Betty-are you OK??
Best/Worse/What did I learnt today...visit with friends #87
{{Laura}} You just stay right here with us and we'll keep your spirits up!!
just checking in for a quick hello!
No Betty, I havent been doing ANY work at all, not in the house or in the garden :o( I log in here and sometimes get a little overwhelmed and depressed at what you all accomplish in one day! I'm still not feeling well, and its bad when I dont have enerygy to do anything! I did start a painting tonight...so maybe I'll post a pix once I get it completed (unless it winds up as one of those 'to be finished later' projects in the closet! lol)
still waiting for doc to call with test results...so I figure since its been this long, it cant be too bad! lol!
Hugs to all!
AnjL
Hello To All;
Laura - After / During the Katrina crises...I remember feeling similar. I couldn't bear to make it to work, just seemed so superficial to do what I do on a daily basis. I remember driving around with supplies to donate... reading overwhelming stories where I was unable to help. Trying to help our "own" evacuee's. I felt numb, and the days all blended in together. Then Rita hit, and it all happened again...albeit on a smaller scale. Perhaps this is post traumatic stress....Mom had passed away the year before so I couldn't ask her...she would have known what it was and would have given me advice that I could have now passed along to you. I guess it's good to connect with others in any way that you can...online...a hug...a donation...a shoulder...to vent.... We are all connected to each other and in that way I think you will find comfort. I wish I had better words of wisdom for you but this is the best I can do at the moment. I hope you find strength in those stories of giving...they gave me strength and hope at that time as well.
Hugs from Baton Rouge,
Mary
awww thanks thats lovely.
the fabric is gorgeous!!!!!!
Hugs Laura and Mary....a bit of a bad week here....too many things going on and short on meds right now. But will muddle through, I always do. It is always good to know we have this place to come to and friends who understand.
Betty, don't know what is going on for you right now but sending you a big hug also....take care.
Betty, I hope you post soon. Hope your not under the weather! Hugs and prayers for you and family.
LK
Betty we miss you....Can you tell..Hope all's well
Tubby
Yeah Betty-you can tell Terry is forlorn w/o you-he isn't even telling his usual jokes-plus I would really like your feedback on materials...
Betty, hope all is well with you... I just scrolled back thru the thread to see if I missed something.... but cant find anything! Still praying for your brother...
also, I have a question for you (or anyone who know the answer!).... when painting with acrylics do you start light colors first, then dark colors last? or is it the opposite? I usually use oil paints and its always darkest colors first...but with these acrylics...well, I keep forgetting you cant really 'stack' the colors like I do with oils! lol!
Told you all not to worry, tried posting a few words..
I haven't had a migraine that put me to bed like the one I had yesterday, OMG couldn't even lift my head without vomiting..this morning I still have a bit of the halo, walking slow, took more meds...now I could have gone and gotten my shot and be out for a few days but didn't want to tackle the emergency room..nothing more I think than worrying about Bernie..today is pre-trial..sure hope the insurance sees that if it goes to trial there might be a larger sum of money involved...
Thought if I got up extra early, moved around slowly I'd get through the day...Noah called last night, today is his birthday and he wanted to invite me to his party tonight..I didn't answer any calls so best I call him this morning, he'll be 11...awesome age, growing yet still not a teen...
Laura, know it was hard for you to open up here as many of our older thread friends post from time to time and you felt lost..now look at all these angels you have to wrap you in the arms of their warmth and love....stay with us, no going back into the darkness..you are loved my girl...
Trisha I'm sure you are doing much too much..you always do..
Stacey love the colors..looks as though a 'watercolor' quilt would be in order..they just have that feel to them...
Tubby, you say you DW is also 'fluffy' aren't we the best..
always say... 'ewe's not fat ewe's just fluffy' lol..need a joke to get me through the day!
AnnMarie, still praying all is well, but it does seem to be a good sign the doctor's office not calling..now what are you painting...
Your question about acrylics.. depends on which technique, but I normally 'base' what I'm painting and then add highlights (lightest color) and also shade (darkest colors) to add depth...need to see what you have so far...is it stroke work you are doing? if it is sometimes you can add multi colors on you brush without mudding them and making the stroke...by mudding I mean that you wouldn't work 1 color into the other...
Would love to help..be sitting quiet at the office today if I go in..please post photo..How's your son doing?
Oh Mary, heart goes out to you as well..always nice to have a 'mom' for support now isn't it? Rough time your area went through..all prayed as well...
Crissy, how are you feeling today? will you be attempting going into work...you should be spending several days in bed or it will linger..Suzanne was off an entire week and still this week not feeling her best..
Shar and Linda Kay, thanks for checking up on me...
Liz how are you feeling? Sinus better? It's that time of year isn't it..just think, another month and we'll all be up and running, sunshine has a way of doing that...
Judy, where are you girl..out working with Steve..drats, not leaving you time for playing is it..
Carol, are you still going to 'square dancing'..you know I sure miss dancing..probably the thing I most enjoyed..should really join a ballroom dancing class instead of painting class then I might make it to 'so you think you can dance' must be feeling tad better, here I am joking around..
Carol from painting called left message to say my woodpiece is ready for pick up..will have to call her today..she didn't call me to ask how high I wanted this side table..guess I have to take it regardless...
Talk later..
Morning all,
Betty...Glad to hear that you are a wee bit better. That migraine sounds just horrid. Sure hope things go well for your brother Bernie today.
The Square dancing class was just 8 sessions and is over now.
Sheila and I just go swimming twice a week.
These are some early irises..not sure of their name.
Betty glad your felling better.Stress will do that.!!! My oldest DD Sheree had a time with Migrianes when she was in nursing school..Lot a pressure Trying to be on top.!!!
Advice is easy to give, not always easy to do.but here goes.
Worry about the things we have the power to change.
Not the stuff we have no power over.!!!!!!!!!!

Wally's Wedding Night
At 78 years of age, Wally married Anne, a lovely 25 year old.
Since her new husband is so old, Anne decides that after their wedding she and Wally should have separate bedrooms, because she is concerned that her new but aged husband may overexert himself if they spend the entire night together.
After the wedding festivities Anne prepares herself for bed and the expected 'knock' on the door.
Sure enough the knock comes, the door opens and there is Wally, her 78 year old groom, ready for action.
They unite as one.
All goes well, Wally takes leave of his bride, and she prepares to go to sleep.
After a few minutes, Anne hears another knock on her bedroom door, and it's Wally.
Again he is ready for more 'action.'
Somewhat surprised, Anne consents for more coupling.
When the newlyweds are done, Wally kisses his bride, bids her a fond goodnight and leaves.
She is set to go to sleep again, but, aha you guessed it..... Wally is back again, rapping on the door, and is as fresh as a 25-year-old, ready for more 'action.'
And, once again they enjoy each other.
But as Wally gets set to leave again, his young bride says to him, 'I am thoroughly impressed that at your age you can perform so well and so often. I have been with guys less than a third of your age who were only good once. You are truly a great lover, Wally.'
Wally, somewhat embarrassed, turns to Anne and says, 'You mean I was here already?'
The moral of the story:
Don't be afraid of getting old, senior moments have advantages.
Remember, if you haven't got a smile on your face and laughter in your heart, then you are just a sour old fart!
Wisdom from Grandpa--
It is hard to understand how a cemetery raised its burial rates and blamed it on the cost of living?
I just read an article on the dangers of heavy drinking...
Scared the crap out of me. So that's it!
After New Years, no more reading.
I know I'm on a roll This one is tooooooo funny LOL
The Iams Diet
Don't ask a retiree a dumb question ...
The next time someone asks you a dumb question wouldn't you like to respond like this?
Yesterday I was at my local Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Iams Dog Food for my loyal pet, Abby, the Wonder Dog and was in the checkout line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog.
What did she think I had, an elephant? So since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the "Iams Diet" again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.
I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Iams nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.)
Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's ass and a car hit us both.
I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack, he was laughing so hard. Wal-Mart won't let me shop there anymore. Better watch what you ask retired people. They have all the time in the world to think of crazy things to say.
Good deal Betty Glad you fell like going to work..Drive careful
Good morning Betty. So glad to hear you are a little better than yesterday. We all knew something was wrong when you did not post anything.
Sending prayers for you and your family! And some big (((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))) too!
Please take care.
Tubby, those jokes are so funny.
Thanks
LK
Betty, happy to hear you are better.
Tubby, LOL at your jokes.
Just called Bernie/Charlene to ask what time they would be going to lawyers office? Said they got a call from lawyers office yesterday to say they would not themselves be meeting with the insurance company's lawyer..Their lawyer decided to do the discovery between he and their lawyer..not sure why..so still praying that something will come of it today..
Called Greg's this morning and Noah answered, asked if I was coming for supper tonight..having finger foods and taco's..quite excited, his brother gave him a massager in shape of a football and also a bank that registers how much money is inside..now you'd have to know Noah, if you give him $1.00 he'll have it spent as you are handing it over...saying that, he told me he still has the $50.00 that I gave him Friday to buy himself a birthday present...what he doesn't know is I have another gift, a soccer ball you kick on the streets, not sure what it does, but it's an electronic type game... will be fun tonight...
Suzanne cancelle dher dentist appt. this afternoon..drove me into work, so although fuzzy in the head, not much different than any other day..lol..I'll just sit quietly..OMG even Paul is talking softly..
Morning Liz, how is the weather in those N.C. mountains?
Oh Betty-I was so worried-if you didn't appear today, I was calling, if you didn't answer, I was a comin to make sure you were alive!! I had a dream last night-don't remember what it was, but when I woke, my first thought was you....I have weird dreams sometimes-when DH's aunt died, I had a dream that night that I was sitting in a cafe talking to her and she was telling me that she would be alright, but was worried about her DH Charlie-that she wanted to make sure he was OK and that one of her kids took care of him-the oddest dream, but when I woke that next morning I could remember it clearly and it gave me a great sense of peace....
I am so glad you like my colors!!:)Mom wants me to come see her this weekend-MSU is having an orchid show-might go up on Sat am and stay the night-then after the show I can work on the quilt some.....need to see what the weather will be. I will be hoping that the insurance company somehow grows a conscience and helps Bernie out....
AnnMarie-I am sure that since there seems to be no rush by your Dr. that he isn't too concerned about the tests...
Laura the Aussie-I can't even imagine the things you are seeing in the news-and then some bad things on the home front-I do hope that you let us absorb some of this for you-that is after all what friends are for-to free you from some of the emotional burden you carry when it becomes too heavy for your heart.....
Terry-so glad you are back to normal too:) I have read the Iams one B4 and loved it both times-also liked the marriage one!!LOL When I was a server for THe Cheesecake Factory, we dressed in all white-long sleeve button down, pants, shoes, long bistro apron, and a tie. People used to ask me a couple of dumb questions ALL the time!! One was "do you work here"-to which I started replying, "no, I just figured since I was coming here to eat, I would dress to blend in" or "no, this was all I had clean though". People also asked "do you have a restroom" (and if you have never been to this restaurant, they have marble tabletops, brazillian wood, and hand painted murals on the ceilings-very beautiful!!), and after a few times, I started answering "no, we ask guests to leave before that becomes necessary" or "no, people usually just go out in the bushes".....and the 3rd "here's your sign" question "do you know where the restroom is" to which I just started answering "no" and walking away...I know these all sound mean, but come on people, really??
Betty-looks like the kitties finally discovered what a wonderful mama they have that made a bench just for them:)
OMG Tubby! I am laughing my butt off with the Iams Diet one!!
I forgot to add: 4004 - beautiful fabrics!!
Well, I have finally finished all but one of my quilting projects that I started well over a year ago. I put the last stitch in the binding and threw that baby in the washer and that's all she wrote! I have one last wall hanging to do then I'll need to start on the stuff I bought at LAST year's quilt show! I will try to remember to take pictures tonight so y'all can see. I plan on giving one of the quilts to my friend Darcy who is fighting cancer. I figured it could keep her warm on those days she has to go get chemo.
Well, I'll chat later.

Gardengirl-thanks-it was me with the fabrics though-my first quilt:) SOOOOO excited!!
Jeannine, I'm sure the love put into every stitch will make Darcy feel comforted .. must go to her thread and send a prayer...anxious to see your projects...
Last year when I wasn't well for a few days wasn't it Judy who was able to find out who my neighbors were via some type of program and she was going to call and find out what happened to me?
Speaking of Judy where is she..unusual that she's not around either..
Liz, showing the girls my necklace and bracelet here at the office, can't believe anyone would spend that much time making me something..lol all loved it..what a treasure, my Chicago memories..
Hi Betty,
Was so sorry to hear you had a migrane!!
Goodness good thing it was too late when I read that, was thinking to call.
However, I am glad to hear that you are better...and going to work.
Hahah, I am sorry to laugh that you don't know what a soccar ball is! lol, I guess if it isn't a tool, you have to do some research huh?
just teasing you, you know...OMG, I am excited that some kids want to play physical games anymore.
Hi Vicki, Well, We awoke to about 3.5 inches of snow, lol after it was all done I think it was about 6in. Man it really set me behind.
...Had a bit of disturbing comotion here. Seems my son has had an ingrown toenail he decided to doctor himself up! So, I get on the phone trying to get a doc appointment...We missed the walk in times and the doc has no openings. This is very frustrating!!
Meantime Steve had gone to emergency because of a finger he thinks he broke!! Well come to find out we have no insurance at the moment. Now I am wrried an frantic so decided I am the best doctor ma in our house...advise and instruct son to scrub the daylights out of toe, He has removed what was stuck, (yuck) then we peroxided the toe. WE are cleaning it daily and it does look much better.
DH, finger is not broken. Today he can at least bend it, they think it is some sort of tendonites. (Hello, they think!!) So not suppose to use it. uhhh, yeah right, thats like telling a mosquito not to suck blood....Well, that is why I have been MIA.
Now I have to wait word on the insurance and reschedual all the doc appts. What is really got me mad is we were suppose to get the last shot for the ovarian cancer prevention for my daughter and they have not returned my call.
Enough of that commotion, thanks for listening.
Ves, Also, I had Cedric the froggie visiting me this week! In case you don't know about him, he has been traveling around Daves Garden...visiting members....LOL, I had a grand time with him. My kids had fun watching me, ...Sabrina said she was going to get one of those dolls to play with....ROFLOL, I asked DH for a dog but, he says no go! But even he got into the fun of playing, You remember when we had Alexander the baby egghead? heheh, we had just as much fun with Cedric. And Betty, ROFLOL, did get him to place hands on hip...
Other then that I have been cleaning, sewing and visiting hear and there... Trying to learn how to quilt.
Now its getting nice again so I will resume my walks...Oh I can't wait to watch Spring come alive!
Stacey, I love the material you have chosen. Isn't it fun to search materials? LOL, for me overwhelming unless I know exaclty what I want to buy, for what. Hope you had lots of fun though.
Speaking of which, Yes Betty, I did notice that it was of"cheater" quilt! very cool. LOL, and I did notice that it is very wide...Thank you, So am I suppose to sew on the cheaters seams, sounds about right. It will make a great summer blanket for here or cottage!
Got some good news too...My lil sister is going back to university!! She is continuing with her dream in culinary field...She is a chef, now she is going for the management part...It is so nice to hear her excitment for life!
Speaking of which, as you know, lol or not...I have been taking on the cooking, made the most scrumptious chicken pot pies last night. I have outdid myself!! Yikes, now he wants steak for dinner...Better call the best restraunt to go!
Liz, hahah, saw your text to Jacob, too funny...holding lemmons hostages! geeze that kid wore my battery out.
WONDERHUG, Hey girl, so glad to see you post. Prayers continue for strength. Good to see you got time with Granddaughter.
Tubby, Jokes are too funny...thanks for smiles.
Cool, did I read somewhere Laura got a house? Alright for you!!
OK, I have got to get moving, been typing forever...need to make a few calls and appointments.
Trish, just wanted to say, wow...you are doing great with the clay, yikes right now I am just lurking over there...and haing fun too.
and....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO NOAH!!
ENJOY YOUR 11TH. BETTY'S LIL MAN.
See you all in a bit.
good morning,
betty, so glad your better, yes judy does have cliff and bernice's number so we can track you down lol.
im on antibiotics so by tomorrow i should start feeling better,
i think the kitties are enjoying their bench now, oh glad everyone is enjoying the bottlecaps
im still plugging away was stressing yesterday mail man came and no charms but after his route was finished he came back and delivered them :) all put away no evidence of any kind hanging around lol, not that i need to hide them but sometimes we just have to hide things we buy he he he..
went to joanns yesterday and got a pair of those rag quilt sissors now when will i get to do that? oh well one day ,well off to get ready for work.
laura, big hugs to you! and you'll be smiling soon :)
stacy i like the material you got, will be a work of art.
jeannine look foward to seeing your finished peice.
tubby lol omg too funny

crissy how are you feeling?
hello to everyone else got to go
have a great day
lol crossed with you judy, omg only jake lol
ya he tried to trick me but i caught on how quick the text came back then when i said is that you jake, lol i could see the look of getting caught,
im catching on, glad all good on homefrount now congrads to sister.
betty have a great time with noah happy bday to him
LOL...Yes it was I who searched and found Bernice.
Well, between Shar and I...
(Yepp, shar I am not taking the wrap myself...lol.)
Does no good to worry me, ROFLOL, call the police on hubby, and I am not afraid to call neighbors
if i am worried.
You know cuz WE love you.
Liz thought you were feeling better! you ok?
Liz, did tell Bernice and Cliff that if any crazy ladies call do come and check up on me, something might be amiss...those rag quilt scissors Liz really do help, was using my regular scissors on the 3 quilts I did and I've the blisters to prove it..apparently they have an easier mechanism..lol at you hidding charms, my goodness how many did you buy that DH would notice????
Judy, I thought when you were off work for a good part of the year your benefits would continue? What happened..best you not be doctoring infection..lordy/lordy you'd not want infection to spread...
Laughing at your cooking, steak even..don't cook without burning something from time to time or Steve will expect you to make all the meals..
Laughed at Greg on Saturday night when he brought Noah and his friend over..he asked them (knowing full well - was a hint to grandma) 'did you boys eat before coming over? I said not to worry, restaurant right next door..I added 'did Noah tell you Jeremy that I don't cook?...Noah smiled and Greg piped in..'Jeremy, she can cook when she wants to it's just more convenient for her not to' so glad he took my side, different story when he and his brother get together and start the teasing..only mom they know who can burn water..yep..turn stove on and decide to either go gardening or shopping..how my house is still standing I'll never know
Now what did Steve to do his finger??? a hammer perhaps..
Judy rather than undertaking such a big task for the cheater quilt..should fit up to a king size I believe...why not tie it with embroidery floss..easier and you can put 2 layers of betting and that way when tied you get the nice 'puffy' look..
Happy Birthday Noah!!
I'm ok, not feeling like doing anything but started taking my Advair yesterday and OMG you would not believe the crap I'm coughing up! My voice is gone and I have a headache and am dizzy, but the fever is gone so that helps big time.
Love the fabric Stacey!
Betty, my co-worker had a migraine real bad yesterday with the throwing up and all, wonder if that's another bug??
JUDY-have him soak his foot in epson salts-best thing for it-I used to get them all the time as a kid and Gma said to do that-ALWAYS worked:) Helped to ease out any infection and took care of the pain
Has anyone heard from Jesse? Hi all HUGS BEV
lizrainey I would consider taking a bribe.LOL
Quote"not that i need to hide them but sometimes we just have to hide things we buy he he he." LOL
What are rag quilt scissors??????????
Tubby, wonder how much is hidden in her home, perhaps a bride in exchange for fresh fruit? hmmm she'll have to send it all to you, can't cross the border but that's ok..I like to share..
Crissy you didn't go to work like that did you? suppose to stay in bed...
everyone here today is working on projects, doors shut, Paul left for the city so it's quiet/quiet...headache is starting to ease...pancake day today Shrove Tuesday, best we look for a pancake place for lunch..
Bev no I haven't..my fault, I get so overwhelmed not knowing how to help, what to do????? Must make another call..
lo tubby, no all is nice and quiet here so what he dosnt know wont hurt him he he he
betty, i bought 100 this time lol omg i'll be able to build a boat with them soon!
thinking of going to tap plastics and having them cut me out a couple of squares out of thicker plastic then i wont worry about cutting up quilt templates, ya those sissors lol those are already hanging on the wall, hmmmm had them there for years got to practice my speech for when he notices them.
you are too funny Liz...I'm sure he notices a lot more hanging around than you give him credit for...a lot of my patterns have been cut from heavy guage plastic for both quilting and stained glass..last forever.
Tracey they are a smaller type scissor, blades or short and also many have a spring loaded type mechanism so that the blades open more easily thus needing less strength.. Joanne's is sure to have them..or save your $$$, remember I 'm a member at Fabricland, lot's of time they are 30 to 50% off and then think about the exchange rate..goodness if i keep finding these bargoons they won't cost you anything..lol
