Well I'm sure you have done your share of them also. At least I can still do 1st and 3rd grade work. Sophmore would be different thingsstory.
Like my baby sister said at registration to college "I don't know why I have to take biology and chemistry, I took it once 10 years ago"
You are up there in my book with the remarkable Grandma's. Full time may be more than I could handle
i have slugs
Whats one more Lynnie!! Think have the neighborhood most days. GS real generous with after school snacks. LOL
Just cuz he knows his grandma will be proud of him for sharing....grin. We have had GSJordan with us since he was 21 mos old. More like our "empty nest accident child" than a grandson...grin. Two weeks to the day before he came to live with us, I helped our youngest, daughter Jan, move into her own apartment, (19, college and a job...good kid). I had no sooner finished paintinf Jan's old room for a den, than GSJordan joined us....good thing he liked green...grin
I forgot what this thread started out as but sure has given me lots of reading material. All I know is I'm moving to LA so I can grow some of them cantelopes as big as basketballs. You guys and gals are great and does my heart good to get good clean folks to chat with about everything. GBY
JJ I still want a chocolate cream filled donut....I try to wait out my cravings, give them 2 or 3 weeks & if they don't go away I just give in. But I still want that donut!
Hey is musk melon a cantaloupe? The cantaloupes in the grocery store were awful (under ripe) and they had musk melon at the farm stand. Nice & ripe.
My first house was a cute little cape, tore up all the carpet & had a guy refinish the hardwood underneath, painted all the walls off white.
They are both melons, but only cousins....although I have heard folks call cantaloupes musk melons, I do believe they are different....I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong...grin
Sounds like a lovely "shore-side" decor. I'll bet it was fun.
as long as the kids think it's cantaloupe! lol
I hear ya. We got a "personal watermelon" at the store today. It is about the size of a soccer ball....too cute
The produce truck was there when we got to the store...bought a ton of fruit and veggies...yummy.
I saw those at my grocery store! Even that size looked too big for us.
Jordan could eat his weight in watermelon, sometimes I swear he sloshes when he walks by. One of the best kidney kickers going....grin
my kids slosh with milk lol

Hi all. Glad to have you with us Flowers. This is a great bunch of gals and one ole contrary red-neck.
Cat I am shocked to find out you have grandchildren. I had you pegged young, sweet and innocent. All my grands are getting grown, 24, 19, 19, 16 and 14. I've been wanting to see some greats before I go to the big flower garden in the sky, but getting no cooperation.
The surgery went well jjs. No complications and the doc was sure it will be benign.
I knew school had started because hospital visits picked up. People don't get sick during summer vacation. Somethings got to give, because I have to much gardening to do.
Jim I thought Cat was... um... without grandchildren too lol I guess you can be 30 & have grandchildren, right?
Only if you are TRES precocious......and so are the kids...grin
Right.
Right! lol
I'm going to have to install a dictionary on my lap top to find out what some of these words mean.
Hey Jim....(knowing in a worldly way at an early age) Kassy is doing a chat abbreviation dictionary for Dave, we can do one for you too...
On another thread Moon & I were talking recipes, culture & language all in one...
my take was I could turn a cajun or creole recipe Italian if it had a French name.
and you served it with a good Italian wine....grin
and garlic cheese bread...
I worked in a German restaurant for 2 summers, the owner used to come in and yell "what is this girlie? it looks like a cow plopped on this plate! you make it with love!"
Only wine I know anything about is Thunderbird, $2 a gallon.
Have you guys ever eaten any real Ravoli? One of my cousins, who had children my age, was married to a full bloodied Italian. His mother taught her how to cook Italian. The Ravioli was a Christmas dish and they started making the meat pies a couple of months in advance. Made them them from any kind of meat they could get, rabbit, squirrel, chicken, beef. To this day I can remember how it tasted. Ummm good.
My brother-in-law was a fireman and his chief was full blooded Italian. He taught Joe how to make spagetti and meat sauce like they make. Called for a lot of special herbs and took all day for the sauce to cook. It was fantastic.
Ja Vohl mein kommidant....gosh my German stinks....grin
Sounds delicious Jim...I make an Irish spaghetti and lasagne, but never get any complaints from the crew..

Jim I have a pasta machine and have made raviolis, gnocchi, fettucine,....when I make sauce it takes at least 6 or 7 hours or it doesn't get made. Then I make gallons & freeze some. I don't think there's anything special in mine, just gotta let it simmer all day. Made a butternut squash gnocchi once, good Lord was that good.
How about polenta?
It makes lousy corn bread...but I enjoy it as a side dish. yeah there's a story....grin
I'm a pig, I like it with sauce, peppers, onions & pepperoni :)
Make it and I will come! Wishful thinking.
Lynnie and Jim...let me think a minute.... I was maybe uh, 14 (?) when I had my 1st child??? And then she had her first at 14! Um....that would make me only 28 right??? Yeah, that's it!!! :-)
I really was a Grandma early though. Only 35. Got married at 16 like a nit-wit. Love it though. wouldn't trade it for anything!
Good morning everyone!!
It worked for Loretta Lynn....a mom at 14 and a grandma before 30. Not something I would recommend, babies with babies is an incredibly hard row to hoe..
I know. I had my first when I was 17. Have always been more "responsible" than most so it worked out ok for me. Not the kids Dad though. We were young and dumb and thought we knew it all! :-)
Isn't that a country song? ;)
Cat we're probably about the same age, I started late, I had my full time job, my own cute little house, and I travelled everywhere and anywhere...didn't meet a man who didn't annoy me after a couple of months until I was 30 LOL
Loretta Lynn had money, which isn't everything but it sure helps get through the day.
Life and marriage can be hard enough when you think you are prepared....GSJordan's dad was 19...She was 17....not a pretty situation.
Isn't that the truth! :-) Lord knows I've made plenty of mistakes in my life. I just hope I can learn from them all and not make the same mistakes over and over again
If we don't make a few mistakes along the way we never learn to deal with adversity...you got it, the trick is to take away something valuable from the experience.....
Yep! Easier said than done sometimes though! LOL
Amen.....sitting in the choir....grin
Lynnie, We have redone the hardwood floors, but this room doesn't have them so I am putting in linoleum that looks like wood until I can afford the real thing.
Jim , I thought Lynnie and cat were about the same age, but I was thinking young also early 30's. So do you think they'll tell?
Question:
I have a friend who told me she planted zucchini and found a pumpkin growing on the same vine. How does that happen?
Cat, and Moon I had my first at 17 also and my mom got married at 16. I learned fast second one was 8 years later. Unfortunately took longer than that to find right man, but I finally did. We had been together 17 yrs before we got married.
Hopefully kids don't have to make same mistakes it was a rough road. Wouldn't trade anything just would put in a different order.LOL
Of course kids will make the same mistakes! :-) They aren't going to listen to us, any more than we listened to OUR folks. Remember how grown up we felt and the "older" adults just didn't understand!?
I have about decided we all have to find out own way, no matter how knowledgeable someone is about what we are going through. We have to experience it all ourselves. Guess it's part of the growing process! LOL Either that, or every one of us is just born hard headed!!!
Cart and horse wisdom comes with age, JJ's....and of course when we are young we know everything...one of my favorites is the...When I was young my parents were the dumbest folks on earth...it is amazing how smart they have gotten over the years....GRIN
Thats a good one Moon and you're right Cat don't know how many times I've heard "you're just old fashioned mom"!
Blame it all on DH, if he would have dumped his HS sweetheart when I moved to town Sophmore year could have saved a lot of rough years. LOL
