What's Happening in your neck of the woods? Friends...

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I found quite a few of us in that picture. I'm there, Dorothy, Molly, Lainey, - many. He's got a lot of coffee people there.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Glad you made the list girls...exciting for you all....nice photo..

What kind of cards were you playing "M"...exciting to get new treasures..see now, you just rid yourself of quite a lot and already found a home for more...lol

This morning, Kyle and Noah DGS called me over to see their new Goldendoodle...going to name him Ned..not so sure Sophie likes a new brother but am sure with time they'll be best of friends...

Ned is a lovely 'cinnamon colour' .. he accents Sophie who is, by the way, a beauty ^_^

We play 2 games ... one is called Skip Bo .. and the other is Phase 10 .. Lorna's parents play cards every night .. her Mom is a Canadian Bridge champion .. I don;t know how to play bridge. When they were here in October they TRIED to teach me how to play Euchre .. DUH .. I just couldn't catch on to it .. at 80 they are both as bright as new pennies and I am sure playing cards is the reason.

Nice to see a post from you Ann .. was wondering if you were OK .. also keeping Carol close in my thoughts .. hope she's doing OK .

Off to watch 'DOUBT' a movie staring Meryl Streep ..

Take care all

I need some google search help - TONIGHT!
I'm doing the children's story tomorrow morning (I found this out this afternoon...)
and I need a children's colouring page, depicting that we are all the body of Christ.
I've searched all kinds of sites, and can't find anything for little children about it.

Or 1st Corinthians - that would be a good one.
I know what I'm going to say, and the song is "Jesus bids us shine" which goes on the back of the sheet.

btw - someone else was to do the story, and she told the "keeper of the list" she couldn't, last sunday. Guess what? "the keeper" didn't bother to find anyone else, sooooooooo I volunteered, hoping I'd find an appropriate picture, but I can't.

PLEASE HELP ME FIND ONE!

Oooh Susan, see you are up late or are you up early? fretting about your children's group this morning...haven't found a picture but am hoping by now you are all organized...I'm sure you'll come up with something seeing as you are creative...

"M" I love playing Euchre..when Roger was alive we'd go to his mom and dad's almost every Sunday for supper, no sooner was the table cleared it was Euchre..my only problem is they put my with FIL who could tell you what cards were played, which cards were in the hand and of course I seemed to ALWAYS play the wrong card...we french in our communities always played '58' you had to bet that you and your partner would make the points required in the suit you chose...similar to Euchre...don't know either of the card games you play but I'm sure Lorna enjoys you taking time to play with her...

Bitter cold out there this morning...lot's to burn in the firepit this morning, should keep me warm while I store yet more boxes into back shed...

Hope you are all ok, have interesting things planned for the day..me??? was going to stay in my jammies until I saw a flyer from Fabricland saying it was my last chance to get material at 75% off...too bad their store doesn't open until noon..drats, screws up the day..why malls don't allow some stores to open earlier is beyond me...

Well it's breakfast time...porridge it is..

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

LORDIE .. the storm we MISSED overnight has come back and we are getting a sinificant snowfall after having had rain an drizzle this morning.
WAS going to go into the city to meet some friends for lunch, but have postponed that fer sure !!

Betty .. hope you found some material you like .. and .. Susan .. how'd you make out with the Colouring page ?

Keeping Carol close in thought ..

Off to prepare a 'roasta beastie' and put it in the oven for supper

Stay warm and dry

"M" lots I could have bought but I've cupboards full as it is so purchased braid for the footstool I recovered..was cleaning a corner and there it was sitting pretty since last years' garage sales..looked in my supplies and there was the perfect covering..took about all of 10 minutes to recover...other than that I bought Fabricland Recipe Book, bought one last week and was amazed at the recipe's..always in one swap or another so thought I should stock up..supplies for 5 more thread catchers .. all total spent $18.76 so not a big shopping spree..lol saving that for my trip across the border in the next few weeks, just love shopping at Joanne's Fabrics..

Going out for supper, its raining right now but if I see it freezing up over the next few hours might have to cancel..only 20 minutes away but that's far when you've freezing rain...glad you played it safe and stayed home...

Going to go sit for the next couple of hours, had a sweatshirt that I started but never finished, this morning I cut out the areas that I sewed, pretty fall leaves show brightly on the yellow t-shirt, about 20 minutes to sew in the ends and voila, I'll be able to wear it tomorrow...

Sure hope "M" that Diane and her hubby are cooking a roast beef dinner..they are excellent cooks and bakers...might have to cheat a little...

Be safe everyone...know many of you are having bad weather...

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Julie/Jar617 found a few colouring pages, and I used one that depited a cross with people all throughout it. I double-side printed it with a children's song on the back, and it was a big hit with the pastor and kids.
I "winged" it, and told a story that linked in with the pastor's message (1st Corinthians - the body of Christ) and the congregation loved it. The only kids that came were 5 & 4 yrs old, and I kept it simple of course.
I think the congregation was surprised I kept it at their level, but I'm really a big kid at heart, so it was easy. LOL

Glad it all worked out for you Susan ..

Kinda having little 'brown outs' here .. guess the lines are either iced or, the snow laden evergreen branches are causing problems .. have had no Satellite for the afternoon, a perfect chance for cupboard cleaning, BUT, I popped my Eagles Final Tour CD into the player and spent close to 2 hours enjoying them and their music .. what a lift !!! The concert was from Australia, and I was AMAZED at the number of people in attendance and the variance in ages !!

May watch a movie tonight .. DOUBT with Meryl Streep was a BUST!!! Weak plot for a wonderful actress .. the one we have is, I believe, CHERI .. with Michelle Pfiffer .. set WAY back when ..

Hope all of you have had a wonderful day ..
Still snow/raining here .. probably treacherous driving tomorrow ...

Heavy rain since yesterday, so foggy this morning I almost missed my cut off..sad that I didn't.. - weatherman was saying we've less than 1/4 of snow that we received in same time as last year...ok by me, although I'm sure my boys are crying..not great snowmobile weather..

Susan, don't do tooooo good of a job otherwise you'll be doing it every Sunday..knew you'd be great at it..

Quiet day here, thank goodness I'm on to doing an afghan for myself...keeps me occupied..

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - couldn't do it every Sunday - they have a roster of several people, and the same for the Scripture readings. I wouldn't "horn in" and do it all - it wouldn't be fair to others who want a turn. I must admit tho - the Children's Time roster doesn't have as many people, because there's more work to it (research on a song, colouring sheet, and the story appropriate to the sermon and ages of the children......).
We won't have such a full weekend as we did this one, until closer to Easter - Thank Goodness!! The Robbie Burns dinner, choir practice, AND the Children's Time was ENUFF for me!!! LOL

Hope everyone has a fabulous day!!

chat atcha later!

Robbie Burns day today isn't it Susan..

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

1759: Robert Burns, famed Scottish poet and lyricist, was born near Ayr. His father was a farmer and market gardener and many of Burns works allude to his childhood spent in the Scottish countryside.

The above was on the Dave's site this morning .. would make Ol'Robbie 251 yrs old today !! I feel about that old after having tried to help shovel the extremely WET snow we have had, and that is re visiting us as I type this .. will take a couple of pics to post. We have internet, but no TV as the satellites are both inoperable .. for once the CDs are getting played ..
Schools are closed out this way, can hear the joyous squeals of the 2 little ones up the road, they're building a snowman .. PEREFCT snow to make one with ..

I keep walking past 'the cupboard' .. only 3 more shelves to do .. just MAYBE this afternoon I will git er done ..
Noticed my linen closet is also getting unkempt .. that shouldn't take anytime at all though .. just a matter of rearranging sheets and towels .. AND .. maybe hidden treasures ^_^

Best make Lilly some lunch, she's probably worked up an appetite from all the rolling around in the snow she's been doing.

Cheers all

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

You'd wonder "M" how those linen closets get so unkept when normally it's just 'we' who are in them...that's one thing living alone, can't blame anyone else...lol

Looked as though it was going to snow but it's now raining..sure making a mess out there...

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Betty .. my linen closet has become home to a variety of NON linen goods .. pamphlets and hand outs from courses I have taken, nursing journals I receive .. yer right, only ME to blam ^_^

Am going to attach a few pics of the 'mess' here .. the temps were nice up til about an hour ago, the wind turned from SE and started to come from the NW .. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ....

Took this last pic on New Years day as I went to clean up the hearth area (an ongoing task) .. THIS is what we should ALL be doing today .. I'll put the kettle on :-)

You've certainly got more snow than we, you can actually see grass in a lot of places in my yard..

Went to Garden Gallery to look around at lunch, wow, talk about pain, first time I decided I'd better take the nitro..gosh this getting old is just marvellous...

Was talking to sister Sharon, same puppy that won 'best of breed' in NYC last year is showing again mid Feb. in N.Y.C. Sharon's had a rough time with losing 2 of her dogs...she just told me she impregnated one of her dogs with 12 year old sperm, imagine..they can see 4 pups..to be born on the 15th of Feb....imagine..

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'll 2nd that..lol

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Betty .. be aware .. the nitro will take the pain away .. BUT .. you will likely get a headache ..

What wonderful news re the pups!! Did I tell you we MAY get a phonecall some day soon telling us Lilly's Aunt "Princess' will have had her litter !!! We are on the list for another Westie gurl .. turned one down in November( a lil boy) as Lorna was JUST home from hospital and we all thought it'd be tough for a little pup to assimilate .. ie .. Lorna was paranoid she'd run it over in the wheelchair !!! She's more confident now, and, i think the pup would do us all good :-) .. hopefully Lilly and Smokey will feel the same way LoL

Off to whip up some kind of cullinary miracle .. roasta beastie left overs .. am thinking they may become Noodle stir fry !!

Yes, Jan 25th is RB's birthday.

Just popped in to say "HI" and get scooting back to work.
Chat atcha later!!

Susan

Victoria Harbour, ON

How wonderful..will have to ask my brother Mike to forward me photo's of his 2 westies...that's quite an undertaking, a 'puppy' all the training ..but what joy it will bring you all...

As for the nitro, yep, have a bit of a headache, going home, going straight to bed...

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Hope you got some GOOD rest Betty ..

Yes, it will be quite an undertaking with a new puppy, but, Lilly had only FOUR oopsies in the house !! She was crate trained and knew that once she was out of the crate .. she was OUT the door to do her business .. IF theis pup does materialize .. lets pray it'd be that easy again ..

What a noise outside this morning !!! The trees are encased in ice and frozen snow, the temps have nose dived and the wind is blowing and the tree branches are either shaking off the ice .. OR .. breaking :-( too difficult to see right now. Sounds ominous !!!

Lorna got the 'green light' to be re assessed for physio yesterday .. she talked with the physiotherapist in charge of the Amp program, and they want her in to start doing cardio work outs at least. She lifts weight here at home twice a day .. so .. I guess we can say .. THINGS are happening :-)

Stay warm and well everyone :-)

~M~

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

I have a question .. well actually I always have LOTS of questions :-)

Has anyone ever accessed the 'Videos' on Dave's ?

Since I am trying to find ways of avoiding the ongoing task of cupboard re organizing, I thought I'd look at a video on Pruning House plants, something innocuous and relatively inexpensive, AND, I have the tools needed !!
Well .. I can't get the video (s) to play ..
How bout you ?

~M~

Anyone hear from Fancyvan (Carol)? Does anyone know how long she was going to be in the hospital for her surgery last week?

Ottawa Symphony concert last night is over. That means the marathon of rehearsals - 4 over the weekend and yesterday noon - is over too and I can get back to catching up on DG. Fell on the ice in December and it was a bit questionable whether I should do the concert last night, but when I analyzed the music there was just one really technically difficult section - the last movement of the Bartók Concerto for Orchestra. The rest of the music was mostly mentally challenging - counting irregular rhythms and playing (or trying to play) at the appropriate time.

Ann

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Ann did you tell us you'd fallen? Am sure with your hectic schedule you didn't take enough rest time...heard on the weather chanel that your area got your share and our share of rain? had about 2" of snow during the night, light and fluffy, roads are so icy seeing as the temps have fallen but clear sky is shown for the next week..lordy, by then we'll be in February and winter will all but be over..just joking of course, Feb/March are our worse months...

"M", did access then once..do you thing maybe with the new changeover they might not be operational?

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Betty - I fell before I went to Vancouver - found some loose snow on top of ice. The wrist seemed to be doing well until I did my first aquafit class after Christmas.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

No, Joanne - I hadn't heard, and I'm getting concerned.
I've got her # at home, so I'll call her when I'm off work......

I hope she's recovering alright......
It was elective surgery she said.

Susan

Victoria Harbour, ON

takes time to heal for sure...was just saying, after the dusting of snow, all the melting this week, water everywhere then the temps drastically falling that it's dangerous to walk..will have to pick up some melting salt so the girls who come to paint tomorrow won't fall..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Would have thought Susan she'd have posted a 'hi'

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I'll call her tonight - she could be resting, or hurting.....
I won't make any suppositions.

Susan

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I called her house & no answer

thanks girls

Popped in to say I have Dmailed Carol and no reply but I did say she didn't need to.
I hope she is resting and well maybe just too tired to get on the computer.

Perhaps she'll pop in this aft.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

I have had Carol near in thought for days. Thanks Susan, Joanne and Ann for having tried to to contact her.

Ann .. after our rain/slush/snow after the last 36 hours, the Emerg here is burgeoning with fractured wrists, ankles and knees .. glad you were able to play your instrument.

DH has a cold .. head cold .. made some turkey soup, not chicken, but I rarely keep a chicken carcass .. smells OK .. has lotsa good stuff in it ..

take care all
