New bees chit chat - come on in!! 04/30/2010
Loca, someone told us they go to the pet shop and buy the water that they sell for fish. I didn't know they did that; but you could use it, it has no chemicals in it.
Good morning Littlenettie, You can use that in a bog garden. Add some carnivorous plants like the venus fly trap or cobra lily or pitcher plants and post a picture for us
Yes Loca, that will work too. I was asking someone what to use if you don't get rain and someone who grows the CPs said she uses fish water from the place that sells fish, and her pictures of her bog gardens were so pretty.Man, what gardens! Lovely.
Nettie, Congratulations on the best in show! Great going!

Interesting on the fish water... Hmmmmmm.....
Yeah!!!! for you littlenettie.
WooHoo!! Way to go littlenettie! Congrats! Wow, best of show! It just doesn't get any better than that. Nice going!
Congrats Nettie.
Seray or RRM or anyone can you leave a link here for Littlenettie so she can come see us over there? It's free and just join with your name and come find us.
Thank you MINDY. That is sweet of you. I wish I could do that! Life would be a little easier.
Wouldn't have to bother people all the time, except when I'm bored.
I ended up with 8 baby chicks Mindy. The other 4 eggs were bad. But they pretty chicks!
You are welcome Mekos. I'm hopeful on mine but time will tell.
I got my fingers crossed for you.
What kind of incubator do you have Mekos?
I'm going to move my hen this weekend with DH help. Where they will be safer.
It is just a styrofoam one with clear windows on top and can hold about 2-3 dozen eggs, depending on how big the eggs. It costs about 50.00 for the you turn eggs yourself or 120.00 for it does all the work for you. I only used it once before in 2 years so I got the cheap one you turn yourself. Couldn't justify the automatic at higher cost for one or two times use. I use it more for hatching flower seeds-tropical ones that need warmer temps. Hehehaha I hatched all kind of seeds so far.
Wow, mekos, what a great idea. Grew up using incubators all the time (for eggs) and would have never thought of that. Now when I go to all those farm and ranch auctions this spring, I'm going to watch for one for seeds. Great idea!!
YUP, came in handy in the winter trying to hatch a bat flower. Then my power went out and the two i already had died along with my baby sprout. But for the most part it works great!
When there's a will there's a way! LOL
huny my amryllis, minerva like yours wone best in show at the garden club show send it to my little grand son to give his mother for mothers day it was real pretty this year i was afraid they wduldn,t makee it we had some nasty weather this year
You did great Littlenettie. That is a great honor.
Mitt should enter his Iris in a show.
Those are show stoppers for sure.
enid are you getting wet yet we may all have to learn how to float on our backs if it keeps this up.are you going to the ru this fall i don,t know yet just have to play it by ear love nettie
Good Morning everyone,
Wow Nettie best in show that is great!! Mit does have some beautiful Irises , what do you all plant with your Irises? For before and after I mean. Companions for them.
Nettie - is that what you call wet? I think we can move right on up to water logged now!! My poor Bougainvillea is standing in water - don't quite know how I am going to handle that yet - guess I will have to wade in to save it.
Arejay - I don't plant anything with my irises - don't want anything shading my rhizomes.
Arejay I plant zinnas in the middle of my irises.
I don't weither, I read they need the rhizomes exposed to the sun so they will bloom. but you can surround them with plants.
Well, you all saw how nice my iris was blooming and still is... Mine have the ryzomes covered in about 4-6 inches of mulch so sun never touches them babies. And they spread like peanut butter.
They need to be covered here a bit in the summer. Our sun is just tooooooooo hot.
How funny - I promise you if I covered my rhizomes in mulch they would rot. I have a little trouble with rotting as it is - most of mine are exposed to direct sunlight too - don't bury them deep enough to cover completely or they would rot for sure. There are a couple of them that heaved over the winter and are sitting on top of the soil - they are rooted down so figure I best leave them alone - they seem happy where they are.
Look- my rescued Josephs Coat is gonna bloom - Yippee - see, I don't kill everything!! Don't look at my black spots - I am treating those with fungicide as we speak. Rained about 3 inches here last night so am fighting a losing battle right now.
enid i have aad luck with builders sand with my bulbs they don.t rot i guess they get better drainage you might try thai nettie
could you use water out of a stock pond ? just thought i would ask nettie
NOW MITT, I'm sorry for even thinking of nabbing your Iris. I asure you I am not going to jank up all my daylilies to have a place to put more Iris because I kinda sorta like em, if I do say so myself. And besides, they are already grounded here, if I did jank em up, they would send out roots and regrow so they would be back faster than you could blink. SO, Please come post more pictures for us to drool over.
All jokes aside, I do hope the wind didn't damage them too much. They are real beauties!
my la. iris are in a bog garden they get all the water from the washing machine dh did that for mr the plants love all the water they are real big killed two birds with one stone don.t need all that water iou of the septic system
mit if i haxe anytning you would like just ask and t would never steal a plant from anyone.that would be like taking a child have a good evening nettie
You got me right in the heart, nettie.
Good morning Mitt! She is beautiful! Thanks! for the picture. What a great way to start the day!
Can anyone help me? Does anyone know of a plant with a name like Chindoxa? Or maybe Achindoxa? That is how the lady pronounced it anyway. It is a perennial, and is in bloom in zone 4 or 5 now. My niece saw it growing yesterday, asked the lady what it was, and that's how the lady pronounced it, so have no idea how it is really spelled. Any ideas?
Skellog - is this it? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/757/
Nettie called you a baby snatcher mekos - lol...
Mitt, what is that yellow one? I have one very much like it. It is beautiful.
