Best/ Worse/ ? did you learn today #81visit with friends...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm not pregnant, that would be the day, you'd see Christine go postal lol! I had my appendix out last July. There's some ladies at work who just had a virus that did this sort of thing, so we'll see. My mom just told me that she does this on a regular basis. I hope I don't get that gene!

I think my mom's dog had a seizure. She said her husband was outside with him and he came in the house and said, "Connie, your dog is having a problem." So she went outside and he was laying down shaking all over, his eyes were half closed and watering but not rolled back in his head, and his heart rate was sky high. I told her to take him to the vet Monday and she's fighting me about it saying, "But it might not ever happen again, if that's what happened. He's only 5 years old," and every other reason in the book to not take him. He's a very in-bread 5 year old Beagle.

Sorry to hear about your Moms beagle. I hope he is OK.
Good night everyone. get a good nights sleep.

Turns out about an hour before that my step-dad took him for a walk around the property and he ate some turkey poop, I wonder if he had a reaction to it. The darn dog is so inbred it's ridiculous and it wouldn't surprise me if he did start having problems like this.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello to all: Yes it seems the weather is crazy this year....Trish....If Most of you guys weren't inundated with snow right now...I'd attach a picture of "Snow in Baton Rouge" which happened one morning in December....My MIL who has lived here for prob 50 years...said she had never seen anything like it...it was definitely a record. We never get (what we called) Sneaux. (The Louisiana spelling) and I heard from many out-of-state folks...apparently it made the national news. School was cancelled ...electricity went out....the whole thing. Plus Hurricane Gustav which was the worst hurricane I've been in. (Worse in Baton Rouge than Katrina). Strange thing ...the tropicals made it through the snow fine. (Betty - Like the water they spray over the plants) the ice coated the plants and protected them somehow. The plants made it through a few more freezes...but we had a freeze a few days ago that turned 2 of the 3 hibiscus brown. My sister (in FWB, FL) said they might still come back. My first year so we will see.... Gilli - I love your party plans and ideas! Hope you got a lot of good pictures. That's the kind of party they always remember. Mine are all Teens now... I miss the "good old days" when you could do fun stuff like that. Please you all - take care of yourselves...don't work too hard when you should be home resting and recuperating. :) Love to all - Mary in Baton Rouge

Hi all!

Betty I am so glad you are starting to feel better ^_^ please continue to take care of yourself. It is a true joy to come to this thread and read your posts.

I think I over-did it a bit today :( started the patio, didnt get much of the patio area done tho. My friends had to go to a funeral today, so no work party after all. Just me and my step son pulling weeds and moving the mountain of cement. By the time I could start laying out the stones, my back was killing me :( so quit about 3pm and decided to rest.

DD then showed up with my sweet lil grandson and well... I just had to hold him and play with him for a few hours! LOL! He is getting braver each day (and cuter! lol!) now takes about three steps and then 'boom' down he goes! lolol! it is just so adorable to watch them learn to walk! lol!

Neighbor boy was celebrating his birthday (he turned 7) so we went to his party for a lil bit. I am now exhausted! LOL! will attempt to work on the patio area again tomorrow, but will have to see how my back feels in the morning. Hopefully the work party will show up tomorrow :) and then I wont be allowed to do much but pour lemonade! LOLOL!

Here is my before pix.....

Aw Ann Marie-what a doll!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG she's just so cute! Name of the Light of your life please???? Me thinking after seeing how much work was done that you had best stick to pouring the lemonage..that's heavy work AnnMarie and you are suppose to be taking it easy..now won't you son just love a patio..great way to recycle...can just see it with moss or the likes between the slabs...

Mary, it must have been wonderful for all to see 'sneaux' in Louisiana..just to watch it falling..now when you say your plants were covered in ice, that alone would have led me to believe it's the end of them and yet not...strong little things plants/shrubs are..when we're raking (before we should) just under sections of snow are the greenest of plants..perennials of course but still amazing ...

Stacey you crafting today?

Crissy, got a kick out of your 'pregnant' response..not up to having kids as yet I take it....woke up several times last night to the smell of 'stew' hope yours turns out as good as I'm hoping mine will be...

was going to call Greg and say if he and family are out snowmobiling, to drop in for ats...stew/soup/bread...know they are heading to the islands today...

Up at 7am which is late for me, not going to get out of my jammies that's for sure...sewing the quilt top..would say most likely by mid afternoon only thing remaining will be clipping it..made it larger than mine as per Darlene's request..

Diane just called, was going to bring the materials over for the Valentine Card class I missed due to being sick..hearing me hack she said she'd pass and do it another day..can't blame her...

Trisha, what special thing are you up to today, still working on 'swaps' lordy I'm glad all of mine are posted! My trip to post office yesterday..

finishing up some stuff and cleaning and pondering my options...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well Stacey, looks as though you are up and at it..that's part of the battle..a shock to your system (anyones system) such as you've had sometimes can make you just want to stay laying in bed not facing the world..you my dear are taking it in stride..thinking about options is a long step towards finding out what YOU want to do..

June came over, dropped off pkg of feathers..didn't tell her it was 1 day too late, went out and purchased a bag yesterday morning as I needed one for my project I was mailing...she was heading to Barrie, wanted to know if I wanted to go..NO not me..just enjoying playing around in the house..soon be time to have some stew..lol..

Well I'm gaining ground on the quilt..do know I'll not start the curtains..save it for another weekend..not next, as I promised if well enough to take her to Buffalo...I'm excited about that as I'll possibly get to meet Debbie if her home schedule permits....

Break almost over, just vacuumed the basement, watching t.v. - interesting show on all the 'godfathers' so now back to work..

I'm here...

Good Morning All!!

The name of the 'light of my life' is David. DD named him after the David's brand sunflower seeds she craved while pregnant....so I am planting him a sunflower bed this year. Thinking I may ask for seeds from DGers in trade and then put their names and the name of the flowers on tags for him. Will have to wait and see.... I think he will enjoy that, knowing later in life that grammas' DG friends sent the seeds for his bed :)

I will most definitely be taking it easy today. have two kids to volunteer moving the cement pieces for me. I'll just be overseeing the arrangement of pieces and leveling the area. hard to use these pieces as they are all different thickness. whoever pour the cement in the fron yard didnt level the dirt underneath. some are 6" thick and some just 2" thick! I will be planting plugs of either blue star creeper or lemon thyme in between the pieces. am thinking that lemon thyme may do better in that area and also give a nice aroma when walked on. I have plenty of both already growing in my garden beds, so will just transplant plugs.

hope you all have a nice easy Sunday.....off to go start in the yard, then a visit with my son tonight :) I am really looking forward to the visit :)

{{hugs to all}}

LOL Betty, I'm 36, doubt I'll ever be into having kids at this point. I've avoided it all my life and continue to do so. That's so bad, but I just don't want the responsibility.

AnjL I hope you have a good time tonight, and let the kids do the work. What a cute story about David!

I think I'm feeling better today, not that I felt bad, but I woke up with major abdominal pains at 4 this morning then been in the bathroom every 10 minutes until about an hour ago, of course when I got up at 8 I made some coffee, maybe it would help lol. I was worried that I had some scar tissue blocking intestine, but apparently not, thank God. I hope I got rid of whatever this crud is, we were invited to our next door neighbors to watch the Super Bowl and have Cheeseburgers, I really would like to do that.

Ladies, I guess you all know what happens when you take antibiotics! Well, it hit me, big time! I got Wayne to get me the cream and it set me on fire! Never before! I perfer the pills! I think I'm better today, though!
These flannel quilts, you don't have to line them? I might make one for Lisa's boss.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

oh Audrey, I feel for you! have you tried acidopholus pills? I had some major issues with that same issue recently :( doc gave me some pretty strong antibiotics via IV for both surgeries... and had 3 rounds of different antibiotics between surgeries because of the kidney infection. I was taking 8 acidopholus pills a day and that cleared it up and kept it from returning.

okay breaks over...gotta get this patio done! lol!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

As long as I stay away from antibiotics, I'm OK! Sometimes in summer I'll get it from the heat, but he gave me a tube of great ointment for that! I'm diabetic.
I have felt better today than in a long time! I actually vaccuumed the floor! Also cleaned in the bathroom! Been sweatting all day. I have the air on. It's nice outside. Don't know the temp, I can't seem to get the WeatherBug!

Audrey, you just sew 2 or 3 layers of fabric together, and then clip the edges. It can't get any easier than that. Click on the link, and read the instructions. SEW EASY!

Anne Marie, what an angelic little boy. That surely means trouble to be that sweet looking. He could get away with a lot of stuff. How could ya stay mad, looking at that little face.

Gosh guys, you sure are having the weather back east. Poor Shar w/no power for I don't know how long now, with no hope in sight.

I never think of stuff like that. We had one tornado a year and 1/2 ago and took out 28 power poles and no power for about 12 hours, in a heat wave. It was boring and hot. We finally went and sat in the soft tub just to cool down since we are on a well and had no power to it either, we could not even get in a cool bath.

Freezing sucks though, there is no refuge from it. How do businesses not fail?

Hi everyone. Gardened a bit today, pulled weeds that are creeping up all over. I need to start my winter sowing in bottles this week or next weekend. I need some seed mix though.

Anyone here doing a seed trade? I should check it out. I had so much fun last year.

I learned today that a great-niece, who lived with me when she was just a 5 year old kid, still loves me and remembers what my spousal unit and I did for her. Social services took her, her brother and sister away from their mom and dad and we had her for a little over one year. The brother stayed with his grandmother and the other girl stayed with my sister-in-law.
I had to take her to the doctor immediately. This child had head lice, scabies, bronchitis, malnutrition, dental caries and was underweight. Her hair was like straw. By the time I got home from the pharmacy, we had to set up all the medicaitons and vitamins on a bookshelf with a schedule taped to it. She had to be bathed every day using a special shampoo for her head lice and a special lotion for the scabies. Her bed linens and blanket had to be washed in hot water every day for a week. She also had to go to a dentist and have some baby teeth removed and a spacer put in her mouth to keep the others in place until the adult teeth came in.
She was smart and caught up in kindergarten (hadn't even been enrolled before) and got healthy.
Then she and her siblings went back to mom and dad after they were "rehabilitated" and had a house with separate beds for each child. They really seemed to do well and get things back to a normal state. But alas, they fell into their old habits, including living in their car, almost immediately and Social Services was looking for them. I am good at finding people (my husband calls me a ferret) and I located them within 3 days. They were taken away again but the grandmother kept all 3 of them this time. Finally the mom left the dad and moved to this area. But she brought her troubles and attitudes with her. So the kids had a rough life and of course, picked up bad habits.
Today Mary called me. She has 5 kids, 2 grown and away even though she is only about 33, 2 with her mother and 1 with her. She has moved back to the area and called me immediately. All I could do was encourage her and promised I'd see her soon. She said she loved me. The tie that bound us together all those years ago has never broken. I just don't know if will leave her old lifestyle behind. Most people who move and get new jobs because of bad times where they were living manage to bring their troubles with them and have the same problems again soon.
I can't dare to hope I can influence her at this age; I can just be there for her.

Morning all..no didn't watch the game last night, busy clipping away at the quilt so I could leave it for Darlene this morning..ouch , blisters on my little finger..going to purchase me some 'raq clippers' hey perhaps when I cross over USA border this weekend and hit Joanne's...lol

Welcome Woodspirit, OMG you wonder how little children can survive such abuse..you showed her kindness and I'm sure in the eyes of a child you were her 'earthly angel'..I do hope you get to visit with each other shortly..

Crissy, more power to you to know you don't want the responsibility..others who know they shouldn't have children but do and God bless those little ones...

AnnMarie, imagine that your patio is all but laid...going to send you some sunflowers...each and every year I plant mega seeds, not once did I have a sunflower .. this year perhaps a few purchased nursery plants to set here and there..I love them but guess my soil doesn't...when is the visit with your son?

Dawn, you are gardening, I envy you..you wondered how stores make a go of it in the winter..you must remember that we're all geared for it, clothing, snowtires, heating...our roads are nicely plowed when it isn't snowing day after day after day that they cannot keep us..many of us have snowblowers..so we adapt..doesn't seem to stop the shoppers...lol...on the upbeat side there is skating/outdoor rinks, skiing, snowmobiling, tubing etc. then for some of us older gals, well we just stay in and craft and look at the pretty scene...

Judy, guess you have big plans for the bahama party for your birthday right? bet you are getting excited ..from past years know you celebrate the ENTIRE month..so cute... how much of your project were you able to do with Steve at home?

LindaKay, yes you can't get a project much easier than a rag quilt..I only put the 2 layers because it's meant as a couch throw for those chilly nights and not a blanket..might travel into town and pick up more flannel as it's on sale and stock is getting low just to have on hand to make a couple for the grandsons for Christmas...still even at $3.00 a meter by the time you purchase thread it comes close to $50.00 guess that's still reasonable...

Best be off..if I've missed anyone I'll catch up with you at the office...I'll move us over as well..hard to access for those on dial-up...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Moved us over...

Looking forward to yet more of the Best/Worse and What did I learn today...a chat with friends.....
