Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #90

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

BTW-Terry-loved the good husband joke and I hope that you feel well today after your treatment-is it radiation??

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I will be getting some gardenia's in the ground, and some tomatoes in the topsy turvy hanging planters for my Dad.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Kids went back to school today!! YEAH!

Betty, I don't have to call the kids when they are home. They (DD) call me for everything little thing under the sun.

"Mom, the book you ordered arrived"

"Mom, Walker won't get up"

"Mom, can we go shopping tonight?"

"Mom, what do I do with the extra pancake mix?"

DS was gone sledding all day yesterday so he didn't have to deal with DD. She on the other hand wanted to be entertained.

So I have good news: I am now a full fledged consultant for Tastefully Simple! I've got 4 parties lined up and hope to get more from those. I love their products and can't wait to share them with my friends. When I get more acclimated, maybe we can do an "online party" with all my DG friends!!!

Well, back to work. Will chat leter.

Drats, had a long post, Suzanne getting ready to leave for the city, asked to borrow my GPS, out I went into the car, came back, thought I'd bring up the thread forgetting I already had a post...shaking my head here..

Tubby, the post was for you, I have to apologize, you were saying you had to go have bone medication administered through a port, is this in place of chemo??? Must hurt terribly to have it done.. how often must you go? so again my apologies, you know us old chicks, glance and read..so many times yesterday said I must make comment then off into a world of my own and forgot..have patience with us..lol..

Trisha, good looking lady .. nice photo even though it's a photo of a photo...are you unwinding today..just think, this weekend you might even get to rest or having time to play in the garden, either way, you can relax..or at least I hope you can..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jeannine, Tastefully Simple, is that a jewelery product or something else???? haven't heard of it here.. this is a sideline right, you are not leaving your present position..know about the kids calling..lol..don't know what's worse, staying home with them or taking the calls...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just called Greg, news broadcast just came on to say that Midland harbour has developed 4 to 6' pressure cracks in the ice..warning snowmobilers to slow down...

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey All - just popping in!
Yes -Betty a whole new cat! Skittles was female, Shadow is a Male. He has a little white spot at the neck....I made a joke once to DH....he is dressed like a priest.... :)
When we moved 7 years ago they both were still small and looked just alike....took us a while to realize we had the 'wrong' cat but by then....he was a "keeper". :)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Linda Kay, do you personally make the upside down tomatoe cages..saw them at LeeValley tools, quite expensive..gardenia's, wow, are they hard to grow, need heat don't they...

Mary, I have to laugh at that, last fall I'd bring Missy in and she and Riley would fight to beat the dickens, she wouldn't come near me which as soon as I sit down there she'd be...couldn't get close to her..tried everything that night..wouldn't you know, when I went to put her out in the morning and there sat Missy, wasn't even my kittie..must have been from same group that got left by the wayside...

Stacey I'm not forgetting, haven't heard anyone talking about the trip .. was waiting to see what goes..I'm sure paul will be please to see me taking all my holidays at beginning of year..

Everyone here today is going crazy, work/work/work, me I've my panel out for class tonight, tracing, looking for hotels in Washington D.C. - feel so guilty but he wants all my attention focused if someone needs an assessment...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have never heard of tastefully simple either. I looked it up online, and it is food products.

http://www.tastefullysimple.com/Cultures/en-US/

They look good, but kind of pricey.

LK

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I got them from QVC.com.

https://quality-s.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx?view=2&app=multi¶ms=file^/csscripts/cs_order_view.asp,membernum^00486787,ordernum^3426780954

My Dad has been wanting them for a few years now, so I finally ordered them. They are not just for tomatoes, you can do strawberries, peppers, as long as they don't get too heavy!

Good Morning Everyone! I got to work from my dr appt at 10:00, all the tests came out perfect so I don't know, he thinks it's a virus, he said intestinal viruses can take 6 to 8 weeks to get rid of completely, so if it flairs up again I'll go back, hopefully it won't and will just keep going away.

My boss said he was going to be late, his daughter is being prepped for braces and he had to take her to the orthodontist this morning and told me we would probably be getting here close to the same time, well, he called at 10:30 and said his son is still sick, been running a fever off and on for 3 days now, had a 102 degree this morning so he's going to take him to the dr at 1:30 so he won't be in at all. When it rains it pours!!

Well, I've got to get to work here at some point.

I didn't last long last night, did I. I was going to stay up for a while with ya'll, didn't happen! LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

You are just too smart Linda Kay, I never seem to think of looking on the internet..dah...know there is a jewelery collection that sells just like 'tupperware' did, house shows, thought it might be that..niece just had a show, bit pricey! food that's different..must go look at what they have... thanks

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Betty-that is funny-I will have to again get with Judy and Mom and see if we are all going to be OK with the arrangements-I did look and it looks like for us to drive it would cost each of us about $125-150 as apposed to $300-400 for plane fair-US $ of course

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

The site looks interesting-kind of like meals on the go type thingy-all in 1 package-easy to fix.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy, well that's good news though isn't it..nothing major..know what I had in January is still lingering..guess that's why most nights I'm in bed just after getting home, so takes it's toll..just think, sunshine getting stronger, days longer, once we get outside we'll forget about our woes, or nearly..drats, that poor child..guess it means more work for you today..no, didn't last long on the late nighters group either, but we tried..

LindaKay, strawberries sound interesting? will go look at the link..I'd love to have a garden again but it would mean losing some of my flower gardens, don't want to do that..precious gardens, but hanging planters, could you hang from a tree or where do you put them, maybe I could have tomatoes, strawberries, peppers then I'd just have to find a corner for beans and cucumbers...my favorite

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

It can hang anywhere it will get the proper light for what you are trying to grow. I have read that it helps if you wrap a coffee filter ot paper towel around the roots of what you plant, to help it from falling out the bottom.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Morning everyone......got Sage off to school.......she even Asked me to put her hair up in ponytail for her instead of the usual battle to get her hair brushed.....wouldn't have anything to do with me threatening to get her a very very short haircut this weekend would it?

The workmen should be at Laura's replacing the Bath floor as we speak....so maybe they will be able to get settled in now. They are pretty much to the dump run and cleaning stage at the old house. Sean's mother is coming down today to give them a hand, she is a professional housekeeper....she and Sean's brother have their own cleaning business.

Tomorrow I go up to North Bend (about a 2 hour drive up to the mountains) with my MIL to have lunch with sister in law and niece. It is Mother in laws 82 Birthday!

Tubby, enjoy the stories.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Betty, no, I'm not leaving my full time job. This is just on the side.

Linda Kay answered your question. TS is a gourmet food products business - where all of the products when prepared, require only 1 or 2 ingredients. This comes in handy if you get unexpected company or just can't find something to fix for the family. In addition, a lot of the products can be added to your current recipes to make it a whole new meal. Think crock pot! While some of the items appear pricey, they can also last along time depending on what you use it for. The Garlic Garlic is my favorite. I add it to different things like meats, potatoes, etc. as well as make an awesome dip out of it!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Waiting for everyone, Paul says he's taking us all out, birthday lunch..getting hungry here, don't know why, had a cheery treat this morning...

Stacey, you've figured it out..hmm how would it work i.e. are we using one of our cars, is this including rental??? where would all meet??? interesting..

Trisha, OMG Laura must be exhausted...getting a kick out of Sage..ponytail??? so easy when they have short hair..

Jeannine, sounds like a fun project..

ooops they are ready..

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Betty we have all worked the same time as we all helped set up the store before it opened. I know there are people in worse shape then me. I am not complaining (much) but it is what is going on in my life right now.

Fair1004 I think it was you that asked about a flower in one of my pictures. The snow has melted enough for me to check it out. It is a Blue Pearl Jacob's Ladder. I just planted them last year.

Victoria Harbour, ON

vicki, it's just you gear yourself for so many hours and then whammo something you didn't plan comes into picture..don't know about you but I'm a 'routine' sort of person, don't do with change that is out of my control...must go look what a blue pearl Jacob's ladder tooks like...think I have a few, didn't do well last year...

This year, I'm hoping to plant things that I've not had before, get a good balance of color..last year, think it was all yellow or white with tad of red..must get more vibrant colors...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sure won't have to go out for supper tonight..Mandarin Buffet offers every type of food there is, omg you should see the desert tables...I'm full..Paul asked me this morning if I had tried out the couch he brought in, for a joke i should get my pillow and go lay down...lol

Baton Rouge, LA

Betty - I know I've mentioned it....but have you tried www.tripadvisor.com? My Washington DC review is back in June 2006. We stayed at the Holiday Inn on C Street....

It was extremely close to everything...

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Hi all ..Back from Dr..And Menards of course..LOL..The bone med's. are no big deal..It takes 2 hr's because it can damage the liver if it is administered to fast. Even then they check my blood each time to keep an eye on the liver. So far so good (fingers crossed) My cemo. is all done had a bone marrow transplant in Aug. 04..Didn't loose my hair till then..LOL the bone meds.are like a bone vitamin.

I just say I going for my 2 hr nap.LOL

I HAD to go to Menards..Bought material to build 3 earth box's I for each of the DDs & one for Mom.
Mom will be 95 Sunday..She lives with oldest DS..They don't have a garden This way they can have a tomato,& cuke.or pepper plant..No weeding. No tilling No bending over ect..

It's 61 now going to be 66 degrees YAY

Baton Rouge, LA

Terry- will you send me a pic when they are done? DH might want to make one for his parents. MIL was complaining that couldn't garden the way they used to because if she got down to weed, she couldn't get back up.....

---'Holy Prostitutes'

A man is driving down a deserted stretch of highway when he notices a sign out of the corner of his eye....It reads:

SISTERS OF ST. FRANCIS
HOUSE OF PROSTITUTION
10 MILES

He thinks this is a figment of his imagination and drives on without second thought....

Soon he sees another sign which reads:

SISTERS OF ST. FRANCIS
HOUSE OF PROSTITUTION
5 MILES

Suddenly he begins to realize that these signs are for real and drives past a third sign saying:

SISTERS OF ST. FRANCIS
HOUSE OF PROSTITUTION
NEXT RIGHT

His curiosity gets the best of him and he pulls into the drive. On the far side of the parking lot is a stone building with a small sign next to the door reading:

SISTERS OF ST. FRANCIS

He climbs the steps and rings the! bell. The door is answered by a nun in a long black habit who asks, 'What may we do for you my son?'

He answers, 'I saw your signs along the highway and was interested in possibly doing business....'

'Very well my son. Please follow me.' He is led through many winding passages and is soon quite disoriented. The nun stops at a closed door and tells the man, 'Please knock on this door..'

He does so and another nun in a long habit, holding a tin cup answers the door... This nun instructs, 'Please place $100 in the cup then go through the large wooden door at the end of the hallway.'

He puts $100 in the cup, eagerly trots down the hall and slips through the door pulling it shut behind him.

The door locks, and he finds himself back in the parking lot facing another sign:

GO IN PEACE.
YOU HAVE JUST BEEN HAD BY THE SISTERS OF ST. FRANCIS. SERVES YOU RIGHT, YOU SINNER

welll looks like today ws a Dr day for alot of us! lol! I woke up early this morning and literally ran out of the house to get to my Dr appt on time...only to be told when I got there that they left me a message ~ appt was rescheduled for monday am :o( ugh! so, since I was already up and out running around... I stopped by the fabric store (Judy your package has FINALLY been sent! lol!) then to the craft store to buy some more paints, then back home to package things up, back to the post office, finally home and its already lunchtime here! ugh! where did the day go?! lol!

That food product line looks interesting...so off to do some online shopping?! lol!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I went to Burpee.com and bought 50 bucks worth of stuff! Oops!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Glad Tubby the process isn't painful! love the earth boxes, nice idea ..oh my, 95..fantastic..I come from a long line of aged people..grandma was 99 when she died..poor soul, she was so full of life, would be up to anything anyone wanted to do..now that I say long life line, not so, on my mom's side, my grandmother died before I was born..she was 37...

She'll just love the earthbox..what kind of container is used for inside? sterofoam?

AnnMarie, that's the pitz, going all the way there and appt. cancelled..craft paints, what are you up to now???? do tell..you know me, always interested in paint projects...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty that doesn't mean that long life isn't in your genes, it just means that there was someone who died way too young. My dad's mom passed at 95, it seems his dad died young, when my dad was 12 but it seems I was told that he was in his late 60's, there was a 20 year age difference between his parents. My dad's sister passed away at 64 but that was because of her chain smoking habit and not genes. On my mom's side my grandfather passed from heart problems that he never knew he had until it was too late at 77 years old (his 3 brothers and father all had heart problems, should have been a clue to get it checked out, but being a man, not hardly LOL! My grandmother passed at 83 from complications of Alzheimer Disease, she stroked out. Every man on my mom's side has heart problems and passes in their late 70's to early 80's, every woman dies of strokes in their mid 80's. I wish I knew more of the history on my dad's side, that would be good to know.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mary, not sure how I access your thoughts on D.C. last time I went to the link I think I had to sign up ...going to check once again, I'd love to read it...spent last hour looking for hotel..and no, not paying $200 a night for room..now way, just a place to put my head down...

Crissy now I have to go to Burpee.com to check what kind of things they sell..l

Victoria Harbour, ON

Guess Crissy I'll live till I die right?

what did you purchase at Burpee?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now you have me Crissy, another seed company to look at..have to see if they ship across the border..yesterday I found a site, kept adding to 'cart' as they say, thought even if I closed the system down for the night it would keep a record, not, so now I have to go through all my 'wants' again...off to look at the pretties...

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

It has false bottom.I haven't drilled hole for fill pipe..The bottom chamber is 5" deep That holds the water. The white piece is FRP board.Like you could use in a shower or tub enclosure..The holes are 4" you fill them full of the planting mix packed and mounded up..This serves as the wick.to keep the planting mix damp ..very important to use the mix not planting soil which will compact.. I'm using the decking mat. because It looks better & it will last longer It is more expensive. The link below explains what an Ebox is all about.& how it works I would defiantly advise looking at it.I'll be happy to answer any questions. There is a forum about these..They are much better informed..They have me hooked on using Coco Coir for planting mix The shipping is what makes it a little pricey The man that sells it BocaBob a DG man.from Florida. So the shipping would be better for you
.He also ships out of Tx. & Tn.
Yes the pink is insulation .Caulked and sealed to hold water
Under the FRP holes is 2 pieces of 4" pvc With holes in side.I used my miter saw and made several cuts,(carefully)
A scap piece of pink insul. also to hold up FRP is all around bottom chamber walls Next pic will make this clear
Even I don't understand what I just said LOL

I'm dense, just not understanding ...looks creative though..perhaps others have heard of e-boxes

Did hear of BobaBob's mix though somewhere on the threads...

Will have to watch you progress if that's ok...

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

my painting project will be lil garden signs with cute sayings....once it stops raining! ugh! problem is that Joannes is about 10 miles from me, and since Docs office was inbetween home and Joannes...well, figured I might as well get the fat quarters I needed to send off, and get the paint while I'm there. our joannes has more paint colors than michaels does. so I dont get out there often...but when I do, oh my! lol! DH is gonna kill me when he sees the credit card bill! I best start looking for a job real quick! lol! need more money for all these projects you all help me dream up! teehee!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Betty-that is renting like a mini van for about $400 and then gas...I figured you and Mom could come here and then we would scoop Judy up on our way:) Leaving on Friday, and coming back on Tuesday-Monday being Memorial Day and Mom's Bday, didn't think we wanted to travel that day...

Vicki-yes it was me-I have several of the Jacob's ladder, don't think I have that one though-planted on the E side of my house and all seem to be doing very well-2 I started from seed last year....

Crissy-you have been buying seeds, I have been buying books!!LOL

Finally took a pic of my 1st orchid I got at the show this last weekend

Thumbnail by Fairy1004
(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

And here is the cute little clay orchid I got-mom got 2 as well

Thumbnail by Fairy1004
Victoria Harbour, ON

wow Stacey that's a lot of travelling for those few days..would it have been possible to extend it a day or so, perhaps stop mid-stream? Who would be driving? lol..know it won't be our Judy...does the rental include mileage? wouldn't be hard for me to meet you at your place, have to look at the map to see where you are, where Judy is...will give me something to do for my last 20 minutes..love the orchid..

Now AnnMarie you can't say we encourage you, you do fine on your own..lol..tomorrow I'll go looking..back a few years ago there was a 'sign' thread..such wonderful sayings and ideas..perhaps I saved it in my 'favorites...' you mentioned you were at the post office..no mail?
