put the heat on, but, thought better of it .. after all, yesterday was 104F !
I hope this comes your way Betty .. Lorna's Dad is suffering in the humidity with his breathing :-(

Had a cauliflower in my hand today, then looks at the price .. $5.25 !!!!! AND .. because we tend to be WASTERS .. I put it back, I always have every good intention of using something up, and I don't !!

Raining right now ..

Send the cold and the rain my way "M"
Keep going out and moving the hose, almost not worth it as the plants are all dried up, losing battle for sure.

Woke up with a sore throat, just had neocitrin, probably nap..expected when it's cold outside, then high temps add a/c being on,well how can one help it.

What are you all doing while stuck inside?

Deb did you see the new pets mart commercial, thought you would like to see it..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Tried to find it online, didn't find it..had a furry like yours and like Sharon's

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Not doing much inside, one can only dust and clean so much.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yep, that is why I'm finding the couch so often...not getting much dust inside, think all the dust has hardened to clay..doubt some spots you would get a shovel into it.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds like our ground. It literally takes a jackhammer to dig here. That is why so many gardens are raised beds.

Victoria Harbour, ON

"m" looks like you are sending rain my way..lets hope it doesn't pass me by and end up on Dianne's doorstep..think she has had rain recently.

no Betty all of rain has bypassed us. The farmers are just tearing the hair out. I bet Holland Marsh people are just sick. I am sure they have crop insurance but I know they wanted to harvest all of their crops

Need to see if I have something to eat. There's lots there but probably nothing I would eat.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just watchin Barrie news Dianne, they say we are bound to get a few drops so let's hope.
Actually I looked at the gardens when passing holland landing on Sunday and they looked quite lush..they have watering systems in place and with the river maybe it's just enough to keep the gardens alive

I had left over Swiss chalet, hope there is some think hiding in your refrigerator you can munch on.

Off to take another neocitrin

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hope everyone is feeling better. Get rid of your colds, and aches & pains, please. Praying for good health for al.

One part of the deck is dismantled, and so is most of our den. Tomorrow they will finish the den, and the porch. This means that the deck underneath them will also get dismantled. They did a "dump run" and it only cost $25 for the old drywall. Not bad, eh?
I posted what was left of the garage sale stuff, online, and some of it is being picked up tonight, and tomorrow, and Friday.
We're sleeping in the RV, because the bedroom is filled with boxes and items that will be left in, during the home move. Crowded a bit. :-D

Victoria Harbour, ON

Don't know if I could have gone through all those moves and live through those situations, know I couldn't....lets hope this is your last move and it goes.without mishap.

doing more watering

WHOA .. big TStorm started up here around 4am .. had Piper and Zoey on board in bed with me .. still raining here, but, the boomers have stopped, supposed to re appear later this morning ..

Like Betty .. I have to hand it to you Susan .. I sure couldn't have handled all the stress of moving so many times .. going to be nice being in Torrington, fresh chapter for you ..

HAD plans for today, but, if there are TStorms on the way again, the dogs need to be cared for .. Lorna is home for the day as well ..

Take care

~M~

Verona, ON

Good morning everyone. Counting the sleeps for you Susan.

It got to a low of 77 overnight. Air is heavy and there is a heat warning out. I went out early this morning to pick up the dogs messes. Can hardly wait to see what the temp is later this afternoon. NO RAIN again. Some people with shallow wells are getting nervous. They will probably have to buy water. It comes in a truck very similar to the propane truck.

Feeling like I should stay inside today to sort and shelve some books.Santa Warren was the keeper of the books. He had a system and all the books were organized by author. I have managed to completely make a mess of that. My goal is to get the books off of where I have them and up onto a shelf.

Its interesting Betty that you saw fields doing so well at Holland Marsh. I saw 2 different news clips of farmers in the area almost in tears showing the corn or lack of....... 1 cob will be perfect and the next one has little or no kernels .any.They must be just on the border of the HM

Stay cool and hydrated.

Almost missed your post M. I find I have to scroll up as posts I didn't see before I posted are there. M didn't you have the same complaint?

Hope Lorna is able to stay cool today but I doubt it. That girl should get danger and courage award.'

Morning,

Up and at it, worked outside for a bit, says we will have a 90 feels like 102 kind of day..says maybe a few sprinkles of rain, we will be blessed if we do and I thank you "M" for sending it my way.

Perhaps Dianne they have a watering system closer to highway 400 and that is why it was lush..know they lost many crops last month due to hail as large as snowballs.
Do you keep all of your books or do you give them to senior homes, libraries etc. The amount you read you must have quite a collection, would need a room for a library.

Think I will take Dianne's lead and do some organizing in the craft room, need snowmobile suit when working down there, just so cold brrrr if I turn it down to be comfy then it's too hot upstairs so it's play with thermostat all day long.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

I just put a banana bread in the oven so as NOT to have to turn the FURNACE on ..
I's 63F here .. !!!
Misting out, but, getting darker by the moment.

Dianne, I have books here, there and everywhere .. DH has bought book shelves which are burgeoning with HIS reading materials .. guns, coins, rifles all sorts ..books on ships and railroads, steam engines, World Wars, fighter planes .. he has many and varied hobbies .. I cook LoL

Lorna is just talking with her folks .. her Dad is NOT well .. breathing is poor, legs are swollen .. he sees his doctor tomorrow, HOW her Mom will get him there is a real worry .. Mom is 87, Dad is 88 .. and, BOTH are STUBBORN, or shall we say overly INDEPENDANT !!
I think he has congestive heart failure along with his COPD :-(
Keep your fingers crossed and your prayers said .. thanks ..

DGD is STILL AWOL .. sick about it, Murray is fit to be tied ..

Life is just so darned interesting .. NOT!!

Betty I give books away to people if they even look sideways at them lol I have wall to wall to the ceiling book cases downstairs. There are books everywhere. Those aren't my only book cases. I even have some in the bathroom. Habit left over from Warren when was with me. I am a strong believer in sharing books with others. So if it is a book I really like and will read again I have a spot for them. There is a 'wee' used book and video store in the village. I walked in with 2 huge bags of books and the poor owner just blurted out "I can't buy all of those." I said no worries these are a gift to you. She broke into tears.I told her if I came in and saw something I was interested in reading that was enough payment for me.Let me just say this village is not full of readers. I give my large print books to a friend who has macular degeneration.

That's what I was thinking too Betty.about the watering systems in the fields. The first year I taught it was a Grade 8 and if you wanted to go on a June trip you had to raise the money so everyone could go. The kids and I had a corn roast and dance plus parents were invited. Only problem was we had to buy corn. One of the fathers called me and said I could pick as much corn as I needed but space it out. He said Dole wouldn't miss a cob or 2 out of each row.The kids had a blast doing it. Party was a huge success and paid for a trip to TO from Bowmanville - bus , dinner at the Old Spaghetti
Factory plus tickets to a live show at Ed's theatre. I can't remember the name of the place.

LK you are probably laughing at we Canadians complaining about the heat With
the humidity it will be close to 100* in Kingston... wee bit cooler here.Probably mid 90"s.

Where's our Judy?

Going to read as close to 1 of the floor vents as possible. My 3 amigos have all claimed their vent.

Keep cool and remember to hydrate.

Sorry to hear that Lorna's dad is unwell..real concern for Lorna being so far away..
Mom,is,at the doctors this morning, sil Kim taking her..last 2 days she was here she said she was unwell, got home and right to bed, only up this a.m for her doctors apt.
Would Lorna try and fly if he were to get worse?

Dianne, loved the spaghetti factory, wasn't it near Ed Mervish's 'honest ed''?
That was some fundraising you did, bet kids just loved it. Kudos your giving books to those who love to read..girls here are always passing books around.

Well I've cleaned a few dresser drawers, did the corner stones as I call them for the other 3 my Canada quilts as well as an extra set..I've so much batique left from this project that I thought I might cut out another set of blocks and put a kit together..know someone who comes sewing Thursday night wanted to do one, if not oh well. Lol

June dropped in with write up, apparently municipality is having meetings re a seniors complex near the community centre, must make sure to attend that meeting..she was road running because her a/c is not working..what a time to go on the fritz..her hubby says he does better without a/c so why call a repairman. Lol

Just had another neocitrin so maybe it's nap time or if nothing else watch a few movies

Was thinking about what to take out for supper, thought maybe order from next door but that would mean getting dressed right?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I can't imagine being that hot in Canada. When I lived in Michigan, we complained about it when it reached mid 80's-90 degrees.
My Mom was a reader as well, and when she passed away, we took several truck loads of books to different nursing homes, and book stores, Gave them all away. The library refused them, said most were duplicates of what they had, and it would cost them too much to pay someone to sort them.
"M", sorry to hear about Lornas Dad. Keeping him in our prayers.

Dianne, Judy is in Sturgis, they went to see Ted Nugent in concert a few nights ago.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Judy is 'rockin on' :-)

Still raining here .. have made chicken and DH put together a garden salad from his garden .. looks amazing .. Lorna will be in heaven .. she doesn't have a 'hot meal' during the week .. but, her lunches are always filling ..

Flying and Lorna ..a BIG deal to be sure .. her handicap as well as her equipment would make it horrifying ..plus luggage etc ..
We would likely drive east if need be ..

NEWS .. DGD messaged her DAd through FBook .. she wants to come home .. so he will pick her up this afternoon .. don't know what will happen then ..

Still rainy and 63F

~M~

"m" great news about granddaughter, maybe that is what she needed to see life at home isn't so bad..hope Murray sets rules and make her understand that non compliance isn't acceptable.

Here I am, still in jammies, didn't even comb my hair, feeling the pits, wouldn't you know I'd get company...

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Jammies day here yesterday as well .. but I managed to make a banana loaf and some doggie cookies .. actually .. I baked to keep the house warm !

DH is off with his cronie friends to a gun show west of here by a couple of hours .. will be back on Saturday.

Morning all,

78 feeling like 95 kind of day, so feels like rain.but they say only a chance of rain so I've the sprinkler on, taking no chances..6am-8am/6pm/8pm even number days so trying to get the most out of my sprinkler.

Been taking meds, cold not getting worse, sore throat and swallowing the pits but feel I'm on the mend..enough to go to Barrie this afternoon...fabric shop is calling my name. Got a call to say my hand jig saw/router needs to be picked up, had forgotten about it. So will make a stop then on to Reitmans to look at fall clothes, then supper, there goes Friday..

Can't believe "M" you are cooking to get heat in the house, no happy medium this summer is there..bet Lorna is anxious to hear what doc has to say re her dad. This heat likely plays a factor. Nice that Gord gets. To spend time with cronies..he has been doing better with eyes and health issues? You will feel better when DGD is home and comes to visit..

I called mom last night to see how her doctor's appt went, she is full of infection, low iron,..doc will look after those issues but sending her for tests re blood she is coughing up.

Before she left she said she would love a fan like the one I've in my bedroom..ceiling fan with large wide blades, last night in Canadian tire flyer they have them on today for $59.99 ref $159.99 so if she doesn't have the energy to go get one I'll drop in and get one on my Barrie run..some good deals listed if you need what is on the 3 day sale...Susan, Dianne and "M" maybe you should check the flyer out.

I thought the Halloween scene was for a quilt! Is it a painting pattern? In any case, it is cute.........
Prayers for Lorna's Dad this morning. It has to be so difficult for her to be so far away. Hope she gets good news. Glad to hear that DGD is coming back home "M". That will be a load off your mind.
Hazy, hot and humid here right through the weekend. I had planned on staying in the whole weekend. Just got a message about a B-B-Q on Saturday for Brandon as he will be leaving to go back to school next week. Boy, that summer break went by so fast!!!! Can't believe he is a junior this year!!! And that Sean is a junior in high school!!!! Sure wish I could stop time from moving so fast.....
Off to do the machine. Hope all have a great day...

M - sorry about all the stress for Lorna, re: flying & leg...... how Very Frustrating
Glad to hear DGD is coming home. Tough Love is the best for this situation

Sorry, missing other posts, but know that I think of you all, often

Place is a mess - everything from sheds, porch, deck and den are in our main home, and can hardly walk without getting bruised. Hiding them lol I just bruise easily - nothing serious.
MOVING on MONDAY! yaaaaaaaaaay!! Can hardly wait. Sleeping in RV atm, cuz bedroom is stuffed to the rafters........

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not many more sleeps Susan,
Bet you will take a deep sigh of relief when the move is over.

Not up to working on anything, it's the couch and me but soon have to get dressed and go to Barrie

With finishing my 1st wedding quilt I'm thinking of doing them a little different so just ordered another pattern, I so like the richness of the one I just finished so contemplating doing this one in same colors

I like your colours best Betty ..
Just gorgeous ..

DGD did not come home .. DS is upset .. his wife took DGS and his friend to her parents cottage for the weekend .. Murray won't leave the house empty ..
DGD is alienating lots of people ..
My biggest fear is she turns up 'in the family way' !!
Quite nerve wracking all this ..

Haven't done much, am about to vacuum, then shower ..

Best of luck to you and Bob Susan ..

(((Murray,M and Gord))) Hard hard thing to experience.

Haven't done much of anything today. Not hungry but I have some cold meat I could make later.

So understand about your fear M. about your DGD ending up in the family way. A friend heard some noises upstairs in his house, walked up and there was his 15 year old in bed with his girlfriend.going at it.The first thing that came out of my mouth was 'I hope they were using protection'

I've got the heeby jeebys today. I hate when I get that feeling as something goes wrong somewhere or someone dies.

Sky has been threatening rain all day - nope. At dawn the sun was red.

Need to vacuum too.

Know where you are coming from "M" although I didn't have to worry about the coming home in the family way..know you are asking why, how did this happen?? That we will never know.

I find I rarely ask about Noah, mafraid og getting answers I don't want to hear...when I did ask Mel a few weeks ago and she said she was liking his job even doing overtime..when Kyle dropped in when mom was here she asked about him and Kyle said he just bought a boat and was out on the bay..so hoping he's moving in right direction, best we can do is pray and have hope.

Nerve racking for sure

Victoria Harbour, ON

Meant to add, rain passed me by, on its way to Dianne's I guess

Off to Barrie, could put it off until tomorrow but need a few things so might as well fill in Friday and have Saturday to do nothing...still resting after my trip

oh my, Marilynne - darn the way the DGD is playing on her parent's emotions..... they Will Do This though. Can't understand it, but they seem to think "it's all about me" don't they? Well, it's not, and it hurts people.... sometimes irreparably, too

Betty - I really like your version of the wedding quilt!! Gosh, that's beautiful!!!!

Bob's cursing a blue streak - a 5' x 4' board was nailed on with 3" nails - 43 of them! That's overdoing it a bit, don't you think? Not sure if you can see it, but here's a picture. We have some lads that are here every day (at least 2 and sometimes 3). Every day though, someone offers to help as well, but never show up. I don't understand why they would bother offering......?!?!?!

Sorry to hear your granddaughter did not come home. Sending prayers.
Betty, I love those wedding quilts.
Susan, you will be in your new place in just a few days.
I just got home from my hip Dr. And he said hip is doing very well. I go back in one year. Had to take a cool shower when I got home. I have hives around my chest and on my legs. Probably from the heat. I took a Zyrtec, and will crash soon.

Verona, ON

Wonderful news LK !! You did good as my dad would say.

Well it got to 42*C on the deck this afternoon and that was before the humidity was added in. It is very rare for us here in Ontario to have such heat for so long. If my mother was here she would say the summer of 1938 it was much the same. She was carrying my DB and DS and it was so hot she would wait until after dark then she and dad would go for a walk.

About 20 min ago we had oh 5 min of rain with 1 clap of thunder and that was it. Sure hope there is more rain tonight.

Long day for you and Bob tomorrow Susan. Did you hear on the radio or see in the paper that 89 Main Coon cats were rescued from 1 house. It sounded like they were trying to find people to come help with the rescue and also they were looking all over for crates. They are big cats much like the size of a smaller dog.

The rain came for all of 5 min with 1 clap of thunder - sure hope that isn't it. There was a fire this afternoon down Desert Lake Rd. Somebody is going to have a steep bill. Who ever it was will have to pay all the fees involved. We are under a complete fire ban. One of the young couples on the lane are leaving their 2 children at home most days. Hailey is 13 now and Kieran is 11. Their parents know I am home like 95% of the time so they can some to me if there is a problem. These are 2 wonderful kids who love the outdoors. Anyway Hailey came running down the lane saying there is a fire, there is a fire. I went outside and couldn't see or smell a fire. I called 3 people I know on Desert Lake Rd and no one was home. I asked them if they wanted to stay here but Hailey wanted to go back home. She is all worried her mom will not let them stay at home now. I told her I knew their mom would let them as she was very proud of how the 2 of them handled themselves

Sweet dreams everyone. I'm looking for Sharon's sleep angels.

Dianne and her TH.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I sure hope Thor kids are OK.
We had rain last night. Nice and cool 76 this morning. But it will heat up soon.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Oh happy happy days, it's raining, imagine being happy that it is raining on a weekend but I am..soft rain, just the kind we need..here is hoping it's an all day rain! Hope it breaks the heat trend..just shut off a/c and opened the back deck door

Great news Lindakay about not having to go back for a year, you must have done everything you were told to do..still have pain? Have you been thinking about. A trip to see dad now that you are cleared by Doctor.

It's wonderful Dianne that the children came to you, you could have had a disaster
should there have been a fire..see algonquin park had a fire the other day,
Think the age for babysitting is 12 now with having done the course so they are of age to stay alone, up to parents re knowing how responsible their children are..having you close by is a blessing.

Susan, Bob will have aches and pains after pulling those suckers out, overkill for sure.

Bought sewing supplies yesterday so this morning I shall put them away..might take a ride to midland Home Depot and pick up a plank so I can cut it in 2 or 3 sections, now that I picked up my new zip router I can do edges, stain and leave till I am ready to paint a fall project..

Drats, lull in the rain, hope it's temporary
