Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #90
Bev, they are calling for a high of 40 here in the next few days, talk about excited..truly..will seem like a heatwave after this past week...pretty picture..how is Scotty doing?
Barbara I can be young at heart all I want, just don't think I'd do those bra's justice..they are just so creative..someone had their thinking caps on..
Ok, so it has taken 10 mins for me to compose myself after reading Crissyr's account of the "accident" with the dwarf. You ahd me going and I swear, I laughed out loud here at work and laughed so hard I cried. And on the one day I wore mascara!
Betty, yes, I am 2 hours away from DC. I've scanned thru the posts - are you coming down this way?
The kids are out of school once again but I left them at home for my sanity's sake. We're suppose to be in the 70's by the weekend. I'm ready for spring now that I've had my snow!!
Jeannine, my plan is to bring the 4 boys to Washington D.C. for 4 or 5 days in April..leaving after work April 12th..that's Easter Weekend..with them having 4 days off anyway, they won't have to take additional days, well perhaps 1 or 2 extra depending on how I make out with all 4..one never knows, as their growing they just might not be in awe of grandma as they have been on other yearly trips...
OMG 70's, was worried if we'd still be wearing winter garb in April, small trunk to hold all our suitcases..2 hrs. isn't far is it?
Loved the joke as well, at the beginning though Crissy truly did have a fender bender...
Beautiful spoon necklace Liz..and earings to match..no wonder (pardon the pun) she was excited..she loves shells...amazing where you can get all thing mini-mini decorations to put within..you've got lots of patience ..
on the Canadian thread one of the girls were talking about this meter...I know gadgets are gadgets but if it worked even just a bit, how fantastic it would be...
I do have some birthday spending money..should I or shouldn't I??? have you heard of anyone having one? what they thought of it?
Love the Boobs in Bloom! They are very 'interesting' I'm in search of a better word if someone would like to help me :)
I'll take a padded one so they both look the same size!
Thank you for noticing..lol.
Oh my gosh Betty, those tiny little stictches, whew
But now I have one of those tiny little irons!! how cool is that, so want to make some more of those cards,They are just too neat!
I am glad you liked them, thought maybe you would think a kindergardner made them, ROFLOL, you notced i stayed clearof paint!! heheh.
Betty was telling Liz, don't know what my deal is...Boohhoooo, think Im experienceing some of the "change"
Let us just pray it is just the changing of Seasons outside and not in me! LOL, I think that would just suck, cuz i am just not that ready
for that stage...
Oh my gosh, now I will have to read the Emma Story, how fun to write as a group like that!!
Thanks for sharing that link!
OMG, had a great laugh at the Bra site!! wow, how creative.
Well, i still feel icky today, but thinking maybe I need to get outside and do something, will walk about and pick up more backyard debris! Wood needs to get reorganized...
Have a friend coming for a visit, so that will be nice.
Got to make a run to the store...Meatloaf for dinner!
Oh Crissy, i liked your Dwarf joke too...Made me smile!
As did many of the one Tubby shared.
See you in a bit.
PS...Liz, awsom job with Wonderhugs smiles!!
That has got to take some serious patients.
Also thanks for cheering me up this AM.
Judy many of us are starting to feel overwhelmed by the long winter..yep..as soon as we get out into those gardens we'll be fine..
ooops forgot the link didn't I for the 'meter'
http://www.hammacher.com/publish/76315.asp?promo=new_items
Diane just called, said our painting/quilt group are meeting tomorrow at 6pm before our class to talk to about her doing machine quilting, cost etc. for mine it would be a bit more because the quilting area is already stamped but, maybe be can come up with an alternate...
Diane also mentioned picking up co-ordinating flannel at a quilt shop..cost her $140. .. we both thought that a trip across the border to Joanne's might be in order ..leave here at 3:00 on a Friday and come back Saturday night...so that's another plan..
I'm on a seed thread right now..sure could place a hefty order..it's 'rare' seeds, now if I had that lovely monitor system I'd know right where to plant those seeds...
Hi ALL
This is so true!!! May we all be kinder to ourselves and others in 2009 !
I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making
my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avante garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.
I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.
Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and slee p until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60 &70's (for me the marvelous tunes of the '40s and '50s - JS), and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love .. I will.
I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set.
They, too, will get old.
I know I am sometimes forgetful.
But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things.
Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers,
or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and
compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.
I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face.
So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their
hair could turn silver.
As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore.
I've even earned the right to be wrong.
So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever,
but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about wha t will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day(if I feel like it).
MAY OUR FRIENDSHIP NEVER COME APART ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART!
MAY YOU ALWAYS HAVE A RAINBOW OF SMILES ON YOUR FACE AND IN YOUR HEART FOREVER AND EVER! FRIENDS FOREVER!

Betty do you bank here
An elderly woman walked into the Bank of Canada one morning with a purse full of money. She wanted to open a savings account and insisted on talking to the president of the Bank because, she said, she had a lot of money.
After many lengthy discussions (after all, the client is always right) an employee took the elderly woman to the president's office.
The president of the Bank asked her how much she wanted to deposit. She placed her purse on his desk and replied, '$165,000'. T he president was curious and asked her how she had been able to save so much money. The elderly woman replied that she made bets.
The president was surprised and asked, 'What kind of bets?'
The elderly woman replied, 'Well, I bet you $25,000 that your testicles are square.'
The president started to laugh and told the woman that it was impossible to win a bet like that.
The woman never batted an eye. She just looked at the president and said, 'Would you like to take my bet?'
'Certainly', replied the president. 'I bet you $25,000 that my testicles are not square.'
'Done', the elderly woman answered. 'But given the amount of money involved, if you don't mind I would like to come back at 10 o' clock tomorrow morning with my lawyer as a witness.' 'No problem', said the president of the Bank confidently.
That night, the president became very nervous about the bet and spent a long time in front of the mirror examining his testicles, turning them this way and that, checking them over again and again until he was positive that no one could consider his testicles as square and reassuring himself that there was no way he c ould lose the bet.
The next morning at exactly 10 o'clock the elderly woman arrived at the president's office with her lawyer and acknowledged the $25,000 bet made the day before that the president's testicles were square.
The president confirmed that the bet was the same as the one made the day before. Then the elderly woman asked him to drop his pants etc. so that she and her lawyer could see clearly.
The president was happy to oblige.
The elderly woman came closer so she could see better and asked the president if she could touch them. 'Of course', said the president. 'Given the amount of money involved, you should be 100% sure.'
The elderly woman did so with a little smile. Suddenly the president noticed that the lawyer was banging his head against the wall. He asked the elderly woman why he was doing that and she replied, 'Oh, it's probably because I bet him $100,000 that around 10 o'clock in the morning I would be holding the President of the Bank of Canada by the testicles
Morning everyone! Just got Sage off to school thought I would check in before mother in law shows up for Curves.
Judy hope you are feeling better……., you found my Eagle….I will try and get a good picture for you. We lived in Taiwan for a year, there was a town near where we worked and the main industry there was had carved wooden pieces….a group of guys from the factory gave me this 3 ½ foot Eagle carving when we left.
Oh my, speaking of birds spring is very near, have two little birds going through quite a mating dance our front right now….no good at ID but they are pretty little things.
Wood? Gal. Glass Jar? What are you doing now?
Beautiful necklace and earrings, can’t imagine working with such tiny items…I would be all thumbs.
MIL just called she is on her way….talk to you later.
Trisha we're all on the lookout for gallon glass jars, making squirrel feeders...now we have to purchase 'pickles' just ot have the jars..have to go back to your photo and see the eagle...lol
tubby I love the story of growing old...how very true, will pass it on..
No, don't bank in USA but have to say they always get a lot of my $$$$...should have an account...
Betty-is there anything you do want me to bring for you?? I LOVE the cathedral window pattern and would love to make one of my own....that meter is really cool!!! Something from Cracker Barrel??
Did you get my card yet?? tee hee hee
Liz and Laura-those are so cute-LOVE the detail!!!
Loved the bra site-I would totally wear some of those-a few look like paired with the right bottoms would be sexy!!
Mary&Judy-loved you little stories of the special people that have touched your lives!!
Betty, think you are right, well took a nice little ride to the store.
Sun is out nice and bright, warmer almost 50ish.
Yes Trisha, would love to see your eagle closer!
...Throat is feeling a little better.
Betty, are you working on something this afternoon?
Terry that is Hilarious! Love it!
With all of the moving and goings on you get Eagles complete with dust bunnies.....
We have to go get set up for the Rummage Sale then back to moving....everyone have a good day, hopefully I will catch up with you tonight......
Trisha I Love the Eagles! I have a friend who collects Eagles, he would flip!
Love the Eagle Trisha...omg a rummage sale? love those...
Now look at that squirrel, is he cute when he tries to get into the feeder to eat????
Stacey, nope, just bring yourself..no card yet Stacey...perhaps tonight..
Hilarious Tubby!!!!
Betty - Thank you for the link to the story. I just spent a wonderful hour completely oblivious to the world. These ladies are soooo talented. I can't wait to read what happens next. Back to sew......
You are quite welcome Barbara..amazing how stories take on a life of their own doesn't it? they should put it in print shouldn't they...what are you sewing and what pattern is it..sure it's a quilt????
Stacey the cathedral window you said you liked, apparently it's done in similar technique to rag quilt..meaning, back and front done at same time..will have to try a few squares..
Diane wants me to bring it to Carol's tomorrow night, might be something they'd be interested in doing
Jeannine, you call home to see if the kids are 'alive' still..my boys would say they found it interesting that when they were left on their own, there was no fighting..
Glad Judy the sunshine is making you feel better..nope, didn't bring anything into work today..sitting here quietly..looking at seed companies, had to go on my lunch to Michaels then off to the post office, across the street from post office in a bakery/diner, was running late to picked up lunch..I've just finished it...will be a nice trip home tonight, sunny..just the kind of day you'd love to go for a long ride...
Betty-maybe you can show me when I come what you do with the cathedral windows-thought I might practice that one with some pincushions first:) OK-if you change your mind, need a large jar-anything, JLMK:)
I just finished making the blocks for the Glutton swap. I know they aren't due to be mailed unitl May but now I know they are ready. Next is finding fabrics to use on the baby quilt challenge. I'm going on a shop hop this weekend so I'm sure I'll find just the right fabric. Seven shops in one day - heaven!!!! Then there are two BOMs that I need to get done. Love my Janome too. DH just installed some shelves for me in my quilt room so I guess I need to get that organized too.
The temp here hasn't been above 20 for several days now. It's sunny today but isn't melting anything. You asked about my gardening. We moved into this house a year ago and so last year we just let everything come up on it's own to see what was here. I discovered DG when I was trying to identify a bush/shrub in the back yard. I have breathing issues but my daughter and her family help to spring clean and she says she will plant anything for me. Last Mother's Day they came and edged everything. Then my grandson cut a tree from their property and he and his Dad made us a flagpole. Then they bought us a whiskey barrel and my SIL planted it full of pansies for me. This year will be easier once we get rid of the snow. Still about 12-14 inches in the yard!!! I did plant a clematis last year and several annuals. Also I had the most gorgeous orange tuberous begonia. It lasted well into the late fall.
I'm off to do a little shopping now. Will pop in again....
How about we add that to the list Stacey and we'll prioritize when you get here..lol..you are too cuts..what does JLMK:) mean????
Wow Barbara thats a lot of shops to visit...Baby quilt challenge?? is that here on Daves Garden...when I was in Buffalo last month I was at Joanne's, they had the most beautiful quilt tops, not the traditional cheater ones for baby's quilts but it was designed with different patterns with the rag type finish, you could purchase backing with same material, costly but omg what a beautiful quilt it would make..it's one of the first things I'll buy when I cross over the border next..yep Debbie, even before I hit a Cracker Barrel...
Sorry to hear you have breathing problems, nice of family to get involved and help you continue gardening...did the previous owners enjoy gardening which you now get the benefit of? NH - New Hampshire right..used to go to Boston a lot and Cape Cod, we'd travel through New Hampshire several times..beautiful country, that and Vermont...
Audrey, how are the knee's, still bothering you...
Vicki when do you start the reduced hours..
The glutton block swap and the baby quilt challenge are in the sewing and quilting forum. I also was in the last fat quarter swap, the winter block swap and the spring block swap. I've become addicted to these swaps - it's a wonderful way to use up some of this fabric I've been collecting. I started learning to quilt at an adult education class in 2001 and have never looked back!!! I've met some of the most wonderful people and now with DG, I feel there is purpose to what I love doing.
Yes, NH and VT are beautiful. We are about twenty miles or so from any major city and we just love the peace and quiet. Have wonderful neighbors and have made good friends. Not like the city at all. The thing I love the most here are the gas lights in our small downtown area and the fact that there are only three traffic lights in the whole town.
I guess I'm a country bumpkin at heart.....
Yes, Betty, I think I'm gonna go ahead with the laser surgery on my right knee. I'm having other problems, too. Shaking like I haven't done in years. My dr. gave me Buspar for my nerves. Going to another dr. tomorrow about sleep apnia. I think I have an obstruction in my breathing passage. I almost suffocated to death night before last. My throat closed and I couldn't get any air. I finally got a little, then a little more, and it finally opened up. That's scarey! I'm gonna get to the bottom of it!
Quilter, that is so lovely there in your area. Love the gaslights.
I am in a small town too, and NO traffic lights, but we do have a lovely park with a well lit walkway. It goes from about a block from my house all the way across to the library then from there on up into the little town area. I can walk all over town and still be just a walk away from home.
And your quilting, well, i have tons of quilts from all my ancestors who quilted, and I do have lots of fabric and still dabble in quilting. I live near Paducah and the America Quilter's Museum, so it is a big area for those who love quilting. The international quilt show is held there in April. A big event.
I am still painting, so think I will sign off now and wait for the Night Owls to show their faces tonight...you all have a good rest o f the day. BTW, it's about 60 here, and I am itching to get outside. However, the ladder still awaits....so no outside stuff till I get down off this ladder.
Be careful Sharran..
Audrey, omg what a feeling that must be to fight to breath..you thought you'd get away with not having the knees done, but you are still in so much pain, go for it..can't make things worse can it? Sleepnapia, do you have or will you have one of the masks that you use when sleeping so you don't struggle to breath? so many questions...must you rest all day or can you still get some things done..know you had a few quillows to do...
Shar, I wouldn't be on any ladder if it was 60 out...will that be the weather now, 60 and up, finished with low temps?
Barbara I'm also from a small town..Victoria Harbour is on the shores of Lake Huron but known as Georgian Bay, town has a library, liquor/beer store, hardware store, few restaurants, mostly open during the spring/summer and fall...a legion, 2 variety stores and a pizza parlor..next door to me secluded behind the tree line is a pizza type restaurant - various food items and a variety store...suits me just fine..means half the time I don't have to cook..lol..our Municipality has joined forces with Simcoe Country and have done bike/walking trails from Waubaushene to Midland...I'd say 30 miles..bought a bike last year, end of season, so am looking to get out this spring, quite a lot of trail is along the waterfront..living on the water most of my life, I do miss it, however, we have a park system that has waterfront and at the end of each concession in Victoria Harbour is access to the Bay, always say I'll go and sit there and enjoy but then get busy in my garden and there goes that idea... neighbors are wonderful, all looking out for each other..I've a son who lives in town with his wife and 2 kids, you'll often hear me speak of Kyle and Noah..both the boys are of age to ride their bikes to visit..sure enjoy that... would be neat having gas lights...
Yes, the gas lights are pretty. I'll try to get pictures when it warms up a bit. I, too, have family here in Hillsboro. My daughter Stacy and her family - husband Scott , and my two grandsons, Brandon 13 and Sean 7. They keep Papa and myself hopping at times. They are about five miles away. Brandon can ride his bike to our house but not yet for Sean. There are no sidewalks and the streets are narrow. (Good old New England ones) We do have a grocery store and a pharmacy but no department store of any kind. Nowhere to buy clothes or shoes etc. It's a 20 mile hike for that kind of thing. And we all know how rough boys can be on those. But we do have a quilt shop!!!! For a while anyway. She is moving to Oregon but isn't sure how soon. There are several restaurants and a McDonalds. Got to have something to keep the kids happy I guess.
But all in all we love it here......
Betty-JLMK=Just Let me Know:)

Betty, I like that meter! imagine all the money I'd save not killing plants and replacing them lol! maybe I should amend the list I'm creating for DH and add that too! lol! Love the fan and card!
Trish, what size jar is that on your squirrel feeder? Mine is only 1 qt size...so far no squirrel have found it, so I dont have to fill it often :o) lol! I'm sure they will find it soon tho!
Liz, I love the earrings and spoon necklace...you MUST have lots of patience to create such beautiful tiny pieces!I dont think my nerves could take it! lol!
Betty you remided me I need to go remove the cage from DSs studio before he comes home! lol! He is coming for an overnight visit this saturday, gotta go out there and clean up the mess so he doesnt find out I was using his room to house my hen! lol! Hen is much better, so I put her back out with the other gals yesterday.
