send some rain here....still hot & humid, but there's some hot air blowing now.
(mine and mother nature's lol)

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Yes, sir. It was foggy here this AM sun peeked through for an hour or so and then the thunder started rumbling about 10AM. You be safe on you drive to rehab.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Lynnie, don"t want to mess up your weekend, but I think you may be fixing to get what you ask for....possibly as soon as today. I am channeling rain to everyone. Grin

Keaau, HI

Thanks Jean, we already get 200 inches a year here. On a typical day, it rains. I like rain!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

LOL Moon, Thanks ^_^
Was raining here this morning, then the sun came out. And now it's raining again!

Now why couldn't you have sent it to use earlier this year? A lot of the flowers are coming to an end :(

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Dave was a bit unmanageable? Some how, I can see that! ;-)

Keaau, HI

As a teenager one tends to think that they know everything. It takes a few years to figure out how little one knows!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Hey, look what I found on our Milkweed. I haven't seen these in a long time.

What is unusual about the Milkweed Kassy?

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Dave, we have not seen milkweed like this around here in years!!!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

This is what my BF said when he found out that I found some......

(8/19/2009 10:13:41 PM): don't tell the dnr

LOL

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Big fat pods on that milkweed kassy. Gonna have seeds every where...grin

Dave, I really like rain too, but this is getting silly. If it isn't raining it is rumbling and grumbling....makes it hard to get anything done...the mosquitos are horrendous....I look like I have the measles......and the weeds have become hydras....for every one you pull two spring up in its place. Just starting to get beds back in shape after being gone a month and they are being over run with grassy weeds...grrrr

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Name that plant.
Not going to say weed ^_^
It's growing down by the creek. And Dave, don't ask me for more pictures, because I only have one more that turned out good, and it's raining out so I'm not going down there :p

While Dave figures this one out, here's a pic of my plumeria....bloomed for the first time and the rain knocked the blooms off.....

Sorry, not familiar with that plant Kassy.

I can almost smell those Plumeria blooms!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Don't know its' name, but it has a light citrus-y fragrance, and I like the tinge of dark pink on the backs of the petals. The new growth has that same dark color to it.

HUH, Rachel sing lead....you would think twice if you ever heard me sing Dave;-) Sound's like Jean has all the instrument's we need though. Absolutely beautiful Phaius tankarvilleae! I had to look that one up.

Jean, sorry to hear the rain knocked your plumeria bloom off.

Hi Kassy and Jim the way you described yourself....you sound so Hugable too;-)

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Keaau, HI

Hows'it Rachel, hope you're having a great day yourself!

Hi there Dave. Do you still have any kin folk living in PA and I must add: YOU= no kid's. Getting nosey aint I ;-)

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I just figured it was par for the way things go Rachel....weird cosmic balance thing....grin

Ha, Ha....agree Jean.

Hey Kassy, maybe your plant's in the Asteraceae family? It's a pretty plant.

Hey Dave, I think that tricolor plant Zap called ginger might actually be a stromanthe sanguinea 'tricolor'. What do ya think?

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/27902/

Dave,Jean....trot over to the Beginner Houseplant forum and see if you know what "antoinette78" plant # 4 maybe.

Moon, it's typically sold here at Lowe's "tagged" Triostar" or something along the line's.

Edit: Your plant Jean.

I am pretty sure that is what it is, Rachel. It is a much closer match in all aspects.

When I first seen the plant being sold here called "triostar" I came straight home and searched for it online for more info. I too, thought it was a stromanthe sanguinea tri-color........but I sure will not butt head's with Dave over it. He know's his stuff much better than I when it come's to plant's;-)

Keaau, HI

Hey Rachel, most of my Kin are in Lancaster and Juniata, Pennsylvania. I have a little brother in Vancouver, Canada, a sister somewhere in Tennessee, and my older brother lives about a mile up the road from me.
Have you always lived in Virginia?

I see that plant files calls your plant a Stromanthe Jean. I know Stromanthe sanguinea as a different plant, twice as tall as your 'Tricolor"
gets.
My printed references call the plant Ctenanthe oppenheimiana 'Tricolor'.

I have alway's lived in Virginia. I have an older brother who live's here as well. My grandmother (my father's side) and he, are my closest relative's still alive.

Did I post earlier that it looked like we had missed the rain? Wrong! 3.3 inchs this afternoon and more on tap for tonight. I need to borrow Racael's canoe.

I don't know about Kassy Rachael but I am a world class hugger.

Seems like the work out today got some of the soreness out of my back. Guess it was muscle soreness.

Hang in there Jim with the therapy;-) It can get tough but the outcome should be a welcome. I seen on the T.V. new's that your area may still be getting quite a bit of rain. We have been lucky here with only a few heavy shower's but the sky at time's looked like they meant some real business!

Hi Rachel, I found the plant along the little creek that runs behind us.

And Jim, I pretty much figured out what you were like ;-)

Please tell me Kassy. People have been trying to figure me out for years. I'm not even sure I know myself.

Jim you remind me of my uncle Sonny who is a Preacher. He has alway's been my second Father! When I attend church and we hug.....I alway's leave my make-up on his shoulder sleeve;-) Ha, Ha.

Gorgeous picture Kassy! I get so relaxed when I sit by creek's and Lake's here.......The ocean's seem to take me to LaLa land though.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Jim, I see you as kind, considerate, mild, peace loving, angelic person. Oh, I left out truthful.....................

Thanks Rachel, my son took that picture :)

Almost time for a new thread. Anyone want to start a new one?

FYI- Be Careful Making Pesto- People, I have a huge herb garden with lots of basil so I have been making pesto. It is expensive to make as you know because of the parmesean and mostly because of the pine nuts. DO NOT use pine nuts from China. They cause a lot of problems....number one being that after you eat them they cause you to have a bitter taste in the back of your mouth after eating almost all foods for up to 2 weeks. There are lots of threads posted about this and you can search google for it. we need to forget China for foodstuffs. Honestly. No telling what is in those things!

Sound's like Girla need's to start our newest thread!

Rachel

Keaau, HI

Thanks for the link Jean, I'm not familiar with the 'Triostar' cultivar. I still think your plant looks more like the Ctenanthe than the Stromanthe. How tall does your plant get? Is there any flowers to show?

Hi Girla, have you ever tried substituting Walnuts or Almonds in your Pesto? It turns out well!
I always use raw nuts in my recipes, as the Omega-3 oil is still fresh. Once the nuts are roasted, the oil begins to go rancid.
The best way to use nuts is to get them whole (in the shell) and shell them as needed.
