Countdown to spring! One garden photo per day - Part 8

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Dahlianut, great shot of "The Rocket"

Ge1836 , I don't have your L. Desdemonas, which looks like a winner.
The Ligularia is a special plant for the partly shade garden. We grow lots of L. Rocket as well as several clumps of Britt Marie Crawford both of which we have had for many, many years in several partly shady spots. We have no really deep shade. They are easy to divide and grow, except they do wilt in hot weather and are always thirsty, especially The Rocket. I have moved them several times, no problem.

I have ordered one called Ligularia Osiris Café Noir from Garden Crossing this year, and I planted one called L. Osiris Fantasie which I picked up at Bay State Perennials last year, as well as one called Gregynog Gold from Big Dipper, but I can't report on them yet. Hope they all return! I also have one called Ligularia przewalskii which I must say I can't remember seeing it in bloom last year. Duh, me bad or it didn't make it. Here is a big picture taken of the endless spring bed on 05/26/09 which includes L. Britt Marie Crawford in the foreground. Love the dark shiny leaves. Patti

I will have lots of JA tubers, too, if anyone wants some. Just make sure you have a large area where you don't mind them taking over, cause they will.

Cousin Nut, I love your ligularia. I have that one, too. Yours looks great, too, JoAnne. Mine gets too much shade, though, so it doesn't look nearly as good as yours. Maybe I'll try moving it to where it will get more sun. I also have Othello, and that's in the same area. Foliage always looks nice, but blooms are so great. Had it in a lot more sun before, and it did the wilting, screaming thing, too, but looked great once the shade hit it in the evening or on overcast days. Bill, I think I'm going to move mine this spring, too.

Nice mini rose, Allison. That definitely is a good one if you don't have to do anything to it. I love roses like that. I don't deal with the ones you have to fuss with. The only thing I have that I have to fuss with is the Asiatic and Oriental lilies, cause of the lily beetles, have to be sprayed. Everything else is easy care stuff.

I wanted something dramatic on that side of the house. Neighbors see it comming and going.
Patti I will check GC to see your new ones.I saved that pic. such a serene scene( sounds like a soft rock band of the 60's)

Cool rose, Allison. Looks like candy.

I like ligularia - especially Britt with its dark foliage. I have mine near Summer Wine ninebark and a deodar cedar. Love the echoes and contrasts it provides.

Nice agastache, Karen. It's a great plant for problem areas, dry areas, etc.

Nice shot, Bill. The Great Wall! (I like the sprinkler. ^_^)

Beautiful colors, Jen and Pirl!

This is Peppermint Schnapps hibiscus.

Late catching up today. Everyone has been busy I see.
Lots of pretty ligularia posted by D-nut, JoAnn and Patti. All are very nice, specially that dark foliage one.
Onewish that is a really cute two toned rose. Nice that it is also healthy and easy to deal with, nice bonus.
Karen I tried that agastache here a while back but it was not happy here, yours however looks very happy in your garden. Maybe I should try again.
Bill that shot shows off all the hard work you did on that wall. Flowers aren't bad either. Still amazed at the skill you have with rocks.
Nice fresh look with the raindrops on the DL Jen. I am hoping for a few less this spring and early summer.
Pirl that pic of a dahlia I think it is, really warms me up on another cold Feb. day. Very pretty
Now that is a beauty Victor. I have one ordered just because of your pics. Hope it turns out as nice.
Since we had more darn snow this am ,glad it wasn't much, I needed a lot of blooms to get me out of the Feb. funk that seems to be setting in. So here ya go. Not spring pic but lots of blooms that I need to remember right now.

Thanks, Pat. It has been outstanding for two straight years. The first year it did not put out too many flowers, though they were gorgeous. It's a real winner so far.

Terrific photo, Pat! It makes me feel springy, if that's a word.

I don't know if the sunflowers I have are JAs but I did dig them out last fall and plant them in containers for control, we'll see if they like it or not.

LUV the ligularia shots. You will note that my rocket is beside the bird bath so it gets extra water in my dry clime when I change the bird bath every day. I have put the new three-strikes-your-out Britt Marie Crawford on the other side of the bird bath in hopes that she too will thrive. Patti that bed is to die for! Cousin Nut I SO want to try agatsche although it's not hardy here (and I can't spell it). I adore the Great Wall of Wha and o ya monarda and dear Pirl with a beluved dahlia. And now for something completely different ^_^ I call these my neon glads. I have had a mix of them for 6 years which some years I grow in pots and some years in the ground. They are all the most outrageous colours and they make me laugh.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Ooooooo, DNut LOVE LOVE LOVE the colors on that one!!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Isn't it a giggle flowerjen? Methinks the breeder was a 60s fan ^_^ Funny thing though is that although they look hybrid sterile some of them (including that oranch/yellow in my pic) make tons of bulblets so I have been propagating them.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow! Like a lava lamp!
