Propagation: Plant propagation part XIX based on my own ex
It is 75 here. We had a little (no more than a tease) rain. Just enough to wet the sidewalks not inder the trees.
I gathered some more JM seeds before the few drops fell.
Dave do you soak the JM seeds and straify them before planting?
I plan to send you next week all that I collect by next Wed morning. I am having cateract surgery next Thursday and want to make sure you get them.
I am sure JB is taking advantage of the break in excessive heat. I can just picture her in her GH. I bet she will be tired but happier than she was during her last post.
Jeanette .... I hope the new pressure tank does not break the bank.
Sharon .... more pictures please.
Speaking of pictures .... Dave's were very nice.
I love it when there is a picture to view.
LOVE YOU ALL
MARY
Hi:
Mary: You are in my prayers for your up coming surgery.
I will be away friday pm to sunday afternoon. Grand babies birthdays Caleb is 5 this last monday and Mercy will be 3. she has me wrapped around her little finger.
Next week is lots of activity. I have ground cloth to get set in place as well as shade cloth to help ease the water loss. I have to hand water the DL's every other day. Its been so nice having solitude with no teenagers to listen to and not any positioning to get each other in trouble.
stay cool ...here is a pic of Mercy ready for church. Her father is from Siri Lanka. Kim was funny when she asked her daughter what the odds were for a blond hair blue eyed baby were.....She just gave kim the Look "yea right"
Dave
Dave, I can see why she has you wrapped around her little finger. She is an absolute doll. So cute. You have fun and I know you are going to enjoy next week, even if it is a lot of work. Always nice to have good things done.
Mary, the pressure tank cracked the bank.
BTW, I was repotting the maple and decided I just could not twist those 2 Bloodgoods so took them apart and put them each in their own larger pot. They sure did have the roots.
Also, I am contemplating making a Bonsai out of the Crape Myrtle. It is the ideal shape. I was putting it in a larger pot and the more I looked at it, the more I decided that was the thing to do. Just to play with 'cause I have never done any of that.
Have any of you? I always really enjoyed looking at them and Bob and I went to a session where the fellow that owned the Japanese nursery in Seattle showed how it was done. I certainly would need more instruction than that but might be able to find something on the net. Will look.
Have a fun weekend Dave.
Hello all! I am finally feeling better. I planted more in the "Cottage Garden" border this morning and now it is getting too full. I will have to take some out when they get crowded, but it was looking like a landcaper came by instead of a gardener...yes I did have them spaced out quite well, but annuals will be coming out at the end of the season and the lavender will not stay in there as it is too shady, tho' part shade, as it does get hot direct sun. Still they will get too big for that space and I have another area where I want them, but the spot is not ready yet. Right now it is too hot to dig in that spot as it is nice and sunny...good for the lavender I want to pull out of the "White Flower Border" as well, as it really took over. I will be starting some hollyhocks, sweet william and foxglove from seed for this border. I will have to take a picture, but the light never seems to be right as it is light and shadow all day. (Good for the plants, though...)
I want plants in there that have larger white flowers and for sun/part sun location. It has most of the daisies from the former "White Daisy Garden" and I will be adding "Old Court" from Bluestone Perennials....I have white lilac, a little sweet woodruff, some strawberries (yes, white flowers) the birds eat the strawberries. I will probably put some bird netting over them next year...white peonies, dianthus, lily-of-the-valley and some callas. I had someone come and take out the lilac suckers and they took them home to plant. Hopefully they took. I will just clip off any more that come up as that shrub has been there for many years. Any suggestions?? (Nothing like gardenias, as I am allergic to them...)
Mary ~ I am glad your temps are better today...Yesterday we had 75°, but that lasted one day, with a low of 55°, instead of our usual 60°. I was not really able to take full advantage of yesterday's fine weather, but I did just water and fertilize. Today is better though warmer, as I accomplished planting as well as finishing up the fertilizing. I had some small misc. basil seedlings that I never planted out. Now I read that I was to wait until frost blackened the potato tops...no wonder they were so many small ones. Also I will plant them earlier, too. I have red, white blue and yellow potatoes. So the basil seedlings went in where the potatoes were pulled out. This spring I planted 8 Square Foot Gardens, after thoroughly sifting out the weeds and roots out of each bed. It took me quite a while, as I did it in between the storms starting in February with the peas and carrots in the first bed.
I hope that you like your new leaf shredder...it looks as though you were a careful shopper...good for you!
JB ~ Is it really cooler there too? If so, wonnnderful!! Have fun!
Jeanette ~ I hope that you like your hand held Shark steamer. Is it the one with the pads, or without? Oh, the pressure tank. We had to dig a well last year after we sold my mother-in-law's house as we shared that well for years. We lived there for a while when I was recovering from my surgeries. Those things are expensive, but still better than any city water, unless your well is not good. Ours is wonderful and deep. We no longer need a water softener to keep out the iron out of the water like before so it got donated. We don't have soft water, though...but less expensive and no salt and all to buy...etc...I should get some powdered water softener for the laundry, but I just never think of it, as the clother come out fine without it. Oh, BTW, thanks for asking...I am better today...I am trying not to overdo it, as I get my enthusiasm back once I get better...then sometimes setbacks occur.... just trying to find the balance...
Sharon ~ Yes, we all look foward to those nice pictures... You will be proud of me, as I am really doing a lot more mulching....it is coming along as I do a bit each day that I am able. I will take more pictures as I make more progress.
Dave ~ Are you still on that soapbox?? Yes, PayPal is convenient...oh, and thanks for all those new (to me) seed links...that is all I need...more seeds! LOL!!
Well, I must get back to work. Have a nice evening everyone.
Evelyn ^_^
This was taken August 6th.....
Evelyn, how about white phlox? It is about 18" to 2 feet tall. Very pretty and it blooms a long time.
Well, it rained today. Sure hope this isn't the end of our summer. They say it is suppose to be in the 90s next week, but I'll believe it when I see it.
No, my steamer doesn't have pads Evelyn. What would you use pads for? I asked everybody before I bought one, but nobody said anything so I just got one that had good reviews. I hope I like it too.
lol, Evelyn I will climb on the soapbox with Dave. I like Paypal because if there is a problem, as it seems more and more with ebay transactions, they will see that the buyer is taken care of. I think that is important for any site to succeed.
I don't remember the name of this DL. One my sister gave me last year. They sure grow fast don't they?
Jeanette, I had a feeling the pressure tank would be a major expense.
That is a terrific daylily! Please post pictures of the JMs in their new homes.
Evelyn, you said: “I have red, white blue and yellow potatoes” Please explain …. I am confused. So glad to hear you are feeling better today. I enjoyed the picture you took time to share.
I am for the most part a very frugal person. This is probably due to being divorced when my daughters were in their early teens and my pay was not so great for most of my teaching career. I do not use a credit card … I have a debit card. When I started teaching at the age of 34 teachers were greatly underpaid. My younger brother who only had an aa degree would say to me “I would not even turn over in bed for what you make.”
I am presently receiving a nice pension plus full social security …. P;us I have a decent nestegg which I do not need to touch. My house is paid for. I have full Blue Cross/Blue Shield medical coverage and a prescription plan paid for by the state of New Jersey. My full dental plan is $21/month (I have to pay for the dental).
Here is a picture of Ethel Buccola
I LOVE ALL OF YOU
MARY
Too much of a feast for my eyes guys. A Peter Pan Agapanthas just popped up, now, long after the rest. Isn't that odd?
Several others have not, but the bulb is there in a pot. Maybe I need to put them in ground. I got them at the SoCal RU.
Well Dawn, I was walking the front garden this morning and I have several little plants comings up and I thought of you. A couple of trees and other miscellaneous. I am going to let them grow a little bit more, then I will dig them up and send them your way. A free gift from Nevada to California. I think they will grow there and if they do not, they did not cost you anything except the effort of planting them.
Went to the nursery and they had nothing I would buy for my neighbors. I am hoping someone has something tomorrow.
I worked in the front landscape and just about died. I did not have the grove I had yesterday. I must have drank 5 gallons of water. I brought out a fan and music but it did not help. I did work for 4 hours because I am just down right stubborn. I just should not be such a fanatic that everything has to be done just my way. Me and Frank Sinatra. My DH hates that song. He calls it my theme song. But that was when I was younger. Now it is OK that I do everything.
Did not get the greenbelt photos taken. I will do it sometime over the weekend.
Dave, you work to hard but I know you love it. You weather is worse than ours.
Evelyn, I have attached a photo of a white flower for your white garden.
Merry, you have great benefits. Probably less than 10% of the public have those kind of benefits. Our home is free & Clear but our taxes are over $1000 a month and the utilities are close to that including the pool and landscape group. Our HOA is $280 a month so that God the house is free & clear. But we are frugal except for my plant passion. We do not eat out more than 10 times a year. I am a great cook and my DH would rather eat a home.
Well as I was typing that DH got up to get ready to go to bed and fell down. That is the second fall in two days. Nothing to drink so here comes another problem. So I must go with him to make sure he can get dressed for bed without falling down. Right now I am making him take his blood pressure. Later friends.
Photo is a Hardy Hibiscus name Blue River. No idea why it is name that because it is totally white. You would have to plant it in a pot and put it inside in the winter or take it out of the pot and store it.
Jnette, what do you use a pressure tank for?
Just checking in on the desktop because my large PC is down Friday the 13th is not my favorite day. Can not believe the day I have decided to start listing plants again, is the day the stupid PC would go down. Oh well., I have plenty to do before I get to that and with any luck maybe it can be fixed here instead of the Technician having to take it into the shop.
This is clean up day in the GH and inventory time. I have found a new outlet for some of my plants, now I need to decide do I want to go that route. It has taken me years to build up my online business and I hate to just leave it do down; But, I do not have the plants to do both. I need to keep the business going so I guess I may try the line of least resistance. These people want my starter plants for the holidays. I am just torn at the moment.
The rain never came except for one brief shower in the morning yesterday. Then again one brief shower in the afternoon but nothing measurable. We are irrigating trees today again.
I do not know how to act today. it is actually cool (like 80) and a great ocean breeze so I am off to the GH before it changes its mind. Yesterday I got all the Gardenias repoted, but now there are none in pots small enough to shipl.
These will also go to the Farm Market down the street if hey stay healthy. They are outside. Off I go to enjoy the cool weather and get somethings done at last. I was really tired yesterday but it felt good. Hope you are all well and pray this weather continues. I am so sorry for the people in Texas, they never seem to get a break. The midwest is still feeling it according to the TV this AM. Hugs. JB
.
JB ~ Good morning! I hope that your weather has improved. I had problems with my laptop before and had to ship it to HP for repairs. I did not buy the extended warranty so I had to pay for the repair.....after a fashion as when I first got it back it would not connect to the internet. They had to put in a new hard drive and the software was different. It was very frustrating as I spent hours with them on the phone. I suppose that landline connections are going the way of the past as mine is only $8.99 a month if I prepay it for a year, with PeoplePC. Last year the intro price was $7.99 a year. I got it to get away from Earthlink, and what do you know...Earthlink bought it! Well, at least the price is better and they do not charge us double if we are both on the internet at the same time.
When we move...that is sometime in the distant future, I think we will be going somewhere where they have high-speed internet. I do not like having to spend hours online when the things I want to do should just take a few minutes...especially uploading photos. If I have a lot, I have to take my laptop to the library to do it. That is what I did when I sold on ebay. I have not done that for over a year. I would like to be able to schedule the time but right now I am learning to grow things from seed and it seems to be taking all year. I want to fill our property with beauty...but it is taking time. and it would be so much more money if I had to buy all the individual plants from one gallon containers...
Sharon ~ That 'Blue River' hibiscus is absolutely gorgeous...did you say that was for me? Wow! Thank you SO much! The pressure tank has to do with getting water out of the well. The only problem is if you do not have a adequate backup generator is that when the power goes down, there is no running water. This usually happens to us every winter..but only for a short time. Last year it was down for a few days when we had that bad snow storm. It got down to 17°...brrr! Fortunately we had a good supply of wood and a very good wood stove. We also have a propane furnace, which is fine for most days in winter, but DH really likes the routine of building a fire every night as long as it is cold enough. We never have to buy wood as the limbs break off trees every year and he gathers and cuts them into small logs for our fires.
Mary ~ I will have to take a picture of the potatoes....Yukon Gold, All Blue, German Fingerling, I don't remember the name of the red one, but it just has a red skin...the blue one is all blue throughout. Have you ever seen blue potato chips? I will have to look up the Ronniger's order from the year before, if it is in the file. You can view them on their website. http://www.potatogarden.com . I did not know you were having an operation...they are never fun, but I hope that you recover quickly.
Well, I have some things that must be done before I go to town today...have a good weekend everyone. (Jeanette and Mary ~ Beautiful DL pics!)
My tomatoes are not yet ripe...since I had to plant so late...
Yes Sharon, Evelyn got it right. The pressure tank is a holding tank for water that has been pumped from the well. There you use the water direct from it for household use. Kitchen, toilet flush, watering my garden, etc. That tank has filled up with calcium deposits so it doesn't have much room for water. Therefore the well pump is running more than usual and could burn out if I don't get the tank replaced soon.
The plumber never showed up and I have been unable to reach him. He doesn't call me nor does he answer his cell phone. I hope he hasn't had an accident.
He was putting in a big swimming pool for a Russian family near here where they are building a 2 million dollar house. So, it was a big job for him and he was doing mine on the way home each day.
A big decision for you JB. Nice to have a choice though isn't it?
How is your DH today Sharon?
That is really cute Avia.
Evelyn, I have a couple of real good recipes for those little guys if you want. They are so good. I grab them whenever I find them in the stores.
ROFL That is an adorable cartoon. I know how that ear feels. LOL .
Today I got really dehydrated and boy I hate that. I got very confused and felt really strange. I quick took an asperin and a Xanax. As soon as I figured out what happened, I stated to drink water and it is slowly going away. Let me tell you, that is so scary especially when I get confused. I always think it is my heart but my BP is 127/80. so it is not HBP. I did not know what was going on and at my age you never know. The computer tech came in and he wanted to take me to the hospital but I declined and tried to rehydrate myself. It worked. I am feeling better but I am sleepy. This happened to me one time before from working out in the heat, this time is was because of not drinking enough water and taking fiber. LOL. So I have been drinking bottles of water and now all I do it you know what. You just can not win at my age. I just knew it had to be something like dehydration because I am so healthy and active. I guess the fact that it has been so hot, and I take fiber to keep me "going" I just lost too much fluiids and there it was. That is so scary at my age because I never know if I am having a heart attack or stroke or what. So I of course mix Anxiety in with it and I am one miserable puppy. I am feeling better but I need to hydrate myself more, so off I go to the refrig for another bottle of water. Have a good evening everyone. Hugs. JB You can imagine how much sleep I will get tonight with all the fluids I have been drinking. . I may just get online and talk to you if I can not sleep. Hugs, JB
Gosh darn JB, you knock it off. I will have to send a tanker of water for you and of course your babies. You must take better care of yourself. None of us want you to be sick. So drinks lots even if it means going and going and going and going etc. We love you,
Lee
JB, you keep telling us how old you are, but then you do dumb things that anyone your age should know better. Shame on you. I would think that it would scare you into acting right. Anxiety makes something like that 10 x worse. Please stay out of that heat!! All you should be doing is whatever it takes to lessen it. Stick to your knitting the way people your age are suppose to.
Lee, it is so good to hear from you again, even if it did take a dumb thing like JB did to get you on line.
That cartoon avianut posted could be JB. Come to think of it, it looks just like I imagine her. LOL
Good evening all.
This morning I got a considerable amount of used coffee grounds from a local Dunkin Donuts, I used plastic knives to temporairly mark my daylilies. Using a permanent black maeker, I wrote the IDs on both top and bottom of each knife.
If the ID becomes faded on the top part, all I have to do is pull up the knife to see what is written on the part protected by soil from the sun.
Here is a picture of the 2 hydrageas I purchased a few weeks ago. They seem to like their new home. The area they are in is a future garden improvement projecy.
LOVE YOU ALL
MARY
Come on you guys, I worry about all of you, even when I am down, I lurke here and it brings up my spirits. Keep up the chatter, it helps the blues in all of us. It is down to mid 60s here. How can my garden grow with this @#$%^&* weather. I am afraid to get those roots up for you Sharon, about the time I dig them the hot will come back and they will die. I had a wonderful surprise today, I had been watching some plants, didn't know what they were, thought maybe 4oclocks, but to my surprise, they are the hardy hibiscus I planted from seed last year. Guess I will have to start some more. If they come back each year, I will have a yard full. Guess they would qualify as one of my favorites. Not blooming yet, however, will be soon. One more week then the wedding. Can't wait to see the little darlings with their dresses. Did I tell you that the top of the wedding dress was intact so we dyed it a tan to go with a flowered skirt, and that is what the stepmom will be wearing. I have less than 1/2 yard of fabric left from the whole dress and train. Lots of lace tho---hmmm--might have to figure something out for that.
I planted some Rose of Sharon seeds and they never popped up this year, maybe they will come up and surprise me too.
OHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYY GAUDI-------------Lee said a bad word. Shame on you Lee.
BUT, THANKS YOU GUYS. I am back to normal. Nasty as ever and just taking it slow today. My kids are both EMTs and read me the riot act. Except my daughter told me this morning to get my old butt out of bed and stop thinking bad thoughts. Tough love that kid. I worry I may be getting Altzimers (can not spell it) That must be a fate worse than death.
Anyhow, I drank and drank and was in the bathroom half the night , LOL , and am feeling much better and very normal. I know it was a combination of the fiber working so much, the sweating the day before that I had to change clothing twice, (my BP meds have a God I hate to be mentally confused. It is such a helpless feeling. Thanks for all your concerns, believe me, this happened only twice in two years and I know better, but I get busy and just forget.
You are all just great..............except for Jnette..miss smarty pants, ..so I look like an ear of corn do it? Well you are sooooooo right. I am short and chunky and sweeter than all get out. So there.
Love you all. Later.
Good afternoon from little rock:
Lee you might try some gatorade and potassium. I take potassium when I am going to be cooking for a couple of hours, I know when I was working the greenhose I used to drink gatorage 3 times a day. in the am lunch and on my way home it really seemed to help.
Take care of yourself lots of breaks, a fan to get the air moving, and tons of fluids. I don't keep going beyond noon as it is too blasted hot.
stay cool
Dave
JB ~ You are just corny and there are no two ways about it!! Please, do take care of yourself. Lee has to deal with cold weather in the summertime while the rest of us are changing our clothes from the sweat...so we all have our challenges. Last night I was dizzy but fortunately already reading in bed. I don't know what is wrong with me either, but I will take the clues from you, as I know I have not been drinking enough water during the day. I suppose that might apply to all of us who don't already as it will affect the health, for some more than others. Are you eating enough fruits and veggies? Raw or lightly steamed? I have not been doing my best on this front...there is always room for improvement...
Sharon ~ Any word on your husband's health? Is he better now?
Mary ~ Do you have loads of daylilies? Are you breeding them? Check out the Gilbert H Wild website for really good bargains in DL's and peonies. http://www.gilberthwild.com I still have some that I need to plant from last year's sale...LOL!!
Dave ~ I think it was JB who had the dehydration. Lee is too dang cold in our hot summer. I can't imagine what her winters are like...How are you feeling these days??
Well, I am off to a late start today as I had a lot to do inside. I hope that you all have a great weekend!
~ Evelyn
Would any of you nice ladies like some Ajuga ground cover? It is the bronze leaf I think. It spreads like wildfire here, probably wouldn't in a hot area. Take a look in the PFs. I have enough to send to more than just one person if more want some.
The plumber finally showed up. I was worried about him 'cause I couldn't get hold of him but then he called 4 times last night and this morning and it went directly to my voicemail for some reason. We finally connected so he is here working on my pressure tank. Guess he was out of the service area when I called.
We have a lot of mountains here and the cell phones won't reach all areas. He was working in one of those places the last 2 days. Sure was glad to see him. Let me know on the Ajuga.
The weather for me is perfect, however not so much for the poor garden. Winters here can get to a minus 30 or colder, but usually not for a long stay. Generally is about zero to minus 10. Last winter was just a couple of times when it was colder, and not day by day. Lots of the plants that are supposed to come back don't because of the cold. Those hibiscus that came back were the hardy type, and they flowered and dropped their seeds. I didn't think they would make it but here they are!! YEA
JB I had to catch up with you, can't have only one of us in trouble, and I think we are the eldest, so it is up to us to pave the way------------------ :)
I, like JB, was a late riser today. I am sure is taking advantage of the brautiful low 80s weather we are experiencing in our area (some rain would be real nice ... not some but A LOT of rain).
Dawn (and anyone else interested) let me know if you would like some small 8 inches and under plants.
Evelyn, thanks for the website. Since most of my grounds were torn up during extensive exterior renovations, spring of 2009 was the start of re-establishing flower beds. I planted about 8 daylily plants last year. This year I ordered a considerable number of daylilies from Maryotts. I am presently not a cultivator.
Sharon, I am saying some special prayers for you and your husband.
Jeanette ... I would like to have the Ajuga ground cover. Here is where I would plant it.
Well, DH is OK today. When he slumped, not fall, I immediately checked his BP after he came back down stairs from getting dressed for bed. It was 118/75 which is good. Not to high, not to low. He said he thought he had forgotten to breathe. OMG. I said, "Baby Cakes", your body does not forget to breathe. Then he said he got up to fast. This man does not move fast enough to get light headed, especially getting over a broken rib. Now this is three falls in two weeks. Well when we finally got to bed we both laid there for over two ours wondering what was the problem. Then he finally fell asleep so I went to sleep. Yesterday he was reasonably OK but did not eat much. Even as hot as it is I made minestrone soup and he ate a bunch of it. I am going to make corn bread in a hour or two and that will also help.
No gardening yesterday or today. I did cleaning of the wood floors yesterday in the kitchen, dining room and great room. Today I cleaned our Master bedroom suite. I used the steamer on the wood furniture creases to get rid of the built up furniture oil and dust. Worked wonders but took over two hours. First the bedroom furniture was purchased in 1981 and cost $8,000 then. It is wonderful wood and was made in North Carolina. It is very fine furniture but does have many groves to catch dust. When we built the home, the designer wanted us to get a new bedroom set. She stated, it was very dated. I responded, so are he people sleeping in it. I did relent and had risers made to raise the bed up. I can still get in bed but soon I am going to have to get a small step to get into bed or remove the risers. If I remove the risers, the bed skirt will flow out on the floor. When you do a deep cleaning in your home, you realize how good you are and how inept your housekeeper is. But she only comes once a month, so I guess that is OK.
JB, when I read Jnette';s comment about knitting, I raised my ear to the East. I expected to hear an explosion. AND you had better be careful with the dehydration. That is what started DH's problem. He was in kidney failure when he got to the hospital. Symptoms, dizzy, confused and wobbly on his feet. They hydrated him for two days. He also had gastric problems like you that just aggravated the situation even more. I believe you need more than plain water. I will go on line later in the day and look it up and play Doctor Winter. I think DH has at least 5 saline bags over two days. That was the second time he was in. They sent him home after one saline and he was back in two days later and was in for three days. You need to get some yogurt with pro-biotic. That helps regulate the good bacteria and keeps everything normal. Well as normal as you can be. Doctors had no clue has to help DH with that problem and he had had that for over two months. I went to Whole Foods and spoke to someone in their get well area and I gave DH what they told me to get him and in 4 days the problem ceased and has not returned. But he has pro-biotic yogurt at least twice a week now.
Jnette, your plant does grow here. It took me many years to get it out of one area. I have it in an area I thought I was containing it, but discovered a few week ago it had taken off.
Lee, I am so glad to hear the Hardy Hibiscus made it there. I will send you some when I get the cuttings rooted. That is good news for Jnette and Evelyn. They usually come back from the roots. They die down completely and are slow coming up in the spring. Half the time you think they did not make it and then they show up. I have some beauties. I get cold if it gets below 80 degrees so I do not know how you live where you live. But we all live where we live for some reason that probably only makes sense to ourselves.
Evelyn, you said you may be moving. Why and where? None of my business but would love to know.
I still have not taken photos. Did not sleep well last night and when I finally got to sleep I did not awake until 10am. Then after shower and doing my hair, it was noon. I finished cleaning around 3:15pm. The day is shot. I have only eaten grapes (cold) and water today, so I should get off the couch and get something to eat.
I have two coleus that are absolutely astounding. They are a dark rose and trimmed with a light yellow/gold that looks like neon. The other one is the same color but the yellow/gold is variegated inside the leaf instead of trimming the leaf. I will try to get a photo tomorrow morning.
Dave, do you know a good source for Cactus/Succulents. I found the attached but I need them a little large. This is for the pots by the guard house. I really like the reddish color because we already have a very large gray one in the pot already.
I have a bunch of tomatoes I need to do something with. I usually saute garlic, lots of it, and pine nuts until the pine nuts are golden and have infused some garlic flavor. Then I chop the tomatoes into small pieces. Make my pasta and when it is cooked and still steaming I pour the pasta into a large shallow bowl and then toss in the garlic, pine nuts, chopped basil uncooked and tomatoes uncooked and let sit for about 3 minutes. It is killer tasty. Now I am getting hungry. Actually, that is a lie. I never get hungry. But that does sound good.
Later all my friends.
Merry, we cross posted. Thanks for your concerns. I have been doing great. But full concentration has been keeping DH out of the hospital.
Dawn, if you take 8" plants, you need to establish a holding area so they can grow up before you plant them in our wonderful climate. My is on the South of the house, shaded by our home and the neighbors. Also protected from the wind so baby plants just have a better chance of making it. I spent so much money on plants that did not make it I finally came up with this idea and it works. My only problem is my holding garden cannot hold any more. I need to get things out and shipped to you guys but it has to get cooler.
Did it again. Later.
Sharon, good to hear everthing is OK. Can I be on your plant list? I have so much that needs to be done.
Here is a picture of the new garage built 2 summers ago. The old one was about ready to cave in. I only have one, one car garage door because I never park inside the garage except in winter. A 2nd garage door could be install where the window is.
That little bench ib front of the garage door is one of the best garden devices. If you turn it upside down there is a soft kneeling pad. You can store a few small garden tools under the seat.
Mary, Dmail me your address. Also Mary, about the comment on knitting to JB, JB knows when I am jabbing her and ignores me.
This climate was not my choice, however, Mom needed help so we moved here from Washington st, 10 yrs ago. Been fighting the gumbo clay ever since. I too have spent lots on plants that didn't make it. That is why I grow mostly annuals from seed. I really do need to try some that come back, just figure they will freeze out and all that work will be for naught. Things have settled down a bit, and I can somewhat relax. The poor yard has suffered tho, just like last year. Remember, last year it was my aunt. I really have had enough. Honestly, I need a vacation, maybe two. Maybe I and DH should make the rounds of each and every one of you hehehe.

I would like ajuga. I could not see what plant Merrymath was offering me, but if it grows here, it sounds good. I just need to wait till mid Sept. to receive them, or they won't make the trip in the heat more than likely.
I love plants in the mail, it is like Christmas. Thanks.
Sharon I do have a couple of sheltered spots that are not exposed to wind and I try to hold plants in those areas to help them establish in our climate. I saw a home with those palms the other day, they were red and about 2 or 3 feet tall.
I just need to add extra water lines in that holding spot, since I don't have enough there for what is already there and the other spot has no water lines, so I hand water.
You tell me Sharon when I can come up, sometime in Sept. or October and I will just pick up any plants you want to pass on to me. I will visit and we can laugh it up or if there is too much going on with the Hubby, we could meet in the middle as you said before.
Dawn, how many Rose of Sharon plants can you use?
I have nicknamed them the DIEHARDS. They survive in soil that is bone dry. If you water them it is like giving them plant food.
For a long time, I did not like them because they were in my neighbors yard bordering my yard ... they were never pruned and grew tall and lanky. I now realize how pretty they are if they are vigerously prune each year. It appears that the more they are pruned the more flowers it produces.
What color the blooms will be is a variable because these are baby plants that have yet to set any buds. The blooms will definitely NOT be yellow or orange.
Pink, blue, purple/violet, or white

Well Dawn, the only thing I have going is our 50th high school reunion on the weekend of the 22nd of September. You can come over, even spend the night. I have a great guest room. But no smoking, not even in my yard. I have asthma and it just gets it started. I also make a killer breakfast.
What about taking them back across the border. Is that legal? They usually do not stop us because we are from Nevada and everything we eat or grow comes through California.
Lee, you and hubby can also come bug you will have to coordinate with Dawn.
Jnette, we knew you were kidding. Just giving you a bad time.
Well Dawn, I am trying to figure out how to send these little plants where the roots are right up next to the leaves. If I get them to Mary, I guess we can consider it a practice run. LOl, Sorry Mary, any suggestions would be appreciated.
