What's Happening in your neck of the woods? Friends...

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I got through to Carol's - she's resting, and a friend answered.
She just got home from the hospital today, because she had complications.
I don't know any more than that, but her friend said they picked her up today, and she's doing fine.
She'll be calling me at another time, so I may have some news before she comes online - of course it will depend how she feels....... before she gets online, that is.

Nice to hear from Carol .. hope her recovery time is quick and uncomplicated ^_^

Wind chills of -30 here today and tomorrow, but, at least it'll be sunny.
The ice continues to fall off the tree branches .. if falls and breaks when it hits ground, sounds like somebody is breaking fine china or crystal .. glad the vehicles are in a garage ..

Off on a jaunt to the city today ..

Stay well all

Morning all,

Snowing and blowing out there..decided to leave an hour early so there will be no stress in the driving to work...

Appt. yesterday with Dr. Fahy said I must at least for now 'curtail my activities' now that's easier said than done..not thrilled about all the meds nor am I thrilled with having meds that slow the heartbeat...

As I drove to his office I remembered seeing him before..during our visit which I must say astounded me, I could have spent the afternoon as he was gracious enough to sit and talk and not rush me out..just before my leaving he said, 'Liz, you've got quite a sense of humour' don't know where he got the Liz, guess because it said Elizabeth on the chart..anyway he says 'you are NOT the kind of patient I like having' wow, wonder why I'm thinking, he goes through his chart and says 'it's been 15 yrs. since your last visit - we doctors have to make a living' then he starts laughing along with me...asked him to check his chart why I was there 15 yrs. ago...same thing...

Not sure I'll just sit on the chesterfield and veg though but light activities should be fine...told me to keep my trusted nitro in my pocket, make sure I'm either sitting or laying down when taking it and made me promise that after a few shots if the pain didn't ease that I'm to go to the hospital..promised - stress test not until March 22, 2010..

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Good morning from FREEZING to the MAX Thunder Bay !!! As I type this, the sun is rising nicely and the temp, WITH windchill, is -37 !!!!!!!!!
I am dreading hearing Lilly'.s little feet coming down the hallway. She sleeps in each morning, almost like she KNOWS it's cold outside..
The gas furnace is going, and the woodstove is stoked .. a rare occurrence.

Betty .. bummer to be on the heart meds, but, better you do have them .. the alternative isn't a nice thing.
The docs (cardiologists) kind of frown on heavy lifting. It produces much stress on the heart .. thinkin youll be fine 'LIZ' ..

WAS going to go into the city today .. but .. with temps like this .. I think another cupboard is going to meet with 'Marilynne the Mess lessener' LoL

OH !!!!!!! Am I not just SO DELIGHTED that I bought a 2009 TOYOTA Corolla last year !!!! NOT .. now I'm afraid to drive it because of the recall re the 'sticking accelerator ' ..

Best put some shoes on .. feet are cold ..

Take care all

Is your "M" on recall? it's -9 without windchill factor here...had about 3 inches of light fluffy snow last night, winds are up- saying up to 60klm later today, some areas were difficult driving, no visibility..helps when you leave 1 hr. early, take your time and sit out the wind from time to time...

Stay in, stay cozy and remember, when it's gardening time you'll not have to worry about inside cleaning...

Ohhh this week I've already visited the Garden Gallery..so much decorative supplies/plants/ideas...might have to go again today..great way to stay fit, walking in such glorious spring decor..

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

My Toyota will be one of the 'recallees' .. and I am kind of a bit ticked as I had the vehicle in to have a tiny rust spot painted just last week .. I wonder if they knew then about the impending recall ?? Kind of maddening if they did and they didn't offer to repair it then !! I am very disappointed with the recall .. one of the selling points of my car was that it was Canadian made .. too bad the PARTS were made in China !!! As most of you know, I spent lots of time researching cars before I made my decision to purchase a Toyota .. ahh well .. life can just be so darned interesting ..

I 'think' I may have the flu :-( have been fighting a low grade headache for 2 days now .. trust me .. I have NO time to be sick !!!

Off and running .. well .. walking .. too cold to run LoL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh 'M' best you get on your jammies and take care of yourself...

Heard a few specialist come on the radio this morning and talk about the recall..they don't sound overly concerned...they were saying that getting the parts out to dealerships for repair will be quite a task...can understand though your being troubled about driving it...

Talk about cold..brrrr...dropped into Fabricland tonight and got material for some projects, last night picked up more wool..figure there is no reason for me to get out of my jammies all weekend...just enjoy...

Hope you are all ok, not in any storm..doing what you all want to do, after all it's Friday and there's a weekend ahead of us...

Enjoy the evening

Hi All.

I'll catch up on the posts soon.
We're home, had a great time on the cruise, and am in middle of 'the Norwalk" like bug that was on the ship the last few days.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Getting settled back into the normal routines here.

My 'private nurse' went home last evening ( she really is a retired nurse!) and the dogs came home this afternoon.

I have been sitting at the computer most of the morning doing lots of catch up. Have some things I really need to do but no particular enthusiasim about doing much except read or short messages!

Feeling well but have some weight restrictions and will not drive for a few more days but on the other hand there is virtually nothing I truly need!

Weather has been rather nice here, temps up near freezing, some sun and blue sky.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

So good to see you posting again, Carol ^_^
Nice to have a friend who's a private nurse, eh? lol
Just have to be careful the dogs don't jump up on you because they're excited to see you again. They must have missed you, as you did, them........

Welcome home Carol, let us know if you need anything... I think of you daily as your amaryllis Pappillion is ready to burst into bloom any minute.

Ann, the coolest thing, my friend from Vancouver who is a fabulous cello teacher is here to teach for our Amici program this weekend. Turns out she was at your Ottawa Symphony concert to hear her student perform! She was raving about your Bartok concerto for orchestra (one of my favorite pieces of all time BTW). Is it a small world or what?!!

Working too hard but enjoying the lurking on this thread as always......

Theresa

Hi everyone .. and so nice to have both Carol and Linda back with us.

My 'flu' contunues to be confined to my head .. low grade headache that, at times, flares into a mid grade one. I really do have compassion + for anyone who suffers from migraines .. I'm in no way incapacitated ... have restricted a BIT of activity, but , today I plan to get a bit more busy as I have baking to do for an event I was asked to donate to.

Watched 'JULIE and JULIA' with Meryl Streep, a 'feel good' movie .. really enjoyed it, a long time since I have been able to say THAT about a movie.

Hope you all enjoy your day

Wish I could send you all some homemade chicken soup, good for healing grandmother always said..all of you, don't overdo..spring is what 48 days away soooo enjoy resting and re-cooping so that you are all in prime shape for those gardens...

Don't you just love looking outside, from memory trying to remember what lays just below the bed of snow...wondering just how many of our new treasures will make the winter sleep?

It's more than cold outside, am enjoying staying in my jammies, making thread/scrap catchers for the upcoming Winterama weekend craft sale..I'm not into it but June asked me if I could make a few..well, if all goes well, by tonight I should have 25 made...lol...now what to charge..materials cost about $6.50 hmmmm another decision..I'm not good at that, usually prefer to give them away..what doesn't sell will be exactly that, put into cupboards for swaps and gift items should I need them so not a waste...in between, taking a break I sit and make more blocks for my crochet afghan..I've 10 of 15 rows done so most likely will finish mine this week...

Almost time to watch Joel Olsteen Ministries..gab later..hope you all have a sunshine day regardless if it's outside or inside...

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

good morning, all
Just popped in to say HI

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Theresa - that IS a small world. But I guess not so surprising if she was Brian's teacher before he moved to Ottawa to study. So glad she liked the performance. And I agree, questionable wrist or not, I didn't want to miss my last chance ever (most likely) to play the Bartók. Concerto for Orchestra doesn't come up all that often. (Only twice for me).

On the page that I termed the 4th finger etude (attached), the conductor kept telling us to play softer; so I stopped practicing it (it DID bother the wrist). I played the beginning and end and air-bowed the harry part in the middle which didn't feel good on the wrist. And then concentrated on nailing the loud part at the bottom of the page.

My handbells played this morning in church and really did a wonderful job. A bright, snappy arrangement of Standin' in the Need of Prayer with clarinet. Our congregation is usually pretty good about NOT applauding during worship but they couldn't contain themselves on this one. We also had a couple of kids dancing in the aisles. I may not have pointed you folks here to the soundclip for this piece, but there is one at: http://www.handbellworld.com/music/MusicPiece.cfm?piece=12257 Just click on the yellow bell.

Glad to hear that Carol is improving. Waving to everyone else ~~~~~

Making cranberry-orange marmalade this afternoon and I need to get back at it.

Oh that was lovely Ann. I was rocking in my chair and if I had been in your church I would have danced in the aisles too.
Never understand how people can sit still thru some of these pieces. I recall an orchestra concer at the NAC when I still lived in Ottawa and they ended with the Rosencavalier excerpts and I really wanted to get up and dance!
Coming along nicely here, a bit of a down day which is typical after a Gen A. Snowed a bit overnight and a neighbor came and shvelled all the walks this morning. The dogs wont get walked today but they will survive!
Good news on the doggy front, of the 3 pups (of 5 dogs) we took in 2 weeks ago 1 was adopted yesterday, 1 has an adoption pending!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Cranberry-(Seville) orange marmalade is done. this year's batch yielded 5 pints and nearly 8 jelly jars. :-)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Viola that's beautiful..I'm so envious of all who can play an instrument or sing..it must be so overwhelming to hear such sound and knowing you are part of it...

Maybe instead of doing crafts if my memory was a bit better I could get Cliff (Bernice's DH) to teach me piano...doubt he could teach this old gal to play...always wanted to though...my youngest can play almost any instrument..takes after my dad and his dad's side of the family...his favorite is guitar - playing classical..you never see him visit without one of his instruments...

High powered job, says it's how he deals with every day life, his way of calming down....

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

SIGH .. couldn't get the music to play .. clicked on the bell .. but nothing happened.
Very interesting to see it was arranged by V. Stephenson .. gonna have to look into that one ^_^

I am my own worst enemy !!!! Did WAY too much .. once supper is a gustatorial memory , I think bed will be my destination ...

Ann .. the Marmalade sounds wonderful !!!!

If Ann would share her marmalade for toast "M" we could both go to bed fealing content..sorry to hear you are still not feeling well...

It's that time of night..bed sounds good to me...you've tempted me into having toast and jam though, might even be store bought marmalade...

I've had a productive day...

Just finished 25 thread/scrap catchers..

Marilynne - usually when I click on the bell it asks me whether I want to save the file or open it. I've downloaded quite a few. If you want to D-mail me your email address, I can attach the sound file in an email.

I'm afraid I'll have to share cyber-marmalade. At least it's calorie-free.

BTW, with all the concern over the most recent sale of DG, the Coffee people are compiling a list of contact info. Should we do something similar?

Have a good night.

Ann

Calgary, Canada

Ha, I remember that page of the Bartok Ann! It is insane. But I know what you mean about Concerto for Orchestra. It has been one of my very favorite pieces since I was a teenager.

I got one of those very last minute Calgary Philharmonic calls this week. It was excellent fun!

You all amaze me with your marmalade and sewing and art projects.

Happy end of January, the gardening days are getting closer!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, spring is coming..think we're down to 47, that's not bad..tomorrow we'll get good news from Wiarton Willie..albino groundhog..sure he'll say spring is right aruond the corner! Image, group of animal rights activist trying to free 'Willie' says he shouldn't be in captivity? gee whiz, he's got a dentist, a doctor, a groomer, someone to clean his home everyday, he's fed the best of foods, think they even bring in a mate from time to time...and they say he's being mistreated...

Brings the town quite a lot of revenue, more than 10,000 attend the event... oh well I'd better stop rambling, time to organize my thoughts on what I'll try to achieve this week, have my coffee and get ready to head out..we've had about 3 or 4 inches of snow, it's blowing out there but doubt they are calling for anything major..

Hope you are all warm and cozy, enjoying your beauty sleep...gab later

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

RABBIT, RABBIT everyone .. happy 1st of February !!!!

Ann .. DG is 'SOLD' ? FIrst time I have heard. Is there somewhere to read the specifics of the sale? Am just curious as to whether the site will change that drastically, it surely has been a fount of info for me for so many varied subjects.

Cool one here today .. BUT .. I feel better today!!

Betty your sewing items look so colourful .. good luck with selling them ^_^

Not sure what is up today, have donation stuff to take here and there, so, that may be on the agenda. Lorna is driving now .. docs said there was no problem with that what so ever. Was kind of nerve wracking the first time, but now it's sort of 'ho hum', biggest deal is getting her in and out of the drivers seat, and, we seem to have managed that fairly well .. she can't drive alone as she needs that assistance, am sure once she gets into rehab (this Wednesday) they will show her how to accomplish the task.

Will be listening for Ground Hog Reports ~~~

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Are you feeling better today "M"? weatherman said you guys were getting -34..yikes, better stay inside..

Snowing but lightly, roads are ice covered so you have to be alert when driving..

Lorna must feel as though she's got her life back, being able to drive herself...as long as she doesn't overdo..

Lots of appts. today, everyone will be run of their feet except for me, I get to crochet..lol

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Marilyn there are several very long threads about this in the DavesGarden Forum.

keyed in incorrect info and got the following link saying DG was for sale, perhaps the main page hasn't been changed to reflect the purchase

Hi Don...enjoying your winter?

http://www.daavesgarden.com/

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

You've got two A's in Dave.

Victoria Harbour, ON

yes, but when it showed me the main DG page it said DG was for sale...

Ann, what are your thoughts on this man???

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6dTeQwf488&feature=related

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Betty - the site http://daavesgarden.com/ appears to want to sell the domain name with two a's in it. That has nothing at all to do with http://davesgarden.com/ which I'm sure the owners are on top of keep the correct domain name registered.

There are all sorts of domain names out there - I maintain one for the Canadian Viola Society at www.viola.ca. The variations can be nearly endless. Sometimes people buy up a lot of names and hope to peddle them to other people down the line. But that particular site has nothing at all to do with DG.

As for the link above in your post - interesting. I suspect the sound was recorded elsewhere and spliced in. Maybe he can make that kind of sound with a leaf, but it sounded really miked to me.

A message from a representative of the new owner of DG

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

the "Domain" Daavesgarden is for sale - I don't believe it means our Davesgarden.
There are so many domains out there that are similar to others. Several times I've keyed in a similar, but wrong, company name and gotten the "domain is for sale" and it's got nothing to do with the company I'm looking for.
No worries, Betty!!

Susan

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Not saying much here .. seems to be lots of animosity throughout the forums .. I plan to take a 'wait and see' stance .. in reality .. short of leaving the site, I think that would be all that you could do .. that's kind of like cutting off your nose to spite your face though . Besides .. my subscrip to the site is good til August ...
