I ordered two Meyer Lemon plants from Logee's recently. When the box arrived, I opened it and found only one plant. I called immediately and the very nice person on the other end apologized and said she would have another plant sent the next day. The second plant arrived today as expected. I am very happy with their customer service and willingness to make things right. I would gladly do business with them again.

Ok, here's the long story of my first encounter with Loggee's. Ordered some passion vines for my best friend's birthday. She's going to school "up north", and when she mentioned that she had an awesome south facing window in her dorm room, I just had to get her some nice houseplants, especially since it's a brand new dorm and there is a lingering smell of paint. She had even borrowed a plant from the school's conservatory to purify the air, so it was high time to get her some nice plants of her own. Had to have them shipped in October to beat the Wyoming winters, so she got her birthday gift a month early. I haven't seen them, but she says they're really nice. I was really pleased with their selection: they have more than ten varieties to chose from. I chose the least fragrant one because she's sensitve to perfume--as a bonus, it was one with edible fruit. Bet she'll be popular once they get to fruiting size! I was very pleased with Loggee's after this gift order.
Then I ordered two plants for myself. A Petite Negra fig and a Persian Lime. They came in great condition, even though the box was a bit messed up by the mail service. The fig is growing like crazy, I've repotted it into an 8" pot and it's already almost too tall for the light fixture. It was about 16" and no branches when I got it, now it's about 20" and starting to branch out well. I have bug issues, awful mealybugs on almost all my plants, but I'm so excited about this great little fig that I've been manually debugging instead of using pesticides. I was ecstatic to find a fig that stays small enough to grow indoors during the winter and move outside in the hot months!
I ordered the lime tree only to make shipping worthwhile (it's something I've wanted, but I wasn't as anxious to get one as I was to get the fig), since their shipping is a little higher than most. But I still like it a lot. It currently is just sitting there, but I think that's what citrus are supposed to do until they get used to your conditions. Not losing any leaves, not gaining any. I repotted it into a 6" pot and fed it and it seems to be doing ok with that.
I am really pleased with this company! Just be sure to order in spring or fall, like the other person said, so that the plants don't get too cold or too hot during shipping. I always order my plants at those times of the year anyway. So I've never had problems with the mail system freezing or cooking the sweethearts.
I will DEFINITELY order again!

I've only ordered once from Logee's but I'm VERY happy with my purchase. I just received my Miracle Fruit today in perfect condition (it didn't even lose a single leaf!), the dirt was kept moist, and in its little pot.

I had read the Miracle Fruit is a very slow grower, so I was expecting a pretty small plant, but what I received was a very healthy specimen a little over a foot tall (excluding the pot). It wasn't cheap, but I feel got what I paid for and detailed care instructions were provided as well.

The wait for this particular plant was a little long, but I was expecting it since they stated that on their site. I ordered 7/9/2008 so it took a good 4 months to get here (in case anyone's curious).

I can't wait to purchase a jasmine plant next!

On February 19th, 2009, lemonwater added the following:

I just received another Miracle Fruit from Logee's since no one watered my plant while I was gone over the weekend. This one is also very healthy, and is even about half a foot taller than my deceased one. The jasmine I ordered (2.5" pot) is also healthy and larger than I expected, and after a few days is already showing lots of new growth.

A 15% off coupon came with my newest order, so I decided to order more plants. I had a 1 plant order that hadn't been shipped yet, so I contacted customer service and requested they add a few plants to my existing order (since shipping is a little expensive). I got a very quick, polite response early the next day, and everything was taken care of. Customer service let me know the cost, and also asked permission to charge my card which I very much appreciated. They were even kind enough to let me use my discount on the additional plants and answered my questions about how to care for vanilla.

I'm very pleased, I'll be buying from Logees again.

I ordered three begonias and a Gynura maybe a month ago. I was a little irked that my order took so long to get in the mail. It is the busy time of the year so they have a blurp about it taking up to 10 days (can't they hire more people?) I e-mailed about my Escargot because it looked pretty wilted. They responded right away with a couple of tips and an attached care sheet (why they don't send these with the plants I don't know). I also e-mailed a few days later about my Gynura. It arrived limp with several stems broken/cut and leaves missing - pretty bad shape. Never perked up. The stem/leaves were not in the box so I have to assume it was handled harshly at the nursery. They e-mailed back (blaming it on shipping) and said they would send a replacement. I appreciate the fast and friendly responses. My begonias did arrive bigger than expected (tiny pots though). Although they are expensive (to me), I will order from them again. Their customer service is appreciated.

When the recent passiflora sale came up, I jumped in. Unfortunately, 3 out of 5 of one of the passiflora collection which was on sale at a great price, croaked:-( First one, then within a week, a second and third). I wrote to Logee's and they got back to me immediately. I wrote rather longer emails on the second and third fatalities, and, I got responses to the effect that the replacements would be mailed within a certain period of time. Sure enough, all three arrived on separate days in separate boxes, and are all thriving. I have been a Logee customer for more than 17 years. I can't remember exactly, but, I think I started purchasing from this grower around 1991:-) I was a horticulture student, and our instructor had a catalog, before the photo version, and I flipped out. I would ask my nearest and dearest to gift me money so I could purchase from this fabulous growing family. Rare plants!

I was so disappointed this time, and now, I am totally satisfied. I had a nice followup email from Byron Martin today, and I wrote him back to tell him that everything is as of old. Perfect.

For those who have had negative experiences, write or call them again. I know they want to please.

Highly recommended, and still one of the best purveyors of fine plants anywhere around.

My only recommendation to Byron is perhaps a larger pot and a check on roots before shipping, and make sure the soil is not too compacted on the roots. I'll be returning:-)

This spring I ordered over $400 of plants from this company and although most arrived just fine, I decided to take them up on their 30 day warranty for any plants that don't live due to the fact that 3 small plants arrived heat stressed and never recovered. Well, was I surprised that they don't even return your emails. Yes, the same one they have listed here in many of their responses. It was no big deal and I would have taken substitutes, but to totally lie on their website about a 100% 30 day guarantee is almost criminal to me so they get a negative from me for false advertising on their website and in their catalogs.

Ordered several specialty plants, including a curry plant, a jasmine, a key lime, and several others. The plants arrived promptly when they said they would.

The plants arrived in exceptionally good condition; large and thriving, and well packed; each was packed specially according to its habit of growth. The cost is not cheap, but I believe that it's worth it. They are also honest about the size of the plants you can expect. I found the plants to be larger and healthier than expected.

Logee's book on container and sunroom plants is a good investment for anyone who overwinters plants or has a sunroom. Their suggestion about a product to kill scale is essential for anyone who grows citrus or other smooth-leaved plants indoors and has to fight this in the winter.

Very good experience. When I can't find something locally, I will order from Logee's again.

I have been a Logee's customer for many years, both mail order and walk in trade, and my experiences have basically been positive. Unfortuately, the prices have risen dramatically over the years, especially the Hibiscus and Passiflora. I was a bit surprised to read about the recent bad experience with the staff. At worse, I have been dealt with in a businesslike manner, more often people are more than willing to help. Since everything is barcoded, plants have to be brought to the counter to be scanned. And, as knowledegable as the employees are, it would be an extraordinary achievement to actually memorize the prices of hundreds of plants!! The biggest problem is that catalog plants are often not available, especially in the cactus and succulent section. I've been wanting an Edithcolea grandis for years and it appears to be on perpetual backorder. One very helpful employee explained to me that "they can't put it in the greenhouse, because then it rots". It would seem if a plant is that hard to grow then perhaps it shouldn't be listed at all. There are plenty of easy to cultivate Stapeliads that Logee's carries, e.g. Stapelia hirsuta and Stapelia gigantea.

Overall, Logee provides an impressive selection of various families, and the plants appear healthy. (some of the specimens in the 2 inch pots were obviously rootbound). I would encourage anyone to visit the nursery in person, "nasty" is not a word I would use to describe anyone working there at all.

Spectacular. I've placed two orders so far and I've been thrilled both times. My first order, I was amazed at the size of the plants. For the price, and because they were 2.5" plants, I wasn't expecting much more than very new starts. What I got were giant healthy plants. A ginger lily I purchased in a 2.5" pot was almost a foot tall right out of the box! All except one have put on lots of new growth in the last month or two, and the other is holding its own.

The ability to shop by zone was really helpful to me. I live in zone 8 which isn't really associated with tropical plants, but I was able to find some hardy tropicals that will grow in my zone.

Shipping was reasonable, and the packaging was great. No packing peanuts, carefully wrapped, and cool little custom containers to protect them, but all recycle-able. Plants survived shipping from the east coast to my west coast garden undamaged.

Overall, I'm thrilled and have already been back, but anticipate buying more in the future.

I was disappointed that the Aspen Christmas cactus was not available.

Not wanting this to be a complete negative response, I have to say that if any one has the opportunity, they MUST visit Logee's greenhouse! I lived in CT for 25 years and made that visit once or twice every year...it is an amazing place and one of the best greenhouses I have ever seen. The passionflowers are always spectacular and the very exotic plants are a sight to see! It is out of the way in one of the prettiest parts of the state and well worth the hunt. Logee's has a huge monstera deliciousa (not for sale)...a plant I have spent 20 years to locate since the only other one I have seen is in Phoenix, AZ (also not for sale). I asked about it at Logee's and these dear people sent me 2 rooted cuttings about 4 months later. They did well until I moved to NC a year ago and nearly lost them to the heat! I babied them through the winter (inside of course) and did they take off! 5' high and going strong! Thank you guys...I miss you a lot!

On the downside, they ARE a bit pricey on some items, and their shipping costs could be better (or they could offer a reduced shipping fee or free shipping on orders of, say, $50 or $100 or more), but I love the quality of their products and service. The best part tho, is the nursery itself. It's a jungle, just loaded with diverse plants (even a vine growing on the bathroom ceiling). If you live up here it's a great winter stop, but leave your coat at the door. It's a warm, lush jungle.

It's always a pleasure doing business with Logee's! My plants arrived via two day shipping in great health- despite the February cold! The heat pack kept my Jasmine varieties warm- they were expertly packaged! This was the first time I've had my plant's from Logee's shipped.
Thank You Logee's!

Have ordered from them twice and was extremely pleased with the way they package their plants, and the quality of the plants. Glossy, healthy green leaves with pristine root systems. All the plants were at least 6" tall, unlike some that I have ordered and ended up with 2" seedlings.

No foam peanuts to get rid of; everything was carefull wrapped and secured with butcher's paper. No soil spilled in the box or in my floor!!!

I'm very happy to be a customer of theirs.

I ordered two house plants. I thought they would be shipped when the weather was warmer.
Was I suprised when I got home and their they set on the porch in 28 degee weather, in a ice storm!
I don't think the plants are hurt but they could have been.
If I ever order from them again it will be in the summer.

Dear camankin,

I apologize for any inconvenience. We watch the weather and avoid shipping when it looks like it is too cold. On 2/11/08, the day that we shipped your order, we only shipped Overnight and Two-day orders (with insulation and heat packs) because of the cold temperatures. Because your order was placed with Overnight delivery service we shipped them right away. We guarantee arrival of healthy plants, so if they were damaged by the cold weather please let us know. Also, we are happy to hold an order for any ship date that you request. On the checkout page of our website there is an "Order Hold Date" box where you can specify the date you wish the order held until - you can order in the winter and have the shipment delayed until spring or summer if you wish.

Thank you, Logee’s

I ordered some hard to find plants and was very pleased when I got my shippment. The plants were in 4" containers and they were already blooming, all 7 of them. Very healthy plants and great service! Give them a try, you won't be dissappointed :)

Although I've ordered only twice from this company, both times I've received good service and strong plants. Most recently, I ordered a small lime tree to grow inside. It was no small cutting when it arrived; it was a sturdy, good-sized plant, which is continuing to flourish indoors (which, in my area, is where it will spend most of its time).

Two or three years ago I ordered a couple of salvia guarantica. They're still thriving in my back yard.
