What do you do for fun when you're not gardening?

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Thanks for this thread Polly. I pulled out the mosaic materials, brushed off the dust and made my first stepping stone.

Louise!!!! Make 10 more right away. I can't believe you did that, and so quickly. I love it!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

LOVE IT!!!
I see a new career in your future, and we'll all be your best customers!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Thank you! I'll fess up, it was the second one. The first one was a burp!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

My first husband was a burp, too!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

LOL!

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Burps can originate out of many 'ends..' but a burp by any other name is still........... a burp!

Great mosaic -

Re: Twilight... on Etsy.... if you search twilight.... there are these neat resin lockets with EDWARD's name and passages from the book and 'blood'!! I guess Twilight is here to stay for a while.

Great stepping stone, Venu...
I just took another tour of my yard, the one with storm debris all over, stepping stones broken, a sliced in two birdbath....
Then I gave up and came inside......and here you are with such a beauty. Maybe it will inspire me. Thanks.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Wonderful stepping stone, Louise. We should all chip in with ideas for your future works.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Burps are like bad weather. You need some so the great weather can truly be appreciated!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

True!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Wonderful stepping stone, Louise. It would fit right in with some of my iris colors, LOL. More, more!

I looked at Etsy, my gosh, what a bunch of stuff for Twilight. I kind of liked the idea of sending your picture to them and having them make it look like a vampire.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Thanks again! I just drew two more patterns ( 1 being a certain flower that captivates us) and realized I needed many more tiles. Went shopping and spent almost as much as I spend on a plant order!

I think Twilight will be my next read.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Twilight makes me think of the sun, stars and moon - there's three more stepping stones for you, Louise!

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I think you should do cats and dogs ... and maybe a hedgehog.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I plan on doing dogs and cats, but the hedgehog intrigues me. By the way Zuzu, could you dmail me your favorite kitty pic?

There's also the four seasons.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I just remembered a critter we saw on Prince Edward Island. If I can locate the photo I'll post it.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Stupid photo program won't let me post it.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

D-mail coming your way, Louise.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Good grief! I think I can finally post the photo.

Hurray! It worked.

I think it's having a "bad hair day " !
Is that what hedge hogs look like ?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I couldn't figure it out but thought he was cute. Or should it have been named Rosie with that "sweet" face? Could it be a wild pig?

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Oh, I love that pig. I love animal art in gardens.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I collect pigs...or used to. Once people knew of it I found myself mired in pigs so now I just collect plants.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

And now you're mired in plants.

Cute pig!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

True. I'm piggy at times.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I bought a cute wooden rooster years ago. One rooster is all I really needed, but everyone started giving me roosters for my birthday and Christmas and any other occasion -- figurines, mugs, paintings, rugs, coat racks, etc. Eventually, I had to build a room onto my house to hold the rooster collection, but it keeps spilling over into every other room and the garden anyway. It could be worse, I guess. Roosters are attractive creatures. I'm glad I didn't buy a wooden gorilla.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Right!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

A gorilla would certainly be incongruous with the look and feel of your gardens Zuzu ! Roosters, yes. Cats yes. Gorillas? Not so much.

She'll charm him with her roses.

Hi, KaperC's sis here. Like she said I do needlework. Meet with a few neighbors and we knit for friends and family and occasionally for different groups around town that help out people in need. I also crochet, tat and grow orchids. That plus looking after DH and mom keep me pretty busy when I can't garden. Now sis got me hooked on DG, so I spend way too much time here. LOL But I'm learning a lot.

Southern Dutchess Co, NY(Zone 5b)

Hi Sally! Sounds like we enjoy many of the same things, but my knitting needles have been idle since discovering DG. Do you have a greenhouse for your orchids?

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Yeah, it's her living room! LOL

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Sounds like nice colorful parrot would fit in well with a room full of orchids.

Southern Dutchess Co, NY(Zone 5b)

Yes, those wooden or resin replicas are so low maintenance, too.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

It would have to be a statue - her house is owned by cats!

It really is pretty. She has the orchids arranged on stands and there are huge windows so the light really shows them off. There seems to always be something blooming.

Eugene, OR

I try to keep it that way. Something always blooming. Sometimes they even cooperate. I thought about a greenhouse, but heating and cooling would be very expensive. Plus it would mean more orchids and a lot more work to care for them. I'm better off with them in the house, that way there's a limit.

Here's one of the bosses. Pookie. Both are rescues.

What pretty kitties, Sally! Mine have been gone for a long time now.

Although I do not have a greenhouse, I do have a radiant floor heated sunroom and that is where I keep the orchids. We lose power fairly regularly and I always worry about winter and the babies freezing. I have cut back on the heat out there for financial reasons and have not ordered anything new to replace those that just didn't make it, but have found some good things on a sale table at one of my favorite nurseries.

I keep the cacti and succulents in the house where they do not require the extra humidity as the tropicals do.

Here is a pic of one of my cats and her loyal followers:
