evelyn_inthegarden wrote: Hello all! I am finally feeling better. I planted more in the "Cottage Garden" border this morning and now it is getting too full. I will have to take some out when they get crowded, but it was looking like a landcaper came by instead of a gardener...yes I did have them spaced out quite well, but annuals will be coming out at the end of the season and the lavender will not stay in there as it is too shady, tho' part shade, as it does get hot direct sun. Still they will get too big for that space and I have another area where I want them, but the spot is not ready yet. Right now it is too hot to dig in that spot as it is nice and sunny...good for the lavender I want to pull out of the "White Flower Border" as well, as it really took over. I will be starting some hollyhocks, sweet william and foxglove from seed for this border. I will have to take a picture, but the light never seems to be right as it is light and shadow all day. (Good for the plants, though...) I want plants in there that have larger white flowers and for sun/part sun location. It has most of the daisies from the former "White Daisy Garden" and I will be adding "Old Court" from Bluestone Perennials....I have white lilac, a little sweet woodruff, some strawberries (yes, white flowers) the birds eat the strawberries. I will probably put some bird netting over them next year...white peonies, dianthus, lily-of-the-valley and some callas. I had someone come and take out the lilac suckers and they took them home to plant. Hopefully they took. I will just clip off any more that come up as that shrub has been there for many years. Any suggestions?? (Nothing like gardenias, as I am allergic to them...) Mary ~ I am glad your temps are better today...Yesterday we had 75°, but that lasted one day, with a low of 55°, instead of our usual 60°. I was not really able to take full advantage of yesterday's fine weather, but I did just water and fertilize. Today is better though warmer, as I accomplished planting as well as finishing up the fertilizing. I had some small misc. basil seedlings that I never planted out. Now I read that I was to wait until frost blackened the potato tops...no wonder they were so many small ones. Also I will plant them earlier, too. I have red, white blue and yellow potatoes. So the basil seedlings went in where the potatoes were pulled out. This spring I planted 8 Square Foot Gardens, after thoroughly sifting out the weeds and roots out of each bed. It took me quite a while, as I did it in between the storms starting in February with the peas and carrots in the first bed. I hope that you like your new leaf shredder...it looks as though you were a careful shopper...good for you! JB ~ Is it really cooler there too? If so, wonnnderful!! Have fun! Jeanette ~ I hope that you like your hand held Shark steamer. Is it the one with the pads, or without? Oh, the pressure tank. We had to dig a well last year after we sold my mother-in-law's house as we shared that well for years. We lived there for a while when I was recovering from my surgeries. Those things are expensive, but still better than any city water, unless your well is not good. Ours is wonderful and deep. We no longer need a water softener to keep out the iron out of the water like before so it got donated. We don't have soft water, though...but less expensive and no salt and all to buy...etc...I should get some powdered water softener for the laundry, but I just never think of it, as the clother come out fine without it. Oh, BTW, thanks for asking...I am better today...I am trying not to overdo it, as I get my enthusiasm back once I get better...then sometimes setbacks occur.... just trying to find the balance... Sharon ~ Yes, we all look foward to those nice pictures... You will be proud of me, as I am really doing a lot more mulching....it is coming along as I do a bit each day that I am able. I will take more pictures as I make more progress. Dave ~ Are you still on that soapbox?? Yes, PayPal is convenient...oh, and thanks for all those new (to me) seed links...that is all I need...more seeds! LOL!! Well, I must get back to work. Have a nice evening everyone.
