New bees chit chat Come on in!! 2/25/10

Hugs and prayers Sapphire! We're here waiting with you.

Cocoa, FL(Zone 9a)

locakeylle, I'm Zone 9b I believe but I have plants that are not suppose to grow in my area but do well in pots and love the Florida Sunshine :)

Great to hear that Caleb is home and doing well honeybunch :)

My prayers for you, your husband and family Sapphire I hope everything goes well and that the worse can be avoided !!

Since I keep hearing that everyone LOVES pictures I took a few pictures yesterday of my African Violets. They are all Optimara Varieties but they are beautiful specimens. I just cannot wait to get my hands on some Russian and other AV types (I'm just a sucker for AVs and Roses as well...LOL) Anyway, here's my AV Optimara "Rita"? (that's my best guess from looking at their website for Identification)

Prayers for your husband and you and your family from us. Be sure to take care of yourself during this rough patch. We'll be here for you when you need us. Hugs.

Silver I love AV but I keep forgetting to water the poor things so gave up trying to grow them.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Sapphire we are all right beside you and your husband are in my thoughts.

Silver!! That is gorgeous!! Does she have a name?

Cocoa, FL(Zone 9a)

LOL ... my mom cannot grow AVs either. Every AV she's ever had has died, whether it was from over/under watering them or not giving them the needed nutrients I really don't know but it seems she tends to kill them every time. So, now that she's found out that I can grow them with my eyes closed she buys me one every couple of months or so just so she can enjoy watching them grow and bloom.

The AV bloom pictured in my previous post is I believe "Rita" but am not sure as the description on Optimara's website says that "Rita" is a single ruffled bloom and the blooms on this one are either semi-double/double blooms as you can see in the picture I posted.

Here's a link to a picture of Optimara's "Rita" bloom - http://www.optimara.com/optimarafieldguide/varietiesm-z/rita.html

As you can see there the color and type of bloom is right but the rest is not, I'm wondering if maybe it's one of Optimara's discontinued AVs or maybe a "Rita" decided to go wild...lol

Mornin all! Off to the hospital to have tubes in baby's ears this am. Have to be there at 6 -surgery at 8. No milk for the baby when he gets up - this should be fun!!

Expecting rain here this afternoon, the poa may take over my lawn before I can do anything about it. Needs to be above 60 to spray with roundup - not gonna happen today.

Glad Caleb is home! Still praying for speedy recovery. Sapphire - hang in there - praying for your husband and family too.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Nettie,
How is your Grandson? Is he ok? Did you say he had a car accident with a truck?

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Hugs and Prayers go out to you and DH Sapphire. Hoping all is well with him. A friend of mine just had a stint put in and she is doing great, but possible later she may have to have the surgery done. They are just waiting to see if the stint does what it is suppose to .

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Morning Ladies - got most of my winter sowing done, now waiting for something (anything) to turn green.

We have tomarrow off Thursday, planning on going to the Rochester flower show all day. I have some friends up there from the Crosman Seed Co. that will have a huge seed rack display. Crosman is a heritage company in business since early 1800's with many oldie type seeds hard to find elsewhere. They have a neat website:

www.crosmanseed.com

If anybody wants to check over their website, I can pick up special (small) orders tomarrow right at the show. Prices are really cheap, most envelope packs are quite generous. I've had good luck ordering from this company. Contact my D-Mail.

Thanks for all the support and prayers. I am truly blessed by all of you. We are at the point of calm and ready to get it all over with. Arrangements have been made for the little guy. So now all we have to do is go have the surgery.

Nettie, I hope that your grandson is okay.

Enid, those tubes are a blessing. Anthony has them in his ears. We noticed an improvement in a day. Its been a year since they were put in and the change is astronomical.

Silver, those are beautiful! I have 2 AVs in my house that are alive, but have never re-bloomed.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Sapphire, you and DH are in my thoughts and prayers. As someone mentioned, heart surgery has come a loooooooooonnnnnnnnggggggg way!

Al - Crosman has very good seeds, but I think I need more seeds like I need a hole in the head - lol.

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

Hi guys.. Hope you all are doing well...The weather is warm and rainy here..I did get my bulbs planted and one load of pecan hulls spead over my pink flower bed...I cant seem to get things caught up at home...I miss you guys...

Booneville, AR

enid what you need is some of my cotton candy i would share if you were here they don,t put calorie count on the tub if they did they would never sell any of it. thats a lie id still buy it. reminds me of the circus.and carvinal some of my favorite things.

Enid, OK

Cotton Candy for a cure all? I'll go for that. The baby is fine - the first hour after surger was torture but he is better now.

Cold and rainy here - wont be working in yard for awhile.

I am ready for spring - can't wait to get things goin in the garden. DH worked on antique tiller today - hopefully he figured that thing out. It is a monster but it sure does a good job. I have a little bitty one too, but it is only good for ground that has been worked before. Need the monster to plow up my garden spot.

Al, if you are still willing to part with grandpa's maters, put me down for a couple. Sounds like we all need to grow our own tomatoes this year, sounds like they have had major crop failure this year. Good tomatoes will be the price of gold this summer.

Going to try and catch some zzzz's mornin' comes early.

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Still making my tomato list. Just ask. Delivery in late April.

HELP - DH is gonna kill me again!! I have been saving coffee grounds because I read somewhere they are good for something. I don't remember what I a supposed to do with them and if I don't get rid of them soon DH is threatening to get rid of me. Now what?? Were they for a lasagna bed I don't have the other stuff for or something else?

Booneville, AR

anyone seen aj today id love to get in on yhe day lily thing but don,t know how could use some help nettie

Enid, OK

Nettie - check your D-mail I will tell you what I know.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

candles - coffee grounds are a source of Nitrogen. They are good as a "green" in your compost pile or lasagna bed. They can also be added as mulch to acid-loving plants like Gardenias and blueberries... You were probably saving them for the lasagna bed - lol.

Cocoa, FL(Zone 9a)

Well, hoping we don't get too much rain today as we have had a very wet winter and looking to be a wet spring as well...LOL Either way, my cosmos are really reaching up there in their new pots and the Green Beans are finally starting to really grow. We have one that broke ground about 2 weeks ago and I transplanted it into a bigger pot last night when I transplanted the rest of my Cosmos making the baby count up to around 30...LOL

My horses are disgusted with the weather, my gliders are sleepings, and my dog is just plain unhappy that she can't go out and sunbathe. Lord help her if she has to go out and potty in the rain, she's dainty that way ;)

Here's a picture of my "princess"

Enid those coffee grounds are good for attracting worms too.

Silver your dog sounds like one of mine. She hates getting her feet wet but loves to play in snow go figure.

Cocoa, FL(Zone 9a)

lol...exactly, we don't know how she'd react in the snow since she's never been in snow and we were going to take her up to Tennessee this past Christmas but ended up not being able to go due to car trouble. We ended up spending close to $350 just fixing the intake in the car. Luckily it happened right before we were to leave and not after we had left and were in the middle of nowhere. Anyhoo, she is a "danty" little lady and with intelligence that makes ou wonder who is really in charge some times..LOL

She has been and is a wonderful girl. I most definitely could not have asked for a better animal than her. She pretty much potty trained and crate trained herself before she was 8 weeks old, was sitting on command by 9 weeks old, and minds wonderfully (She'll be 10 yrs old this October). We don't even have to use a leash on her but do fo rthe "in case" as you can never tell what may or may not set an animal "off". No matter what she knows she's the baby and it doesn't take much for her to get jealous. She's been a great birth control method for my husband and I. Only problem being we don't have any children and would like some...LOL

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Least she minds LOL mine only minds if she takes a notion. Most of the time she's pretty good but there's some situations where she will ignore every command given simply because she knows best LOL. She will be 9 in October and we have 2 of her sons also who will be 2 in April. One is a sweetheart and minds real good, the other is a terror who only minds grudgingly when it's a conflict of what he wants to do and what we want him to do. His newest tatic to keep from having to come in is to stand or sit very still like a statue and pretend he's invisible.

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

Thats a sweet princess silver...Good morning everyone..Al Id love to have some of grampa tomatoes to plant if you a few to spare..I havent forgotten your irises either its about that time..I drove by and spotted them last night lol...

We had a cook out at my Dadslast night... My Brother and his family(kids and grandkids) We fried fish, frog legs, shrimp, boiled shrimp, french fries, fried biscuits... mmmm its was all so good...It was hard for me to not eat all I wanted...I've lost 28 pounds so far tho and intend to keep it that way..Stuffing all that fried food down would have killed me during the night.. I ate plenty of boiled shrimp tho...I think Im going to have the left over boiled shrimp for breakfast lol.. Then im going outside to work on this beautiful sunshine filled day.. Talk to you all later Trish

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

lol Mindy thats funny...Wonder what he is thinking when he stands like that hehe

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Probably praying we will just give up and leave him outside LOL. MIL had a red and tan hound who used to come to our trailer to see what kind of scraps got thrown out for the wildlife across the road and there was a huge oak tree near the spot. Everytime Hobo heard DH opening the door he would get behind that tree and stand perfectly still and look in any direction but towards the trailer. He never did figure out that he was still visible because the tree wasn't wide enough to hide all of him LOL.

Hello everyone! I just joined and sent off my envie and stamps for my free newbie seeds yesterday! I am very excited to be here and very much looking forward to learning from you all! Not sure if this is the place for an intro, but here's a bit about me:

My hubby and I have gardened for years, mostly veggies and herbs, and only on a backyard scale, but we now live on a ten acre farm and have jumped into full-fledged homesteading and self-sufficiency--with a goal of supporting ourselves at some point with market gardens and possibly grassfed meats. We specialize in heirloom veggies and all kinds of herbs, and I'm sooo excited to finally have the space to grow everything I've been dreaming of, lol!

I also homeschool my two teenage boys and although they weren't thrilled with our decision to become farmers at first, they are actually enjoying the country life so far. :)

I do have a couple of blogs that I don't post on often enough, but it is a fun hobby:

Thanks for reading and for the great welcome!

Almost-Spring Blessings,

Hi Zee - Welcome to our crazy runaway train. We talk on just about anything that comes to mind, even garden stuff on occasion. You'll likely get your seed packet soon, always fun to anticipate Spring.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Hi Z! Glad you could join us!

I'm sure you haven't had time to learn your way around here yet, but there are some great forums you would definitely be interested in - homesteading, market growers, organic gardening, sustainable alternatives, poultry - so many goodies here and so little time!

We're a bunch of fun folks who like to chat and share stories and prayers and plants and seeds. Again - welcome!

Kelly (but you can call me loca)

Enid, OK

Hey guys, I have lived to see another day. Stashed the coffeed grounds in the candle shop - DH doesn't go out there - it "stinks". How a candle shop could stink I will never understand - he just isn't used to foo foo smells - if it don't smell like a semi, it stinks.

47 and extra windy here today - going to plant my taters in trash bags today - hope the little buggers grow, I spent 34 cents on my seed potatoes - don't want that big investment to go to waste.

Welcome Zee! This is the place to chat and have fun. It looks like an exciting adventure you've undertaken and we're looking forward to you sharing your stories with us.

My garage is full of Starbucks coffee grounds Enid. Every chance I get I bring home a bag. Can't beat them for lasagna beds, top dressing etc. Haven't planted anything yet but tomato seeds.

Huney glad you're back home and catching up.

Princess is a sweetie Silver. Nothing like an intelligent dog!

Hope you all have a great weekend! Big Hugs Warm here and time to go!

Pearland, TX

Hey guys. Checking in for an update. Hubby had a panic attack yesterday before surgery and his doctor cancelled the procedure. Spent the evening getting down to the bottom of the panic attack and talking him through it. Figured out the trouble and so now its back to the caridologist on Monday for a new surgery date.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Sorry to hear that sapphire. Hopefully he will get OK for the next date and you don't have to wait to long. Tell him that we are all with both of you so no need to panic.

Dellroy, OH(Zone 6b)

Positive thoughts and prayers going out to all of your families. I hope everyone is doing better by the time you all read this. Seems it has been a week of torment and tragedy for some. Don't worry, the seasons are changing and everything gets better during the spring and summer.

You all take care and try to stay healthy.

Don't stress about the little things....you won't remember what they were in a month or two.....the serious stuff sometimes is better left to the Lord to handle.

Love you all ((((((((BIG HUGS TO YOU))))))))

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Hi Z glad you stopped in!! Visit often or you will miss things. Like I did today. Must not have been the right day for it Sapphire. Maybe Monday is better for a reason you will never know. Hi everyone!!
