Dawn, I sent more than 2 plants ..... like 5 or 6.
Oh Dave .....I collected more JM seeds today...... they are a lot easier to see now. YIPEE
Propagation: Plant propagation part XIX based on my own ex
Dawn, I think you should not plant anything until mid September. It is just not work all the work to keep therm alive.
This is the weekend of Lee's big wedding so we will probably not hear from her until later in the week. She said she would post photos.
The plants I got from Jnette are finally showing they are going to make it. But I have them in the holding garden that is in the shade, irrigated twice a day and then mothered by me at least once a day. The blue flowers have not shown their heads but Lee said she would send some later.
I got the 80 irises finally planted. I actually buried them and when they root I will uncover them. I only have about another 80 to plant but I have to get the beds ready. I am going to soak them in Super Thrive and kelp solution tomorrow and then plant on Tuesday. I finally got the peat moss soaked so I can redo the worm bin tomorrow.
I have been searching for some of the new oleanders. JB, you should look into those. Everyone is the SW is looking for plants and they are very hard to find. There are new colors, double blooms and also variegated leaves. They are mostly sold as tropical plants. They are my new looking to purchase plant. Also found some different cordelynes. Probably going to order them also.
We were 105 today and suppose to be that hot the majority of the week. September we start cooling down. Mid September and October are actually beautiful.
I took some cuttings of a lantana at a neighbors that is a lovely light purple with a yellow & white center. I had not seen this variety before. She had three in her back landscape that were very large. They were planted by my landscaper. I discovered it when I did a walk through with him.
DH's doctor appointment is Tuesday at 3:30pm. He is a cardiologist and lives directly north of us and always says just come over if you have any concerns but I feel guilty going into him home for business. But he did say I could call him in the middle of the night if I felt it was necessary and if I do feel that way, I will call. When I told DH that I was going with him and tell the doctor how many times he has fallen, he did not like that. That is why all wifes should go to the doctor with their husbands.
Miss you all. Only a few more weeks of high heat and then we will be having fun again in the garden. Mid September is when I plant my greens, turnips, green beans, peas, beets and broccoli. In the SW those are winter vegetables.
Later friends. Have a great morning.
Mary I have them all in different spots now, some in pots in semi shade, some in ground in semi shade and part sun, some in sun but filtered by taller plants, so I hope some survive.
Sharon she sent the plants to me, so I have to try to keep them alive somehow. The seeds I am starting under a shady tree and have been having some luck there in the yogurt containers, but I still can not find my gel crystals and did not dissect diapers to try them. I planted some wildflower seeds in Mid Sept one year and they all sprouted and went through a cold winter to give me a great show for Spring, later Winter actually, so I am hoping to repeat that with some starts now and keep them in a warmer place during the Winter, then they will be somewhat established. I don't want to do as much WS as I have been doing. It has not had as many survivors as I had hoped, for all that I plant.
I would quit lurking, but I don't have much interesting to say. I am curious about 1 thing, tho- I quit using those water crystals because someone told me that if they get too dry, they will actually work in reverse. That is, they will pull moisture from the plant. Have any of you ever heard that? Maybe I'll do some googling and see what pops up.
I have a Very Grouchy Patagonian perched on my head at the moment- molting time. He can't stand NOT getting attention, but the pin feathers drive him bonkers!

peeps ..... I have a sneaky feeling that Dave is in one of his devilish moods.
Dawn and I can be easily fooled.
I have to get to post office pronto.
so ..... I will explain the above comments later

Morning all:
Jillian: I believe removal of water from the plant is not going to happen with the crystals, but they will soak up all the excess water and remove it from the soil around it thus drying out the plant and causing stress.
I do not plan to have that surgery as I have had too many so far anyway. I already have both a morphine pump and a neuro stimulator and they seem to help. I do take oral meds for the break through pain. as long as I can tolerate the way I am now and in the future I will not do the surgery. Its way to scary. I did develop the spinal stenosis after my last back surgery. My body produces way to many spurrs and I think the same process is filling in the canal. I think I will have to be down for the count and screaming in pain before I sign up for that surgery.
well we managed to get the floor started with joistsand started laying the subfloor. we pooped out and called an evening abot 8:30ish. as a result I am down for the count today.
Have a great day. Dave
Well you guys, I have been down since last Friday and finally broke down and called tech support. I only do that as a last resort 'cause it means an hour with them trying all kinds of things, plugging and unplugging, etc. Especially when we have to do 2 computers to make them both work.
Anyway, I am finally back on.
Dawn, what do you do with the diapers? D mail me your address and I will send you some Watersorb crystals. How many do you need? Not want. LOL, I doubt if I have that many. But, I will send you some.
I bought some pads about 7 inches square that you put in the bottom of the pots. I used them on my hanging baskets and they did a lot better this year. Don't know what they are made of. I'll bet they were coated with the paste that someone was talking about. Maybe between layers??? But they were expensive. I think over $5 for 4 of them. Too much to buy very many.
I am finally getting a bloom on my huge brug. One bloom!! However, I think I have it figured out. I think if I bubble root the ends of the branches that have already Y'd, and start there in the spring, then I should have a lot of blooms. What do you guys think? So, I will toss the roots.
Well, got a lot of mail after being down that long, so better get going. ttyl
I can't stay on long. For now I have 2 questions
Jeanette ..... please explain bubble root the ends of branches
Dawn ..... explain how you use diapers and what kind

Hi Everyone:
we are moving to the below link.

Please check in.
Dave
Oh I am going to forget so hope I don't miss anyone, am in a hurry.
I would love crystals but it is ok, Janette, thanks anyways. I am going to order a 5 lb, bag, I have decided, it is necessary here, especially since our water (well) members are having a meeting, we have contaminated water and they are probably selling us to the city after all this time. So much for low water bills.
Diapers can be cut open and the gel crystals are inside the lining at the bottom to hold urine. They are the same stuff as in our Polymer crystals. I find the crystals are best for starting seeds and establishing young roots, you have to keep them moist. I don't have great luck with making that be the source of less watering, though they may not be bone dry if I don't water a few days in the heat.
Hot enough for you Sharon, Crap it was freaking hot today, but not as hot as tomorrow and the next day are going to be.
I am so ready for mid September or I am going to run away and hide at either Evelyn or Jnette's porch. Evelyn is closer.
My garden is doing OK because I have planned shade so that my sun sensitive plants have filtered shade. Suppose to have high winds this weekend. That means above 40mph. Let's see, 40mph winds and temps at 105. Like a furnace blast on the plants. That will be trouble for every plant, tree I have.
I am going to go play a few games of Suduko so see you all tomorrow.
What ... no pictures Sharon?
I was hoping to see the newly planted iris bed. How do you mark/label your plants .... what do you use?
I took shade cloth to cover some of my plants that look withered in the heat today, since the heat is supposed to be for the next 3 days at least. It was 106 today and the next two are going to be hotter. They said on Thurs and Fri. might have some lightning. We sure got hosed out of the Mansoon rains, so far. I am praying for rains and thunder and lightning in Sept and Oct. There is always a chance still.
Go to Evelyn's she is up in the higher elevations by Lake Tahoe. I will join you girls up there for a girls weekend. lol
NEED TO CLOSE THIS THREAD DAVE!!
I just shipped three cactus bareroot to KY. Pray they arrive o.k. We checked the weather and mine here is in the 70s with an ocean mist. The customer is low 80s, so I took a chance. We will see what happens. Cactus should be o.k.
Got so much to do I can not see straight. Will talk to you all later. Hugs. JB
