Here's some Daffs with buds showing.....So early!!! I hope they make it!
Anyone else see spring peeking...
Remember all the naked ladies I dug up and gave you all????
I kept 3 pots for myself......still have to find a place i could plant them.....:o(
That may be an issue--as they do take up a lot of room. However--they all bloomed, last fall, in these same pots. I know there are at least 3-4 good-sized bulbs in each one....
Now--they are in their second season in these pots and starting to grow.....
If all else fails--I will plant them in my neighbor's bed (NOT the one I dug them all out of!) that face my house. They never walk far enough around the house to pay attention to this bed--but it runs the width of their house, gets full sun most of the day and doesn't really have much of anything in it, except a large Rhodo and a beautiful Hydrangia at one end. I can plant anything i want in there--I know it! They love it!
Last year, I planted my clump of Elephant Ears in there. Hope they survived--as my neighbors never dug them up nor mulched them....I guess it was up to me--but I did not either.....He is not motivated---and She is forever in pain, from something or other, and now is still recovering from back surgery. She is also quite overweight and cannot/does not want to deal with gardening.....I love her dearly--but I am not too patient with her planting all kinds of veggies and Peppers, and Potatoes and Tomatoes every year--and then never bothering to water them or care for them.....
Our homes here are almost side-by-side--so I get frustrated......
Every year--they go to Spain (that's where they are from) for 6 weeks and leave everything for me--and the other side neighbor--to care for, and I do it willingly and lovingly--in addition to my own garden.
Then they come home---everything is nicely cared for and green and growing--and so I (we) stop the caring and watering--and they never continue it. It is like a slap in the face.....as I watch everything wither and die.....
Well--at least I get to pick all the yummy Figs I want from their huge Fig Tree and eat them.....if I can beat the ants and the yellow jackets and the birds to them.....
Geez! This really got me on a "roll".......Have to contain myself.....
So--here are the pots of the naked ladies starting with their foliage growth.
I have these pots sitting on the stumps of the Birch tree I had cut down last fall......
This is ane one I got a couple of years ago. It will be a deep purple one--I think.....
I got this from a DG member---she called it "........Lady" (crimson???).....
It looks just like the one i already have on the other side of my Bird bath (from the green one)....
I have another new one I got--but it hasn't showed anything yet.
edited to say--a deep PINK one.....NOT Purple.

If you remember my hunt for the oriental Regale Lily last year--the one I fell in love with in Latvia???? Well--they are not up yet---but to fulfill the minimum shipping amount of $35--I had to choose some other things to order.
SO--I ordered some "Species Tulips". They are small and very colorful. I so look forward to seeing them bloom!
Here they are--coming up!
Hey Gita, I take it back. Your naked ladies look like my so-called Daffs and I have decided they are naked ladies because I had them last year.
Buttoneer----
The difference is--I think---that the leaves of the Naked Ladies have rounded tips.....AND--there will be NO flower-buds all through the Spring....The leaves will die off--and disappear....Then there is nothing......until August, or so. These bare stems will come up and produce the awesome flowers.....
Daffodil's leaves are pointed from the beginning...and then send up flower buds--which will bloom in a short time.
Well, these look like your naked ladies so we both have naked ladies dancing around in our yards. Thank Heavens, we are back a lane & not on the road. LOLOL
LOL! One of my all time favorite DG thread titles was "Naked Ladies by the Pool."
Pretty.
I like the color of the hellebores
I couldn't resist after seeing everyone else's "signs of spring". Took my first walk around the gardens last night - sorry, I was too anxious to get out there and didn't grab the camera! Lots of disappointments - things that looked like they had croaked because of the severe lows we had this winter but Snowdrops in bloom perked me up! Some of the foliage on the Hellebores is disgusting, so much for "evergreen" foliage, but most of them are blooming regardless! Daffodils are budding up and when I dug down through the dead foliage of the Peonies found short nubs already poking up through! Yay, spring IS here :)
rcn,
Those "disgusting" leaves on the Hellebores can be cut off. Just be careful--as there might be new leaves closer tot he ground already....
They are not meant to last 2 years.
When the flowers are fully open, the Hellebore will start growing a new set of fresh leaves.
Does that make you feel better???
Gita
Are these species crocus? They are quite charming: See below:
http://www.vanengelen.com/catview.cgi?_fn=Product&_category=Crocus
The crocuses in the second picture I posted actually came from VanEngelen, they were plain old Crocus tommasinianus. I'm not sure about the others, but they were called "species crocus" where I got them .
My crocuses, windflowers, reticulated irises are all blooming! Daffodils, hyacinths and trout lilies are all coming up. Irises are beginning to grow. Snow storm with 6" last week and here we are in the 70's yesterday and todat!!
debc
Oh reticulated irises, I have tried a couple of these but they didn't do well. I think maybe too wet must look for a better place to plant them. There was a beautiful display of them at the Phila Flower Show but somehow I didn't get pictures of them.
Wowzers between the snow (Mother Nature's bestest watering can) and this warmth the last couple of days EVERYTHING seems to have expedited their awakening. Daffy are up WITH buds even...the hyacinths are close behind...bright green leaves popping up on Lilac - yes I believe the toddler daphne's got buds - the Viburnum's got leaves...yipee - wasn't sure how he was doing so of course I find this exciting. I added a few outdoor jasmines last year via trades and such...looking forward to seeing how they did as well as the 'Mystery' (which is truly as she never bloomed) which is not hardy to 7A (yes, I'm workin' that micro-climate out front)
I got Bammed with Crocus tomms today too--dozens of blooms when I barely saw leaves. Then I was working near another bed and suddenly --actually gasped--to see two bright little Iris (danford?) a foot from my face. how did I walk around for hours before noticing? well ok they are just three inches tall...
BAM!!! is right! Walked out the door yesterday morning and was greeted with Daffodils in bloom - what the heck, they weren't there yesterday! LOL Also discovered the White Forsythia in bloom - now all I have to do is take the time to get pictures to share :) Oh Chantell...the White Forsythia is fragrant!
wind those wallflower babies are cute..I got a plant last year and am trying to root a couple of stems by the brick method. (on top) The plant stayed evergreen a nice blue green shade and like the foliage. Hope I can root more.
My bloody dock was bloody awful and I didn't notice any remnants yesterday. Gotta start more jugs today. gotta, gotta...everything.
White Forsythia...fragrant? Hmmmm...so what does it smell like????
Wind - thanks for the reminder...gotta get those wallflowers started...ugh
I would love to get my hands on some white forsythia, can you buy it from a nursery the same as the yellow? Is it something that grows wild in your area. We have the most beautiful Mt. Laurel in NJ. I had some in my yard at my other farm. I had a fenced in yard for the dog just behind the house and in one corner was about 5 bushes of Mt. Laurel and it was a picture. No one planted it there, it was wild. I love natural settings, I think they are so much prettier than man made.
JB, My daughter has a Mt. Laurel. When they first got their house she asked me what the scraggly looking bush was at the corner of her house, she was thinking of removing it. When I told her it was a Mt. Laurel she changed her mind. Hers isn't very large yet probably a small transplant when it was put there.
JB - this is what plantfiles is showing for vendors carrying it: http://davesgarden.com/products/ps/go/1529/
Debbie - do ya'll sell it? I didn't see it on your site - but thought I'd ask any-who... ^_^
Closeup of Winter Aconite. This plant reseeds itself wonderfully. I even help it & scatter the seeds so I get a colony going. I have seen mine blooming under the snow (when you remove the snow) in February and this year it is a little late, but I would prefer to see it blooming now when you can actually see it blooming. I read up on these & they like partial shade, moisture and drainage. Mine gets afternoon sun. When the seeds are ripe, you can put them inside a moist paper towel & put in refrig, but it is easier to just resow into your moist soil & they will come up.
