Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #90
Hi Betty, did you have a good day?
Yayyyy for Laura Wonder!
Laura, knew you were getting a 'surprise' how wonderful..and yes, Liz sure knows how to surprise and make ones day...bet it's adorable
You've had the children off and on with you for quite a few years Laura, that alone must be stressful..is your daughter also looking for accommodations? not that you mind but I'm sure she'd like her own home as well..is your son moving nearby???
You sound so happy, and all it took, was a little 'puppy'...nearly trained already?
What did I get for my birthday....
hmmm Home Depot cards (3) , $200. / cash spending money (must know I ship a lot to USA..) hehehe... lovely blouse which I wore today, flowers and mom had bought me that beautiful candle lantern when we were at Cracker Barrel, she says she owes me a birthday gift that wasn't it, but I told her it was....so spoilt I was...
Laura I also had a surprise tonight..got to the post office at 5:45 as I had to stop and pick up a 'swap' item for shipping and the post office closes at 5:30..the girl there is so lovely, I yelled into to open mail box I have, said, 'you're working late' she immediately opened the main door (which is a no/no) said I've a parcel for you..must be a special occassion because I've put a lot of cards in your mail slot....so sweet...
Judy is getting quite professional with her sewing...I received a beautiful fan and card she made..thanks Judy..a lot of work just to send to this old gal..but it's appreciated..
Oh's and ah's please...
Yes I did Shar, just got home, had my bath, must get something to eat although not hungry..well maybe I'm hungry but making something seems to be too much work..am sure you how that is....how did your day go, did you manage more painting? Can you get outside now and do yard duty or is it still cold?
when I got home of to back storage shed to look for pattern bin, here it's -24 with wind chill factor and here I'm riffling through a pattern bin..omg my fingers were cold..so brought the bin in..Stacey didn't find the Dahlia pattern packet, must have been in the lost bins..
But I did find lots of other goodies...
pattern for the quilted wallet, a nighty pattern that I must make for ME or perhaps Christmas gifts..me first though...the quilted 'strip quilt' chair seat and chair back set which I promised someone, now I found it who did I say I'd sent it to?
then I went down memory lane as I emptied the pattern box...omg so many smocked patterns, everytime someone had a baby I'd make a dress....with no girls in my family I'm amazed at all the girl outfits I've made..one was a flower girl dress for a niece's wedding , so cute, was made of flower petals..even have some of the material petals/ribbon left..
T
Did find some cute 'boy' things and so many patterns for quilted jackets, vests etc.
What I did find were plastic templates for quilt top designs..even a set of 6 pieces that you could use for various patterns, folding technique..think I made a cathedral top with them...
So all was not lost, found some goodies, could use the wallet, it has so many places for cards, bills and change purse, my old one lasted about 10 years..must get ambitious...
LindaKay not sure the 'flat rate' boxes would work sending from Canada..I'll tell you after I saw what Liz and Judy sent and what it cost them, I'm not so sure your postage is not more than ours..
My Aunt Muriel must have dropped in today, she had visited with mom at the cottage on the weekend and when mom called yesterday she said she had sent me a 'care package' lol..mom's always worry about their children don't they..anyway she left a bag at my back door..even though the door is open and I told her so last night when she called, she wouldn't come in...
Told mom I'd like a new table cloth..she sent me 2 with serviettes..not my color but will be pretty regardless and I'm sure with all these tables inside/outside there will be an event that I can use them...then she was complaining that the cross stitch king size quilt top she made me hadn't been quilted yet..told her I was looking for a king size sheet-good quality so I can use it for backing, well there was one in the package..about 12 t-towels, she must have forgotten she sent me same a few months ago..lol...then some lovely bubble bath which I've already used..Missy doesn't like the bubbles though...
Going through pattern packets is almost like going through the photo boxes...I know Judy, I've got to find photo's..that will be my next challenge...promise...
And that is my night...interesting...
Just popped back home to hook up the printer for DH.....
Spent the afternoon helping Laura...headed back over now to continue work....making progress....they will be sleeping in the new house tonight. Will be so happy when all is done! Looks like a long night so don't know if I will make it back on or not, if not will talk to you all tomorrow!
wow, I missed ALOT on the Night shift last night! lol! you all have already moved on to another room!
guess all that wine and music put me to sleep :o( lol! I'll do my best to stay awake tonight.... maybe I'll make some brownies to go with the milk :o)
Betty, a while back you told me about a breadmaker that Kneads the dough for ya, and has a timer.... do you know the model name? I tried looking thru old threads and well...there are just too many posts! lol! someday I'll figure out how to bookmark posts on here ...
Hi night shift! I haven't figured out what shift I am, like tomorrow you probably won't hear from me all day, or almost all day lol. Tonight Dave stayed awake so I watched a movie with him. He didn't want to watch Idol and I could have gone into the bedroom to watch it, but it's recorded on DVR anyway so who cares, I'm going to go watch it here in a bit.
Bev I am going to send you some seeds too! Yay!!
So I have seeds going to:
Betty
Linda Kay
Terry
Bev
Let me know if I missed anyone or if you want Flying Saucer (Large) yellow and orange Coreopsis seeds. Free until supply runs out LOL

Two Mexican businessmen in Tijuana were sitting down for a break in their soon-to-be new store. As yet, the store wasn't ready, with only a few shelves set up.
One said to the other, 'I bet any minute now some idiot tourist is going to walk by, put his face to the window, and ask what we're selling.
No sooner were the words out of his mouth when, sure enough, a curious Japanese tourist walked to the window, had a peek, and in a thick Japanese accent asked 'What you sell?'
One of the men replied sarcastically, 'We're selling butt-holes.'
Without skipping a beat, the Japanese man said, 'You doing velly well, only two left.

A little boy got on the bus
A little boy got on the bus, sat next to a man reading a book,
and noticed he had his collar on backwards.
The little boy asked why he wore his collar backwards.
The man, who was a priest, said 'I am a Father.'
The little boy replied My Dad doesn't wear his collar like that.'
The priest looked up from his book and answered 'I am the Father of many.'
The boy said 'My Dad has 4 boys, 4 girls and two grandchildren
and he doesn't wear his collar that way'
The priest, getting impatient, said 'I am the Father of hundreds'
and went back to reading his book.
The little boy sat quietly thinking for a while, then leaned over and said,
'Maybe you should use a condom
and wear your pants backwards instead of your collar
No NO Sharran
A woman is standing nude looking in the bedroom mirror. She is not happy with what she sees and says to her husband, 'I feel horrible; I look old, fat and ugly. I really need you to pay me a compliment.'
The husband replies, 'Your eyesight's darn near perfect.
And that's how the fight started..LOL
SAFE ONE
The police officer got out of his car as the kid who was stopped for speeding rolled down his window. 'I've been waiting for you all day,' the officer said.
The kid replied, Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could.'
When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on his way without a ticket.

Welcome Night Shift! I have the milk & cookies out. Anjl - Thanks for the delicious warm brownies! We're offering a Sunset Blush tonight....I'm out of cheese & chocolates so if anyone wants to bring...they are welcome. Sharran is probably busy putting the music on for us. (pandora.com?). Liz - I brought a Six pack of Miller Lite just for you. Does anyone have some scented candles?
Okay - Now for Idle (IDOL) chatter: You know I had the Band Booster Meeting tonight. SO I missed the first half. So far my votes are for Lil Rounds and Jorge.
(SO who was it that clued me into Lil Rounds....crissy? Anjl? Trisha? You were right....she is FANTASTIC!)
Betty and all, Regarding Shay....we have a Percussionist in the band...his name is Mason...he has Downs Syndrome. (He will tell you he is the Tambourine Man). He is a delight to all. And tonight when I really needed someone to volunteer for something his mother, Donna, spoke up. I always feel bad in a way when she helps out because what she has probably been through with him....but I probably shouldn't because the band LOVES Mason. He has brought joy to our lives....I guess that is a similar story. I know Mason's experience in band has brought something to his life. Mason could be a Senior, but Donna is holding him back so he will graduate as a Junior...with my son Brock. And there's his mom.....one of the few (seven) families represented at the Band Booster meeting tonight...and yet willing to spearhead our main fundraiser for next year.... I am honored and humbled for her to join in and be more involved than the other parents.
Sharran - God Bless you for helping these special children!
Ok....found a mulberry candle, a little white wine, got some Jordan almonds....a little Norah Jones....some Celine Dion, a bit of Chicago.....we're good to go!
I do have a little follow up to do with my DG article today, but that won't take long, then I'll be back. I am having a gathering of 5 of my high school buddies in October, they are coming from California, Tennessee, Ohio and Kentucky.....to my house. We are having a "slumber party" and i am thinking of plans for that amazing event. We have not all been together since 1960....wayyyy before some of you were born. But it sure will be fun.
You all watch your program and I'll be back soon. BTW...Thanks Mary, it is always my pleasure with kids of all kinds.
Good evening, I think I just heard the timer on my pizza....that is all I have the energy for tonight....and yes Beer.....a big glass of Soporro straight out of the freezer!!
Move is the dirtiest of the four letter words!!!! I will be sooooooo happy when they are done! We made a huge dent in it today.....I left them working and decided the best help I can be tonight is to bring Sage home and put her to bed....they will pick her up for school in the morning. I have her again tomorrow night.....Laura, Sean (SIL), Shawn (DS) and Lisa (FDIL) are going up to Seattle to see Hank Williams III.
BRB, Pizza is done.
sheesh! sorry I was running late! but brownies have been delivered! lol! ~~ well, what was left of them after DH found out! lol!
Trish...you have PIZZA?! yay!
OHHHH.....on top of everything else going on I have found the thread where Sharran and group are writing a book....I am really getting sucked into this story, now I have to find time to catch up on reading this!!! It is really good!!
Pizza was all I had the energy to cook tonight.....we only let DH cook Pizza, Soup and Sandwiches......he is an expert at a lot of things...cooking is not one!
Finally got the article thing finished for this day.
OK, think about this...my newest brainstorm.
I am planning a "slumber party" for my 5 best friends from when we were in elementary school together. I have been thinking of it for awhile, and finally sent an e mail to all of them, and we are going to all get together here in October. Three of us started 1st grade together, we picked up two others in Sunday School then they joined us in our next school in 6th grade, then we picked up my cousin when we were all in HS together. We have not all been together since '60 when we graduated...so.....that's where I left off above, but think of the fun and probably the fights we'll have. I can't wait. We have always been in touch, but never together. Three of us are widows, sudden deaths of our husbands actually, so we really have helped each other through the past two years. I can't wait, and will drive myself crazy just planning it. But I have a long time to plan, and a long time to be excited.
This is a tourist area around the lakes, so there will be lots to see and to do.And October is still pretty weather, and the leaves will be turning then, too.
I haven't had a gathering like this in a long time, though my college sorority roommates and I get together sometimes at one of their homes. She owns a horse farm in Lexington, so she has lots of room, and actually most of them live in the Lexington/Louisville area, so most don't have a very long drive. It is about 4 hours from me.
Anyway, that's my news for the evening. And no, I didn't watch TV, so don't have a thing to contribute, so you'll have to chat about that, and I'll just sip my wine and eat my almonds.....
OMG Trish.....the book just took a twist tonight...you gotta read it.
my turn is next, so I might be up all night writing it.
Sharran that sounds like sooo much fun! my DD had slumber parties every year for her Bday, and it was always the same group of girls (13 of them!) they did scavenger hunts, toilet papered houses, crank calls, etc....also every year I would bake cupcakes and they would decorate and frost them. This year DD turned 19 and said she really missed having the slumber party! lol! I told her that her and the girls can ALWAYS come to my home for a slumber party! lol! I think I had the most fun at those partie, just watching all those girls giggle all night long!
I just found the book yesterday.....I have a lot of catching up to do.....but I am hooked.....I am just to where the boys have collected the cig. butts and are taking them in for DNA testing tomorrow!!
I used to read all the time, but not so much any more.....except for J.A. Jance and Ann Rule. Just haven't been able to stay interested in most stories..... I am really enjoying this one!
When my daughter was little and had slumber parties, they always liked to play beauty shop and dress up. That was fun because I gave them lots of old make up and boxes of dress up stuff. Then they decided that they wanted to make me up and do my hair.
You gotta understand, I have a ton of curly hair...so I would let them, but goodness, you should have seen what they would do. Those were the days of Punky Brewster, so you can imagine. One time they got the stretcher bands tangled in my hair and I had to douse my head in cream rinse to get them all out.
Somewhere there are pictures......
I think that was about the time that I decided short hair would be much better. So now it stays short.
I don't think we will be doing that at my upcoming slumber party.
Not that we didn't do it all those years ago, but they never touched my hair in those days.
I love Jance and Ann Rule...have a whole collection of both.
BTW Mary...
Beautiful about Mason.
I caught up and the story is getting good!
Morning all, Shar that was a great article yesterday..drats, they should have another way of showing the articles, I keep forgetting to go to home page then go searching..guess all our DG access comes differently depending on how we set it up..have no idea how I did that...Shar, must go read the 'novel'
Slumber party, how wonderful..I'm sure you'll have so much planned there will not be time for sleeping..nice that you've continued your friendship all through these years..I have a few girlfriends that I've done same with..all live nearby so never think of having a 'slumber party'
Trisha, all but a couple more days and it will be so nice for you to have Laura nearby..guess Sage is still too young to be able to walk over and visit..won't be long she'll be able to do so...
Mary loved the story about Mason...funny how those who have so much going on in their lives always seem to find time to volunteer yet to one more thing...precious!
Didn't see Judy on yesterday, don't think so..geewillickers, she busier now than she was when working..must be her new found love for sewing..perhaps Liz is getting her into mischief..they are quite the pair...
AnnMarie are you feeling any better? not overdoing it are you...how's your son..omg chicken in his lodgings..what will you think of next...lol
Waving 'tubby'...glad you put titles for Shar...lol too cute..
Floormat back on the tables so it can " relax " if I hurry getting ready and have 10-15 minutes before I have to leave I might go looking for colors that match my upstairs decor..I've hundreds of paints but just you watch and see, none will be the colors I need..always happens....if I was smart each night this week, (drats there is only tonight, tomorrow I paint in Barrie)...I'd paint for 1 hr. and that would guarantee it would be ready for the floor on Monday...
Suzanne won't be in the office this a.m. and Paul is in Toronto so it's me and the girls..they are in their office and I just don't see them except when they come out for lunch or washroom break, do hope someone is around to keep me company on the day shift!!!
Best go get ready..
May I ask what book you all are talking about? I'm new here and can't seem to find it. Don't know if I'm a Day Shift or Night Shift yet. It's COLD here in NH and a good book is just the thing. Thanks, Barb
Terry I got a whole bunch of those "Then the fight started" yesterday on my personal email, that was one of them. My favorite is the dwarf one, that is just way too cute.
It was me!! Lil Rounds is going to win the whole thing! She not only has a good voice, she just gets it.
Okay Ya All wake up
A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store but she couldn't find one big enough for her family. She asked a stock boy, ' Do these turkeys get any bigger?'
The stock boy replied, 'No ma'am, they're dead.'
Yes the dwarf one is cute..You just have to picture it and its even funnier LOL

NO No Sharran
A farmer stopped by the local mechanic shop to have his truck fixed.
They couldn't do it while he waited, so he said he didn't live far and would
just walk home.
On the way home he stopped at the hardware store and bought a bucket
and a gallon of paint. He then stopped by the feed store and picked up a
couple of chickens and a goose. However, struggling outside the store he
now had a problem; how to carry his entire purchases home.
While he was scratching his head he was approached by a little old lady
who told him she was lost. She asked, "Can you tell me how to get to
1603 Mockingbird Lane?" The farmer said, "Well, as a matter of fact,
my farm is very close to that house I would walk you there but I can't
carry this lot."
The old lady suggested, "Why don't you put the can of paint in the
bucket, carry the bucket in one hand, put a chicken under each arm
and carry the goose in your other hand?" "Why thank you very much,
" he said and proceeded to walk the old girl home.
On the way he says "Let's take my short cut and go down this alley.
We'll be there in no time."
The little old lady looked him over cautiously then said, I am a lonely
widow without a husband to defend me; How do I know that when we
get in the alley you won't hold me up against the wall, pull up my skirt,
and have your way with me?"
The farmer said, "Holy smokes lady! I'm carrying a bucket, a gallon of
paint, two chickens, and a goose. How in the world could I possibly hold
you up against the wall and do that?"
The old lady replied, "Set the goose down, cover him with the bucket,
put the paint on top of the bucket, and I'll hold the chickens.
You gotta love the old folks.
LOL I can almost see me saying that too, that's what's really funny. I don't think I'd ever have the guts to actually come out and say it, but I would definitely think it.
Good Morning!
Wow, look at all I have missed.
Was pretty sick yesterday, so sorta did nothing.
Betty, wow, I think it was a record for your present to get there.
It's not really much but I did have a ton of fun making and learning from them too.
Hope you enjoy em...LOL, not too bad for just learning, I thought.
...Liz, recognize the bird pattern, was one of my favorites.
Oh Gosh, So glad you like your bracelets Wonderhug, liz was so excited to make them for you.
LOL, and I have got to admit, talk about getting them in record time! She just mailed them, so where do you have her hidden??
She must have delivered them herself at the speed of lightening!
Liz, By the way did you read Shar's article?? it was was about your favorite Batchlor Buttons!!
Great article Shar!, HAHA, I was laughing at your young decription of yellow dressed swaying figure.
lol, wasn't quite how to laugh really loud in writing, so opted to just be quiet.
I am not my best here today, been tearful over stupid stuff...guess I am still sick.
Think I have cabin fever...
LOL, the sewing is at ahalt for the moment, I am brain dead too.
Think it's time to watch the birds.
Mary, love reading your night shifts! LOL, Liz drinks Corona, hehehe, you know them tiny little ones! I'll drink the Miller light! thank you for providing.
Trisha, pretty soon you will be able to rest a little bit. Nice table! just cleaned mine again...Do I see an Eagle in the backround?
What fun Shar, loving the slumber party idea. i have a friend who goes and meets her college buddies every year, they are on like the 40th reunion.
I have enjoyed reading of everyone's special friend.
Mine, is Eleana.
She was one of the Children I worked with.
I just adored this little girl. You weren't suppose to have favorites, but she was mine.
I think it was through her gift of love that I am around.
Everyone who came to know her, felt a special love.
She could not speak, but her eyes dazzled as if you knew exactly what she was saying.
We signed to understand eachother.
I stil have her photo and medals from Special Olympics on my ledge.
We are all blessed to have many special peoples in our lives.
Well...didn't mean to write a book.
So what are you up to today Betty? nice patterns...
I have a piece of wood, but now I have to go buy a gal. glass jar somewhere!
see you all in a while...going to make some more coffee.
morning all,
betty you made out like a bandit!!!! no i didnt hear from judy yesterday she might be into a project lol not my idea he he he,family arguments in full force again, so petty and jelouse of everyone who has a life, they have no hobbies friends and live for 60 minutes, news and news paper omg i pitty them! ahhh but on to better things lol i finally got to pick my first artichoke wow it took forever to harvest will have to cook it tonight,

laura hugs to you glad it made you smile
Sorry Judy you are not feeling well..lots of 'yuk' going around..did enjoy your gifts, the material card I put near the geraniums so that they compliments each other, the fan is on the shelf in the 'cafe'..lots of sewing, I examined it carefully to get ideas..lots of work went into that..omg you stitches on the card flower couldn't even be found..
Perhaps Judy your feeling tearful is from all the back stress of no longer working..things have a habit of coming back for you to deal with..you also do far too much..a few days relaxing will surely put you on the road to recovery..
Barbara the link to the 'story telling' that a group of girls have undertaken to write ..takes on a life of it's own is here I believe...
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/951519/
Hope that's the right link..you'll enjoy..
Loved the photo Crissy you posted of the flowers..so bright and cheery, I do hope they take up here in the north...
Carol, was listening to the A Chanel this morning and I thought goodness all this news is from last night and it was..can you imagine, most of our local news stations because of the economy will no longer be doing on air news..just once a day and I guess from the sounds of it repeated once or twice..that's not good, how will I know when I shouldn't be driving..lol
Liz, lol, always drama in their lives isn't there...you sure did make Laura's day with your jewelery, can see her prancing all around showing everyone the gorgeous jewelery made JUST for her...
I'm almost afraid to wear the beautiful bracelet she made me..keep it as a souvenir..
Bev, are you able to work outside yet?
Ladies - check this out. I was truly amazed!!!
http://www.quiltersofsc.org/artfullbras/artfullbras.htm
You will love it.
OMG how adorable and for a good cause..
Love the 'Boobs in Bloom'
Couldn't you just see yourself prancing in the house wearing some of those...well, perhaps not, but I'm sure if I were 30 years younger I might have..
As long as you are "young at heart" you can do anything!!!!!!
