Victoria Harbour, ON

you guys are just too cute...do you think AnnMarie maybe that's why they haven't used yours, not feeling safe in a smaller area to get in/out?

Sunshine on my way home, as I came down the street I thought I really should stop but for a few minutes to visit with Cliff and Bernice, they were sitting 2 grandchildren, the youngest being taught by Cliff how to play I think it was the mandolin...all kinds of music was being made..she had just taken out a quiche and applecobbler, wanted me to stay for eats but tummy still not the greatest, of course I had to come home with applecobbler..just ate it, yum/yum..

As many of you know Cliff and Bernice are Christian and assist in keeping their local branch going..they both visit the seniors complex in our area and provide singing and instrumental entertainment..really they are quite talented..rarely do you go in and they don't have the bible open, true believers in their faith..always a welcome and a hug when you visit..

The reason I'm telling you this info is to relay a story Cliff told me..

Said that early February a friend asked is Cliff would travel to Vancouver, B.C. -furthest west of our provinces so quite a hike, his friend has to bring an ultra light plane to somewhere on Vancouver Island... a 2 week trip so Cliff decided to go...mid way, province of Saskatchewan the vehicle they were driving started to act up, would barely travel 20 mph, the odd time even less so Cliff and his friend Ben said a prayer and put their faith in the Lord...no sooner had they done so the car picked up speed, knowing that trouble was still ahead and that Regina was nearby asked for help once again from the Lord..took an exit which looked as though they were heading into the middle of nowhere when all of a sudden the vehicle chugged/chugged almost to a stop and there was a Canadian Tire .. it was Sunday and closing at 6pm..Monday was a holiday..young man on duty said he was an apprentice and couldn't help but would make a call to the owner..when the owner arrived he checked their vehicle and found the transmittion was gone, oil from one end to the other..guess to Ben it wasn't worth fixing, said he'd go on the look for another vehicle when the car lots opened Tuesday..Super 8 motel next door so accommodation easy to find...

Just then the manager/owner of the Canadian Tire store after talking with Cliff and Ben, said he had a Tracker that had a hitch and he for the life of him had tried to think of a way to get the vehicle to Oakville for his daughter..now Oakville from here is but 125 miles maybe...said he'd service the vehicle, they could use it, continue their trek to B.C. and then drive it home..that way Ben could purchase a vehicle at home rather than on the road... imagine, so there they were with a vehicle to use..when they arrived home, they would have passed Oakville but it was in the middle of the night so they decided to come home then call the daughter and they would make arrangement to go to Oakville and deliver the vehicle..when they reached her in the morning she said her boyfriend worked in Barrie and they could drop it off there, only but 30 miles from their home...

Moral of this story as per Cliff....ask the Lord and he will provide...he sure did in this instance..they could have been stranded thousands of miles away..

I'm sure none of that made sense but I thought it was a nice story...

Got home, put my head down on the couch to let my tummy settle, just woke up..love to watch 'Lie to me' it's on now so must run...

If I don't get back for the night shift, Crissy you ask all the right questions at the dr's..you need to find out what is causing all this 'yuk'

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Hello Nightshift!!

I'll let you know how it goes, even though it's almost gone, but still way too long to be dealing with something like that. The blood work and sample and all will tell him if I have a problem though, so that's good.

Terry LOL!!

That's such a good story Betty!

I wanted to stay for the nigh shift for a little while but I'm cold, coughing my lungs out, and am going to throw a warm blanket on myself and do some embroidery.

Oh and now I have the hiccups!

Hey Night Shift! Crissy, Sharran, Anjl, Trisha, and all the lovely ladies hanging out with us tonight!

Crissy - I bet Lil Round was by far the highest votes by the way they just sent her right through. There was no one she could have stood up with that would have been believable. But my 2 made it, Lil & Jorge. Not so happy they've brought Tatiana back.

I'll check back in a bit....

Trying to listen in on teens conversation.... :)

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Only in Alaska .......

This guy raised an abandoned moose calf with his
horses, and believe it or not, he has trained it for lumber removal and
other hauling tasks. Given the 2,000 pounds of robust muscle, and the
splayed, grippy hooves, he claims it is the best work animal he has. He
says the secret to keeping the moose around is a sweet salt lick,
although, during the rut he disappears for a couple of weeks, but always comes home....

Impressive !!

ALASKAN CLYDESDALE

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Hey Mary...
Be careful, listening to teens we sometimes hear things we shouldn't hear.....:)

I finally finished a segment with the story we are writing on the Parking Lot forum, think Trisha found it yesterday: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/951519/

It's fun to write, never knowing what the next one is going to say, and having to think fast when it's your turn. But so far it has been fun. I already have an idea for the next one.

I am so tired tonight I might not linger long. I have shelves all the way to the ceiling in my studio, and on the top shelf are antique books. Well I have been painting the walls and ceiling in that room and so today I climb up to get the books down off the shelves, up and down the ladder dozens of times, so I am worn out. I love books and have wayyy to many, some antiques, so I looked through them more than I painted, I think.

I also have a ton of art books, art history books, ancient historical artifacts, geesh, you name it I have it. And books on quilting and on pottery, and on education (think I will get rid of those). I need to have a giant yard sale and get rid of a lot.

Tomorrow I go to my gallery to take down a show, then put another up. That's always fun. Lots of people are involved, and so I usually have help. The upcoming theme is Flowers....so I should have lots of paintings to hang, since lots of people paint flowers. Thought it would cheer things up in the gallery. Along with a lot of other people, we've all had a rough winter.

No snacks for me tonight, I just finished a huge salad....and feel stuffed. I don't eat much meat and run low on protein, so tonight I dumped a whole can of tuna on mixed salad greens, peppers, along with some jack cheese...it was really good. Might do it again tomorrow and add a boiled egg. I need more protein than I am getting.

What's up with you all tonight? I am going to have to start watching TV, seems as if I am missing some good talent.

You have Sage tonight Trisha?

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All;

Sharran - you are so right. Most times I have to "shut my ears". That salad sounds really good. I've put myself on a "mostly" soup and salad diet.

This Pandora thing you & Betty turned everyone on to is amazing. How does it "know" what my favorite artists are?

Now it's playing Sarah McLaughlin. (HOW does it KNOW !!! She's one of my favorites!)

I'm really itching to check out this book you are all writing.... But I've forbid myself from reading until I lose some weight..... I usually eat when I read...that's probably weird but that's what I do.....

I could really be topical with the latest going on with the teens, but golly - that's an everyday thing....around here with three of them....there is constant drama.....

It can be a real Soap Opera most days. Don't want to bore you all with the usual family drama....

I suppose.....no.....I know....I'll miss it one day. Can't believe my DS is graduating next year.

I've really enjoyed reading about the small towns Quilt /Betty live in. Seems so peaceful....and that's delightful after the day/week I've had. I'm so sick of these corporate "Suits" I work for acting as if I'm so so lucky to be working for them....and what they expect us to do to compete to keep our wonderful jobs.

They are so wrong. I've lost my Mom, and I know what life is about. It's not about working. They can just let me go. I can get other work and enjoy my life, my kids, my family.

It's been a rough week at work. I thank you all for putting perspective in my life. Thats the same thing gardening does...brings you closer to the important things in life....doesn't it....

Hugs to All,
Mary
Baton Rouge, LA

PS: WIsh I could send sunshine your way...was high of 80 today.....

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Oh Mary...sorry about your work. No fun at all when that's the situation.

Hey.....I had sunshine and 60 today, so things are looking up!

Doing what you love brings you closer to the important things. Guess I was fortunate to be able to work in a field I loved, with kids I loved and who loved me. My daughter pulled me into facebook, and honestly, almost all my friends there are my old students. They somehow find me, and it is incredible. I love those kids.

Here is my work supervisor on the short ladder....this is Jazz.

A man with a pegleg, hook hand and an eyepatch went to apply to be a pirate.
Interviewer: How did you get that pegleg?

Pirate: Arrr. I got me leg shot off during the first world war.

Interviewer: How did you get that hook?

Pirate: I got me hand cut off by a big knife.

Interviewer: What about your eyepatch?

Pirate: It was a rainy afternoon and I looked up into the sky and a bird crapped in me eye.

Interviewer: And that put your eye out?

Pirate: No, it was the day after I got me hook.

Good Night

Baton Rouge, LA

HA - That is safe but funny....

Sharran - Jazz is wonderful...he reminds me of my Shadow. Shadow is a very fat cat...he loves me so much and wants to get in my lap when I am on this computer....

I have talked with another Band Parent who was a teacher, they have a program for business folks, it's $300 and when you are finished you can get a job teaching. I think that would be SO rewarding. What I do is not so much rewarding.

To mold, motivate kids, it just seems to me to be a way to make your mark in this life.

That I am unable to make with this job I have now.

Shadow's Story Next...

Hugs,
Mary

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

I would think if you have a degree in a specific field, like business, then there is a program, a short program, that you take to be licensed to teach. In some states, just not sure where. It is something you should think about, Mary.....I am very serious. I always wanted to teach, so that's what I did, and to be able to teach art and humanities, was just icing on the cake.

Go for it. I am going to soak these weary bones and will be back. Waiting for Shadow...
hugs back...

now that is funny, Tubby! Thank you.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All;

Sharran - My degree was in marketing. But if I did the $300 course I could teach but would take a pay cut. I might consider it though. I'm more interested in a fulfilled life right now than money.....
and Teaching seems to be so fulfilling!

When DH & I married.....DH & DStep Daughters, 1 &2 moved in with "us". (Me & DS). We had the Dog. They brought the Cat. Skittles was a "gift" from "CBM" (Crazy Biological Mom) and had been abused. He would attack at random, and scratch like crazy, not cuddly at all. 1 year later, I bought our new house where we are now, and we moved. In the whole move (3 miles away) we somehow lost Skittles. So put up signs everywhere....So many people responded to the sign, Lost Black Cat, but no Skittles. FInally we found Skittles with a family that lived on a street nearby the old house. We went to pick him up and youngest DSD swore that Skittles said her name (Meow...Raquel...) when we were bringing him home. Weeks after bringing him home, we realized we had a different cat. Skittles became Shadow. Shadow has been a wonderful cat. He loves Indy, he loves his food and he loves me. Sharran your cat reminds me of him... he is a treasure... :)

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Sweet story.
Short lived bath. Jazz kept playing in the water, and I am in no mood to pick him up when he falls in.

Strange about cats, they have long memories. I really believe that, and trust has to be won. Jazz is my buddy, but he also loves Daisy, my tuxedo, so they live happily together. They take turns on my lap, since they don't both fit. They are both tired of all the paint stuff and mess everywere.

I'd love to see a picture of Shadow, too...
and a picture of you..
and Trisha..
and everybody.

Baton Rouge, LA

We will send that soon. :) Hoping to get a computer guy out to look at my home pc and tell me why I can't click on practically anything.......and it come up.

I hate it when my computer is down. Son gave me a new iMac for my birthday (Nov.) and Christmas, it is truly wonderful. So is my son!

We didn't get back from the Swap Meet until almost nine......normally Sage would have perished of starvation but it is visitation night and mom filled her up on Candy:(

Cats are wonderful little fur people.....Heli (we just call her Meowmeow cause that's what she does best) was a feral foundling, the mother had been hit by a car and there were only two surviving kittens when we got them....can't stand to have a dime sized piece of her food dish showing....you don't have to add food, just move it around so the dish doesn't show and she is happy. She will eat a few bites and go about her business.

It has been a long day and I feel like someone has been beating on me....I think it is a short night tonight.

Pretty kitty, Trisha. Funny how they are so picky about their eating habits. She looks a little like my Daisy. Glad you are home safe and sound.
Think it is time for me to crawl into bed. See y'all in the morning.

Here's Daisy.....at my old computer. Thank goodness she prefers it, and doesn't bother my new one.

Daisy is beautiful....I have a thing for black and white cats.

I don't have any ME pictures....I usually only operate from the back of the camera, not in front of it...the best I could come up with is a picture of a picture....and not a great copy...

The Good Husband

Jack wakes up with a huge hangover after attending his company's party. Jack is not normally a drinker, but the drinks didn't taste like alcohol at all. He didn't even remember how he got home from the party. As bad as he was feeling, he wondered if he did something wrong.

Jack had to force himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table. And, next to them, a single red rose!! Jack sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed. He looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotlessly clean. So is the rest of the house

He takes the aspirins, cringes when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom mirror. Then he notices a note hanging on the corner of the mirror written in red with little hearts on it and a kiss mark from his wife in lipstick: "Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to get groceries to make you your favorite dinner tonight. I love you, darling! Love, Jillian"

He stumbles to the kitchen and sure enough, there is hot breakfast, steaming hot coffee and the morning newspaper. His 16 year old son is also at the table, eating. Jack asks, "Son..what happened last night?"

"Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk and out of your mind. You fell over the coffee table and broke it, and then you puked in the hallway, and got that black eye when you ran into the door."

Confused, he asked his son, "So, why is everything in such perfect order and so clean? I have a rose, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me??"

His son replies, "Oh THAT... Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your pants off, you screamed, "Leave me alone b!@*h, I'm married!!"

Broken Coffee Table $239.99

Hot Breakfast $4.20

Two Aspirins $.38

CUTE SAFE I THINK

Subject: A Russian woman

A Russian woman married a Canadian gentleman and they lived happily ever after in Toronto. However, the poor lady was not very proficient in English, but did manage to communicate with her husband. The real problem arose whenever she had to shop for groceries.
One day, she went to the butcher and wanted to buy chicken legs. She didn't know how to put forward her request, and in desperation, clucked like a chicken and lifted up her skirt to show her thighs. Her butcher got the message, and gave her the chicken legs.
Next day she needed to get chicken breasts , again she didn't know how to say it, and so she clucked like a chicken and unbuttoned her blouse to show the butcher her breasts. The butcher understood again, and gave her some chicken breasts.
; On the 3rd day, the poor lady needed to buy sausages. Unable to find a way to communicate this, she brought her husband to the store..

What were you
thinking? Hellooooooo, her husband speaks English!
Now get back to work

I don't know about you sometimes!

Morning, much to do before leaving for work, get my class project and supplies together, having a quilting meeting at 6:00 so quilt top had to be ironed..feed furries you know all those things one must do before starting the day...but it's milder and tomorrow they are calling for perhaps a record breaking day with high temps..will have to covert and let you know just what we might be expecting...oh happy days, but, rain Saturday..good day for me to work on my floormat!

Loved to read you night owl stories, will respond when I get to work, in the meantime I managed a few photo's of my pets this morning..they are all wishing you a 'sunshine' day..

This is Sailor, trying everything to get her outside, old and doesn't like the cold..so each and everytime she goes out I've 2 cooking waiting for her telling her what a wonderful lady she is to go 'pee/pee' outside..more info than you wanted right?

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Riley just in from her walk outside..normally she's out all night and sleeps all day, still not warm enough for her to want to do that, but in coming weeks and weather temps getting higher I won't see her much...

Jeff and the boys thought when I moved in here that I should have a 'kittie' asked me to look after her for them..right, now she's mine...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Missy, she's usually out all day but love to be inside during the night...she's precious..how did I get her, well about 2 years ago someone dropped off several kitties near the restaurant, this little sweetie decided this would be her home..did not want another but, painting girls put a guilt trip on me..she's the loveliest most affectionate cat I've ever come across..could it be because I saved her from the unknown...

As it's still cold, she's enjoying the bench I made the kitties a few weeks ago, sits by the hour looking outside at the oak trees watching the birdies flit from branch to branch and occasional trip to the bird feeder...

They are all fed .. now it's my turn..porridge and fruit and off to start my day...will be a long one, most likely I'll not get home until11:30 or so...it's payday today and I've an hour to kill, just perhaps it will mean a trip to that new garden store Linda was telling me about...lol

Gab when I get to work..

Betty the cut hours started this week. Will be cut even more if the other lady is taken back. We will see what happens in a month or so with that.

Liz I have pretty much missed 2 truck days. It has come in the night before and when I get to work most of it is put away! Except for holiday or promo stuff.

Jude I keep forgetting to tell you. There are days on the drive to work I see an eagle sitting in a tree or flying. Then just the other day on the side of the road is a dead deer. The eagle was sitting by the deer. As I got closer (which was pretty close) He flew off over the river made a circle and back to the deer. That was awesome to see. DH has been seeing a pair of them in a field. He travels in the other direction to work.

Great pictures everyone. Tubby love the jokes. Copied the Hand sanitizer article and took it to work as they either have little kids or grandkids.

Need to go and wash my work clothes and a load of whites.

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

I received an Email that showed an eagle take down a young deer.Bigger than lots of dogs.
Of course a deer can't fight back...But still makes it clear a smaller dog wouldn't stand a chance.
I would like to put it on here.Don't know how..Here is the attachment.we'll see Doubt if will work..It's not highlighted in preview????

Vikki does the length of time you've worked there not come into play? Ontario had major bad news past 2 days..in Hamilton - steel company just bought by USA firm is closing their doors, 2100 out of work, Hamilton is a steel town so not sure what will happen there, then this morning, GM in Windosr shutting down another line and over 1200 affected...my heart just goes out to these people, not like a regular layoff that you can just go in search of another job, there ARE no jobs...

My guess is more and more families will go back to the old way, families living together in order to survive..

Goodness, LeeAnn had her micro furnace on in her office yesterday and it had to be 100, we could hardly breath, she was freezing, when Suzanne arrive around 2 she put furnace on cold...it's a freezer in here this morning, so all micro furnaces are on, we're hoping temps rise before paul and the girls get here..sitting having coffee with my coat on..lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Can't access it 'tubby'...I'm sure they are powerful..last year at the Big Chut marine railway, there were Eagles, not normally known in our area I don't think, but perhaps they were.. this morning when leaving you could hear the birds no not chipping but cawing, guess it was blackbirds but you know, even that sound reminds me that spring is around the corner...made homemade bread last Sunday, had 1 slice so threw it out for the birdies to munch on..I'm sure after the long winter they need feeding..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Betty. How was your drive to work today?
Tubby love the jokes, and makes me smile!

LindaKay, is was enjoyable, didn't even do the speed limit as I just took time to enjoy the scenery, the changes happening...they are calling for 50 & sunshine tomorrow, rain and 40 Sat. but then Sunday it's 53 with rain..not fond of that, know it will melt everything but will also create flooding around my house...

Feel bad for the children, Greg and Mel have a resort booked for next weekend..travel by snowmachine, enjoy skiing, tubing etc. but with rain that will all but do the plans in...

What have you planned for today, anything exciting..if it weren't that I'm taking an extra day off with Stacey and then in April taking 2 or 3 days off to take the boys to Washington I'd take tomorrow off and enjoy 1st signs of spring...not to be...

Good morning!!

Well, isn't it sweet to see all the fur babies.
Shar, can't believe how big jazz hass gotten, love the "supervisoring" from the top of the ladder.

Hiya Ves, Wow, isn't it neat to watch the Eagles. I am glad you have seen him. I am betting he lives close by too.
Oh my gosh, nothing like watching em fly across a field.

Betty and everyone, Today, i am going for an orientaion session. This is for that outsourceing. I am excited and who knows maybe i will run in to some co-workers.

I am also excited to say it's going to be in the 50's here today!! Oh yes, yes Spring is definately in the air.
Jake is off school today and tomorrow so will find some cool stuff for us to do. He is still grounded so maybe we'll just hang out and play cards.

Well, Yesterday i did get outside picked up here and there and just enjoyed the sun and fresh air. Must be what i needed, as my mood is much better today.

Ok, well i have to get ready to go to orientaion...I should be back this afternoon.
Enjoy the morning.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good luck Judy at orientation...now tell me Judy, when you are grounded are you suppose to be enjoying fun things like playing cards with mom..are you not suppose to be doing something un-interesting things like homework or chores to make his decision making at school reflect the punishment he gets...too cute!

Morning!!

Betty-don't forget some time off in May for TX!!

Shar-loved the pic of your kitty on the ladder-mine lays on my L arm as I sit here most mornings!!LOL

Trisha-we came by Jade kinda the same way-we weren't looking for a kitty, but my boss brought them to work one day (her and her sis) after finding them and their dead mama, and I just had to take her home-soooo adorable!!! She was too small really-her tail looked like a rat tail with hardly any hair on it-the Dr thought she was 6-7 weeks old-when I first brought her home, Ruby my pug thought she was a toy until Jade smacked her!!LOL

Love the kitty pics!!

Mary-so was it Skittles who had changed or was it actually a totally different cat??
