I suspect part of the problem is that this all happened without any apparent consultion with Dave and people are feeling very protective and probably assuming that there will be lots of changes again without asking the members opinion! Seems to be an automatic assumption that everything will change and not for the best.Actually considering all the posts - I think it is up to 4 threads now - the new owners must be wondering what they got themselves into because so much has seemed negative. Too bad. Some people were even offended that the previous 3 threads had been locked so people could not post when they were only ensuring that only one thread was active so any posts were up to date ( And it was Terry-DG admin that did it!)

What's Happening in your neck of the woods? Friends...
The drama is ridiculous. This is not the first time DG has been sold; I'm hard pressed to remember what happened the first time. Actually, change could be a good thing...I think there's a bit too much censorship sometimes in what we are allowed to talk about, would be nice to see that relax a bit. Just my opinion, don't go beatin' on me. LOL.
I have to agree with you Grow_Jo and welcome...I doubt much will change other than getting some advertisement pop ups from time to time...
Tired tonight, usually in bed hours ago but decided to go watch Noah play hockey..lost but still a good game, hadn't been for awhile and couldn't believe just how much he had improved...he's goalie..not so sure that's what I'd want to be, if you lose the game I'm sure you'd think it was your fault...
Remember why I don't go to hockey games..lordy, I get worked up far more than I should...doubt I'll have a voice tomorrow..
WOW, Noah and Ned are BOTH growing. Noah certainly looks a lot like you Betty ^_^
Remember well the 'voiceless Day After' hockey games .. but so much FUN !!!
Re the sale of DG .. there is ONE thing in life that is 100% certain, and, that is CHANGE. I wish the new 'owners' well, they have purchased a Crown Jewel ...
~M~
"M" kind of sad to see these little ones grow up..seems like yesterday I was grandma sitting, now they are likely to granma sit me...do have a voice today, now sure how though...
Been busy this morning..no sooner got in that June called to say she had been at the local church yesterday and the quilting group was there doing my quilt..she said it was spectacular..the top was one mom cross stitched for me..originally they said it would be $250. but because of the amount of work they are putting into it it's $350. for the quilting..they were saying that it's probably worth $1,500. too bad it's only going to come home and get put into the closet as not to damage it..stupid isn't it!
then Cathy d.mailed me, she's the lady that spend time looking after the furries while I'm away..she's been ice fishing and did she get a catch yesterday...
I take it those are 'PIKE' .. not a favourite fish up this way, but, if caught in cold water and filleted properly, I think they're A OK. Hope you enjoyed the fish and chips Betty.
Looks like it'll be an OK kinda day here .. snow is predicted later in the day .. believe when I see it .. we are, at present, in a 'snow defecit'.
Lorna starts AMP REHAB today .. so .. the house is 'a buzz' even though her appt isn't until 11am LoL
Have joined a 'class action suit' with regards to my '09 Toyota, a firm out of Toronto. Saw the lawyer in charge on the news and thought 'why not' .. I doubt anything will come of it. Have a bud wh is still awaiting some kind of settlement from a class action suit she is part of that went after the producers of VIOXX (an anti inflammatory) .. her DH passed very suddenly, had been on VIOXX for 2 years, at any rate, she has been awaiting some kind of remedy for over 6 years !!!
And so it goes ^_^
~M~
Hoping you are all enjoying some of this spring like weather!
M has AGAIN been visited by the 'SNEEZE BUG' .. I think last weekends headache was just a harbinger of this .. drats .. but .. life goes on ..
Lorna did amazingly well with physio the other day .. kind of a hurtin unit because of the extra exercises though .. but .. very happy to be starting in the program :-)
Lovely days here .. will hopefully get to the border tomorrow to pick up a package waiting for me .. been so long I kinda forget what it is I ordered LoL
Off to play cards
TGIF

Just passing though quickly. Betty, hope you are taking it easy. Carol, have been thinking about you. Hope you are fully recovered soon. Marilynne and Lorna, hope things keep improving, thinking of you often. Susan, is your sister recovered now? Linda, still waiting to see some pics of your cruise and holiday. Where is everybody else? Sorry if I missed something on any important issues, but I have been popping in to read every now and then.
I am upset too, by the changes her at DG, but I will stick it out and give it a chance. They will have to drag me out of here by my mud encrusted boots. Probably not much seed starting for me this year. Hope the seeds will keep for another year. Too many iffys in the mix this year.
~~~waving to you all. Hope you are enjoying your weekend.
Echoes - Alice's will be a long recovery - lungs are tender things, doncha know ^_^
As I told you, about my nephew, Rick - he'll have to have physio and speach therapy.
Their poor family - what a burden this January! I know Rick - he'll do the whole "stiff upper lip" thing, and will buck up, but it's got to be hard for him, living alone (he's never married). Good thing Alice & Glen live nearby, so Rick & his mom (Alice) can see each other often.
Thanks so much for thinking of them, Echoes - you're a "dear"
Susan
Just passing through as well. It's taken a week to get over the bug that I got just as we got home from our Mexican cruise.
I've put photos in a different thread, the links is here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1074278/
Best wishes for smooth recoveries to those that are needing them. I'm off to bed for a good rest hoping that it'll cure what ever else that ails me.
Linda
Loved your pics Linda :-)
Am including a link in this post that is a video done by a young fellow from Thunder Bay .. all about Thunder Bay .. filmed here by a young videographer from Thunder Bay. I almost didn't watch it as I am not a fan of RAP music, but, after the first 20 seconds , and after I realized what the lyrics were saying, well .. I watched it 4 times LoL
Gentle snowfall here today .. awesome temps ..
Enjoy your day everyone
Very bright withe out there today, even though the sun isn't shining. Think we are going to get some more flakes. We are at 1°F right now.
Hello everyone from Australia. We are getting 100 plus degree days at the moment and the Eastern States are getting lots of storms and rain. One place, Coffs Harbour had 94mm in one night, that's nearly 4inches. I live in Sth Australia in the driest state in the driest continent. We had 28mm of rain last week which was very nice after such a long time without rain. I have a very mixed garden. A lot of cacti and succulents but I have a shadehouse which has a lot of Bromeliads. I have quite a few Brugsmansias. We are way behind in the breeding of them over here and they are a bit of a novelty at the moment. I have Geraniums and pelargoniums and lots of other plants like Mandevillas and Irises and lots of fruit trees. It's amazing the contrast in our weather and until I joined DG didn't realise just how different our countries are. It's been lovely reading about what everyone has been up to. Will be back later. Colleen
Hi Colleen and welcome. We have some Brug lovers on this forum, if they ever stop by. I only have a couple of them, but I do love irises, pelargoniums and geraniums. You are lucky to have such a great source for irises. I threw out my mandevilla last week, didn't feel like fighting the mealy bugs on it. So lots of the same plants that we love in a very different climate and location. I am pretty much smack in the middle of North America.
Hello echoes. Thanks for the welcome. I find that a spray of Palmolive or Sunlight dishwashing liquid in water all over the plant, both sides of the leaves, does wonders with a lot of pests. I have 3 Mandevillas. 1white, 1pink, and 1 red and the only problem I'm having is with the sun. It's a terrible day today. It was 25 degreesCelcius when I wrote this morning and now it's 35 and very still. I expect it will go up another 10 degrees yet. I have just recieved some more Brug cuttings but I think I will leave them til tonight to pot up as it's just too hot. I had to go shopping this morning and couldn't wait to get back home. All groceries put away now so don't have to do much til 3pm when I pick my 2 grandsons up from school. Good to talk to you. Be back later. Colleen
Very humbling post .. I think Dave and his wife have an exciting future. He is obviously a man of integrity ^_^
Morning all...
Had a great weekend away..time to take on the world again..
Hello Colleen, wish I could grow brugs here but doubt I could unless I took them indoors in the winter...
Just gabbing with my sister Sharon, she is heading out to New York City Thursday as her American Eskimo dog is competing again..she is also excited about the birth of 4 puppies from sperm saved 12 years ago..hoping one will be a girl..
thought it was spring yesterday in Buffalo..what a time to visit, know next year I will be watching for Superbowl weekend..not a car going to USA and coming home, at least when we were there...
So what have you all been up to..bitter cold here today, expecting snow by tomorrow or Wednesday
Betty guess it must be Westminster time! Better check the dates although I dont think we get it live.
Interesting weather here, chilly and frosty and because the sun has not been out for a couple of days all the trees and shrubs have remained frosty. I live in an older neighborhood with lots of small homes and big trees and there is a curious ghostly look as one drives down all white streets!
Otherwise all going well here, I started to drive again late last week so am mobile and emjoying getting out even if only t go to safeway. Bought flowers today! It is time for primroses - I always buy quite a few then repot them as they get very rootbound and nurse them thru until I can plant out in May. Not so big and hardy as my others but they still flower.
Yes it is Westminster time..Sharon leaves on Saturday..think her dog competes Monday and Tuesday, not sure...I also purchased several plants at the Garden Gallery last week, having them here and there throughout the house makes us think 'spring'
Had Kyle over to connect me Wii and teach me how to use it..Noah was at hockey, they won this series, on to the next in Listowell..3 hr. drive one way on the weekend..team is doing great..anyway, when Melanie (DIL) came in, was telling her about Sharon's dog, pregnant with 4 pups, scheduled to be born on the 15th and her being away in N.Y.C. - then mentioned about the semen being 12 years old and from another one of her dogs who passed on several years ago...I said 'isn't science something' and Noah who is 11 said 'have not yet learnt grandma that kind of science'...too cute!
Well, been up since 4am..tired, am hoping to finally get a good nights' rest...
Good Lord willing we'll gab tomorrow
Hiya ^_^
Had an article in our local paper re a Great Dane who is going to be shown at Westminster ... best of luck to Sharon Betty, and yes, isn't science absolutely amazing !!!
Lorna wasn't able to be fitted with the air filled 'fake leg' yesterday at her physio appt, kinda disappointing, but the therapist is going to look into getting a different sized 'sleeve' .. otherwise she is working hard and doing bunches of exercises daily, she's certainly motivated ..
Our weather is nothing short of GRAND ^_^
Sunny days with temps peaking out at -5C .. the birds are becoming more prolific by the day!!
Taking my 2009 Toyota in this morning for its 'FIX' .. won't know if it was one of the affected until after its 'surgery'.
Nice to hear your mobility is increasing Carol .. as Lorna says 'slow and steady wins the race' :-)
Take care all
~M~
Guess Lorna was disappointed..will she have to wait long for the other sleeve? not sure what that is though..
Listening intently at the recalls knowing you have same vehicle..are you worried when driving it?
It's -15 here with windchill, doesn't feel that cold...calling for snow late afternoon, but the sun is shinning, roads are clear, bright blue sky..lordy, the USA has had our winter this year and for us (at least me) it's been a breeze..best not brag about it, still 1/2 of Feb. and all of March..just think, we can say spring is just next month..isn't that fantastic...
Oh to be out gardening..
Not sure I told you, but on my trip to Buffalo on the weekend there was the cutest off white metal patio set, thought it would look fantastic on the back bedroom deck so home it came..just have to make cushions for it..
Of course Fabricland has a great sale on this weekend so will pick up the canvas and make them, first sign of snow, out on the back deck it will go...lol..
Lordy, even bought grass seed, can you tell I'm excited?
Guess I better check the Fabricland sale and pay a visit.
I am always on the hunt for camoflage fleece/denim for dog beds and not all stores have same stock so I really need to do the rounds - 4 stores here in Calgary! I use lots of other patterns too - really like working with the plaids since it gives me straight lines to follow! but I have customer who needs a constant supply ( dog boarding /rescue boarding/house dogs) and only wants the traditional camo patterns.
I'll check for the camouflage fleece when I go Carol..you must have those beds down to a 't' with all that you do..how many yards does it take to do 1?
Jeff, my youngest asked for a rag quilt so while in Buffalo this past weekend bought the flannel yardage - golf theme, was thrilled to find it, even more thrilled at $2.49 a yard..
Love the fact you can sew Betty and Carol .. it is something you MUST cherish .. like Ann and Susan with music.
SO .. I am not a HUGE fan of change .. but .. I am also not unable to give 'something else' a shot :-)
Been a very busy day here and have baking to do for an AIDS Thunder Bay Valentines Bake Sale ... so .. off I go ^_^
~M~
I always thought that there wasn't really a place for people living in the coldest zones, her at DG. I don't want, or expect it to take anyone away from here. I like it here.
Most I make are 30x36 or 24x30 or smaller to roughly fit crate sizes ( dog crates are really odd sizes!).Fleece is 60 inchesI usually buy 2-4 yards and can get 8 small beds or 4 medium beds out of 4 yards.
Sometime I make pattern top plain bottom all fleece , sometimes I put denim on one side .
I dont really cut to size I just estimate and cut so I dont waste any material. Fleece is almost always on sale, one kind or another, denium not usually and I never buy batting unless it is on 50% off which is usually once a month- that is the most expensive part of the beds as I buy the one that normally costs about $12/metre and I double layer it.
I'm over there too, but just barely. I'm a bit afraid to get heavily involved in yet another time consuming web site. Haven't said much lately, but I'm still here lurking. Have a good night.
Ann
Good morning ^_^
I think I'm like Ann right now, I really don't need another place to post, and like you, I like it here ..
Wolves are howling to the north this morning .. Lilly was out and back in real quick this morning . today is her 3rd BDay !!
Early visit to the Hospice office this morning, then off to physio with Lorna and baking to drop off after that ....
Enjoy your day
~M~
Same with me, there, but so like my friends here that I lurk from time to time but home is here with you all...
Carol, sounds like a lot of work..do you have more fabric shops than Fabricland in your area? Had a lovely one in Midland, gentleman passed away and his wife sold the building..another quilt shop opened, but lordy you have to mortgage the house to buy fabric there..most is in the $20.00 per meter range...prints are fantastic but not for me..
Last night on t.v. bingo, didn't win, they were giving out a sewing machine..said on the main street in Midland a new shop had opened, you can bet I'll be there Friday afternoon...
It's lightly snowing right now, maybe we've missed the worse of the storm, hope so..I'm the only one in so far, if I didn't know it was a holiday on Monday I'd be asking myself if it was a holiday today..sure they will be here shortly...
Little nauseated, sure hope I'm not coming down with what Aunt Muriel, Greg and LeeAnn have..
Sooo, being a long weekend, what are your plans? or does your province celebrate Family Day on Monday..
Trying to get with family this time of year just doesn't work..it's hockey/skiing/snowmobile trips...should have made it in the summer but it will give us a winter break won't it?
When I was in Buffalo on the weekend I purchased flannel to make rag quilt for the boys (slap me silly-for Christmas) golf design, think I just might work on it this weekend, especially if we have snow each and every day...I'll just relax and enjoy..
Ohhh did play on the Wii this morning for 1/2 hr. - starting a daily exercise program..played bowling..even though it's not real bowling, muscles from playing it with Kyle are aching..now how can that be?
Stay safe - if weather is bad, find something you've been putting off and enjoy
Betty yes but I dont make them constantly. Just had about a 2 months 'session' before Xmas as we had a fundraiser early Jan. I have a system that works pretty well, sort of a production line , Cut everything, layer everything, pin layers so ready to sew, set up sewing machine in kitchen( nice and light instead of basement) and sew 2-3 a day, goes pretty quickly. Now I wont be making any for some months, we sold about 20 beds and have enought let over for next fundraiser. Then I will make more!
Just Fabricland here for my purposes. Some others not suitable. Fanny's closed years ago so pretty much a monopoly.
A bit of melting going on here yesterday and probably the next few days so snow on the streets continues to disappear slowly.
Visited with a friend/foster home yesterday to get pics of one of her dogs and our really really shy , scared of humans foster dog. Inch by inch he is making progress but it is very slow. Next week we take him to a vet behavioural specialist and hope to get him on some anti-anxiety meds to reduce his fear of humans and makeit easier for him to settle in. We expect it will be a long time before we consider him adoptable and will need a special home. He is a cutie and loves to lay with the other dogs in the yard..
better click off that photo immediately...or...you'd have a home for him..
When I got Sailor (border collie) she was much the same, now, loves people! How old?
what a cutie, Carol!
If I were to get a dog, I'd either get a pom or a sheltie!
Animals just love my DH Bob.
We had neighbours with a skittish cat - hid from everyone and it would claw and spit... They went out of town, and asked me to take her in. I was just starting to date Bob & next thing we knew, the cat was in his lap, purring!
They were astounded, cuz besides the two of them, only one of their friends could get anywhere Near the cat.
This gave me an inkling into the type of person he was/is.
I hope the darling Sheltie gets help from the vet behavioural specialist, and the meds help. I suppose he's ok with having his picture taken? He looks ok...... I'm sure having other dogs around helps him to acclimatize with you, Carol, but you're also a very gentle person (smelling of dogs, no less) and I'll bet that helps him alot ^_^
Susan
Can just see you and Bob with neighborhood 'kitties' Susan...animals know who is fond of animals and who is not...
Yep, I'd take him in a sec Carol but promised myself no more dogs after Sailor at least until I'll not travel again
He is not with me but in another foster home with younger dogs who will play with him.
Being outside with a pack of dogs is the way he has lived for most of his life ( 18 months) so that is no problem. But he has had very little human contact and no real socialisation so that is the issue. As for the pic actually he was backed into that corner hoping I would not come any closer!
Poor dear, bet he'll eventually make someone a fantastic friend...have you had success in similar situations
Some success Betty but when they are this shy with no socialisation it often just does not happen or could take months and even years of work. The worst one we had so far was in foster care for 6 months, only bonded with the 18 yr old daughter of the house ( who was really the foster person in the home!) and then she asked to adopt him and took him with her when she went away to university. They seem to be doing well last I heard but he will never be a social dog. Actually we were rather relieved when she wanted to keep him since he was virtually unadoptable.
