I am so glad. My youngest, my daughter Jan is married to a man from Australia, Peter. They live in Brisbane in Queensland in the Northeast of Australia. They are the parents of the two little guys(watch me sneak in another picture). we have been fortunate enough to visit them twice, now. I love the country, but will more than likely only visit.

Memphis into west Memphis? It has been nearly 20 years since I have been there. My parents moved from Louisiana to Arkansas in 1971 and I55 was the route into Arkansas to almost Joneboro.

I like the look of the pyramid juxtaposed with the linear cables of the bridge. Neat.

I-40 is the hwy now Moon;-) I take alot of deep breath's before hitting Memphis on the drive and drink a alot of coffee before I get there to keep me alert!

Darlin baby's! Aussie land is on my place to visit before I hit my grave......but I do have several in front of it;-)

Picture's from the oldest city in Florida! Love the Peacock's.

another one.

Moon, do you have any idea what this bush is? I asked on the Tropical plant forum a while back but no one knew.

I am not good at judging size, but that looks like an azalea, possibly a Mrs George Tabor. There are so many azaleas on the market now, and so many hybrids...I will look around a bit. How tall is it? There are a couple distinguished solely by height to my eye anyway.

Delhi, LA

Looks like an azalea to me Rachael. I have one that looks a lot like it. Have no idea what the name is.

Thank's moon.

A couple more from St. Augustine Florida.

Thank you Jim as well. I have never seen an Azalea like that one though;-)

Last one for now.

That looks like a neat and informative visit to St Augustine. I understand it is really pretty there and St Petersburg. Cool pics, thanks for sharing them.

Well Moon, look's like you nailed it! Your good Lady;-) Thank's much.

Rachel

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You're welcome Rachel....it helps that this area is the azalea capital.....there is hardly a yard around here that doesn't have azaleas planted somewhere.....I have two low growers hedging the east side of the greenhouses...Red Ruffles and Hardy white gardenia....the little white gardenia azalea has blooms that look for all the world like gardenias....just doesn't have the fragrance gardenias do.

That is a pretty neat site...tons of beautiful pictures.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Rachel -- Wow! That's some rain barrel!
I didn't even know there were white or albino peacocks! They are beautiful.
I didn't know that Ponce de Leon was over 7' tall.
Your azalea bush is beautiful! I don't see many up here.
Didn't know there was a pryamid building there.
Nice you are keep us informed.

Moon -- Great photos of the Sidney Opera House.

I sure am learning a lot being here, other than plants and of course our slugs!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good Morning, Venice. Yesterday my DHJim was poking around outside. I heard him come into the kitchen and head right back out muttering. I went to see if he needed something and he was in the process of salting a huge (insert really rude expletive here) slug queen. Fully stretched out close to 4 or 5 inches and a half inch wide....from what I could see through the salt....he moved a couple bricks and found her, and about 20 or so small ones. Zoltan. killer of slimeys wiped out the whole village and was kind enough to scoop it up with the shovel and trash it....UGH.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh! So GROSS!!!!

(Zone 5b)

eeeew! Moon yuck! lol Pertinent to the thread though. I hate to see what I find if I move some rocks!
good morning everybody!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I am going to jump critters here....Mosquitos. Researchers have finally found a use for the nasty little beggars. They are "infecting" mosquitos with a vaccine for malaria. Now instead of giving you malaria, they will be innoculating you for malaria....someone out there is just freaking brilliant. You can check out the story on NPR

Delhi, LA

Morning all. Busy day today. Therapy yesterday. If it's helping I'm glad. Back had pretty much quit bothering me but two days of therapy and I can hardly move.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good morning Jim....but just think, what doesn't kill you will make you stronger....grin. Sometimes the cure can seem worse than the ailment. Spent 4 weeks restricted to flat on my back....two "leaking" herniated discs....allowed upright 3 times per day.....needless to say, dehydration was a consideration....grin. After Phys. Therapy learned strengthening exercises to prevent a recurrence. Alleve or aspirin are my best friends some days....

(Cathy), MO

Just a quick hi. Our network has been down all week. I ran to another office and am checking in from there. Hope everyone has a good weekend. I will catch up when we get back up and going

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

(ominous music) DUM DUM DUM , DUUUMMMM. And so it starts. Hurricane Week on the weather channel. The Atlantic is filling up with tropical depressions and one has the potential to become Tropical Storm Anna. Gulf Coast friends....get your kit bags ready....looks like we are heading for a really wet summer's end.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I am glad mosquitos are helping us. I guess you have many types of critters down there. I guess it is because it is so wet. When I was a kid, seems to me that they were much smaller than there are now.

Jim -- So sorry you are having back problems. Before I thought you were visiting someone who was having therapy and didn't realize it was you having it. Sure hope you are doing better. I know my father suffered with back pain for many years. Not too pleasant. Sorry Moon that you have had it with your back also. Please take care of yourselves!

How in the world do you guys manage to garden? I have a few problems myself and I am pretty ok if I garden for only short periods. But you guys have really large gardens! Don't know how you do it!

Moon, I forgot to say something. Those Early Girls really seem like a great tomato and will have to grow some next year.

Do you guys grow your tomatoes from seeds or do you buy plants also? If you used tomato seeds, can you put them directly in the ground? Or do you have to start them inside first?

See you guys later! Have a great day!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Venice, I use both plants and seeds. By staggering that way, I have viable plants producing longer, and also a couple young plants for early fall. It is usually warm enough for established plants to produce into early October.I use the Early Girls for the late planting cuz they produce quickly. I generally start my seeds in pots. It is easier to control moisture and bugs with the babies in pots. I often use a single plant in a good sized pot to fill in bare spots in the flower beds. I plant a little portulaca or purslane in the pot after the tomato gets established so it covers the pot and makes it less noticable. I think tomatoes are attractive plants and add to the overall interest of the bed. I also use calibrochoa and petunias to disguise the black plastic nursery pots.

With the back thing....stretching ,strengthening exercises, a single coated aspirin in the morning (unless it will be a long garden day, then an Alleve) and the common sense rule....IF IT HURTS, STOP. Grin

There is a running joke about the size of mosquitoes here.....we call them the state bird.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Now I am curious to know what your garden looks like. Do you have a photo you can post on here?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I will post a couple on the plant ID thread . See ya over there.

Delhi, LA

I really thought I had pulled a muscle and still might have. MRI showed some bulging discs. Therapy is to strengthen lower back and hopefully stop the problem. I've had very little pain, just agravation. Get stiff once I stop and sit for a while. Had just about quit giving me trouble to I started this therapy now is sore again. I guess that will go to in time.

Got the two dead pines down in my yard. Power company came to day and took them down from the top. Now I've got to pile and burn it all. Think I'll invite my son to eat lunch with me the next time he is off.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Take it easy Jim. Slow and steady is the ticket. We want you up-right and taking sustenance for a long long time.....you won't enjoy Community coffee through a straw....grin

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone.
Jim my DH has had a couple compressed discs in his back for years. I got him one of those inversion tables that turn you upside down last year, uses it everyday and stopped taking all his pain meds. Not sure about buldging discs but maybe something to ask the physical therapist

Son is doing fine no more bleeding from ear. Changing GS name from farmer Dill to Dill the disasterous. I needed more than wheaties. Had to recruit the 9 yr old GS to come help and he took over the computer!! Lots of help!
But would go out of my mind if they lived away like yours do Moon. If I go a week without seeing them I go nuts.

They are both back at their homes now. I decided to try and catch up on yard and garden and got attacked by Japenese beetles. They were on everything . I hit the rose of sharon bush and they were swarming there were so many.

Sorry organic users but this was war and out came the raid yard fogger and the sevin spray.

jjsgramma, so good to hear that your son is no longer bleeding from his ear! Good sign. Keep us posted when you can;-)

Jim, physical therapy can through one's body for a loop of hurt for a bit, but the outcome is well worth it. Hang in there;-)

cat, sound's like you had a busy week at work. Hope all get's straightened out soon. In the mean time.....chill out and forget all about work and have a relaxing weekend at home.

Wishing all a great weekend.

Rachel

Guess I'll start my own version of rehab tomorrow, got 2 humongous pine trees sawed up in my yard. Looked around for someone to pile and burn them and found only me. Jo is still in the canning business, got a ton of over size pickles peeled and sliced for cinamon pickles. Went this afternoon and we picked 5 gal. of muskedines. Went to another place and picked 18 gal. of pears. Lord, that woman has more energy than the law allows.

So glad your son is better, jjs. He continues to be on our prayer list.

Hope all of you guys have a great week end.

(Zone 5b)

JJ glad to hear your son is ok, and Disasterous Dill kept your mind off putting your foot up your son's rear lol. now you get to put things back in order.
Moon that is VERY interesting about the mosquitos, call me skeptical, I'll withhold judgment when that experiment turns out fabulous. I give every new invention/shot/drug/vaccine 10 years before I sign up.
Jim you be careful, do what they tell you, it works if you do what they tell you!
hey y'all I think Venice just called us old? hahaha Venice...people peg me for younger than I am, I've had back & knee problems too. PT saved me. Back injury was from a car accident, knee from overdoing it at the gym.
rachel great pics, I'll give them a closer look when I get my wifi back.

Delhi, LA

You are all just a bunch of girls, even jjs.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

JJ"SGramma, the local prayer group was so pleased to hear your son is on the mend. They were so tickled Granny Emma led everybody in a chorus of What a Friend we have in Jesus....I don't think I have ever heard it on a speaker phone before....grin Sweet ladies. The 15 y/o grandson lives with us, the two babies are the reason I use coupons, recycle and shop at discount stores. Gotta save every penny I can so I get to go see them.17,000 miles is a bit far to ride your bike to Grandma's house....grin. You are truly blessed.

Hi Rachel. aren't those azalea pictures just beautiful? I really enjoyed the mini-tour. Are you folks getting rained on yet? looks like we all may wash away....Grin

That's sweet Jim, but you don't have me beat by too much....I'm probably closer than JJ'sgramma....Please, please please be careful out there. The combo of heat, meds and hard work can be very dangerous....after all, the wood isn't going anywhere, so take your time. Regards to St Rose (Joanne). She sounds like a treasure and you are a lucky man to have found her.

The interesting thing about the mosquitos Lynnie, is that if all goes as planned, you'll never know you've been innoculated....you just won't contract malaria. As for vaccines....adults are free to choose, but when I was in nursing school, I watch a young strong handsome 16 year old boy die in less that 36 hours from menningitis....the vaccine came out and Jordan was at the Dr's office.

I feel the same about the babies that died in Australia from Whooping Cough of all things. My heart broke for their mother's until my daughter told me that they flatly refused to have their babies vaccinated because it MIGHT, maybe, possibly, but there is no concrete evidence as yet, trigger Autism. At least if that is the case, they could still tuck their possibly may be autistic children into bed at night. Sorry for the rant, but I do feel very strongly about it and it makes me nutzoid to see kids hurt......I really hope you and your family are having a blast while you are on vacation...make a couple cool memories with the girls....you'll treasure them later, and who knows, you can maybe use it as blackmail when they are teenagers...BIG GRIN

Delhi, LA

I'm not just lucky, Moon. I'm smart. Found out Mr. A.J. had a whole litter of girls down at his house and I buddied up to him. Gave me pick of litter. When she was big enough to wean, I went and got her.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You sly dog you....grin

When I was 14, I was 5'10" and weighed in at 185. I was semi-bad. Catch a boy looking at her and would have a little heart to heart with him. Girl couldn't get a date. Had um all bluffed. When she turned seventeen and I was twenty. Some of those old boys were bigger than me and didn't bluff to well. Went and got her and carried her before a preacher. Been there ever since.
