Hello everyone. Good to see you with us Ride. We don't fuss at anyone here, the ones out there are the rule enforcers (mostly their own rules). Our rules are to HAVE FUN AND help out your fellow man or WOman. We just got these new "digs" and some haven't found us just yet. We got booted for talking too much too, by the same crowd. I just realized how mislead I was by WHO runs this place. I always THOUGHT it was DG team. Well, it seems to be self appointed police. How ever we try to keep peace.
I do think your flower is purple hyacinth bean mine had bloomed for long it was filling with seed pods. I have it in white also. A bird could have dropped the seed and they will grow just about anywhere.
there is a pea vine that it could be as well. Can you show the leaf of yours again? Is it heart shaped, green with maybe purple veins around it.

Veggie auction, same rules as last time but Surprises for Heirloom Seeds.. Me as the auctioneer! I always wanted to be an auctioneer.. It's amazing to watch them, lol!

Ride, welocome and looks like you're going to fit in just fine here. We do and say what we want to here and have fun.. we are like a big gardening family here and we look out for each other.. We share knowledge, plants, seeds, chit- chat, whatever and whenever we want to. So make yourself at home and grab a Mojito. We've always got plenty of those too!
Mekos, you need to tell me more about the heat pad thing.. I have a problem with "losing" my seeds and having to unbury the little buggers. How can I fix that little problem? I am happy to report that I have 1 Hardy Hibiscus sprout and 3 Rose of Sharon Blue Satin Sprouts! I can't wait for those- they are sooo pretty! I had a very generous DG'er send me a nice variety of Hollyhock seeds, so I am going to start them. I think I will make a lasagna bed for just Hollyhocks. I like the idea of having them all together and being able to find a home for them later. I also need to start some purple coneflower. I was bummed when I learned they bloom the 2nd year, but oh well. They're worth the wait.

Listen- we started talking about something in the Lasagna Bed Brigade yesterday and I just want to bring it up again. If ya'll think I'm completely crazy, I understand! You guys were joking about coming to my house.. after I finished roflmao, I thought "Hey, that might be fun" What do you guys think about having an "Annual DG Flower Fest" where we all get together late spring? I am completely serious and would love to host it. We could switch it up and go to each others place of choice each year, or have it here every year. I don't care either way. Let's talk about it some more. These kind of things are my forte, so I would absolutely love it if we did it. I'm a good planner and organizer and could do some awesome things with this idea. And from what I can see, not many of us would have to travel too far. Lemme know!

Great idea Mechelle on the flower get together. I'd love it if I'm able to go at that time.
Keep in mind also that hollyhocks bloom the second year.
OH MAN, I want a blue satin, I have pink, white, blueish/purple colors-rose of sharon and a double rosy wine color and blushing bride color of Althea. Blue satin is my favorite color.
Maybe I will be able to grow some.

Goodmorning everyone....Still raining here...grrrr...I want to see the sunshine, tho I dont miss the 100 degree weather...I got all my flowers planted in my veggie garden between rain showers. It did catch me right in the middle of planting some daylilies and came a downpour.. DH isnt crazy about me putting flowers in the veggie garden, he is ready to plant his turnip greens....But till Its dry enough to prepare another LB he will have to deal with it...We dont eat turnip greens any way just grow them to give away and watch something growing in the garden... ha so we can watch those daylilies and irises grow that I planted...Hope you all have a great day..

Trish - do you you all like greens at all? Plant some chard, maybe rainbow - looks pretty and tastes great - lol... And beets. We don't like the beets, but sure do love the greens!

All parts of the daylilies are edible. The pods, flowers, tubers. Just tell your DH that this is the gourmet green bed and if he doesn't enjoy all those gorgeous flowers you'd be happy to serve them as a side dish. LOL Here's some recipes:

LOL you all with hubbys fussing at your gardening. Mine started that way now he's not only finding me plants and seeds he's also asking me what kind of seeds you all are sending me in the mail. To be fair to him he's always brought me plants but just recently started saving seeds for me.

Good to know they eventually come around, Mindy - lol. Mine will build me whatever I need, but that's about as far as it goes. Oh, and he doesn't cry too much about the $$ I spend, so I guess he's a keeper . . .

My DH keeps getting the packets out of the mailbox and asking me if I'm sure that this legal. Yesterday I 'found' some lily seeds on campus while picking my daughter up from school and excitedly told him about it when I got home. He rolled his eyes and said that some day he's going to walk in and catch me crushing flower seeds and snorting them. LOL

They just don't know what to think. i love it. I am retired now and got plenty of time to plant , sow seed, and chop down whatever i don't want.

hey lolly, everywhere i go i get seeds my husband told me he wont bail me out of jail if i get arrested for it. said i deserved to sit while my seeds are confiscated lol
they dont understand it is a sickness, like alcohol, we have this uncontrolable urge to collect seeds and plants. i got my kids doing it too lol figure they would go lighter on the kids lol

I was thinking around the end of April or May. I have lots of good ideas such as guest speakers, flower & plant sales, bake sale.. It could be as big or small as we want it to be. The local extension office is 10 minutes away and I'll betcha I could get the local master gardeners to come do a few booths on different things. What do you guys think?

HI Granny glad you popped in to see what we are up to. Sounds like your DH doesn't want to do without you very long if he's worrying about getting enough money to bail you out. DH does frown me me swiping cuttings though there's a bush at the PO that has the most beautiful pink flowers a camellia I think. He told if I snitched a piece he wasn't going to bail me out. I told him he would cause I take care of all those little details that make his life so comfortable LOL. But he does collect seeds from his friends places and his boss's wife's flowers.
The baby Miles got to come home today so both boys are now home. Caleb is having a minor setback though so back to the dr locally for him in the morning.

Hello everybody. No old people here except me, that job is mine- you can't have it.
I don't think they would arrest me, it would cost the county too much for my medical bills, they couldn't afford to arrest me. They would just give me the seeds and push me out the door.

Glad the kids are better, Mindy. Keep the faith, they will be running around like nothing ever happened before you know it.

Hi grannie, Welcome to the palace. I didn't remember seeing you before. Glad you joined us. The motel is getting busy. You will like our new poll and mojitos every night and tonight cookies from my new pink spatula. Pinya colada cookies. So good. How about a central place with a Botanical Gardens close by. Someplace we could all fly into. Warm in the dead of winter for our northern friends. Say Miami next to Fairchild tropical gardens. It'd take Robin 2 days to get to TN. Loca you would probably be the same. Skellogg would have to start a week in advance. :) Fly in -quick, easy, home to water the garden Monday! If we use our credit cards with the milage over Christmas (do they still have that option) maybe we could have enough to pay for the flight. I can get us a corp rate at a hotel with a pool of course. We could go to South Beach. ROTFL Let someone else make the margaritas and drive us home.
