Anyone else see spring peeking...

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

Buttoneer, I'm glad you posted the aconite photos. My friend just told me hers were blooming and I had never heard of them before.

Sally, what do you mean your bloody dock was bloody awful? Didn't it grow or did you literally eat some and not like it?

I've been wanting to get some native Mountain Laurel and it is impossible to find. All our garden centers carry the hybrids :(

Buttoneer, I'm pretty sure your last picture is Hyacinths, and such a nice group you have there, they will smell wonderful. Don't forget a picture when they bloom.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Buttoneer, I'm not familiar with the Winter Aconite either, very pretty. Spring has sprung at my house Crocus are blooming and bulbs are coming up everywhere. There is new growth on one of my Hellebores.

Chantell, Do you think it's time for a new thread?
A little closer.

Wind, I have about 35 acres of woodland and native mountain laurel is everywhere. If you are ever down this way or can think of another way to get it to you, you are more than welcome to try transplanting some of it. Some years it blooms heavily and other years blooms are sporatic. The ridge is a spectacular site when in full bloom. This picture is off thread topic because it was taken several years ago and not what I see peeking yet this year - maybe in May!

My bloody dock did not grow well. I didn't have enough to wonder if it was edible. But it survived, I found it today. Bet it needs more sun.
Those aconites are pretty. First I've seen too. But moist AND drainage? my moist place is Because o f the lack of drainage, I fear.

Quoting:
so what does it smell like????

LOL, I honestly don't remember, I'll have to give it a whiff and let you know, either that or I'll have to ask Chloe to give us her take on it :) Don't sell it, used to have the pink version http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/75064/ but, don't kick me...I think we threw them all out because no one wanted them :( The only thing I don't like about the White Forsythia is the suckering - maybe I'll be able to dig a piece and see if I'm successful rooting it for ya :)

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

I think the Mountain Lauel is protected in New Jersey. I tried to transplant it at my plae and it did not work. Guess it protects itself. LOL

I will check out the links for the white forsythia. Thanks.

My scented geraniums are being shipped. Yahoo.!

I read somewhere that mountain laurel doesn't transplant well. But then I heard that about redbud once and KNOW that they can be very tough!! So, don't always bank on what I hear...

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Maybe someone else would have a better pic to start a new thread? I don't have enough flowering yet to get something really pretty. But new growth on my Helebore is peeking.

!? THREW OUT PLANTS ?! - *deep breath - inhale - exhale* I SO would not be good as a nursery or kennel owner...I'd keep all the plants and pups...would be that lady they talk about on Animal Cops - except mine would be taken care of - I'd just be broke (er)...ROTFLOL
Ooooo - rooting piece would be peachy!! Want some jasmines for your tropical area?

Chantell!! Stand back everybody!! Give her air!!

Ok...found a brown bag to breathe into...I'm good now....LOL
Yepper...the big'uns that get too big...go up on the hill...sure the neighbors appreciate (NOT) my landscaping ability - or lack thereof. Had one a few years back say - "What are YOU doing?!" I smiled sweetly and said "Do YOU see this erosion going on - on this hill? Pretty soon these trees will be in our kitchens. Clearly I'm trying to stop that my planting these agaves along here." He didn't say a word...LOL

Oh good...I knew that confession would bring a reaction - glad you found a brown bag! LOL Honestly, there is no one more anal than me when it comes time to toss something :( And believe me most of the time I don't even know they're gone until they're gone - RICK!!!! He tells me he took them to "compost heaven"! I am constantly hiding things so I can save the poor babies and have a chance to stick at least one in the gardens but sometimes he's just too fast for me!

Just a thought - I wonder if the Mountain Laurel don't transplant well because they're shallow rooted and dry out too fast? I've heard that native Azaleas are difficult to move from their native habitat as well and I know they're shallow rooted.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I have also hear that Mountain Laurel is hard to transplant. Out woods around here have many of them....

Holly--What kind of a picture would you like to start your new Thread?????

I have some nice ones from Longwood gardens last year.....Lots of pretties.....

Let me know--and I will post one.

Of course, this being YOUR Thread--the picture should be from your garden. I am sure you have some from years past...if not from this Spring.....

How about this one.....

Gita, Not my thread Chantells, I just thought this one was getting a bit long and asked if she wanted to start a new thread. She didn't have a good spring pic and told me to go ahead but I don't have a good spring pic yet either. My spring plants are just starting to peek, thought maybe someone a bit more southern might have some nice pictures of their spring bulbs or flowering tree branches. You certainly have some beautiful pictures there.

LOL - it's a Mid Atlantic thread...not mine...ya'll are too cute!!
