Thanks Synda,BJ and Jaye.Sorry my was not here to enjoy the geese or duck hatch. He is at his dads and he will be home this evening.
Jaye, sorry i missed your phone call.I will call you back this evening sometimes.
LK here is Elvis! I found him! lol
now let me tell you before you see all the mistakes on that suit,,,I did not have a pattern and this little fellow was a chunky elvis. lol,,,,I used his p.j. bottoms for a pattern on the waist and the rest is history. He was happy with it, and on stage , (he wore it in a play also) he had a red/wht guitar and sunglasses. he looked cool. lol
That's fine Cody. Just checking to see if you're eating Chicken Cordon Bleu again :D
Sistahs, please add to your prayers, Sis Kathy's DH. He is sick and sis is bringing him to the dr.
Lord have mercy on us all. Did I just see Elvis????
Bonnie... what are you feeding that monster hosta of yours?
My hostas are just not performing this year... last year, they were twice the size they are now... made quite a show out there under the pine tree... but this year... they're scrawny... and I don't know why. I hate to divide them yet, cause the clumps are really not that big yet... only planted them 2 years ago.
Ya'll need to come back to my house now... I've got all the beds weeded...
Darn, I really wanted that done before you all got here... but life didn't cooperate with me.
Mike is going swimming with some of his friends... just a couple coves over... Don and I have a scheme to drive the jet skis over there pulling the tube and surprise them with a little fun this afternoon.
Better go get that tube ready while Don's still game for this.
bjwilson - "Nature's way of pruning!" As I spent hour after hour picking up sticks and sawing tree limbs, inevitably one of my neighbors would say that to me. It was amusing the first hundred storms...
My problem was I wanted my country acreage to look like a beautifully maintained city lot. What was I thinking - lol !
I've been in a couple tornadoes, actually. My Granny was born and raised in Nebraska, and she was not the least bit afraid of storms. I remember when we lived in Rocky River - another NE Ohio city - a tornado was coming. Mom and Grandpa ran to the basement, but Granny and I stood by the diningroom window and watched the funnel come. Fascinating.
The wind took the roof off the garage next door and flattened a greenhouse which stood not 50 feet from our house. It did the typical damage all around town, in addition to taking the roof off my school. We all had to transfer to finish out the school year.
Hurricanes scare me more, although I've only seen them on tv. I do not envy those of you who live in hurricane states. Those storms last too long. Tornadoes are here one minute, and back in the clouds the next.
heavenscape - I've been here the longest ? Do you mean on DG or on the planet ? As for advice, all I know is to stay on your knees in the dirt.
If you are a gardener, you know that is the best place on earth to be.
My garden here doesn't amount to much, but I'll take a couple pics and post them tomorrow.
abbisgranma - Oh, The Phantom. Do you play ? Andrew Lloyd Webber seems to like difficult key signatures. Plus he changes them three, sometimes four times in one piece. This score is a challenge to me, but I love the music. Not to mention I see Gerard Butler in my mind...
I read not to long ago, that people who play an instrument are less likely to have Alzheimer's because music requires us to use both sides of our brains at the same time. Not that women don't automatically do that anyway ! But, since I read that, I decided to practice a couple hours every day !
I wish I could spend more time here and keep up with everyone's news. I love all the pictures you post - babies, kitties, gardens, etc... The BBQ recipe sounds yummy. And it seems many of you are quilters too, is that right ?
Time for me to fix dinner. If I ever hit the lottery big time, I intend to hire a cook - one who plans the meals, does the shopping, cooks, and cleans up !
I hope everyone has a good evening.
LK, I found the costume. The pink is Glenna the Good Witch, she even had silver glitter shoes, but cant' see them in the photo, and a wand that sparkled and lit up.
This year she wanted to be a 'good' witch and this is what we came up with . Can't see in the pic real good, but there are spiders and bats on the lace overlay of the coat, lined with purple, (her grandmother's favortite color) and her dress had silver spiders on it.
She is a cutey, dressed up or not, big brown eyes. lol
Okay, that's all for now. going to take a big break. lightning here for some unknown reason, and my sewing machine is computerized so unplugging it and my pc. catch you all later
Glad the kitties are doing well....I would call the second one Kemp or Tyler to go along with Dallas.
hey, I like that idea....Don and BJ don't need exchange students...we can all take turns staying with them instead!!!
Love Piano....my playing is very very basic....only had lessons for a year or two when I was little....our Church gave me an old upright from one of the Sunday School rooms when they inherited a beautiful Baby Grand from one of our members. I can only play basic tunes, but I love it......it is very relaxing.
Bon love the Hosta's ! I have one big green one.....hope to pick up different ones eventually....I still have a little space down the shade garden....a varigated one would be wonderful!
Prayers definitely going out to Kathy's DH...please keep us posted.....she doesn't need any more stress!
Mother in Law is doing great....she will be going to rehab tomorrow or Thursday and home in a week or two!
Popped up to see Doris while I was at the hospital....she will be coming home tomorrow. They are working on arrangements with Hospice to keep her at home for the time being:( But I guess that might be best as long as they come up with round the clock, COMPETENT help. But I am not family so I guess all we can do is pray for the best.
Well, waving to everyone...... need to get a few things before I pick Sage up from school....talk to you later..
Oh thank you Jaye! Hugs Back! I get off work at 4:30.
Boy Marilyn, you're busy! Would love to see pics, only if you can.
Cute cute costumes!!!!!
Bonnie, what is the name of the hosta? I have a Sum and Substance but it sure isn't anywhere close to that size yet!! Who cares, it is growing and that is fine with me--love hostas and never ever had success with them in Gainesville.
Oh I am so laughing Penny about the city yard!!! When my late husband and I were looking for a retirement home we wanted NO part of a manicured lawn--wanted a more natural thinking it would be so easy. WRONG!! As BJ mentioned, I have lots of trees and nature does prune daily. I had a horrible mess after Ike stalled over Florida last year and an even worse time finding someone to help clean up the debris. Thank goodness that is behind me!!
Why yes I play!! LOL, the radio, the television, the CD player but alas no instruments. I love the music of Andrew Llyod Webber so is is frequently heard blasting from my house--especially if I am working on the back decks. After seeing Susan Boyle I am now in a Les Miz mode for music. BTW, I am Marion.
Janice, I am still having a little discussion with Kim (my daughter) about some of the fat quarters!!! I also feel like she has reached a milestone today--was looking a my newest quilting magazine and commented the pattern on a particular quilt was really nice but the fabric did nothing for it! I have waited atleast 40 years to hear those words from her. LOL There may be help for her yet!!!
BJ, I don't know why your were worried about your beds--they looked fantastic to me!! Got the oakleaf hydrangea yet? I am pulling one of my branches down and putting a brick on it so it will spred some more. My Endless Summer I planted 3 years ago is really short but what it lacks in stature it has made up for with blooms. Oh my at last --of course threatening to dig it out if it didn't do anything this year may have helped.
Well, off to rotate laundry. Kim and I have about decided to go to Mom's on Friday so we can have a couple of days visiting with her before she goes in for her surgery. Besides Kim thinks she might get her aunt to bar b que if we are there for the weekend. That gal is thinking.
Jaye love the name of the newest member of the family. Oh what cuties!!
NOPE... no oakleaf hydrangea... not yet... maybe I'll look for one next year when I add yet another bed on the lower level... it's already gotten too hot this year to do any more. Just waiting now for everything to fill out.
Well, good thing Don and I hadn't left on the jet skis to surprise Mike and his friends... he called me to tell me they were all going over to another friend's house to swim in his pool...
So, we sat on the deck with an iced tea instead. That was so nice.
I did pull some radishes... they're all ready at the same time... Don doesn't eat them, Mike doesn't like them, and I've given myself heartburn from trying to eat them all... so I took today's crop to a neighbor...
Trisha... I got room for you anytime you want to come on down... exchange student or no... you're always welcome here.

GEEZ!! What a bunch of chatty women today, LOL. The memorial service was very nice. They played a dvd with music and pictures of the lady. There was only 1 picture of her where she was not smiling. This lady had a smile that lit up the room. The minister did tend to go on a little bit too long about death and heaven. People were starting to scrim in their seats, and my stomache started growling. The food tables were LOADED with some of the most delicouse looking dishes. I just wanted to HEAP my plate full, but I was a lady and only took a little of this and a little of that. I didn't even hit the dessert table either DRATS!!!!
Got home and got my tiller started so I hurried and got my area all tilled. Needed a drink so I decided to drop in and see how everyone was doing.
Synda, when I click on that first picture it is not very big. Where did you get it? I like to have a bigger one to print out. And Thanks for that pretty purple cake LOVE IT!!!
Dang Marilyn you are one heck of a seamstress. Which reminds me I've got to sew on the Hawwaiian for my DGD soon The party is Saturday luckily it's a simple thing to sew ^_^
Gotta get back to work going to put up the metal gazebo and plant my passion flowers.
OH, wish I was around to help with the radishes....and they cook up so nice!
OH I meant to tell Marion, I guess I like the older hunks like Tom Selleck. He has got the cutest behind I've ever seen. Wonder if I could find a n....d.....Oh bad girl slap my face, lol
....any little turtles this time BJ?
LOL... Cindy... thought you were trying to be a lady... hehehe
Trisha... I've never cooked radishes... how would you do that?
Hey Cindy each to his own---ROFLOL We be bad!!!
Nope, no turtles... that was so funny... LOL
But, I did have a few baby frogs trying to help me weed the beds... and I disturbed quite a few earthworms... but no little turtles.
lol, Jaye! think even a preacher knows that when heated, alcohol evaporates!
yup, my beer batter recipe for onion rings - it's Vahdahlia Onion time! (same as Walla Walla, but from a different county!)
a handful of flour, a pinch of salt and pepper each, stir together with a spoon. one swig of beer in the cook (but only if it's a really hot day and her back is hurting from standing cooking for a crowd all day, or if it's hot and she's tired) and one splash of beer in the bowl with the dry ingredients, enough to get a batter thick enough to stick to the onion rings but soft enough to drip slightly. cut up sweet onions into the thickness you like X2. dip the individual rings in. Fry in hot oil, turning after a minute or two, then cooking ever so slightly after that. if you run out, do the handful, two pinches, swig, and splash again. best if served hot and right away. although, I never have had any leftovers.....
Here you go BJ
I had never heard of cooking radishes until last year when we signed up for a CSA...they would always include a sheet of recipes with our box of veggies and this was one...sounded strange but oh are they good!!
Sauteéd Radishes
ingredients
* 2 bunches radishes with greens attached (2 lb)
* 2 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
* 1 teaspoon salt (preferably sea salt)
* 1 garlic clove, minced
* 1 bunch chopped fresh chives (3 tablespoons)
procedure
total: 20 min
dish: side
season: summer, fall
Cut greens from radishes and coarsely chop. Trim radishes and cut lengthwise into 1/2-inch wedges.
Heat 1 1/2 tablespoons butter in a 12-inch heavy skillet over moderately high heat until foam subsides, then sauté radish wedges with salt, stirring, until crisp-tender, about 12 minutes. Transfer to a platter and keep warm, loosely covered.
Sauté garlic in remaining tablespoon butter in skillet over moderately high heat, stirring, until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add greens and sauté, stirring, until wilted, about 1 minute.
Return radish wedges to skillet and stir in chives.
Ooooo... that does sound good... I've printed it, and will try that... maybe my guys will eat them if they're cooked... if not, I will just have to eat them all myself.
Bonnie... I printed your batter recipe too...
Now, I'm hungry for onion rings... DARN... not on the menu for tonight...
Maybe tomorrow.
Trisha, that looks interesting. I had never had beet tops until I lived in Canada with my brother and SIL. Not bad!!
Bon, my kind of cooking!! One for the pot, 2 for the cook. LOL
bj - on hostas: composted horse manure, tons of water (this year) and thick mulch. that photo was from May 1st - it's blooming now!
trisha - head on over to the hosta forum and pick out a few you like - I think Foxfire was offering special "co-op style" pricing, too. if you'd settle for a small piece, I could probably send one in an envie.
piano - haven't played much these last 10 years, but doc says it will help with nerve damage if I would. I get so frustrated not being able to play like once did.
here's one for y'all - from Comanche Acres! "Sew It Up"
Small pieces are great Bon.....I'm not picky....or as gran always said...Beggars can't be choosers.
Have to run, time to pick up Sage....
those radishes sound so good I've just got to try them. is it red globe radishes, or some of those fancier kinds? there's an awful lot of radish types out there....
Trisha, the variegated hosta in the photo is Minuteman. I have 3 that size - that should be mature size - s. Elegans is not yet mature!
Marion - the blue-green urn shaped hosta is s. Elegans. Sum and Substance gets much, much bigger than s. Elegans. it's one of the giants.
that horse manure is used to top dress them and then mulch them, around about now. hostas don't like to sit in wet per se, they do like drainage. but one of the best growers I know has them in boggy areas, too, and hers grow huge! they can grow in dry shade, but take off with more water.
fyi- an "ol' potlicker" in Idaho taught me that onion recipe!
Man, I wrote a whole bunch of stuff and then went back to look at the pictures of the geese again and lost it all..... Sorry ladies, I misplaced my phone yesterday and am lost without it. Well I said everything to everybody already and lost it so real quick here is what I remember in short hand...
JANICE... Yeah your finally here. Yes I enjoyed so much that I would not wait to join. I never imagined that I would be on a chat room much less find friends on it that I already care deaply for.
Jaye, glad you caught Houdine... I also think Merlin is a cute name.
Stacye, I completely agree with your description of this group. You were right on. I am amazed at the diversity and kindness of this group.
Cody, sooooo cute. Makes me want to fire up the old incabators (sp) and hatch me some eggs. We will just have to keep them away from Jaye cause she will want to eat them if we are not careful. Boiled, Fried, Poached, Over Easy, or Scrambled. Watch your eggs... Wasn't it her that was talking about deer eggs the other day... Watch out.
And to all of the others that are in pain, I will be keeping you in my prayer and hope that God will lay his hand upon those of you that need to feel his presents. Blessed be thy name.
Well I better go now as it is after 5:00 and I am still setting at work typing on the computer when I should be on my way home.
Hugs and kisses to all of you. I will try and find my phone when I get home. Hope to talk to you soon otherwise it will be tomorrow.
PS... Just in case I didn't make myself clear yesterday... I can't wait until Ohio 2010. I am ready to go NOW.
Wow, you all are busy today. Marion did you ever get your septic tank problem fixed? You were working on that before your trip to Texas.
Sending prayers out to Kathy and her hubby! Keep us posted please? Sending a ((((((((((((((((((((((((HUG)))))))))))))))))))))))))) too!
Marilyn, wow, those costumes are really nice. I used to do a lot of sewing, infact, that is what I was doing for work, when I hurt my back, and have to have surgery. I was a seamstress for the asirforce base here. We sewed anything from wing covers for the aircraft, to repairing the flight suits. I packed the chutes for a bit too!
I know what ou mean about the alterations! I had a ldy that got mad, when I told her, I can't take a womans dress jacket, and take it in from a size 18, to a size 10! Just can't be done!
Trisha good news about your MIL. Will keep her in our prayers too.
Bon, beautiful flower! Love the dark purple!
LK
Oh Gwen, I didn't misunderstand you--2010 it is!!! Counting days and pennies now.
LK, I am now waiting for the perc test to be done to see where it can be relocated. The company has called several times to make sure we are doing okay and no water standing. Never had a company follow up like that before--the joys of a small town I guess.
Bon about the horse manure--do I need to do anything before putting it around the hostas? Would hate to burn them.
Marion, don't put fresh manure down. It needs to be aged before yopu put it on the plants!
Bon... I'm not into blue flowers... and I'm not an Iris person... but that is the most beautmous iris I believe I've ever seen... I was mesmerized for several minutes on it... that one, I'd like to have.
Will Composted Cow manure do for the hostas? I know a place with ample supplies of cow manure... and still have a bucket of what they brought me... hehehe... got it from Steven and Gwen...
But, they don't have but one horse... and I don't know how to tell the difference in their poop...
Gwen... I understood you completely yesterday too... It's a date, for next year... we'll be on our way.
Potatoes are burning... gotta go.
Beautiful flowers, Love all Hosta's
Bon just any old radish....we had the plain old globe radishes....some beautiful Easter Egg radishes and they were all good!
Good Gosh...Dropping for a very quick hello to all...
some really costimes!
Waving hello Janice, bummer about your computer, hope you get it fixed...
LOL, I allowed everyone two pieces and gumming the rest myself, lol the carmels I mean.
Stacey yep, What a great decription!

Then today and night, got to make calls as nobody has said if they are coming or not, how rude! Got to call in the caterer tomorrow...

OH Jaye, How cool Kel found and caught the last kitten...So happy to hear Dallas so well.
Thanks for the recipes,,oh yum will have to print them when I can breath for two seconds.
Have a good night all
P.S. ROFLIOL...Typing in warped speed --re:typos!
Kim you are sooooo funny! ahhh, how I remember graduations,,,,had one in 90, along with my 20 year class reunion,,same month,,,, then one in 92 and 93, got a break then 2000 and 2005. All done now though!
Kim I will have to look for the Indian costume pic that I made Marcus (youngest one) when he entered a Halloween costume contest, I even made the moccasins. He took first place, he was so proud of that ribbon. I even made him a small head dress and painted his face. He was the cutest Indian there,,,the ONLY Indian there. lol
thunder and lightning was all we got earlier. so hit the rain barrel and watered my plants, vaccuumed the pool and just sat in the back looking over the 'kingdom'. Yea, I like that word BJ, 'the kingdom'.....like you, I've worked hard on my kingdom,,,so to sit and look it over once in a while is nice.
LOL... Seedtosser1 = JUDY... easy mistake to make...
Judy... breath... breath... breath...
Don actually coined that phrase... he "walks his kingdom" every morning (when he's home) with his coffee cup. All the girls that were here just picked up on it. I usually wait till just before the sun goes down to walk the kingdom after dinner... it's my favorite time of day...
Sometimes, when the weeds are getting out of control, he calls it MY "wild" kingdom.
Judy... show Marilyn the pic of your wedding dress... don't remember who you said made that for you... but it's soooo beautiful...
I bet the little indian outfit was too cute... got a pic of Marcus wearing it?
I'm going to sit out and watch the bees fly around now... bbl.
LOL, Ross called this his estate! Men and their land.
hey y'all. Randall and I had the leftovers from dinner last night - there was still enough for us for dinner tonight even though Ruth jean ate all my leftover steak last night and all the rolls!
that earlier hosta photo was from May1st. here's same scene 30minutes ago...the azalea, astilbe, Elegans hosta, and Nikko Blue hydrangea are blooming. that high dark shadow is the camellia
LOL - BJ I don't have that one iris to send you! it was at Comanche Acres, in the St. Jo area MO, from my trips. it's a real oldie and cutie. and one horse is good enough to make a LOT of manure! LOL
Have heard many great gardener "pundits" on manures, horse vs. cow. some say it can never ever be cow on irises, as cow's have many stomaches and lots more iffy bacterias. others say never ever horse, because weed seed can get through whole. either way, straight fresh manure will burn the devil out of any plant.
I say - what I get is free. that's the key. got a few stables here abouts that give it to me. they always say it's aged....but it varies to much for my comfort. they don't keep track. I have place to put it that's nearly invisible and easy to get to from the street. - bare dirt in the front yard - where it can't be seen from the street. we pile about 18"-24" deep, start at one end, always add to the same end. Six months later start using it from the start end. Any that looks at least partially aged when I get it, I put some into the composters, too.
composted, I use it at about six months old. straight, I like for it to be around a year old, nine months at least. with my new pickup, I'm able to get it more often.
my irises really like the horse manure. I use commercial bagged cow manures in the rose beds, where I need a consistant pH. according to Witherspoons Rose Gardens (in this area, the top pundits on roses), roses like our red clay soil, and there's no such thing as adding too much bagged aged cow manure to it.
Ladies, look what is in my angel garden. Now if you don't like spiders, don't look, just scroll down real fast!
I don't like them either, but this was one I have not seen before. usually the tarantulas here are dark, almost black in color, so when I saw this one, I had to share it with you all! It is about 3 inches long, and the prettiest light brown!
LK
Oh, wow... that scene is gorgeous... Bonnie... I love that bed... so neat and tidy... and colorful.
Steven and Gwen bring me 4 huge buckets... probably 20 gal each... of cow manure... they pick up the oldest piles they can find... I dump it in my compost bin... in layers. So, it ages for a year before I use it, mixed in with all the other debris from the yard.
I have one bucket left... it's been sitting there for about 6 months, and I've dipped the "manure tea" from it sometimes for the garden... (maybe that's why the weeds in there grow so fast)... anyway... I will try tomorrow to spread that manure around a bit under the hostas, then put some mulch on top... hopefully they'll perk up some.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch... I picked another handful of beans this evening... at this rate, in a couple weeks I'll have enough to cook a mess for supper. LOL
well BJ remind me and I'll pick mine and bring them along monday and we can have fresh beans to cook up LOL
